Therefore, based on the current battle situation, the entire fleet was re-adjusting its plans. The blockade fleet remained vigilant against a possible counterattack by the remaining Orc fleet, while the other warships were organized according to different missions. The original bombardment fleet prepared to move closer to unleash the power of long-range cannons. Meanwhile, some warships with thick armor and strong mid-range and short-range firepower began final preparations before the sprint.
"Ready to begin!" After adjusting their formation, the Endless Journey issued the attack order. Behind him stood a dozen large warships, forming the first shock wave. Behind them came more assault squadrons, seven in total, forming a massive arrow-shaped attack formation. And at the rear stood the Iron Hands' Executioner Tornado squadron. This time, Balder planned to mobilize every available warship.
"Reserve 60% of your energy reserves for shields."
"The battleship is preparing to open the afterburner tanks."
"Carrier-based aircraft squadrons are ready, ready for catapult launch." Accompanied by the message that each squadron was ready, the Imperial fleet launched its charge. Due to overcharge, the originally pale blue void shields turned dark blue, and all the front-line warships strove to strengthen their defenses. According to the plan, they would quickly penetrate the enemy's fire blockade, and then, once within effective range of the broadside guns, concentrate their firepower on the attack.
Thousands of void bombers were ready in the assault squadron behind them. They were responsible for suppressing the defensive firepower of the star fortress. That's right, suppressing the defensive firepower. Normally, the plasma torpedoes these bombers used were enough to inflict fatal damage on cruisers and larger warships, but now, they were only suited to suppressing the star fortress's hedgehog-like artillery array.
"Damn it, there's something wrong with these Orks!" As they got closer, the image of the distant Gogo's Fist star fortress became clearer. With the help of optical detectors, everyone could finally clearly see the fortress in its entirety. Unlike the usual piles of artillery and equipment piled up like garbage, the exterior of Gogo's Fist gave off a sense of neatness and refinement. Although the projection still showed traces of many broken ship hulls, it was a significant improvement compared to other Ork star fortresses.
Like other Ork constructions, this star fortress was densely packed with artillery arrays, lances, and launch bays. However, in certain key locations, Sejanus and his companions spotted long-barreled cannons. Based on scale, these heavy guns had barrels around three kilometers long, longer than a light cruiser. And the dense clusters of squeaking cannons (lances) pointed like spikes at the charging Imperial fleet.
"They seem to be waiting for something." Du Kain said with some concern.
"They are also waiting for us to enter the optimal range. Order all aircraft carriers to release all bombers immediately, and then release fighters with all their strength!" Bader seemed to suddenly realize something and gave orders anxiously.
"Okay, we'll execute it immediately." Dukain didn't waste any words. From Bader's serious expression, he realized the seriousness of the problem. So, from the three assault teams located relatively far back, thousands of fighter planes were ejected in a short period of time. However, they were only the first wave! Dense swarms of carrier-based aircraft flew through the fleet. The number of Imperial aircraft was so large that it looked like smoke in the projection.
"The Ork fleet is firing!" Suddenly, someone shouted. In the distance, the Fist of Gork finally erupted! Like a volcanic eruption, the star fortress unleashed a deadly firepower like a stream of lava. In an instant, countless shells and lasers rained down upon the Imperial fleet. Explosions echoed throughout the fleet. The enemy's effective range was still far greater than that of the Imperial warships. Under these circumstances, the Imperial fleet could only cling to its shields to make it through the final stretch.
In addition to the ferocious firepower, thousands of Ork void fighters and assault boats rushed forward like a swarm of enraged bees. The sheer number of them astounded even veterans of the Legion, including Sejanus. Honestly, neither Dukain nor Sejanus had ever encountered Orks this intelligent.
The sudden and fierce firepower made the Imperial battleships in the front feel tremendous pressure. The battleships that were capable of handling most situations were like fishing boats in a storm under such fierce firepower. The void shields had become less reliable and they could only rely on the heavy armor to desperately resist the bombardment. The artillery shells like raindrops first covered the Mechanicus's Ark Golden Gear and the Space Wolves battleship Mokai's Fang next to it.
