Chapter 42

h, Sa-mekh.

"We left Mom a present," Jim said excitedly. The cloud layer changed its shape under his fingertips, water droplets gathered and quickly dissipated. He travels through the shape of light, the speed of the wind.Snowflakes supported his weight. He grins, even though his eyes aren't really that happy, they're twinkling with resignation and loss.

"Best." Spock nodded, approvingly.

"Will she like it? Will Daddy like it?"

"definitely."

"They'll forget about us and live happily ever after with him."

"Maybe it was her. But it all ends well."

"Well, you're always right."

"Obviously."

At the end of that winter, Amanda picked up a lightly fallen leaf. It was verdant and green, as fresh as a newborn in the morning sun. It really did not belong to such a thin and desolate winter. It is full of blessings, some are crooked, some are neat, and two parallel smiling faces are forcefully drawn on the signature.

Her beloved little ones were gone, and doctors told her they had heard another faint but struggling heartbeat in her abdomen.

She covered her mouth with tears in her eyes. Sarek hugged her, the leaf was swept into the wind by the breath of spring, flew farther and farther, higher and higher, and soon disappeared.

It says:

Mom, you once said that meeting us was the most important and the best thing in your life... Dad said this is fate, if this is true, then my fate is to be by your side, even if you can’t see me, even if You cannot perceive, even if you forget. If there is any ultimate logic and immutable theorem... it is that we will meet again one day, until the end of life.

Don't worry about us.For us, the journey itself is the destination.

Different paths... will lead to the same goal in the end.

In the small world on the other side of the undetectable, spring is getting faster and faster, and every factor in the air is filled with warmth. The light was fading, and the snow outside was falling finer and lighter. They are about to have a long, undisturbed sleep, saying goodbye to everything until next winter.

"Good night, Spock."

"Good night, Jim."

"Good night, Mom and Dad."

"Jim, they can't hear you."

"Okay." He curled up in the older boy's arms, twisting his arm around him, as if trapped in a soft cloud. He yawned slowly, "Good night, Spocky."

"See you next year, Jim, sweet dreams," Spock whispers back, kissing his forehead, cheeks, eyes, then the tip of his nose, and he gives a small, sweet smile.

He closed his eyes and fell asleep in the sound of the last snow.

Finish.

43. 【Spirk】For clouds and night

Usually, nights in Riverside are quiet.

The dark crystal-coloured night sky was covered in clouds, which might have been cotton wool.Or marshmallows.Huge and fluffy clusters, they float aimlessly, holding the quiet night in their hands.

Someone's cat is snoring by the fireplace, one of them is furry, with its mouth wide open, hoo-hoo-loo, a lazy meow comes out of the chimney and floats up to the clouds.

But tonight's Riveside is lively, the orange and yellow of the jack-o'-lanterns illuminate the whole town, and every household is as lively as if Christmas is coming.

No, it's better than Christmas: it's Halloween.

Exudes the fragrance of pumpkin, the sweetness of candy, the intoxication of apple cider - Halloween.

Jim was walking on the street alone, holding a jack-o-lantern he had forgotten where to pick up, and eating while walking.

The candle inside was burning, illuminating the stones on the road ahead.

Hugging him in his arms was warm, Huang Chengcheng, and his body was also glowing.

The stuffing is mixed with honey, the flesh of the melon is sweet, and the skin of the melon is crisp.

Jim snapped a piece into his mouth, click click.

Kill three birds with one stone. He thought, the jack-o-lantern is really a good thing.

It was snowing in the sky, fine and dense silvery white, some falling straight, some slowly, they flickered under the lamp, neither cold nor painful.

He raised his face, and a piece of light swirled and landed on the tip of his nose.

He scrunched his face and it fell.

He stuck out his tongue and licked it, it was sweet.

Jim holds up the jack-o'-lantern, intending to catch some snow.Wouldn't it taste better if it was sweeter?

Children ran past him.Hee hee ha ha, in twos and threes, in groups, and some alone. They wore all kinds of clothes, and each of them held a big bag.

The bandages of the chestnut curly-haired boy were undone, and the cloak of the girl with long red hair was torn apart by a tree branch. The little freckle on the round face forgot his Zorro mask, opened his mouth, and gestured blankly.

