The Cyanided Heart

Chapter 2: The Fugitive

"I have no idea…"

Kate sighed and said, "I knew a friend a long time ago, he may have been taken away by those German soldiers, but he is so smart, he should not do such a stupid thing..."

The two fell silent again.Kate sat in a dry tree hole, looking out at the pattering rain.

After an unknown amount of time, Amy's soft breathing came from the dark tree hole.

It turned out that she was asleep.Kate exhaled and closed her eyes.Even the sound of the rain in the war is still pure and flawless, slowly washing my soul.

Consciousness gradually sank to the bottom of the water, and Kate fell asleep.

"There are still fish that slipped through the net."

Kate opened her eyes suddenly, and it was the blond female officer standing in front of her.Her face could not be seen clearly in the fog, but she seemed to have a terrifying smile with malicious intentions.

"Amy, Amy, wake up, hurry up..." Kate moved back and shook Amy's arm vigorously. But she seemed to be dead asleep, motionless.

"As for me, it's not that I don't know the speed of your small reports. If the mission is not completed, I will be very distressed." The blond female officer pointed the gun at Kate.

With some courage, Kate rushed out from the tree hole and bit the blond officer's arm hard.

"Damn brat!"

In the confusion, a bullet hit Kate in the chest.Blood mist spread in the rain, and the blond female officer was looking at herself triumphantly, and then pointed the gun at Amy.

"Kate! Kate!..." Amy seemed to have found herself, and staggered towards this side.

this idiot...

Kate felt the darkness before her eyes, but Amy's voice bounced and bounced like a tide, lingering in her ears...

"Kate! Kate..."

Kate slowly opened her eyes, Amy was sitting next to her, and she sighed in relief when she saw herself wake up.

"Kate, you're finally awake..."

It turned out that what was just now was a dream.

"By the way, why are you sleeping here?"

Kate looked around, and it was at least two or three meters away from the tree hole just now.

"Haha... I had a strange dream." Kate scratched her head, smiled shyly, and prepared to sit up with the other hand propped up.

That hand seemed to have touched something in the grass beside her, and the cold metal sensation spread all over her body, and Kate couldn't help shivering.

"This is…"

Kate picked up the item.It was a small and exquisite metal crossbow, which lay quietly in Kate's hand, shining coldly.Next to the handle is a small drawstring bag filled with thin arrows, which is quite heavy.

"Kate... what is this?"

"It's a crossbow."

"Crossbow?" Amy shook her head in confusion.

"A magical weapon." Kate turned its handle and said, "Although we don't know its owner, we will feel more at ease with it."

Kate stood up. In the dark woods, there was an endless stream of rustling rain, and a gust of wind blew by, bringing a slight coolness to her cheeks.

"What shall we do next?" Amy stood up and asked Kate's back.

"Um…"

Kate looked at the rain-soaked ground. With the help of the moonlight, there were faint footprints on the ground—it was obviously not their footprints.

"We have no choice, let's go, follow these footprints." Kate hung the crossbow at her waist, and took Amy's hand and walked deep into the woods.

...

August 1943, Auschwitz.

"Report, Admiral Franz, we are approaching Auschwitz."

"Understood. Please inform Dr. Joseph Mengele, I have something to discuss with him."

...

Jessica Franz brushed back her blond hair and looked out of the truck window.

In the dark night, huge chimneys stand beside the Auschwitz concentration camp in the distance, where the Lenner-Monowitz concentration camp belongs to the concentration camp, which provides cruel labor for the German cement and rubber factories.

The truck sped toward Auschwitz.

Inertia caused Jessica to stagger a bit before she stood still. Looking through the window, someone was standing there. That person was the military doctor known as the "Angel of Death"—Joseph Mengele.

The air rushed into the white steam, and as the white steam dissipated, the car door in front of Jessica slowly opened.

"Long time no see, Dear Admiral Franz."

"...Welcome to Auschwitz." Mengele saluted her and said slowly with a faint smile.

...

The darkness extended endlessly to the depths of the forest, and Amy looked around cautiously. The cool wind brushed Amy's cheeks, and she couldn't help holding Kate's hand tightly.

Looking west through countless tree trunks, the former school can no longer be seen in the faint mist. … where not too long ago was still learning.

"Kate, how long are we going to go..." Amy asked in a low voice.

"Tired? Amy."

"Not tired. But, it's dark here...can you see the road?" Amy asked worriedly, shaking her head.

"Don't worry, look." Kate pointed to the small hill in front of her. "If I remember correctly, there is a road leading down the mountain nearby."

Kate remembered correctly. With the help of the faint moonlight, looking down through the sparse tree trunks, there is a silver-white cement road.

"Hold on." Kate reached out to Amy.

This hillside is not very high from the bottom, but it is surprisingly steep. Simply jumping down seems to have to bear a lot of impact.

"Amy, I count to three, you jump down, you must hold my hand tightly. One, two..." Kate seemed to have discovered something, and ordered Amy with confidence.

"…three!"

The dry branches beat Amy like a whip, and the dark blue jacket and black trousers were covered with mud, and the two fell down very quickly mixed with the dust.

In the nick of time, Kate grabbed a broken tree trunk.Amy held Kate's hand tightly.

"Are you okay?"

"Ok!"

"Let go, be careful." Kate looked around and found that the two were already close to the ground.

Patting the dirt off her body, Kate looked up to the sky. There are no layers of leaves here, and the bright moonlight shines on the concrete floor.

"here is…"

Kate looked around.I saw some huge tree trunks lying on the road on the left, with branches scattered all over the place. There are burnt black marks on the trunk, and it seems that there has been an explosion here. The road on the right winds down and stretches toward the dark front.

"It's so dark..."

Amy swallowed, and continued.

"Why don't we wait here until dawn? We've come so far... No one should catch up."

Kate didn't speak. She was very concerned about the tree trunk next to it, as if a branch had been broken off by someone.

"Kate... Isn't it normal for a branch to break?" Amy was a little puzzled.

"The broken part is fresh. It just goes to show..."

"Someone came here not long ago." Kate said with a serious face, "...and he is not very familiar with the roads here. I don't think he is a resident here. Those who meet the conditions... are probably those German soldiers."
