But it still happened.
Leon speculated that the battleship was planning to make a brief resupply stop on Maxim before entering the Farr system - they obviously didn't know that drastic changes had taken place on Maxim, and they didn't know that the greenskins were wreaking havoc in every corner of the Solar Star Region.
This led them right into the encirclement of the orcs.
It would have been fine if the reinforcements could have easily defeated the orcs, but the reinforcements actually only consisted of a battle barge.
Not to mention dealing with the orcs, this fleet's strength can't even make a splash in front of the guerrilla Sun Expeditionary Fleet.
Of course, human ships can use their speed advantage to shake off the orcs' large warships. When the orcs' small warships cannot pose a fundamental threat, they can still escape as long as they are willing to pay some price unilaterally.
But Matt Horner's report was clear.
That battle barge is boarding the Ork battleship!
At this point, Li Ang no longer expected any reinforcements to come. He even wanted to organize a troop to rescue the reinforcements.
Armidale, Hayes, Kurland, Thorne. All the commanders who could speak on this planet were quickly summoned by Leon at this moment. They wanted to discuss this issue together.
In fact, there is nothing much to discuss. As the final initiator of the high wall, even if it is just for the consideration of coalition cohesion, they cannot just watch the reinforcements die.
The only question is how to save them? Who will do it?
When everyone gathered in the conference room, the robot servant happened to hand over the latest information passed back by Horner again.
"The battle barge didn't respond to our calls. But Horner was able to identify it from the code on its keel."
After reading the message, Leon explained the situation to everyone, "It's the Abomination, which belongs to the Black Templars."
This result did not surprise Li Ang.
Rather, if he combined the Imperial Fist Group with such reckless behavior, the only thing he could think of was the Black Templar.
Only a bunch of lunatics would launch an attack without regard for the consequences under such circumstances.
"Black Templar?"
Kurland frowned: "Why not the Eternal Expedition?"
The Eternal Crusade was the flagship of the VIIth Legion, assigned to the Black Templars by Dorn during the Second Founding. It is a legendary Glorious Queen-class battleship.
Although both ships belong to the battleship class, the Glorious Queen class, with a length starting at 20 kilometers, holds unquestionable supremacy in naval warfare. If the Eternal Crusade were to appear here, it alone could send all the Orks in space to their funeral along with Gomo.
Thorne was not surprised by this: "Perhaps this is just a branch of the Black Templars. Our brothers always keep their company numbers mysterious."
"Regardless, rescue operations are imminent."
Leon turned the topic back on track, "Admiral Hayes, I hope your fleet can serve as the main force of this rescue operation."
Hayes nodded in agreement. Leon continued to look at Thorne: "Captain Thorne, do you have enough return torpedo boats on your strike cruiser?"
The strike cruisers were designed to support the operations of a company of a hundred men after the Codex was split, but the battle barges were large enough to accommodate a full, thousand-man warband. Based on the data provided by Thorn, Leon discovered that the return torpedoes they had could only bring back three hundred men at most. This meant they couldn't possibly bring back all the Black Templars.
But he did have another idea.
"Concentrate the boarding torpedoes. I'll have the Hunter lead the charge."
On the projection screen, Leon brought up the boat he had crafted on Blue Star. He meticulously polished the boat's ram and dragon head. Although he had done so only for aesthetics, now was the time for it to come in handy.
"The Hunter will take all the boarding torpedoes and ram into the Ork battleship to board and assist the Black Templars inside. We will then use the weapons on the Ork battleship to launch boarding torpedoes at our ship and complete our return."
Li Ang straightforwardly stated this bold idea, but the others looked at each other, obviously thinking that it was a bit too idealistic.
"We can't confirm whether the Ork guns are capable of launching our boarding torpedoes..."
"I will make sure that happens."
Li Ang made the final decision.
The expeditionary fleet's surprise attack opens up space for the Paragon's strike cruisers to launch return torpedoes. Return torpedoes and boarding torpedoes will also target the strike cruisers.
The expeditionary fleet cannot withstand the orcs' continued siege, so the entire operation must be led by elite forces and resolved quickly.
Leon rejected Kurland's idea of joining the boarding party. He needed to rely on his position as the ultimate commander of the High Wall and couldn't let him take any risks. The warriors of the Fist of the Exemplar were originally supposed to participate in this operation aboard their strike cruiser, but with so many veterans decimated, they weren't elite enough to handle a quick victory.
