Elon was an Aslan, and he could walk openly down the street without being suspected by other passersby, even if there were two hooded men following him.
However, other players naturally used system items to slightly modify his appearance, making him hunch over and lean on a cane, trying not to reveal the aura of a swordsman.
After all, he is a rare Saint-level being among humans, and it would be too easy for him to be recognized if he didn't change his appearance.
Now he looked like a fast-moving old man, draped in a linen robe, his robust figure completely concealed.
"It always gives me the feeling that I've reached the age of 500 prematurely."
Elon still felt a little awkward about this posture, but since he couldn't bear to shave his gray beard, he could only make do with it.
They arrived at their destination quickly.
Across the street, a vast fountain square is surrounded by lush green vines, and several luxurious and exquisite towers that reach into the clouds, along with the magnificent domed palaces located beneath them, immediately come into view.
Below the palace was a huge arched doorway, through which young Aslans in fitted dark blue uniforms were chatting and laughing as they went in and out.
"Royal Magic Academy"
Elon recognized the place at a glance. "I came back here to visit old friends ten years ago... Looking at this place now, well, not much has changed."
"However, this is indeed the location of the Empire's highest-level magic research institute, and the location where they conduct their research is surprisingly normal."
"After all, it has the new empress's permission, so it's all legitimate work. There's no need to hide in those dark corners."
Li Cheng put one hand on his hip and glanced at the guards near the gate. "There seem to be quite a few security guards and experts stationed here. Grandpa, do you have any ideas on how to get in?"
“I remember there were a few places I might be able to go into... but after so long, I don’t know if they’re still there.”
Li Cheng didn't quite understand Elon's meaning at first, until they went around to the back of the huge academy, to a wall surrounded by bushes.
This place was much more open and secluded than the main gate. Elon rummaged through the bushes, then bent down and lifted a semi-circular object from the haystack.
It turned out to be a stone manhole cover, but it was broken and only half of it remained. It was overgrown with weeds and looked very old, with many pits and bumps.
"...It really is there."
Elon looked on, seemingly speechless. "Back when I was teaching here, some students liked to sneak out and play in the streets. Now, more than a hundred years later, this godforsaken place still hasn't been filled in."
"Coaching?"
Li Cheng was somewhat surprised, "Isn't this the magic academy?"
"For us Aslans, magic is a fundamental subject that is required to learn. Even knights are not lacking in magical proficiency."
Elon snapped his fingers, and a glimmer of green light burst from his fingertips. "By the way, I'm also a transcendent-level mage."
"Wow, old man, that's impressive."
Li Cheng sighed sincerely.
He had tried to read those spellbooks on his own, but without the system's help, he couldn't understand what was written on them at all.
Even for talented indigenous people, reaching the master level through a single path might take a lifetime. Dual cultivation of magic and swordsmanship, aside from special career paths that inherently combine both, is probably only possible for humans like the Aslan, who are both talented and long-lived.
"It's nothing. To be honest, seeing you all so young yet already masters or even grandmasters in the Holy Maiden's place makes me feel ashamed of myself."
Elon sighed.
"Uh, that's different, sir."
“What’s the difference? I don’t know what you mean by ‘system’, but in my opinion it’s not much different from things like divine gifts or bloodlines.”
Elon tossed the glimmer of light into the opened well shaft. "The Aslans have a higher magical talent than ordinary people because of their bloodline. You travelers from other worlds don't steal or rob, and you grow faster because of the system. Isn't that also a kind of talent?"
Li Cheng scratched his head, unsure of what to say.
But just as the two were talking, a glimmer of light fell into the well, and a cry of surprise suddenly came from below.
"Eh!?"
Li Cheng and the others immediately looked down, only to see two young male students in academy uniforms, looking bewildered, gazing upwards in the green light at the bottom of the dusty well.
"Who...who are you people!?"
Oops!
Li Cheng's first reaction was that the situation was bad. It would be difficult to explain if they were seen. If the two students ran away from the well and reported to the security guards or teachers that there were suspicious people outside the academy, their operation might be exposed.
No sooner said than done, Elon, his brows furrowed and his voice sharp, "You two, get up here!"
This angry shout was full of authority, like a mouse seeing a cat, or a student encountering its natural enemy, the headmaster. The two students in the well immediately trembled and turned to run away.
"stop!"
However, Elon the Sword Saint was incredibly agile. Before Li Cheng could even see clearly, he darted down to the bottom of the well like the wind and grabbed the two students by the collar.
Moreover, he grabbed both people with just one hand, while using his other hand to lean on a cane.
"Which department are you students from?"
Elon's powerful voice commanded respect without anger.
"Magic...Magic Department..."
Did your teaching assistants issue you any leave slips to leave campus?
"No...no..."
The two students didn't recognize the old man at first glance, but the familiar, stern reprimand made them sweat profusely, and their faces almost broke into tears.
Elon grabbed the two students with one hand as easily as if they were two chicks, and stepped out of the well in a few steps without breaking a sweat.
"Go inside and take me to your teaching assistant!"
Li Chengben, who was standing to the side, was still confused, but then he saw Elon secretly wink at him.
He and Kuizi hurriedly went down into the well to catch up, and also put the well cover on to block the entrance.
The shaft below was dark and long. Two young trainees walked ahead with long faces, while Elon took the opportunity to ask them many questions.
"Give me your student IDs. What are your names? Who are your teaching assistants?"
As he spoke, he secretly handed the confiscated student ID to Li Cheng behind him.
The latter understood immediately and used the small portal opened by Ella to send a message back to the Seven Stars Society, where several player craftsmen immediately began to imitate it.
