Chapter 524 The Dragon Riders Will Launch an Attack
Ajax immediately set off in the direction Holin had come from, the fiery dragon Renoir casting a huge shadow on the ground.
The dragon is coming!
North of the Grey Mountains, the northern humans were once widely distributed, but with the encroachment of darkness and the southward migration of some elite northern humans to establish Gondor, the human population of the North has been declining year after year...
“The Northern Wasteland, this place once sheltered the dragon knights!” Ajax gazed at the desolate northern lands. The vast, uninhabited wasteland made Ajax frown. It seemed that very few human tribes remained north of the Grey Mountains.
"Roar!" A loud dragon roar resounded through the heavens and earth. Ajax never intended to hide her whereabouts. As a dragon rider, Ajax had her own pride. She disdained sneak attacks and preferred those rats hiding in the shadows to stand up and fight her fair and square!
"Renoir, do you see them? They're right there!" The campsite with its lit bonfire stood out starkly against the darkening sky.
“Of course, my knight!” Renoir’s deep voice boomed.
"Dragon's Breath!" Ajax patted Renoir on the back, and Renoir immediately understood and swooped down. With a clear and stirring dragon's roar, his fiery red figure magnified in everyone's eyes.
"Whoa! Is that a dragon?" A dwarf nervously looked at his companion beside him.
"Holy crap! Take cover!" As everyone watched the giant dragon in the sky open its blood-red maw, a deep red energy twisted and brewed. Everyone scrambled to run away, even the bravest imperial knights were feeling weak in the knees. However, the knights maintained their professionalism and activated their Glory to try to form a group to resist the dragon.
"Uh... calm down! Don't panic! This is one of our own! It's Her Highness Ajax!" The centurion looked at the panicked crowd, who were running around like wolves in fear because of their own dragon rider general.
"Dvalin! This is an ally! Our... Holy crap!" The centurion tried to run towards Dvalin, but halfway there he was knocked to the ground by someone, and countless big feet trampled on his body.
"Boom!" A blazing dragon's breath drew a circle around them, and flames powerful enough to ignite mountains and split rocks illuminated the terrified faces of the crowd.
The crowd encircled by the dragon's flames stirred in a commotion. Amid the chaos, Ajax, wearing long boots, flipped off the dragon's back.
"What happened? The camp has been rioted? Who is the commander of the Royal Knights? Bring him to me!" Ajax cleared her throat and asked.
"Your Majesty... I am here!" A deep voice came from beneath the crowd as they looked at each other in confusion.
“Uh…” Ajax and Reynolds exchanged a glance, their eyes twitching as they watched the centurion limp up from the ground.
“Your Majesty, I am…” Leaning on a spear he had picked up from who-knows-where, the centurion limped toward Ajax.
"...Are you alright?" Ajax pursed her lips.
"It's alright, Your Majesty!" The centurion straightened up, wiped the dirt off his face, and smiled.
"Hmm... tell me what's going on! I need to know the most detailed information!" Although Ajax was skeptical of his condition, she didn't ask any further questions.
“Okay! Here’s the thing…” The centurion organized his thoughts and then slowly began to explain to Ajax.
……
"Friend, won't this dragon flame go out?" Dvalin nudged Maple Leaf Purple's arm, intending to pat his shoulder, but his height limited him...
“Ancestor! Are you kidding me? This is the dragonfire of a pure-blooded fire dragon! It won't go out unless the dragon power attached to it burns out completely!” Maple Leaf Purple looked at Dvalin with an expression of utter disbelief. “Is that so?” Dvalin awkwardly rubbed his nose. The most orthodox dragon he had ever seen was Smaug, but Smaug's dragonfire was practically a completely different breed compared to Renoir's.
"This thing can burn you to a crisp if you touch it!" Maple Leaf Purple said solemnly to Devalin. The dragon flames surrounding them would allow them to sleep soundly tonight without fear of the undead. The terrifying dragon flames would be their best defense!
……
"Is that so?" Ajax murmured to herself as she reached out her soft hand to touch Reynolds's solid scales.
“Lead them to rest here for the night, and head south to return tomorrow! Don’t worry about safety, Dragonfire will protect you! But you need to be wary of attacks from the air!” Ajax whispered to the centurion, her lips slightly parted.
"Yes, General! But if I may be so bold, are you planning to head north to investigate?" the centurion asked somewhat flusteredly.
“Yes, I have to see for myself! Caslow isn’t here, so I have to go and investigate, after all, it concerns the survival of everyone in the North!” Ajax shook her head.
“But…” The centurion opened his mouth, wanting to stop Ajax from venturing into danger alone, since they didn’t know the details of these undead.
"Don't worry about my safety. I am a Dragon Knight, they can't stop me!" Ajax, who usually appears delicate, was unusually domineering at this moment, almost as if she had her disdain for those chickens and dogs written all over her face.
"Then please be careful!" The centurion could only bow his head and pat his chest in farewell. Seeing that Ajax was determined to set off that very night, he could only offer his blessings.
“I will, by the way! There might be griffin riders to meet you along the way, so watch out for them!” Ajax smiled, turned around, and slung her dragon over her shoulder.
"Your Majesty, be careful!" The centurion couldn't help but remind Ajax again as she rushed into the night.
"My goodness! Please don't let anything happen to you! Otherwise, His Majesty Caslo will tear me apart when he returns!" the centurion muttered to himself.
"Renault! Add fuel to the fire! Make it burn brighter!" Ajax patted the dragon's back.
Renoir immediately understood and exhaled another breath of dragonfire, circling their camp once more before turning and leaving with Ajax.
“My knight, I suggest we be careful!” Reno’s voice echoed in Ajax’s mind.
“Of course, I will be careful!” Ajax reassured her.
“I’m afraid this is the Scourge of the Dead! That would be troublesome! There might be Death Knights and Bone Dragons! We’d be in trouble then!” Renault’s voice was filled with worry.
"Then burn them all! Send them back to where they belong! Send those necromancers who desecrate corpses to hell!" Ajax gripped her dragon spear, her eyes flashing with a cold light. Those who desecrate corpses do not deserve to remain in Middle-earth!
“Is it possible that… the Empire also had quite a few necromancers back then, and I remember there were even necromancer sages?” Renoir’s voice was a little embarrassed. After all, dragons have inherited memories. Through the memories passed down from his ancestors, he glimpsed that the Lagrange Empire was once a master of undead scourge magic. After all, it was just a continuous forbidden spell.