Leon looked at Amidel.
The boarding operation to save the Black Templars must center around these veterans of the Second Legion.
Forge World intensively prepared for the rescue operation, and all resources were redeployed under Leon's orders. Soon, the Hunter and the Excelsior strike cruiser set out first.
The Excelsior would first rendezvous with the fleet commanded by Horner before coordinating their actions. The Hunter, carrying Second Legion veterans, Felynx, and boarding torpedoes, would be the first to approach the Ork battleships using its powerful Sky Comet engines.
Although Leon and his men had tried their best, it still took them nearly a day to reach the battle site between the Abomination and the orcs.
While they were on their way to rescue, the Black Templars were already locked in a bitter battle on this maze-like Orc battleship.
Although the battleship's foundation was a strike cruiser belonging to the Imperial Fists, its bulk had been altered beyond recognition by the orcs using their power of thought. The Black Templars warriors searched the bridge based on their memories, but the path that should have led to it now led only to a pile of orc-filled garbage dumps.
Looking at the Emperor's Champion Travis and Grand Marshal Bosimonde fighting beside him, Lancelot, holding the battle flag, understood something.
They have fallen into the orcs' killing maze.
Chapter 107 is not a duel.
The members of the Sword Brotherhood surrounded Lancelot, who was holding a battle flag, but even so, Lancelot had to draw out his chainsword with one hand to deal with the orcs who slipped through the gaps in the human wall.
He was a young warrior within the Black Templars, and although his exceptional achievements had earned him the honor of being a standard-bearer, he was not yet proficient in single-handed combat.
They had been moving forward on the battleship for who knows how many hours, but they seemed to be making no progress, just wandering around in circles of one pile of junk after another.
The long battle almost exhausted the ammunition carried by the Black Templars. In this kind of boarding battle where they could not get any more ammunition, they could only use melee to deal with all the greenskins that approached them. But this in turn increased the physical exhaustion of the warriors.
Ten thousand? Or twenty thousand?
Three more orcs broke through the human wall, and Lancelot had to pick up his sword to deal with them.
"There are too many greenskins, we are stuck in the mud!"
He shouted to the Grand Marshal while fighting back.
"Then raise the battle flag higher!"
Bosimonde roared in response, then asked:
"Where is Issagar?"
"I don't know! We lost contact with most of the Crusader team hours ago!"
Travis noticed Lancelot's predicament. He came back from the outside with a black sword and killed three greenskins with just two swords.
Lancelot looked at the Emperor's champion in the Armor of Faith with some envy - these warriors who dreamed of the Emperor before the war would gain unparalleled power in a short period of time.
They will be regarded as the Emperor's chosen ones, and granted by the priests of the Black Templars the most precious Armor of Faith and Black Sword in the chapter. They will use their extraordinary strength to undertake tasks that ordinary warriors cannot accomplish, and win glory that ordinary people can hardly imagine.
Though most will perish in the service they undertake, becoming a Champion of the Emperor, dedicated to his service, is the dream of most Black Templars.
But Travis is not one of them.
Travis was one of the few people in the Black Templars who was not interested in the honor of becoming the Emperor's Champion, but this time he dreamed of the Emperor and was chosen as the Emperor's Champion.
Before this boarding, many brothers had complaints about this.
But now it seems that Travis's strength is worthy of the title of Emperor Champion.
He is also the absolute core of this boarding.
All the Black Templar warriors firmly believed that as long as they could deliver Travis to the orc warlord on this battleship, they would win the victory they deserved.
The problem was how to get the Emperor's Champion to meet the Ork Warlord.
A thousand soldiers may seem like a lot, but they are insignificant on a battleship that is more than ten kilometers long.
In addition, the passages inside the battleship are complicated, and the further they advance, the more dispersed their forces become.
Bosimonde brought down the hulking orc before him, using three bolt rounds, more than he had budgeted for to kill it.
He knocked down a smaller greenskin with his helmet, then crushed a third's skull with the gauntlet of his bolter, the alien's brains splattering across his armor.
The Grand Marshal was highly skilled, but if the battle had progressed to the point where even he had to use all his might to repel ordinary greenskins, that in itself was a warning of danger.
