Hades blinked again, trying to clear his head, then glanced briefly at the power armor and scythe obituary. Good, no problem.
As if sensing Hades's readiness, there was a knock on the door.
Mortarian turned off the display, and the ticking stopped.
Hades stood at attention in the center of the room and held up the obituary.
"Please come in."
Mortarian's hoarse voice rang out.
Hades quickly got into character, put on a serious face, and became a proper background character.
The door opened, and a soldier in standard combat gear entered the room.
He stood at attention and performed the Eagle Salute.
Mortarian nodded, gesturing for him to put it down.
"please."
Mortarian looked at Hades, who handed the sickle obituary to the newcomer, instructing him to hold the sickle horizontally with both hands.
The slightly flickering white light, hmm, no problem.
"By the weapon bestowed by the Emperor, you shall speak your mind and not conceal anything."
Even though Mortarian believed there was nothing wrong with his offspring, Hades still decided to conduct a screening.
After learning that Hades could transmit the Dark Realm through the scythe of death, Mortarion and Hades chose this method.
He could use the pretext of selecting new troops to do so.
Within the legion, swearing an oath using weapons bestowed by the Emperor is a fairly common practice.
While Hades was still racking his brains about how to properly use his weapon to get the warriors to swear an oath, Mortarian casually said to Barasin,
"Swearing by Hades' obituary, this is the first weapon the Emperor has bestowed upon the Deathguard since its founding."
Ha, I didn't know it could be done like that?!
Staring at the obituary in his hand, Hades fell into deep thought once again. Hmm. It certainly seems that way.
Why didn't he think of that?
The solemn silence in the room brought Hades back to his senses. His work was done, and Hades silently walked to the corner, watching Mortarion and the Barbarus warrior.
"Denil, what did you see?"
The warrior opposite him swayed slightly, then spoke.
"I saw twisted flesh and festering sores."
"My eyes felt like they were covered by a white mist, and I felt like I was lying on a pile of corpses."
"Then."
Denier hesitated for a moment,
Motarian stared at him quietly.
Denier only spoke after making a huge decision.
“I saw you kneel down.”
Mortarian didn't move, and this was what most of the warriors saw.
Is what you said true?
The Primarch's imposing aura descended imperceptibly, and the atmosphere in the room seemed to instantly turn icy.
Denier flinched, but his gaze immediately hardened.
“I swear this is everything I saw.”
"it is good."
Motalian raised an eyebrow, signaling the end of the interrogation-like interview.
Hades stepped forward, took the scythe, watched Denil leave, and then silently waited for the next person to arrive.
"Is that enough?"
Hades leaned closer to look at the screen in front of Mortalian. During the five hours of interrogation, they had also picked out a few good candidates.
Moreover, to Hades' surprise, even after experiencing the previous illusions, there were no signs of corrosion in the Death Guard.
Even Calathifon was merely startled.
"Ah."
Mortarian was still pondering where he should start looking for the Untouchables.
Chapter 86 Makado is working overtime today too.
The cloth flags hung slowly, and the dim light cast uneven shadows on their folds.
In the Death Guard's conference room, several company commanders and think tank members sat at the table.
Motalian sat at the head of the table, listening attentively to Balasin's report.
The reorganization of Deathguard's think tank is largely complete, with Fernando taking the lead in the newly formed Undertaker. The chief think tank has been renamed Lamplighters, and the Undertaker's procession will be moved to the floor below the original think tank library area as a warning.
The newly formed Gravekeepers are led by Garo, the former commander of the Seventh Company. Most of the team members are rational veterans from the moderate and neutral factions. Some Barbarus descendants who performed well and remained rational and restrained after experiencing the illusion were also incorporated into the team as temporary members.
Blanca replaced the original company commander of the 7th Company.
The company assignments for Barbalus descendants have been finalized, largely consistent with the initial company assignments during recruit training. However, some Barbalus descendants volunteered for the 7th Company, totaling less than 500 people.
Vox was moved to the first company as a replacement for Balasin.
Mortarian was aware of some of the negotiations and struggles among these Terran dark forces.
In the past, he would have despised these underhanded tactics and decided to marginalize them.
But now, every warrior has a role to play in the face of that dark future, even though Mortarion is still somewhat displeased.
So he simply remained silent, deliberately watching as these veterans communicated with him through Hades.
Hades can handle it anyway.
If Hades knew what Mortarion was thinking, he would probably be wailing again that his older brother still hadn't listened to him.
