The Daqingshan Detachment was developed based on these troops.

Suiyuan was primarily hilly and grassland, where cavalry was most effective. Therefore, after the Daqingshan Detachment entered Suiyuan, it gradually transformed its infantry units into cavalry units. This later became the Daqingshan Cavalry Detachment, also known as the 120th Division Cavalry Detachment.

Currently, the Daqingshan Cavalry Detachment has five cavalry regiments under its jurisdiction.

The total number of people is more than 3000.

The strength in this area is still quite strong. Of course, their ability to achieve such development is also related to the dominance of the Eighth Column in Chahar. The strength of the Eighth Column attracted the main force of the Mongolian Army.

Suiyuan was originally a key area for the Mongolian Army to mop up its forces, but because the Eighth Column tied down the main force of the Mongolian Army, it gave the Daqingshan Detachment an opportunity to develop greatly. Historically, when the Jinsui Military Region established the Saibei Military Sub-district, the cavalry detachment under it had only three regiments, about 1700 people. Moreover, at this time, it was facing a mopping-up operation by the Japanese 26th Division and 1943 to puppet troops. The final result was that the Saibei Military Sub-district failed in its counter-mopping-up operation, and the main force had to evacuate the original base of the Daqingshan Detachment. It was not until the end of that the main force gradually returned to its original base.

But the situation is much better now.

The Japanese army could no longer send so many troops to mop up the Daqingshan Detachment, so the Daqingshan Detachment was currently mainly fighting against the puppet army. In addition to the cavalry detachment, the Saibei Military Sub-district also had two infantry regiments under its jurisdiction.

In total, the Daqingshan Detachment currently has only about 5000 people.

Of course, since this is a military sub-district, there are also many local troops.

However, although they are both military sub-districts, their strength cannot be compared with the Eighth Column.

The difference in military strength is several times.

After all, the Daqingshan Detachment was located in a poor and sparsely populated area. If they wanted to expand their forces on a large scale, they would lack both supplies and manpower. It was simply impossible to develop too many troops. A look at the history of the Northwest Field Army's development shows that the Northwest region couldn't support too many troops.

Upon hearing that Saibei Military Sub-district Commander Yao Zhe was approaching, Wang Qiuyun, Wei Hongjun, and Xu Luomin all came to greet him. After all, Yao Zhe was currently the commander of the Saibei Military Sub-district, giving him equal status with the 11th and 12th Military Sub-districts. Furthermore, the th Column's expansion into Suiyuan would require cooperation and joint operations with the Saibei Military Sub-district.

If you treat someone coldly when you first meet them, how can you expect to cooperate with them in the future?

Despite the Saibei Military Sub-district's lack of strength, Yao Zhe was a member of the Yilao Red Army who had participated in the Pingjiang Uprising. Before the Long March, he had served as a regimental commander and divisional chief of staff, and at one point headed the National Security Bureau's Political Security Corps, responsible for the security of the central leadership.

After the reorganization of the Eighth Route Army, he served as Chief of Staff of the 120th Brigade of the 358th Division.

So although everyone came from the Central Red Army, Wang Qiuyun, Wei Hongjun and others had always been in the First Corps, and Yao Zhe had always been in the Third Corps, so they did not know each other.

Now that Yao Zhe, the commander of the Saibei Military Sub-district, has come to Jining in person, the leaders of the 8th Column cannot neglect him.

"Comrade Wang Qiuyun, Comrade Wei Hongjun, I'm well aware of your names. You fought well in Chahar, greatly reducing the pressure on us in Suiyuan."

"Commander Yao, you're too polite. Commander Yao, please come this way."

After connecting the two bases, both sides will be able to communicate at any time.

The Daqingshan detachment is currently mainly active in Wuchuan, in the northern part of Guisui, more than 300 miles from Jining. This may seem far, but in Suiyuan, it is not far at all.

"Comrade Wang Qiuyun, Comrade Wei Hongjun, the headquarters has decided to transfer your cavalry regiment to our Daqingshan Detachment. I would like to thank you for your support.

Of course there was a reason why Yao Zhe came here in person.

After taking Jining and opening up the connection between the two bases, the Eighth Route Army Headquarters requested the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Military Region to support the development of the Shanxi-Suiyuan Military Region. The Shanxi-Suiyuan Military Region included the northwest, southwest, and Suiyuan areas of Shanxi, all of which were sparsely populated and very poor.