"Hold on a little longer, brothers! We're facing more and more greenskins. This is definitely a sign that we're approaching a critical enemy!"
Bosimonde encouraged everyone with words, but he also understood that his brothers needed practical support beyond words.
"Where are the guns?"
"There's still one base group of ammunition left!"
The Tech Sergeant replied loudly.
"Why don't you fire!"
"Open fire now, our brothers will be caught in the crossfire!"
"Let's take the risk!"
The giant bolters and Gatling gun turrets roared once again, and the death storm they set off briefly created a clearing among the endless stream of greenskins.
A basic amount of ammunition was quickly used up, and the final supporting firepower cleared the obstacles for the soldiers, but several soldiers were also knocked down by their own firepower.
Some warriors tried to carry the wounded, but more orcs were coming up from behind.
"We can't take them."
Travis said sadly.
Everyone understands this.
They could only carry these injured brothers to the bunker and handed them their remaining ammunition. The technical sergeant also handed them a thermal bomb.
"By Om Messiah, I wish your sacrifice to be observed by the Emperor."
The wounded soldiers nodded slightly, raised their grenade launchers, and began to cover the retreat of the main force.
"For the Emperor!"
The remaining soldiers continued to advance amid the roars of the wounded. They passed the last valve and stepped into a relatively spacious hall.
This is the circulation center inside the battleship. Several key nodes on the battleship can be reached through here. If they continue to move straight forward, the bridge that is their target will be not far ahead.
But when they saw the burly green-skinned man standing in the middle of the hall, all the soldiers stopped.
In his left hand, the green-skinned man held a dying tech boy, and in his right hand, he held a giant metal claw shaped like a beast's head. A shoulder-mounted ka-ka rifle was tucked into the fur vest on his back.
The orc warlord also looked at these Black Templar warriors, saliva dripping from the corners of his mouth that could not be closed because of his huge fangs, and his eyes were full of undisguised bloodlust.
"Very good, you did a great job! As expected, if you just wait here, canned shrimp will be delivered to your door!"
Gold Teeth laughed wildly, threw the technical boy away, and pulled out his machete from behind. "You've saved your life! Get out of here! Don't get in the way of my fight!"
"So many canned shrimps, enough to keep me entertained for a long time!"
He pointed the tip of his blade at each Astartes in a provocative manner: "Who of you wants to go first? I will chop you all into mushrooms!"
Bosimonde looked at the enemy in front of him with caution. The enemy's size already showed that he was not to be trifled with. "There's no need for morality when dealing with aliens. Let's all attack together!"
The Black Templars began to control the hall tacitly, and the warriors in the front followed Bosimonde and rushed towards the orc warlord.
But it's not just these Space Marines who are unreasonable. In terms of combat IQ alone, the Ork warlords are no less capable than them.
Seeing the shrimps disperse, a sly glint flashed in Gold Tooth's eyes. He pounded his chest and swung his machete, distracting the Astartes. A small Squig had somehow climbed onto his shoulder and, unnoticed, began operating the shoulder-mounted ka-ka.
The daka gun suddenly opened fire, and the orcs' specially made solid bullets were fired out, but its target was not the approaching canned shrimps, but the dome of the hall.
Accompanied by a teeth-grinding tearing sound, the dome of the hall suddenly collapsed!
Chapter 108: Unpleasant support.
The shattered dome knocked down several charging Black Templar warriors, but Bosimonde, who was at the forefront, was not among them. He and several other warriors had already rushed to the side of the orc warlord, and several of them had already engaged in a battle with the orc warlord.
The remaining warriors were unable to support their leader, and the entire Black Templar decapitation force had been split in two by the broken dome.
Lancelot, who was holding the flag and walking in the middle of the team, was now in the rear half of the division. Travis, who had fought back to protect Lancelot, was now standing shoulder to shoulder with him.
This means that the Emperor's Champion cannot reach the battlefield where he is supposed to be at this moment!
The Black Templar warriors were at a loss for a moment, but fortunately, the Grand Marshal, who was caught in a difficult battle, still gave his orders:
"Take a detour! We must kill this greenskin leader!"
The success of the entire battle depended on it, so all the soldiers dared not slack off. They quickly circled the corridors on both sides of the hall, trying to find the direction to the decisive battle site.
But this was obviously a trap carefully set by the greenskins.