Under the relentless onslaught, the Mokai's shields shattered after a few flashes. Like a swarm of shells and torpedoes, the massive warship, spanning 11 kilometers in length, was blasted with a fiery explosion that shattered nearly a third of its upper deck. Countless pieces of steel and debris were hurled into space by the impact at such great distances. In a short period of time, the warship lost over 1.5 personnel. The nearby Golden Cog fared better, its shields holding up longer. Just as its shield collapsed, a backup shield generator sprang up almost instantly.
"Endless Journey, provide cover for our allies." Such intense firepower moved even Balder. After a brief hesitation, the Endless Journey broke away from the formation and positioned itself in front of the Fang of Mokai, giving it a chance to retreat. Its thick shield remained resilient, transforming countless blows into fireworks in the void.
However, this assistance was limited, as there was only one Endless Journey. Many warships, especially the smaller ones, were shattered by the intense firepower before they could even reach the Endless Journey's protection. Throughout the journey, the Imperial fleet sailed through a virtual firestorm, with the Ork star fortress's ferocious firepower destroying a dozen Imperial cruisers and large cruisers. Finally, however, the Imperial fleet entered its optimal firing position. With the order to change formation issued, the warships of seven divisions formed seven battle lines in space, with thousands of guns trained on the distant star fortress from their flanks!
In an instant, accompanied by a series of flames that engulfed the entire fleet, the Imperial counterattack began. Meanwhile, the battle between the two carrier-based aircraft in the void was nearing its end. While the Ork attack had indeed caused little damage to the Empire, the Imperial fleet's first wave of aircraft had also failed to cause any trouble to the distant star fortress. Thus, before the second wave of aircraft was released, the Imperial fleet and the distant star fortress engaged in a straightforward exchange of fire.
The star fortress is powerful, but also bulky and immobile. Only a few sectors of the star fortress can launch attacks on the Imperial fleet. Under the continuous attacks of the Imperial fleet, the void shields in many areas were severely weakened. The second round of carrier-based aircraft forces released subsequently to cover the Executioner Squadron finally dealt the first heavy blow to this orc war fortress!
It must be said that the Iron Hands' technology was truly impressive. The cloaking field generators on these special torpedo ships effectively reduced the enemy's detection range. By the time the Ork star fortresses, busy engaging the Imperial fleet, discovered these hidden assassins, it was already too late. The Executioners launched their final assault.
One after another, torpedo ships carrying special torpedoes sailed through the firestorm. Some of them failed to fire these powerful weapons and were evaporated by the torpedoes that exploded, but more warships successfully entered the effective range. Hundreds of special torpedoes roared towards the distant star fortress. A few minutes later, even on the Endless Journey, Bader and others saw the huge flames caused by the explosion on the distant star fortress!
In a series of violent explosions, tens of millions of tons of debris were thrown into the air, shattering the station's sturdy outer shell in pieces. In some places, holes as large as 1.5 kilometers in diameter appeared, enough for a light cruiser to enter. On the star fortress, large areas of defensive firepower and shield generators were destroyed.
"Alright, it's our turn!" Balder said, looking at the temporarily suppressed star fortress. The attack wasn't bad, but expecting a single strike to permanently resolve the problem was clearly not feasible. After all, time was running out. At that moment, the destroyer squadron responsible for reconnaissance on the outskirts of the system had detected a jump signal, indicating a large Ork fleet was warping towards the system. If they couldn't quickly capture this area, they would face the real risk of being caught in a pincer attack.
Unless Balder was ready to turn the table, the Imperial Fleet had to consider withdrawing and then calling for help. Obviously, Balder would not turn the table over such a small matter.
"Sejanus, you stay here first. After the portal opens, command and coordinate the large force to go over. The first wave of assault personnel are ready to follow me." Balder ordered.
Following the issuance of a series of orders, the first wave of teleporters arrived at the platform. This advance force, consisting of Iron Hands Terminators, the Wolf Regiment's Centurion Terminators and Iron Wolves, and Garro's own Dusk Raider Terminators, would launch the first wave of teleportation strikes. Oh, and there was also Swordmaster Akulduna, who had even temporarily changed into Terminator power armor for this teleportation.
