Master Yuan, start!

This is a rare opportunity. For the first time in nearly 9 years since the Qing Dynasty seized power, a social movement has been launched with the participation of people from all over the country, regardless of region.
When Yuan Xiangcheng learned the news, he quickly took it seriously.
In his view, being able to ignite the political enthusiasm that has been dormant in the hearts of the Chinese people for hundreds of years is more important than the gains and losses of a city or a pond.
We must seize this opportunity to allow the influence of the anti-Manchu and anti-Russian movement to continue to spread, not only inland in terms of space, but also downward in terms of class.
...
"Anti-Manchu and anti-Russia, anti-Manchu and anti-Russia"
On a ship sailing from North Korea to Tianjin before the Tumen River War.
Under the gaze of the Red Confucian Society, Yuan Xiangcheng paced back and forth in the cabin, thinking about how to expand the movement.
Zhang Jian was the first to raise the question: "Weiting, for inland areas that have never had much contact with foreigners, anti-Manchu slogans are fine, but anti-Russia slogans are a bit difficult to adapt to."
"Then let's focus on the anti-Manchu movement!" Yan Fu put down his teacup, adjusted his iconic glasses, and spoke.
"Anti-Manchu?" Xu Shichang frowned and asked, "Are you still distributing those pamphlets?"
"Of course we should publish it. Which Han Chinese would not be furious after reading these pamphlets about the Manchu massacre in Jiangnan and want to kill a few Tartars with his own hands?" Yan Fu said, staring into Xu Shichang's eyes.
Xu Shichang lamented, “The people of Jiangnan were able to follow the students and take to the streets to stand up against the Manchus because the Three Massacres of Jiading and the Ten Days of Yangzhou took place there.

Moreover, decades ago, when the Qing officials and soldiers suppressed the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, they owed a lot of blood debts in Jiangnan, which aroused them.
In Henan and inland areas, it can only inspire some scholars to march, but how can we get ordinary people to participate?
What several people were arguing about was how to mobilize the inland masses.
In the coastal areas, the two things of anti-Manchu and anti-Russian can be done at the same time.
Needless to say, the anti-Manchu movement was widespread. In the Jiangnan region, some obscene temples dedicated to Yan Yingyuan and Shi Kefa were still preserved in the late Qing Dynasty.
Even 270 years later, the people of Jiangnan have never forgotten the history of their ancestors' bloody struggle.
In addition, there is no need to say much about the anti-Russian struggle in the vast southeastern coastal areas.
Even though the foreigners that ordinary people come into contact with most in their daily lives are from Britain and France.
But because they were all white-skinned, high-nosed "foreigners", the people's hatred towards Russia ignited after the migration and they were able to join the anti-Manchu and anti-Russian movement.
But in the inland areas, there are not many foreigners, so how can the people hate Russia?
The focus can only be on the anti-mantou.
However, using the Manchu massacre as the main entry point to promote national revolution and revenge will not cause much waves in the inland areas.
Historically, Henan surrendered relatively quickly in the late Ming Dynasty, thus avoiding a massacre.
First they welcomed King Chuang and cooked King Fu, then they surrendered the Eight Banners and drove out the Ming army. It can be said that they hated the Zhu family more than the Qing Dynasty, but since there was no major bloodshed, they did not have much hatred towards the Manchus.
From a realistic perspective, at the end of the 19th century during the Qing Dynasty, the cultural level of the people in inland areas was still far behind that of the coastal areas.
In other words, at present, we cannot expect ordinary people in inland areas to awaken their national consciousness.

The only thing that can be mobilized is the national consciousness of educated people who can read and write.
However, in the anti-Manchu movement, Yuan Shikai wanted the participation of the entire nation, not just the bourgeoisie.
If it were the same as in the original time and space, officials would pick up a few government tiles to represent revolution, while the vast majority of poor farmers would not participate.
Then this revolution to overthrow the Qing Dynasty would turn into a petty-bourgeois carnival.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China in the future, the domestic feudal forces that Yuan Shikai faced would be as stubborn as those of the Republic of China after the Xinhai Revolution.
The peasant class should be involved, and the peasant class must be involved!
"Jidao, what do you think about the broken braid?"
Yuan Xiangcheng glanced at the tea on the table that was spilling as the boat moved.
He did not rush to explain why he mentioned "land grabbing", but instead talked about the incident of breaking the braid.
In fact, before Guangxu was assassinated, the custom of cutting off braids was already very strong in Korea.
Whether it was the ordinary people from the four provinces who moved to Korea, or the scholars from all over the country who rushed to Korea, they all felt that the braid was a hindrance.
Most of the two types of people choose to cut off their braids.
However, the students just cut their hair short and walked on the streets without any hesitation.
Ordinary people, forced by the Qing Dynasty's long-standing rules, would more or less choose to cover up a little and attach the cut-off false braids to their backs.
He usually keeps it at home or when working, and only wears it when he meets government officials.
There were also some farmers who, whether out of cowardice or influenced by their own beliefs, refused to cut off their braids.
"Breaking the braid caused quite a stir among the young scholars, but for the old farmers in the countryside, it was not even a topic of discussion."
At this point, Yan Fu sighed and said, "People still think that the queue is passed down from their ancestors and are unwilling to cut it off!"
Hearing this, Yuan Xiangcheng nodded slightly and gave Yan Fu an imperceptible admiration.
Seeing this phenomenon, it seems that Yan Fu had conducted field research among the people.
As the propaganda minister of the Red Confucian Society, he is quite competent.