As for Hades's position, he is currently the only untouchable member of the Death Guard, so Mortarion simply didn't assign him a position and instead included him in the Death Shroud.
After the Death Guard found the Untouchables, they began to give Hades the command of the Untouchables.
The Death Shroud, Mortarion's personal guard, he has currently selected five of his personal guards on Barbaros to form his defense squad.
These soldiers clad in Terminator power armor will become Mortalian's scythe.
Mortarian still remembers Hades' surprise when he announced the list and composition of the death shrouds.
"Huh, there are five of them?"
Mortalian wants to fill the two remaining slots with Untouchables.
"I--"
But before he could speak, Hades interrupted him.
Why don't you use seven?
?
Why do you think I would deploy seven guards?
This has stumped Hades again. Brother, look at your company, they practically have the number seven etched on their foreheads.
But he accurately judged from Mortarian's rhetorical question and tone that this was not the correct way to say it.
"Hmm, so why?"
In fact, within the basic knowledge of Babarus, there is a portion of numerology.
Prior to this, the knowledge on Barbarus was monopolized by the alien lords.
Mortalian preferred reading numerology to books that taught people to torture others through rituals.
Seven is a beautiful number, like a sickle, and the loneliest prime number below ten.
Sometimes, liking and getting used to things don't have a reason.
But now, Mortarian glanced at Hades, who was pretending to be stupid.
"There are five, not seven."
Ah. Ah, ah?
Hades would never have known that he had, in a wondrous way, brought Mortarion's choice of seven to an end.
Barasin's reports continued, and the responses to each task assigned were roughly as Mortarian had anticipated.
Time ticked by, and the Death Guard reorganization report was about to conclude.
A servant wearing a green and white robe entered. Unlike ordinary servants, its robe was trimmed with a thin gold edge, highlighting its difference.
It knelt before Mortarian, holding in its hands a slender cylindrical box engraved with gold patterns, upon which the Imperial double-headed eagle gleamed.
The other company commanders present, as well as those who were being transferred, held their breath and lowered their heads to avoid eye contact.
Generally speaking, after the initial adjustment period of the Legion, the Emperor will send a highly respected Primarch to lead their brothers in continuing their studies and integrating them into the Primarch circle.
Generally speaking, Horus, the Primarch of the Sixteenth Legion and Shadowmoon Wolves, would teach the newly joined Primarchs.
As the "first" Primarch to be found, Horus led most of the Legions during the years before all the Primarchs were found. His humble and kind image left a deep impression on the Fourteenth Legion.
Hopefully, the letter contains the Emperor's request for their Primarchs to seek out Horus for instruction, and not something else entirely.
Perhaps Mortarian and the other Barbarus were not yet aware of this, but for Chief Commander Barasin, this letter had arrived rather early.
If we factor in the time it took for Terra to relay the message here, plus the administrative processing time, then the letter would have been sent precisely during the days when they experienced the hallucinations.
No, it can't be, Balasin thought to himself.
If it were truly the worst-case scenario, they wouldn't be facing just a letter.
Mortarian frowned, removed his usual combat gloves, and picked up the secret letter presented by the servant with his bare hands. Upon identifying the Fourteenth Legion Commander's genetic code, a thin crack appeared in the small golden box, revealing a piece of parchment carefully tied with gold thread inside.
As if impatient, Mortarian simply removed the silk thread and unfolded the letter.
The Emperor's exclusive gold coat of arms and the coat of arms of Macado flashed briefly at the end of the letter.
After a long silence, Mortarian finally spoke.
"I have been ordered to go to Terra immediately."
Balasin looked up.
"Commander, should the legion prepare for the return fleet immediately?"
"No, I will go alone."
"They will send a fleet over this afternoon at 4 PM Standard Terra time."
"The hidden port on the right side of the Endurance will be opened at that time."
Beneath the hood, Mortarian's expression was inscrutable.
"Barasin, now, immediately send all soldiers back to the rest room and stand by."
Motarian suddenly said something else.
"Keep the foundry as normal, and keep all other departments that have contact with the outside world as normal."
"Furthermore, those messengers want to see Hades."
At noon that day, it was 12:00 AM Standard Terra time.
.
"Vox, don't be nervous."
Mortarian sat expressionless in the conference room, which was noticeably smaller than the Primarch's size, looking at Vox across from him.
He had previously contacted Morag, who had originally been included in the death shroud.