"The location has been chosen, we are ready to act." After feeling it for a moment, Bader ordered, and then accompanied by a flash of light, the first round of more than 300 Terminators and mechas were teleported to the Fist of Gogo tens of thousands of kilometers away.
"Prepare for battle!" When the flash of teleportation ended, the first thing that appeared in front of Garo was a group of orc technical guys who were repairing unknown equipment in the distance. Following his order, groups of Dusk Raiders aimed their grenade launchers and automatic cannons at the orcs who still looked listless in the distance. In just a few seconds, the flying debris turned the groups of guys and fart spirits on the opposite side into bloody flesh.
"Attack this location immediately and destroy the energy supply here. Control the passage leading to the depths of the star fortress. I will let Sturgard cooperate with you." At this moment, a voice sounded in Garo's mind.
Chapter 135 Boarding Battle 1
"Psychic communication?" Garo touched the communication device in his helmet, and a rustling interference sound came from it. "Sometimes it's quite useful."
"Let's go!" Garro waved his hand, and the Dusk Raiders silently followed their commander as they strode forward. The troops deployed according to their respective missions, with Garro leading the most defensive Shield Terminators. Flanked by his colleagues carrying ranged weapons, the entire force formed a solid triangle. They quickly crossed the battle line and charged the Ork troops, their explosives and plasma raining down like a torrential rain, easily mowing down the oncoming hordes.
"Pay attention, in 12 minutes, heavy units will appear in the channel on your left, and there will be quite a lot of them. I hope the heavy weapons you carry can deal with them. I wish you good luck." After crossing a wide area, Garo heard Balder's voice again. After thinking for a moment, he waved his hand and everyone stopped.
"Set up a defense here. Heavy weapons, keep an eye on that!" Garro pointed to a distant passageway. It might be called a passageway, but it was hundreds of meters wide! The height was high enough for even a Reaver Titan to maneuver easily. Fighting within such a large space station was a first for Garro. The Dusk Raiders sprang into action. Teams armed with laser and gravity weapons quickly established fire support points based on the terrain. Teams with assault guns moved in on either side, preparing to engage the Ork marching formation with flanking fire. The conventionally equipped warriors, meanwhile, took advantage of the brief moment before the engagement to organize their melta bombs. They had already formed a tacit understanding, so a single glance was all they needed to know what to do.
"Big guys, lots of big guys!" Listening to the distant roar of machinery and feeling the slight vibrations of the ground, Garro's face changed. He estimated the time it would take for them to meet and ordered his comrades deploying mines ahead to move faster. Just as the last soldier returned to the makeshift defense line, the massive orc fighting machines finally appeared!
"It's the Tin Can Robots and a large number of tanks!" the scout in the front warned, noting the enemy's position on the datapad. As the Orc armored forces entered the battlefield, they were greeted by lasers and missiles fired by veteran Dusk Raiders. Dozens of missiles roared towards the distant target. Amidst bursts of violent explosions and flames, the first group of Tin Can Robots that rushed forward were shattered to pieces!
"Automatic cannons, attack the orc infantry on both sides."
"All members, free fire, please conserve ammunition."
"Scimitar Squad, watch your flanks, the orcs are coming." Although the orc troops were large in number, with the defense line and preparation, Garro and his Dusk Raiders easily harvested the enemies in front of them. Even though the other side had more than 10 times the number of troops, the th Legion's tenacious defense line remained unmoved. Everything went so smoothly, as if there was no difference from the previous battle.
"Something's coming?" Garro, commanding the troops, suddenly sensed a faint sense of danger, but he couldn't tell where it came from. He drew his sword, and the decomposition of his stance emitted a crisp explosion in the air. Then, the sense of danger grew stronger and stronger, until suddenly, a ball of yellow lightning appeared out of thin air and struck the Dusk Raiders' front line!
The huge amount of energy instantly overwhelmed the two Terminator companions, and when the light faded, four and a half heavily armored bosses appeared in front of Garo. Yes, four and a half, and the unlucky half of them only had half of his body left, obviously died from this unreliable transmission.