Not to mention 1896 in this time and space, even 15 years later, after the 1911 Xinhai Revolution in the original time and space, a large number of people were unwilling to cut off their braids.
The revolutionaries were forced to go out on the streets to arrest people and cut off their braids, and were ridiculed by the old and young.
"If cutting off the queues doesn't arouse the common people's anti-Manchu sentiment, then we can only try to find another way." Thinking of this, Yuan Xiangcheng suddenly remembered the land issue that has always been the most important concern of farmers.
He looked at Yan Fu and asked, "A few words from Yan Fu, have you ever heard of the word enclosure?"
"Enclosure?" Yan Fu paused for a moment, then pondered, "Chief Instructor, are you talking about horse racing and enclosure, one of the six major vices of the early Qing Dynasty?"
"That's exactly it!"
The idiom "racing horse racing and grabbing land" is often used in later generations to describe the way companies and enterprises occupy the market and achieve a certain market share through investment, mergers and other behaviors in the early stages of market development.
Companies such as Meituan and Ele.me, Didi and Kuaidi have all issued massive amounts of coupons in order to expand their market share.
Before the Qing Dynasty, there was no such idiom as "racing horse and enclosing land".
The coinage of the phrase "horse racing and land grabbing" was thanks to Dorgon, a hero who helped the Qing Dynasty enter the Central Plains.
After the Manchus entered the Pass, in addition to issuing the infamous "shaved head and changed clothes" order, Dorgon also implemented five other evil policies.
They are enclosure, surrender, house occupation, escape and confinement.
Among these, land enclosure is the most evil policy that infringes upon the rights and interests of ordinary people.
After the Eight Banners captured a city, they would gallop around it, and wherever their horses' hooves touched, all the land would become Manchu property. This was called "horse racing and land grabbing."
Anyone who dares to refuse to sell the enclosed land without paying the capital or looking at the title deed will be killed on the spot.
Relying on this evil policy, the Manchus occupied large amounts of farmland.
As for the original houses on the farmland, they were naturally occupied by the Eight Banners, which was called "occupying houses".
After losing their land and houses, the people naturally became refugees. According to the "surrender law", these refugees were sent to the homes of the Eight Banners masters and turned into slaves.
Because the Eight Banners repeatedly abused slaves and a large number of slaves fled, Dorgon promulgated the "Fugitive Law".
It was stipulated that any escaped slave would be killed without mercy, his property would be confiscated, and the slave's neighbors and officials would also be punished.
At the same time, in order to prevent a large number of Han slaves from escaping to uninhabited areas outside the Great Wall.
The Qing Dynasty also implemented the "Forbidden Border Order", built a willow border, strictly controlled the population outside the border, and prohibited Han people from entering the Manchus' birthplace to cultivate.
They shaved their heads and changed their clothes, pulling out, breaking, and crushing the spiritual backbone of the Han people from top to bottom.
Enclosure, forced labor, house occupation, escape, and border control deprived the Han people of their survival resources at a physical level.
The six evil policies, linked one to another, allowed the Qing Dynasty to firmly establish its rule in the north and laid a solid economic foundation for its conquest of the Southern Ming.
Therefore, if you want to arouse the hatred of ordinary people towards the Qing Dynasty, the best way is to start with the first of the six evil policies, land enclosure.
"Broken braids, broken braids. Some people don't understand the truth. No matter how much you explain, they won't listen." Yuan Xiangcheng looked at everyone with a sharp gaze:
"What they value is land, so let's give them land. As long as they fight against the Manchus, we'll give them land!"
Divide the land? Xu Shichang frowned again.
There is no extra land to be distributed to ordinary people now. The land in the Jianghuai area can be distributed thanks to the bad debts of the Hunan Army and the Taiping Army.
This is not the case in other places.
Before anyone else could say anything, Yan Fu asked, "Chief Instructor, where can we find land?"
"Of course I ask the Manchus for it!" Yuan Xiangcheng picked up the teacup in his hand, smiled, and said:
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
The Manchus were able to carve out vast tracts of Han Chinese farmland, so now, let the Han Chinese people take their sleds and plow out their ancestral lands!"
"We're starting with a pilot program in Henan, with 5 mu per person. If you want one, just carry your hoe and go get it!"
The average per capita arable land in the Qing Dynasty was only 3 mu, and in Henan, where the population is dense and the land is limited, this figure would be even lower.
In other words, as long as these farmers dare to pick up their hoes and revolt, the value of the land under their names can be doubled at least.
After a pause, Yuan Xiangcheng continued, "Tell them that the National Revolutionary Army is their backer, and that Yuan Xiangcheng, a Henan native, is their backer."
In Yuan Xiangcheng's mind, even though the peasant class could not make its own voice heard in this anti-Manchu revolution due to various limitations, it should still enjoy the fruits of the revolution.
Moreover, this achievement cannot be given as charity, but should be earned through their own hands as much as possible.
Only in this way can a spark of fire be left in the inland areas of China where the feudal landlords are powerful.
In the future, in order to protect their "revolutionary achievements" from infringement by landlords, these peasant classes will naturally turn to the Red Confucian Society and the National Revolutionary Army.

By then, the liquidation of the landlord class can be put on the agenda.
What percentage of the land occupied by the Manchus belonged to the Chinese landlord class?
Just single digits.
