She returned Ellie's call first.

Ellie's cell phone was probably not with her, so she got connected after calling twice.

"Dolly!? Where have you been?" Ellie panted slightly, the background sound on the other end of the phone was very noisy, and the sound of Gadden's high-heeled shoes thumping and loud shouting mixed together.