"Waaaagh, you're here to die!" The nearly four-meter-tall, heavily armored leader in the lead raised his oversized da-da rifle. This weapon, twice the caliber of a bolter, wasn't as accurate, but it was still powerful enough. Then, bullets the size of a Space Marine's fist swept down like hail, catching two heavily armed companions nearby off guard and leaving them half-dead. Meanwhile, the Dusk Raiders still had at least five teleportation points.
"Cover me! I'll take them down!" The Space Marines' ordinary bolters proved ineffective, while the plasma and autocannon shells were mostly deflected by the Super-Heavy's shield. These creatures, larger than even the Terminators, roared and charged into the battlements. Garro, of course, couldn't let them wreak havoc on his own lines. He and his guards charged forward.
With a bang, accompanied by the collision of the orc boss's power claws and the Terminator's giant shield, a dazzling flame erupted between the energy positions of both sides. This time, the Terminator's power was obviously at a disadvantage. The warrior was knocked to half kneel on the ground under the heavy blow. He pressed his shield to the ground, trying to block the opponent's attack, while the battle axe in his right hand chopped horizontally at the opponent's lower body.
With one blow, he broke the opponent's leg. He then dropped his shield and nimbly rolled to the side, avoiding the impact of the heavy metal. However, before he could rise, another heavily armored orc boss beside him had already raised his da-da rifle at him. A torrential rain of bullets instantly engulfed the legionnaire, who had lost the protection of his shield.
In this close-quarters engagement, the Dusk Raider Terminators felt immense pressure, their opponents far superior. Fortunately, Garro's presence stabilized the entire battle line. With his agility and exquisite swordsmanship, he decapitated a massive head in the first round of their encounter. In the ensuing battle, with the support of his companions, he eliminated four of the opposing super-armored bosses at the cost of one Terminator.
But the situation in other directions wasn't so good. With the help of the incoming Super-Heavy Boss, the recently defeated Ork forces rallied. And with the addition of the Warp Cannon Technicians, the entire front became precarious. This was a very special weapon, the strange energy it emitted could move a soldier's body dozens of meters away, or suck the target into the turbulent flow of the Warp. Of course, it could also instantly annihilate the launcher and their surrounding companions.
"Retreat, secure the key support points," Garro commanded, brandishing his greatsword as he fiercely cleared out the orcs who had entered the battle line, hacking away at any enemy who came his way. He moved among the dead and wounded like an emotionless killing machine. He swept through the battlefield like a whirlwind, leaving behind the wails of orcs and the admiration of his companions. However, the enemy was too numerous, and their fierce firepower gradually overwhelmed the Dusk Raiders.
At that moment, the sounds of walking mechas were heard from the other side of the passage. A moment later, three Iron Wolf battle mechas appeared in Garo's field of vision. Then, three plasma cannons and three missile launchers on their backs were trained on the Orc army pouring in like a tide. A barrage of missiles and powerful plasma cannons roared continuously, the scorching plasma warheads reducing the Orcs and their war machines to flaming wreckage. Even tanks mounted on the ground would be destroyed on the spot under the continuous attack. The entire Orc offensive was halted.
"Brothers, it seems you need more and heavier stuff!" Sturgard drove his own Iron Wolf mecha and rushed forward. The energy shield projected by the shield drone perfectly defended against the stray bullets from the opposite side.
"Fire at full speed, don't save ammunition, destroy them before they attack you, and you will be safe!" With the roar of the Wolf Lord, more Iron Wolf combat mechas and the Terminators accompanying them appeared on the battlefield, and under the cover of heavy firepower, the Dusk Raiders' front line was saved.
"Thank you for your help, my brother." Garo saluted with his sword.
"You're welcome. We need to move quickly! Destroy the energy station and control channel. The Supreme Lord Commander is about to open the gate." Sturgard manipulated the mech, waving the massive plasma cannon on his left hand and pointing it. "Let's go." Elsewhere, Balder and Akulduna also broke through. However, their movement was much easier.
