As the flagship, the Endurance would draw the enemy's main firepower, allowing other fleets to escape and seek help from the Empire amidst the chaos.
Moreover, just before the battle began, Hades received a communication from Enrique, the master craftsman of the Death Guard.
"Hades, Lord Mortalian once ordered the Foundry to supply a large quantity of Alpha-type explosives suitable for flagship blasting."
"And the area that its complete explosion could reach was exactly the size of the Endurance."
Hades remained silent.
"I see."
He said.
"What do you mean?"
"The Death Guard cannot exist without a Primarch."
The voice of Balasin, the company commander of the first company, broke into their communication channel.
"We tried to persuade him, but Lord Mortarian insisted on staying."
“But if all the Terran Death Guards remain, we can hold him off so that Lord Mortalian can wait for reinforcements.”
"This is not a rational decision."
Hades sighed silently. Indeed, rather than confronting the enemy directly, a blockade and retreat were the wiser course of action.
He had originally been wondering if Mortarion and the ascended Mortarion were capable of fighting him, but now the situation was clear.
But the Primarch chose to stay and participate in his "fight of destiny".
He has already chosen death.
"The entire think tank is on standby."
Fernando's voice rang out.
"Hades, when Lord Mortalion decides to detonate, please make sure to place the Think Tank's marker beacon on Mortalion's power armor."
Yes, if the other side can teleport to the Endurance, then they can do the same.
Hades wanted to ask, "Is it reliable?" After all, the warp was currently extremely turbulent, so could the psionic think tank really use short-distance teleportation without any problems?
But he knew that there were some things he could only choose to believe.
Hades chose to trust the Deathguard think tank's capabilities.
"it is good"
So they both fell silent.
Enrique did not mention that, in order to ensure the perfect detonation of the main bomb, he was currently leading other technical sergeants to guard the bomb's vicinity, and if Mortarion detonated the bomb, they would be the first wave of Deathguards to perish.
Fernando remained silent. The rune array drawn by the think tank was gleaming brightly. To ensure the success of this teleportation, all the think tank members would dedicate their lives.
Barasin remained silent, anxiously deploying the other fleet positions, as there were currently no Barbaros soldiers capable of performing this task.
Therefore, he must live; a heroic death is not for him.
Hades remained silent. They all knew that even though the Think Tank's teleportation could transport more than one Primarch, Hades's physical condition made it impossible for him to perform psionic teleportation. Furthermore, Hades needed to be far away from Mortalian the moment the beacon was placed.
He took a deep breath and continued firing steadily at [Motalian].
Hades stared speechlessly at the two Mortarians locked in combat before him, neither of them leaving the other any chance of survival!
Having witnessed the corrupted figure after his ascension to demonhood, Mortarion has chosen to die to prove his innocence.
Either he killed him, or he detonated the Endurance, killing them both!
But the Death Guardians chose to preserve their Primarch!
Hades swallowed hard. This was the connection between the Primarch and their offspring. He vaguely recalled the books he had read, the stories of the Ultramarines who had risked their lives to buy time for Guilliman.
Now, it's the Death Guard's turn.
Time ticked by, the fog grew thicker, the helmet display sounded an alarm, and visibility decreased.
Mortarian's movements became increasingly labored, his sweat and blood mingling and spraying out, corroding away in the poisonous fog before even touching the ground, hissing and crackling.
From the shattered armor, pierced by the scythe, poisonous mist poured in, and Hades was certain he could see pus and swelling.
Compared to Mortarian, his other self, [Motarian], seemed much more relaxed, like a cat toying with its prey, [he] began to easily tease the other.
Weren't you just being quite talkative?
He raised an eyebrow, looking at himself with a rather pleasant expression.
Why did you stop talking?
[Motalian] unleashed a powerful slash!
The only response to him was Mortarian's labored breathing. Without a moment to lose focus, Mortarian felt his vision blurring, and a persistent dull pain emanated from his wounds, clinging to his spinal cord and coursing through his bloodstream.
As expected, he was still too weak.
Rest assured, I, though lost, am still merciful. I will accept your head and grant you a merciful death.
And everything you have is mine.
Plague and disease will bless all of this.
It's a pity you won't be able to witness your offspring struggling and screaming in agony.
With a single, effortless slash, Mortarion was knocked back.
Mortarian knelt on the deck, breathing heavily.
He's dying.
Hades rushed forward, but it was clear that not everything brought about by the plague could be swallowed up by the Dark Domain—the damage was irreversible.
"I'm not you."
Motalian said,
Yes, I'm not as weak as you, someone who can only defeat enemies with the strength of a mortal.
[You, whom I can't protect at all.]
[Motalian]'s relaxed voice rang out, [he] lowered his scythe, and stepped out of the mist.
Death has come to reap lives.
"I'm not you."
Mortarian muttered to himself as if he were completely oblivious.
His hand touched the scythe of annihilation, where a button disguised as a pattern lay quietly.
