Guess who I am

Chapter 5 - Chapter If You Don't Want to Say

Jacob ran into Daniel on his way to class and almost ran over him.Because a drunk student was distracted by throwing a supermarket trolley into the river, and then "bang", he hit something hard, and the book in his hand fell with a clatter. land.

"I'm really sorry!" he said, frantically picking up some papers that looked like little papers.Only then did he notice who he hit.

A big smile broke across Daniel's face, revealing his dimples. "Action is free, but always leads to a certain result."

"Do you have to explain the three words 'it doesn't matter' in a philosophical way?" While Daniel was chattering, Jacob handed over the paper.

"No, it's Nietzsche to be precise. But yes, of course it doesn't matter. Running into you reminds me of fatalism, and maybe it means we're meant to be roommates."

Daniel's determined and confident smile made Jacob shake his head and laugh out loud. "You're such an interesting guy. But about the roommates, wait until I get to you. There are three people who want to rent, and"—I haven't figured out which of you is Mr. X—"And it's a hard decision , you know? You're all so... interesting."

Daniel shrugged. "No problem, I can understand. Look, I have to go to class, but maybe when will I bump into you again?"

Jacob went to class, and he sat there not listening to a word—and his notes? His notes have nothing to do with the movie, it's all about some mysterious person...

His phone vibrated. It was a text from Scott: We should start doing the second part of the interview ASAP.

He was about to reply, but didn't know what to say, so he put the phone back in his pocket.Guilt tightens in his throat at the thought that Scott might be watching him check his phone and not reply, and he almost changes his mind. But he took a deep breath, he just didn't want to reply to the message right away.He wants to focus on other things.Things that make him smile and make him happy.

For example, write a letter to Mr. X.

After class, he put the note to Mr. X in his pocket and walked to the learning center.

He had just stepped through the door when he saw Jim.

He sat in a chair with blue cushions on the carpeted side of the learning center, where people usually gather with friends to drink coffee and talk or something.

But Jim was alone, surrounded by empty chairs. With two paper coffee cups in hand, he glanced awkwardly at his watch, grimaced, and murmured something.

Jacob walked up to him without knowing it. "Hi," he said, gesturing to the chair next to him. "Can I sit?"

Jacob stared at him for a second, as if he didn't recognize him, and then—"Um, sure. Sit down, please."

Jacob suddenly felt like a fool. This person saw himself so surprised just now, as if he really struggled to remember who he was.Why did he come to talk to you?He met him only once, touring the house.Seriously, he and he didn't even count as acquaintances. "Jim, right?" he said, shaking his wrist habitually, turning the dial over. "I just saw you." And you looked a little lonely, so I decided on my own to come and sit next to you, and we both got into a really awkward conversation.

But before it got too awkward, Jim handed over a cup of coffee and leaned back in his chair. "I was waiting for a friend of mine, but he must have been delayed somewhere else. Well, let's just pretend he's out of luck."

Jacob stared at the coffee cup in his hand.

"Did you drink coffee?"

"Well, of course. But—"

"I can't drink two-two glasses again."

"what about your friends?"

"I'll buy him another one when he shows up." Jim took a sip of his coffee. "Besides, I owe you a favor."

"Where is it?"

"You lent me the T-shirt."

"Oh, all right. Nothing."

"Thanks anyway. Also, I haven't heard from you since—I guess the room is already rented?"

Jacob took a sip of his coffee too, burning his tongue. "Whoa, still hot." He looked up to see Jim staring at him.At that moment, their eyes locked on each other, and a feeling that made him want to breathe a sigh of relief hit him.But then Jim shifted his gaze to his coffee, and that feeling went away, too.

"Ah," Jacob said, trying to clear himself up, "No, that room hasn't been rented out yet, but there are several people who want to rent it, and I haven't decided which one would be the best match for me, you understand? But I I promise I will give you an answer."

"Okay, uh... I wish you the best match." Jim looked over Jacob's shoulder, probably seeing his friend, because he nodded with a smile. "That, I know it's sudden, but I have to go."

"fine."

After walking a few steps, Jim turned his head again. "But, Jacob, I hope to hear from you soon."

Mr. X,

I haven’t prayed in ages, probably never, but I did during lunch today, asking God to give me a hint.Who is my Mr. X?

Then, can you believe it?I bumped into Mister Philosophy this afternoon (literally "bumped"!).He forgave me with a Nietzsche quote and then said something about fate.I thought, anyway, for an hour after that I thought I had you, Mr. X.I'm also going to write a note to pin on the bulletin board...

But when I walked into the learning center just now, I saw Mr. Shy in the cafeteria. He's getting to know me a little bit (I can hear it in his tone), maybe because he gave me a cup of coffee?Maybe both. When I'm with him, I see him staring at me and it makes me feel like there's some kind of connection between us... for some reason, it's like he can read me...

Anyway, I know I can't post the note I wrote earlier on the bulletin board because I'm suddenly no longer sure Mr. Philosophy is you. After praying, the only person I didn't see was Mr. Hunk, which made me think maybe that was God's cue to me.Perhaps this meant that neither of those men was Mr. X.

Then I thought, what if this is all a prank? What if you weren't any of those three people, but were just pretending to hide?

Every time I think about it, I just want to dip my head in ice water to cool off. It's all so confusing.

Tell me now.

***

J,

Do you like the pictures I drew on this paper?

– your mr x

***

my Mr. X,

ah!So you're one of those three, and you're not fooling me.But my kitten clock is much cuter than your drawing.

***

J,

I am one of those three people. But whether you have been "fooled" is not sure, let's wait and see.Have you figured out who you want to be your roommate?

My drawing skills are as bad as yours.Hi, isn't this great. We have a little more in common.

hell.I just checked the time and realized I'm going to be late for class.Blame you and your notes for being so addictive.

***

Mr. X,

All three say they won't be able to move in until early next month.I've got at least another week to get my head around you--I've made up my mind, and I'll get to it before I choose!

wait and see, huh?Is this a hint that I'm going to see all of you one more time?

Hope you have a great day today!See you.

***

J,

I did have a good day today. But I probably only have a good week left now.

As for hints...don't guess. You obviously over-interpreted the phrase "wait and see" with your little thoughts.But... I agree.Yes, let's see if you can perform a little better in the next round.

May I suggest that you and your roommate candidates do things differently?Like, go out and get a pizza or something.Pizza at Fila del Fio restaurant is delicious...

By the way, let me say this first, who would have thought? You and I seem to have become friends.

***

Mr. X,

No we are not.

***

J,

Are you a little stubborn too, Jacob?

That's right, we're friends.I love to write to you, and in the same way I feel that you love to write to me.

***

Mr. X,

What makes you feel this way?

***

J,

You always write back.

***

Mr. X,

This is true.

***

J,

Don't you keep replying?Or rather, don't you enjoy writing to me as much as I feel?

***

Mr. X,

You are Mr. Philosophy.definitely is.Let me put it your way: If A) I write you back and I enjoy writing to you, then B)? The fact that I like writing to you means we are friends, then it follows that C) I am too philosophical That sucks, because what I'm trying to say is: Yes, I admit you're right. We are friends now.

***

J,

Hahaha.So good friends forever?

***

Mr. X,

Don't push yourself too far.