----------
"This isn't a suitable place to teleport," Akurduna said, looking at the vast, interconnected field before them. They were probably teleporting to an Orc landing pad. Even if the Endless Journey's landing pad had been spacious enough before they left, measuring square kilometers, it still couldn't compare to this field. This field stretched over 2000 meters, and in the distance, Ork fighter jets were still waiting to launch.
"It's too spacious here. The enemy's tanks, mechas, and even Squigs can crush us head-on." Akurduna's face changed slightly. His experience told him that it wouldn't be long before the first wave of orc counterattack troops would arrive.
"Yes, they will be back soon." Balder nodded.
"Then what are we waiting for? We should immediately establish our position and block the distant passage with obstacles and firepower. Also, you need to open the door," the Sword Master from the Emperor's Son said anxiously. He then looked at the wild wolves behind him.
"This battle will be fierce, but I can guarantee that it will go very smoothly, at least in the initial stage. I will clear out the first wave of orc attacks, and then create a relatively stable environment for the arrival of subsequent troops." Balder said with a smile.
"Use psychic power? Use psychic power to resist thousands of orcs and their armored forces?" Akurduna showed an incredible expression on his face.
"They're coming. I need to prepare." Balder smiled, then strode towards the empty battlefield. In the distance, a tremendous roar could be heard, a torrent of steel rolling in. A moment later, the towering figures of the Skug beasts, various vehicles spewing black smoke, and mechas equipped with power claws and flamethrowers appeared. Thousands of Orks roared, their voices overwhelming everything else. A chilling Ork army was entering the battlefield.
Bolts of lightning began to emerge from the void into the real universe, circling Balder. An invisible psychic storm rapidly brewed around him. Everyone, including Akurduna, sensed the encroachment of an exceptionally powerful presence. Even though this being held no ill will towards them, everyone chose silence and avoidance. It was like a sauropod dinosaur walking past a rabbit. Even though this creature, weighing hundreds of tons, didn't eat meat, it was still a source of immense pressure.
A hole connecting to the warp suddenly appeared in the air. The rune priests could clearly see the indescribable huge psychic energy rushing out from the warp. If this energy was left unchecked, the entire landing site would be shrouded in a terrifying psychic storm. But at this time, another invisible force was guiding and directing the disordered energy, and the arrogant and unruly energy from the warp was reshaped and utilized.
"Almost enough!" Balder sensed the energy's intensity and pointed his Wind Rider at the Orc army, which stretched hundreds of meters in front of him. With a flick of his spear, a black spatial rift appeared among the Orcs. Then, the rift rapidly expanded, like a giant mouth, swallowing thousands of Orcs and hundreds of war machines in one gulp! A violent Warp storm swept down, sucking in countless Orcs like a dragon sucking water.
Over a dozen seconds, a spatial rift appeared, expanded, and then vanished, only to repeat the process in another location. The once vast Orc army was easily annihilated, bite by bite, as if by a gigantic, invisible beast. The psychic boys seemed to try to resist this overwhelming force, but it was futile. Their brains exploded one by one, leaving them more vulnerable than their peers. Countless souls were torn and wailed, and thousands of tons of steel were swept into the endless space. After a few minutes, only a few fragments of the once vast Orc army remained.
"Okay, wild wolves, clean up the remaining enemies, I'm ready to open the door." After dealing with the orc army in the distance, he felt some of the restless space around him. After the previous aftermath subsided, Balder began to open the door, just as easily as he had just wiped out an orc army with a wave of his hand. With the waving of the Wind Rider in his hand, a space-time gate that was more than 200 meters wide and 20 meters high appeared in front of everyone.
"Okay, come in quickly, it's up to you next." Looking at Sejanus and the officers and soldiers of the Moon Wolves who were a little dazed in front of him, Balder smiled and said.
"This... truly terrifying power." Akurduna was still lost in the horrifying scene. He had witnessed the devastating power of space weapons like vortex weapons before, but he had never imagined that a single person could accomplish something similar with a single movement. "This truly is a humanoid Titan," Akurduna thought to himself. His desire to challenge Balder to a duel faded considerably.