"I am not you, because—"
"I will never fall into depravity!"
Mortarian pressed it.
At the same time, all the Death Guards' channels received a message from their Primarch.
"Thank you, I'm sorry."
explosion!
Everything has lost its luster.
Mortarian's eyes widened, and his gas mask hissed as if he were cursing something.
[Mortalian] continued to swing his scythe in vain, but in the blinding light of the explosion, Hades turned and lunged at [Mortalian]. The annihilation of [Mortalian] stopped his further attack!
A faint, negligible blue psionic energy enveloped Mortalian, whose consciousness was gradually fading.
A massive shockwave reached the hall, engulfing everything in a flash of light.
The silent yet magnificent explosion engulfed everything. The Endurance's streamlined flagship was suddenly broken in two, and huge black and moss-green fragments exploded. Countless tiny objects were swept out of the flagship in the turbulence and mercilessly thrown into space.
The other Death Guard cruisers, which had already received orders, started up one after another. The azure plasma engines roared, some ships rushed towards the enemy ships, while others took advantage of the explosion flash of the Endurance to quietly leave the scene.
For a moment, beside the broken, massive hull of the Endurance, the fleet, like swimming fish, was exchanging fire, but the tiny flames beside the slowly sinking Mother in the background seemed so powerless and laughable.
[Motalian] lifts up Hades.
Mortalian's condition was not good; it was downright terrible. His once beautiful and abundant diseases, plagues, and parasites were listless, and his charred wings drooped limply to the side, their black holes quite conspicuous.
I hope you will play your part.
In the final moments, Mortarion used its wings to save the two directly from the shockwave.
But Mortarian narrowed his eyes, a unique untouchable.
This will be very useful.
Chapter 93 Extra 44 So your name is Mortarian?!
Hades was lying against the wall, looking utterly hopeless.
At the very end of the chain that Hades could reach, swarms of Nurgles were shrieking, those mischievous and noisy creatures seemingly playing some kind of rope game, defiantly bouncing back and forth along the very edge Hades could reach.
At first, Hades would pull on the chain and reach forward with all his might, successfully crushing many Nurgles.
The semi-dried slime on the ground was the corpses of those Nurgles, and clusters of mushrooms sprouted from them.
But he later realized that this behavior was too foolish, and Hades was already exhausted, so he abandoned this way of passing the time and instead chose to contemplate life.
In Nurgle's territory, creatures perceive time in a strange way; Hades felt as if he had been lying there for eternity.
The last time he felt time was so long was during the week of overtime work that followed the National Day holiday.
At least this time he doesn't have to do any work.
Ever since he was tragically thrown into the shitty world of Warhammer 40K, Hades has been busy every day trying to survive, trying to stay alive, and trying to figure out how to make a way out for himself.
But not anymore, because he really fell into a turd can.
After several attempts to escape, and successfully killing two plague warriors guarding him while unarmored, Hades realized a harsh truth—
That means he can't escape.
He should be on one of the Deathguard's ships right now. Where could he possibly run to?
Forget about stealing a ship and running away; the Deathguard's ships are all made of flesh and blood, and cannot be piloted by anyone other than a Nurgle.
He didn't have any thermal explosives or anything to create an opening in the spaceship.
The only regret is that during his previous escape, Hades didn't have the resolve to end his own life, and was instead knocked unconscious and imprisoned by Mortarion with a scythe.
The good news is that Mortarion and Deathguard most likely don't want him to die.
They originally planned to give Hades an amputation as a "gift," but fortunately, Hades made them realize that in the [Death Guard] environment, Hades might die from infection immediately after the surgery.
Although the ship is mostly composed of psionic viruses and bacteria, it also contains many diseases from the physical world.
The Death Guardian has absolutely no concept of "disinfection".
Their pharmacists are simple and brutal. What, your intestines are ripped out? No problem, your benevolent father will protect you. He'll pour two spoonfuls of shit soup and stuff it back in, as long as it doesn't affect your progress.
But it was clear that their special medicine, the different kinds of psionic excrement soup, was ineffective against Hades.
Thinking of this, unfortunate memories suddenly caught up with Hades again.
【Motalian】 sparing his life was essentially using him as a guinea pig for alchemy.
Mortarion had genuinely tried to corrupt him, or rather, to test the limits of Hades' anti-psychic powers.
So Mortalian concocted a bunch of strange potions, which he either forced down Hades' throat or injected into him.
Although [Motalian] mumbled a lot during the first administration of the drug, Hades was in a state of "Why don't you die?" or "Why don't I die?" so he didn't listen to [Motalian] much and simply chose to mute himself.
After administering the medication and observing the reaction, [Motalian] left, ceasing any further attempts at ineffective communication.
And Hades' reaction?
There must be only one—
yue——
The unpleasant memory of being maliciously forced to eat feces began to assault Hades, and Hades felt himself about to vomit again, so he quickly stopped the memory.
Indeed, he would rather be caught by Khorne than by Nurgle.