When the 120th Division went to Yizhong, in addition to helping the Jizhong troops improve their combat effectiveness through training, another reason was to develop the military within the Jizhong Military Region. The results were quite positive. Under the training of the 120th Division, the combat effectiveness of many units in the Jizhong Military Region increased significantly. Furthermore, the 120th Division, after only six months in the Yizhong Military Region, took over ten thousand troops with them upon their departure. Furthermore, the 120th Division also sent troops to southern Hebei to recruit soldiers.

But whether it is Hebei Central or Hebei Southern, it is not the base of the 120th Division after all, and it is impossible for you to recruit soldiers every day.

Therefore, of the three divisions of the Eighth Route Army, the 120th Division was the slowest to develop and had the smallest number of troops. Survival conditions in the Saibei Military Sub-district were particularly dire. Besides the large number of Japanese and puppet troops, the Nationalist Army and the Eighth Route Army in this area frequently engaged in clashes.

Previously, relations between Fu Zuoyi's forces and the Eighth Route Army were relatively good, but after being rebuked by Chongqing and Yan Xishan, relations cooled. In the Suiyuan region, in addition to Fu Zuoyi's forces, there were also some Jinsui Army units operating independently of Fu Zuoyi's system. While these units were nominally under Fu Zuoyi's command, they usually followed Yan Xishan's orders and engaged in numerous battles with the Eighth Route Army.

What Suiyuan lacks the least is bandits.

There are real bandits everywhere.

This directly affected the development of the 120th Division in Suiyuan. So after the capture of Jining and the opening of the bases of both sides, the Eighth Route Army Headquarters believed that the powerful and wealthy Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region should help the development of the 120th Division.

The one chosen was the Saibei Military Sub-district of the 120th Division.

Finally, the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region decided to allocate a cavalry regiment from the 8th Column to the Daqingshan Detachment. After consultation with Wang Qiuyun and Wei Hongjun, they decided to allocate the cavalry regiment of the Chabei Detachment to the Daqingshan Detachment.

Currently, the Chabei Detachment has two cavalry regiments: one is the cavalry regiment developed in the early years of the Chabei Detachment, and the other is a complete Mongolian cavalry regiment.

The Chabei Detachment retained the Mongolian Cavalry Regiment and allocated the other cavalry regiment to the Saibei Military Sub-district.

The Chabei Detachment's cavalry regiment, with approximately 900 men and over 700 war horses, was more powerful than any cavalry regiment currently under the Saibei Military Sub-district.

That’s why Yao Zhe came to express his gratitude in person.

With this cavalry regiment, the Daqingshan Detachment now has 6 cavalry regiments under its jurisdiction, with a cavalry force of 4000 people. A cavalry force of this size is already a very powerful force in the Suiyuan area.

Wei Hongjun said, "Commander Yao, you are too polite. We are all members of the Eighth Route Army and should help each other."

"Thank you too."

"Commander Yao, you've arrived just in time. The military district previously told us that once we get in touch with you, we'll dispatch a batch of weapons and ammunition to the Daqingshan Detachment.

"Weapons and ammunition?"

"We captured Zhangjiakou a few months ago. We happened to have seized a lot of weapons and ammunition. The military district asked us to prepare a batch of weapons and ammunition and hand it over to you.

"Can I go take a look?"

"this way please."

The Eighth Column made a fortune by capturing Zhangjiakou, and this was known to the entire Eighth Route Army system.

Because large quantities of supplies were delivered to various bases.

When the First and Third Divisions of the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei region broke through the Japanese blockade, they wiped out 5,000 Japanese and puppet troops in one night, which shocked the entire Eighth Route Army system. At that time, those troops in the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei region used a large number of artillery.

Including this time when the 8th Column captured Jining, everyone knew that there was a rumbling sound of artillery outside the city of Jining at that time.

Yao Zhe was of course very excited to hear that the Eighth Column was going to transfer a batch of weapons and ammunition to them. In recent years, the Daqingshan Detachment had been surrounded and suppressed by the Japanese army, puppet troops, puppet police, and the Shanxi-Suiyuan Army, and the living conditions were very poor.

So the weapons and equipment in their hands are not very good.