Chapter 136 Boarding Battle 2
"It's as easy as stepping through a door." Sejanus led the first group through the portal. "What a miraculous psychic power! This portal easily handles distances measured in tens of thousands of kilometers," Sejanus marveled. But it was clear he knew what needed to be done. He quickly approached Balder and, along with Akurduna, reviewed the situation, including Balder's Titan-like power and the actions of Garro and Sturgard.
"We can't do this too often. Casting large-scale psychic spells, especially spatial ones, multiple times in a confined space can lead to unpredictable results. Therefore, we'll need to use guns and swords to resolve the remaining problems," Balder explained. (During the Battle of Prospero, the Thousand Sons' rapid use of psychic energy led to numerous problems. Those interested can take a look.)
"Very good. If psychic power can solve all problems, then I really have to doubt the value of my existence." Sejanus said half seriously and half jokingly.
"We will then split into two attack groups. I will go directly to the energy core of this star fortress, control it and then cut it off. And Sejanus, you will lead another main force to clear out the command center of the star fortress. The subsequent task of throwing stones at the planet must also be carried out at the same time, and Flix will be responsible for this." Balder assigned the tasks.
"I'm going to carry out the decapitation mission?" Sejanus said with some surprise. Originally, he thought that Balder would carry out this decapitation mission. After all, collecting the enemy chief's head among his trophies is the dream of all commanders.
"Sir, don't you want to add a new trophy to your collection?" Sejanus reminded gently.
"The Luna Wolves are masters of decapitation tactics, and you are more suited to this task. Warfare should prioritize efficiency," Balder said with a wave of his hand. Balder cared little about glory. After all, he was officially second-in-command of the Space Wolves, a position of considerable importance. His own strength and influence were sufficient to support his reputation.
From a dark perspective, being able to chat with the Emperor is already impressive enough, so it's not a big deal to give some credit to the friendly forces that he likes. Of course, the most important thing is that Balder is very interested in the energy core of this star fortress. You know, some of the orcs' technology is still very powerful and worth learning from.
(Although Orc technology is somewhat mysterious, it is not unbreakable. For example, in the Beast Wars, the Mechanicus was able to instantly move a Martian satellite from one end of its orbit to the other by analyzing some Orc technology.)
"Legion attack!" Following Sejanus's command, the Brutal Blade tanks and Knight Titans marched proudly ahead, followed by the Siskarian tanks and various troop carriers. Surrounding them were numerous hoverbikes and swift units forming the flanks. The Luna Wolves were truly a formidable force, possessing both immense power and agility. The coordination between the entire force was expert and efficient, and they rapidly dispatched their opponents with their unique mixed-force tactics.
The fierce firepower of the Brutal Blades and Knight Titans hit the front of the Orc Legion like a sledgehammer. The constantly roaring heavy artillery and light spears turned the Orcs' huge war machines into balls of twisted metal. Whether it was the Squig behemoth or the assembled tanks, they were reduced to ashes by the precise and deadly firepower again and again.
While heavy firepower units were indiscriminately raining down bullets, the offensive spearheads composed of various medium-sized armored units quickly moved across the battlefield. They were like a sharp and dexterous scalpel, easily cutting the battlefield and turning the enemy into isolated small groups. Afterwards, a large number of legion soldiers and fearless men stepped onto the battlefield, and under the cover and cooperation of the armored units, they eliminated the orc troops one by one.
While commanding the frontal legion to break through, Sejanus did not forget to keep an eye on the enemy's movements. A large number of reconnaissance teams composed of anti-gravity motorcycles and jumping pack infantry shuttled back and forth inside the complex space station. While sending back pieces of intelligence, they also did not forget to use their high mobility to beat the small-scale orc troops into pieces.
Akurdunar also led a force composed of Space Wolves and fast Sons of Horus units. However, he did not follow Balder or Sejanus, but instead acted alone with a small force. He fully utilized the flexibility and high mobility of the Space Marines, choosing to pass through some relatively narrow passages, constantly attacking the flanks of the Ork legions and cutting off their retreat when appropriate.