They do not open umbrellas, are not afraid of snow, snoring with their hair, and the melted snow is moist and warm in their palms.

Jim stopped in his tracks (but didn't stop to eat his jack-o'-lanterns), and watched them from the shadow of a nearby tree.

What are they going to do?

The kids knocked on the door of the nearest house, which was covered in dust and even cobwebs, and Jim didn't think anyone was inside.

But kids don't think so.They knocked on the door persistently.

Boom, boom, boom boom.

After waiting for a long time, until Jim's jack-o-lantern was only half eaten by him, the gate of the old castle finally opened.

The old woman covered with cobweb-like wrinkles is holding a large plate, which is full of all kinds of candies, and even has a delicate shape of a small pumpkin. She faltered.

"I'm old and hard of hearing, so I'm sorry," she said.

"Trick or Treat!" the children yelled at her.shouted loudly.

"Of course it's sweets, my dears." The old woman sprinkled sweets into each child's raised pockets, her hands were shaking, but she grinned steadily.

The children ran away, but instead of entering the house, she smiled at their leaving backs.

Jim saw that her face lit up with the smile, glowing like a girl.

The kids ran away, and Jim stepped out of the shadows.

Holding a jack-o-lantern, he walked up to the old woman and learned what the children said.

"Trick or Treat!" He didn't go around, but raised the jack-o-lantern high, and the light flickered a few times.Although he is much taller than the old lady.

The deaf old woman's eyes are also blurred. She asked, "Who, who is speaking?"

Jim waved the jack-o-lantern in front of her eyes: "It's Jim."

Disappointingly, the old lady didn't see him and didn't put the candy in his jack-o-lantern.

"I'm getting old, and I always have auditory hallucinations. The children have taken the candy, it's time to go home." She shook her head and turned around, staggered into the house in frustration, and went back to being old again. She forgot to close the door.

Jim tilted his head puzzled, maybe he was too taller than the children, and her stooped body was too short to see herself.

The candle flickered and went out.

He helped the old woman close the door and found a forgotten pumpkin candy in the corner.

He knelt down to pick it up, and put the smaller pumpkin inside the larger one.

Jim snapped his fingers, and the candle lit up again.

Brighter than ever.

~~

Jim walked to another house and put a jack-o'-lantern on top of his head.

The door of this house is also clean, and the light is bright. He knocked on the door and called, "Trick or Treat!"

After a while, a man with a fierce face opened the door.

The man scans (or looks through) Jim suspiciously, but doesn't respond politely. The man came out again, looked left and right, finally put away his suspicious gaze, and stepped back.

"Who is it, dear?" came the voice from the room.

"No one," the man said, "Danny, sit still, the cake will be ready later."

But Danny didn't listen to him, instead he groped for a stick, poked here and there, stood up, and moved slowly towards the door.

He can't see it. Jim thought, staring into those blue crystal eyes.

The ferocious man suddenly became very gentle, walked quickly, and took Danny's empty hand.

Danny smiled at him, and Jim saw the brilliance on the old woman's face just now in the faces of the two of them.

The man led Danny to the door, and the two of them stood in front of Jim, but neither of them could see him.

"Look, I said no one."

"Someone!" Jim protested.Shaking his head, holding the jack-o-lantern made him feel heavy.

The man said, "Go back and stay, it's cold outside."

Danny said, "Your fireplace is too hot, I'm warm enough."

The man said: "Then you can't stand here either. There is snow in the wind."

Danny said: "Snow is very sweet."

The man said: "Go back. Shall I hug you?"

Danny whispered, oops. The face is a little red.

But he didn't refuse, so he took the wooden stick in his hand, and the menacing man picked him up.

They entered the house and the man closed the door with his foot.

A second before closing the door, Jim heard the blue-eyed Danny say, I saw a light outside the door.

There is light everywhere. The man replied.

Danny argued: "The light that is as high as your head is still turning."

The man comforted: "Well, if you think so."

Jim shook his head again, maybe Danny saw his jack-o-lantern.

But he didn't see him.

Jim decided to try his luck at another one.before leaving
