Qi Yanxi found her reaction strange and shot up from his chair. "Has Sheng Yize been ill-treating you?"

"No… we're fine. I'm gonna hang up if that's all." An Xiaxia hung up after that.

Qi Yanxi gripped his phone tightly, his head swimming. He nearly called someone to track An Xiaxia down, but only smiled bitterly after some consideration.

Rubbing his forehead, Qi Yanxi leaned back in his chair, feeling exhausted.

He had married Mu Li reluctantly out of responsibility. It was for that child as much as to live up to An Xiaxia's expectations.

He had barely had any proper relationships, let alone know how to handle a marriage.

Despite the seemingly harmonious life they had, he and Mu Li were an estranged couple. Living with her under the same roof was suffocating him.

There was a tap on the door and Mu Li walked in with a glass of milk.

"Are you tired? Have some milk. It'll help you sleep." Mu Li smiled gently and sweetly at him.

Qi Yanxi smiled back and thanked her in a detached, polite manner. "Thank you. Don't stay up too late."

"How's everything at work? I see you've been working very late these days…"

"It's fine."

The conversation stopped there abruptly.

Mu Li looked down, her eyelashes quivering. She darted a look at the glass of milk out of the corner of her eye and said, "I'm off to bed, then."

Qi Yanxi replied indifferently, switched on his computer, and busied himself with his work.

He picked up the milk and took a sip.

Half an hour later, he began to get drowsy, but felt like he was heating up at the same time. His vision went blurry, as if he was having hallucinations.

A pair of soft hands steadied him in time. "Yanxi, are you alright?"

Qi Yanxi clutched the hands and realized that his own palms were frighteningly hot. Driven by instinct, he pressed that soft body to the table.

"Xiaxia…" he mumbled, muddleheaded.

Mu Li bit down on her own hand, recalling what Li Fanxing had told her that afternoon when she had offered her the drug.