His troops were as precise and swift as his swordsmanship. He could always find the most vulnerable moment of the orc army, for instance, during the short period of more than ten minutes when the army switched from marching to fighting, when the army stopped advancing but had not yet deployed, the troops of the Emperor's Sword Saint landed on the deadly neck of their prey as accurately as an eagle descending from the sky. After a burst of plasma and molten attacks, Akurduna led the assault team into the terrified enemy group, and used the power sword in his hand to harvest the enemy's head in an instant. What followed was a pursuit, with a small and fast force chasing the orc army that had lost its commander and attacking it fiercely.
As one of Bader's direct company commanders, Mitchell Furnace also participated in this operation. He led a team of Iron Wolves and Centurion Terminators as a fire brigade, ready to assist the front lines at any time.
"The Luna Wolves' coordination and formation are truly excellent," Mitchell Hearthfire exclaimed in sincere admiration, looking at the squadron before him, consisting of two Brutal Blades, several Siskarian tanks, personnel carriers, and repulsor-gravity bikes. This force wasn't large, with fewer than 2 Legionnaires, but it was a versatile, penetrating, and efficient force.
Open spaces weren't readily available within the station, and as they advanced deeper, the Luna Wolves were forced to split into smaller units, navigating the maze-like passages. Following the original Space Wolves' tactics, these smaller units would often perform single missions. For example, a unit composed of Iron Wolves and Hoverbikes would specialize in rapid assaults, while heavy tanks and numerous Dreadnoughts would become the Hammer Force. These diverse units would then be combined at a larger scale.
But the Sons of Horus were different. They could achieve deep integration at the level of a normal Legion company of around 500 men, equipping a single unit with a wide variety of weaponry, a panacea capable of carrying out a wide range of missions. The Space Wolves, on the other hand, had typically assembled units around men, making them less flexible. To address situations where this "jack of all trades" couldn't cope, Sejanus would retain a number of highly specialized units to respond to emergencies.
Sejanus's troops advanced rapidly, and Mitchell, while assisting them and learning the tactics and strengths of his allies, the entire process was smooth. Elsewhere, Balder's attack was also proceeding smoothly. He and the Great Sage Kasdin from Acheron 8 were already on the road to the reactor core.
------------
"Forward! Destroy all enemies of humanity!" As the binary code spread rapidly in the information network, groups of Fort Star combat mechas and Wolf Group Iron Wolf mechas surrounded a small team of War Dog Titans and advanced rapidly!
You read that right, the Warhound Titans. The Voidwalkers Chapter from the Forge World of Lucius also joined the battle. Although the original plan had it be Acheron VIII that would coordinate with the Space Wolves, the sages of the Forge World of Lucius were overly enthusiastic. They expressed their willingness to commit their precious Titan legions to the battlefield, and even offered to forgo any spoils of war, as long as they were given the opportunity to experiment!
That's right, an opportunity for experimentation! The Lucius Forge World possessed a unique technology: Titan teleportation! They had already developed it and were willing to test it in this battle. So, with Balder providing a psychic beacon, three Warhound Titans were successfully teleported deep into the Fist of Gogo Star Fortress. The ensuing battle could be described as a complete slaying of all who stood in their way.
"The sensor array has detected the target, behind three walls, 3 meters away, a No. 2500 Iron Man, confirmed to be a Knight Mech level, requesting a kill." On the War Dog Titan Plunderer, the captain received information from his subordinates. The fast-moving Titan immediately changed to half-speed, and the left leg was recurved to quickly slow down. Under the huge inertia, the War Dog Titan weighing more than 5 tons quickly turned a semicircle with one foot as the center, and the twin-mounted volcano cannon in the left hand was aimed at the target in the distance that was obscured by layers of obstacles.
"The reconnaissance team confirmed the structure was safe for firing."
A moment later, two violent laser beams shot out from the Warhound Titan's twin main guns, easily penetrating several layers of walls and blowing the Orc Iron Man into pieces without him noticing.
"Secondary engine kill. Report completed." The captain of the Struggler said happily.
