Chapter 467 The Visitor: Gandalf, the Sword Saint!
Chapter 467 The Visitor—Gandalf the Sword Saint!
"Who is it? Who has nothing better to do than come looking for me?" Roland twisted his neck in annoyance, somewhat speechless, but he quickly calmed down like a chicken with its neck being squeezed.
"Could it be... Dain?" Roland gave a smile that looked more like a grimace.
"..." Yun Feng glanced helplessly at Roland, who looked guilty, and shook his head.
……
"Holy crap! Gandalf the Sword Saint... no! Gandalf the Grey Wizard!" Roland exclaimed instinctively.
“King Roland…you don’t seem to welcome me?” A wicked smile appeared on Gandalf’s old face, which was as withered as tree bark.
“No, no, no! Of course you’re welcome! I’m just a little surprised that you would come to visit me.” Roland quickly shook his head.
"It seems you have some opinions about my profession?" Gandalf stroked his beard and looked at Roland with a smile. Although Roland changed his words very quickly, the perceptive Gandalf still noticed his thoughts.
“Uh…” Roland looked at Gandalf somewhat awkwardly. Although everyone on Earth knew that Gandalf was a pure-blooded melee mage and the swordsman of Middle-earth, Roland couldn’t very well tell Gandalf that.
“I have no intention of accusing you, King Roland, you need not worry.” Gandalf noticed Roland’s embarrassment and spoke up to help him out of his predicament; otherwise, Roland really would have dug a two-bedroom apartment out of his feet.
"Thank you for your understanding, Gandalf!" After they were both seated, Roland smiled and poured Gandalf a cup of black tea.
"Mmm! Rich black tea!" Gandalf exclaimed after taking a sip.
"You wouldn't come here without a reason. What trouble have you encountered this time?" Roland cut straight to the point without any pleasantries.
"What? Can't I come to see an old friend?" Gandalf smiled as he looked at Roland.
"Hehe, of course you can, but visiting old friends at this time of day isn't a good choice!" Roland chuckled and then pointed to the window.
"You are such a meticulous person! You are far better than many nobles who only know how to solve problems with their fists!" Gandalf looked at Roland with admiration, after all, Roland's ability to observe this detail was far superior to that of many rough and brutish kings!
"Hehe..." Roland chuckled to himself, thinking to himself that he wasn't stupid. What did he have that Gandalf would be interested in? Why would he come all the way here in the dead of winter? Did Gandalf have an old flame in Runaway? Obviously not! The only other possibility was that Gandalf was in trouble.
Roland shook his head slightly. Gandalf actually compared him to those brutes? His idols were Li Er and Zhu Laosi! Those two had mastered the title of "Emperor on Horseback," and Roland was now striving towards that goal. Roland scoffed at Gandalf's idea of solving problems with fists. After all, why use fists when forbidden spells could cover it up? A sword could shut someone up; using your hands would hurt so much!
“I want to go to Dolgodo…” Gandalf began to explain, but before he could finish, Roland jumped up.
"Yunfeng! See him out! Please see Lord Gandalf off properly for me! I apologize, Gandalf, I have other matters to attend to and must excuse myself!" Upon hearing this, Roland jumped up, ready to run away.
The result… well, Roland tried to pull his hand away forcefully, only to discover that this seemingly friendly old man possessed incredible strength; his hand gripped Roland's wrist like a vise, rendering him completely immobile. Roland's lips twitched slightly. He really wanted to tell Gandalf that he had strongly opposed Gandalf's decision to withdraw from the ranks of the Conquerors (Sixth-Tier Warrior).
"Let me finish speaking, King Roland!" Gandalf said solemnly, taking Roland's hand.
"Okay, go ahead, I'm listening." Roland sat back down helplessly.
“Darkness is creeping into Middle-earth, and we cannot stand idly by! I think…” Gandalf paused to gather his thoughts.
"Yes, we can't just stand by and do nothing, and then everyone just tries to stop us and gets themselves killed, right?" Roland said with a hint of sarcasm.
“Oh! Oh, right, I forgot to tell you, Gandalf, this year we organized a coalition to launch an expedition against Dolgodo… and the result was obvious!” Roland shrugged.
"Oh? What were the specific results?" Gandalf quickly leaned closer, eager to hear the details.
“Thrandruid, King of the Woodlands Elvenking; Whitewing, King of Akvia; Thorin, King of the Mountain; Eorvia, King of Singrey; Bombard, King of the Valley; and I, Roland, King of Lagrange! The combined army of the six kingdoms was defeated at Dolgoth, and the Ringwraiths drove us out. Fortunately, we were not crippled; unfortunately, we can never organize an expedition of this scale again.” Roland gave Gandalf a somber look.
"..." Gandalf looked at Roland with a questioning gaze, wanting to hear Roland's explanation.
“Eovia has closed the country off with the Singrey elves, and Thranduil… sigh! You know what he’s like, don’t you? Right now, the humans and dwarves are still desperately resisting the infiltration of the darkness in the North, and I… am already powerless to do anything more,” Roland said wearily.
"The Battle of Dolgodor completely shattered the very bones and blood of the Singari elves. They suffered heavy casualties, and even Éovia was severely damaged. Thranduil has kept the kingdom closed to protect his people. The dwarves also recently launched a major attack in Moria. As for the remaining humans in the North..." Roland looked up at Gandalf, who was filled with solemnity and contemplation.
"I've already dealt with the orcs from the south, the west, the north, and the chariot races from the east quite a bit. They're all familiar faces!" Roland shook his head helplessly. How could they not be familiar? They've been through so many troubles!
"And I advise you not to think about infiltrating Dolgodor again. It's not Azog, that brain-dead orc, who controls it now. The Ringwraiths have an incredibly strong grip on it. Darkness lurks deep within the fortress, and no one can dispel it!" Roland's deep voice struck Gandalf's heart.
"Puff!" Gandalf subconsciously pulled out his pipe and started puffing. Through the smoke, you could see the worry etched on Gandalf's weathered face.
“Perhaps I can gather the wizards…” Gandalf still wanted to struggle a bit more.
“There are at least four Ringwraiths there! We had just as many sixth-rank Ringwraiths back then!” Roland added a final blow, striking Gandalf so hard that he was momentarily stunned and didn’t even notice his pipe falling to the ground.
“Who can guarantee there won’t be other Ringwraith reinforcements? Besides, the rotten figures of the Ringwraiths have also appeared in Gombad Fortress.” Roland sighed.
"..." Gandalf was completely at a loss. Although he didn't want to admit a single word Roland said, he couldn't deceive himself and could only silently accept the current state of the North as a mess.
“Perhaps we should do something?” Gandalf thoughtfully picked up the fallen pipe.