Chapter 164 No Taboos
After emerging from the well, Elon once again sternly criticized the two students who had skipped class, leaving them completely stunned.
Li Cheng observed his surroundings. The well seemed to lead to a garden within the academy, a relatively secluded corner rarely visited by people. Otherwise, no one would have escaped from here.
Meanwhile, the craftsmen under Ella's command had finished replicating the fake student ID cards and then teleported back through a mini space portal that consumed very little energy.
"Alright, considering that this is your first offense and you've shown a good attitude in admitting your mistake, I won't pursue the matter any further."
Elon took the two fake IDs from behind and returned them to the two trainees, saying, "But this is a one-time exception, understand?"
The two trainees nodded frantically, as if they had been granted a pardon, like chickens pecking at rice.
After the two trainees left, Li Cheng, holding the genuine identification, asked curiously, "Can we get into the research institute with this?"
“The two trainees’ certificates may not be registered. To be on the safe side, we need to get another teacher’s certificate.”
Elon stroked his beard. "Besides that, it would be best to change your clothes as well."
Li Cheng looked at the cloak he was wearing. Indeed, it was fine on the street, but in the academy, he seemed a bit out of place compared to the students in uniform.
It was fortunate that the two students were so intimidated by Elon's aura that their minds went blank; otherwise, they would have been suspicious of Li Cheng and Kui Zi Ge's attire.
"But without hoods to cover our faces, wouldn't our appearances be quite different from those of the Aslans?"
Li Cheng said with concern.
"Don't worry, advanced students majoring in mage also have mage robes. Just wear a pointed hat to cover it up."
As they spoke, Elon led Li Cheng and the others along a small path to the outside of the garden, to the foot of a rather old-fashioned, pointed tower.
An arched greenhouse is connected to the tower, and various strange and wonderful plants can be seen inside through the glass exterior walls.
The tower's doors were tightly shut, with only two knights in armor standing silently before them, wielding halberds.
"This is the academy's old storeroom, used to store some low-grade materials."
Elon walked to the door while explaining the situation.
As they approached the base of the tower, a faint blue light emanated from the helmets of the two knights, followed by a deep voice.
"Who comes here, and what do you seek?"
"Wow, these two suits of armor have that vibe."
Li Cheng examined it closely.
"Bourbon Demister, come and get a few sets of uniforms for the students."
Elon answered fluently.
The knight who spoke had a slight blue glint in his eyes. "I'm issuing this warning once. Mischievous student, please do not use the name of the deceased professor. If this happens again, I will report it to your teaching assistant."
"Uh... this is a bit unexpected."
Elon's face stiffened. "I clearly had a drink with him eighty years ago... Never mind, let me think about it again."
"Didn't you say you visited a friend ten years ago? Why don't we try that person's name?"
Li Cheng asked tentatively.
"That guy also passed away five years ago, returning to the embrace of the Earth Goddess. I'm afraid it's not going to work."
Li Cheng didn't know what to say, so he scratched his head and said, "Please accept my condolences."
"It's alright, we old folks are used to this kind of thing."
Elon stroked his chin, looked at the two suits of armor, and then called out another name, "Vesar Bavarok, come and get a uniform for the cadet."
"Understood, Professor Vesal. Please show me your teaching certificate. Also, I hope you won't use the names of deceased predecessors to make jokes next time."
"How come even this run-down place requires a teacher's certificate now?"
Elon scratched his head in frustration. "I forgot my ID. We'll just go in and grab a couple of outfits. We'll be out in no time."
"Excuse me, Professor, if you forgot your identification, please go back and bring it before coming here; if you lost your identification, please go to the registrar's office to report it lost and apply for a temporary one..."
"Sigh, never mind, let's just use the old method."
"boom"
After saying that, Elon slapped the armored knight in front of him into a pile of ashes.
"Warning, warning..."
Before the other armored knight could finish his two sentences, Elon, who had instantly appeared in front of him, slapped him to pieces.
"Is this...is this alright?"
Li Cheng stared in disbelief at the scene.
"I'll just recite a spell and put it back for them once it's out."
Elon waved his hand dismissively. "Don't worry, I've done this before... though not here."
As the spire's doors opened, a spacious hall unfolded inside. A deep blue, floating spirit descended slowly from the sky, looking down upon the crowd. "I am the most esteemed administrator of this place, the Spirit of Knowledge. Mischievous students, this is not a place for you..."
Before he could finish speaking, Elon reached out and grabbed the blue spirit with his large, fan-like hand, which then squeezed it into a ball and tossed it into a corner.
The skilled movements clearly indicated it wasn't the first time, leading Li Cheng to wonder what Elon had actually done here when he was coaching.
Since it wasn't originally a place to store valuables, once the two knights and the administrator at the entrance were dealt with, no one inside the spire stopped them.
Emerging from the storeroom, the three transformed into two young students in dark blue academy robes, following a steady-looking elderly professor.
They blended in with the students on the road with almost no sense of incongruity, and were even more well-behaved than some of the noble students who dressed flamboyantly and rode around in spirit birds or earth dragons.
The research institute is located in the north of the college. Generally speaking, the top universities are often the top research institutions in the area, and professors and prospective interns are often the main staff of these institutions.
Unlike the warehouse where two magical armors were merely symbolically placed, the passageway here was guarded by elite Aslan guards wearing real winged helmets.
"Not all teachers are qualified to enter and leave the research institute. To be on the safe side, we'd better wait here for a while."
Elon led the two men to stand against the wall at the intersection far from the main entrance.
What are you waiting for? Li Cheng looked around in surprise until he saw an elderly professor being helped out of the main gate of the research institute by a female student and walking towards a building on the side.
Elon immediately took a step forward and opened his arms to meet him.