After clearing out the core target, the Space Wolves' armored forces, under the cover of infantry, rushed towards the distant target, slaughtering the distant enemies with the sound of gunfire and explosions. On the other side, Balder was dealing with other things.
"These orcs are very unusual. It's hard for me to understand how they can create such sophisticated weapons." The great sage Castin, like an oversized mechanical lobster, carefully followed behind Balder. Although most of his body had been replaced by machinery, all kinds of human emotions had gradually left him.
But after seeing how Balder had just used a single syllable to put hundreds of orcs to sleep forever, the great sage still felt a long-lost pressure. He worked diligently on his job, fearing even the slightest mistake. This was a kind of worship of the strong, but also due to the serious internal conflict within the Mechanicus.
Obviously, the Mechanicus following the Space Wolves Legion is now divided into three factions, Abyss VIII, Lucius and Mars Headquarters. They all need Balder's help in the pursuit of knowledge, so he must do better than his colleagues!
"Yes, the Orcs in the Flame Wheel sector are somewhat special," Balder nodded. "According to my intelligence, within the Orcs' final stronghold in the Flame Wheel sector, there are numerous Titan-class combat units. This planet is protected by a thick void shield, and a large-scale ground engagement is unavoidable. So, Master Castin, the Great Sage from Acheron VIII, are you willing to take on this important task and receive the corresponding rewards?" Balder asked.
By the time Baldur arrived at the Fist of Gogo, the battle for Belos V was already a foregone conclusion. Divination informed Baldur that the fortress contained no threat. Following the fall of the fortress, the Orks there were completely defeated and no longer a concern. The real pressure on Baldur lay in the ensuing battle. On Charon, the last Ork stronghold in the Flaming Wheel Sector, the Space Wolves would face their most grueling land engagement since the beginning of the war. The Titans would be indispensable support for the Legion. The Vulcan I and Vulcan II Legions, to which Acheron VIII belonged, were Baldur's preferred Titan Legions.
In order to make these two Titan Legions work for him, Balder asked Kasdin and his Mechanicus troops to attack the core power cabin of the Fist of Gogo Star Fortress in exchange for the assistance of Acheron VIII in exchange for sharing the technology therein.
"The Vulcan 1 Titan Legion can devote 50% of its forces to join this sacred battle." Kasdin said.
"Fifty percent? If I remember correctly, 50% of the legions have fewer than 5 Titans, including less than 60 Warlord Titans," Balder said after a moment's thought. "Too few." (Note: During the Great Crusade, Titan legions were extremely large. For example, the Voidwalker Titan Legion on Lucius's Forge World had 15 Titans, including Emperor Titans.)
"Sorry, this is the limit of what I can promise." Castin stopped, his massive body bent forward in a salute. The dancing robotic arms and tentacles also dropped, neatly placed at his sides in obedience.
"Isn't what I gave enough?" Balder turned and looked at the Archsage before him. "We have paid a sufficient price, Your Excellency. As you know, the first phase of the Sky Surveyor's replica has been completed. You have obtained a large amount of technology, as well as trade shares with the Space Wolves. All of this you have gained is enough to exchange for the assistance of a Titan Legion numbering over three digits. And you only want to give less than half of the price." Balder was unhappy.
"Tell the casting general of Huangquan No. 8 what I said. If you can't offer a sufficient price, then don't come here again." Balder said.
Afterwards, he strode towards the battlefield. There were still some miscellaneous soldiers to deal with in the distance. He wanted to resolve the battle here within 5 hours, and then return to the Endless Journey to prepare to meet the great sage Nolan from Lucius!
"Sir, we can do better." After a brief hesitation, Kasdin rushed over. As binary commands were transmitted across the communication link, the Skitarii of Huangquan No. 8 threw themselves into the battle with extraordinary enthusiasm and efficiency. At this point, the Orc Star Fort was about to fall! And Balder had to deal with other matters.
Chapter 137: Interlude, New Toys, and Choices (6K, additional update)
"You're back." Seeing Balder suddenly appear on the bridge of the Endless Journey, Du Kain immediately stepped forward, and the people around him were no longer surprised.