Even if some heavy weapons were occasionally seized, they were all lost under their encirclement and suppression.

Wang Qiuyun and Wei Hongjun brought Yao Zhe to the warehouse. Inside, Yao Zhe's eyes lit up at the sight of the warehouse filled with weapons and ammunition. He couldn't help but ask, "What's in here?"

"Commander Yao, the weapons and ammunition transferred to the Daqingshan Detachment this time are mainly Hanyang rifles. They were all captured from Japanese military warehouses and should be weapons captured by the Japanese from the Nationalist Army. There are 1500 Hanyang rifles, 500 Type 10 rifles, 50 heavy machine guns, 50 light machine guns, and 20 grenade launchers. In addition, there are 7 rounds of rifle ammunition, 1200 rounds of light and heavy machine gun ammunition, and rounds of grenade launcher shells."

Yao Zhe was really excited when he heard about so many weapons and ammunition.

The biggest difficulty facing the Daqingshan Detachment at present is the lack of bullets and heavy firepower. The 10 heavy machine guns, 50 light machine guns, and 50 grenade launchers given to them instantly increased the firepower of the Daqingshan Detachment by several levels.

In the future, if you encounter ordinary Japanese troops, you won’t have to fight so hard.

Wei Hongjun continued, "Commander Yao, these Hanyang-made rifles aren't the latest, but they're not outdated either. I hope you don't mind."

"I can't express my gratitude enough, so how can I say no? Hahaha, with these weapons and ammunition, we don't have to worry about the puppet troops in Guisui anymore.

Yao Zhe laughed out loud.

So excited.

The Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region provided a great help this time.

Not only was it a cavalry regiment, but they also brought so many weapons and ammunition.

These weapons and ammunition alone can not only improve the current weapons and equipment of the Daqingshan Detachment, but also expand it into a regiment.

By then, the Daqingshan Detachment will be able to have a main force of about 8000 people, and no longer have to worry about the puppet troops in the Guisui area.

"Comrade Wang Qiuyun, Comrade Wei Hongjun, I have something I want to discuss with you."

"Commander Yao, please speak."

"Have you ever thought about conquering Guisui? If Zhangjiakou is the most important city in Chahar, then Guisui is the most important city in Suiyuan. If we conquer Guisui, then our 120th Division's base in Suiyuan will be able to connect with the bases in northwest and southwest Shanxi.

"Commander Yao, it would be a good thing if we could capture Guisui. But there are many things to do to capture Guisui. There are many different forces in Suiyuan now, and we need to distance ourselves from them before we can take action.

Wei Hongjun certainly hopes to capture Guisui.

If Guisui were captured, the entire situation in North China would change. A very safe route would be created from Yan'an to Jidong and Rehe. But as Yao Zhe had said, Guisui was the provincial capital of Suiyuan and its most important city.

It's not that easy to solve.

There are all kinds of chaotic forces around Guisui.

"So I came here this time just to discuss this with you."

Chapter 475: Suiyuan Strategy

Yao Zhe came to the command center set up by Wang Qiuyun in Jining.

He took out a map of the Guisui area. This was a map Yao Zhe had made specifically for cooperation with the Eighth Column.

Yao Zhe spread the map in front of everyone and said, "Currently, the Suiyuan region is in great chaos, with various forces intertwined. Let's talk about our Saibei Military Sub-district. In addition to the cavalry detachment, we have two infantry regiments, but both are core regiments of around a thousand men. In addition to these units, the Saibei Military Sub-district also has many small anti-Japanese bases around Guisui. Each base has our guerrillas and local forces. In addition to the Suizhong base in the Guisui area, we also have the Suixi and Suinan bases. In total, we currently have approximately 8600 main forces in the Suiyuan region, and about 4000 local forces. This time, you allocated us a cavalry regiment and provided us with so much weapons and ammunition. Our main force in Suiyuan can be expanded to over 10000 men."

"Then there were the Japanese and puppet troops. In Baotou, nearly 400 miles from Guisui, the Japanese 4000th Independent Mixed Brigade had about 1500 men. Furthermore, after the th Independent Mixed Brigade was stationed in Baotou, they recruited Japanese expatriates from all over Suiyuan and armed them. This group was quite large, numbering over . Besides the Japanese troops, the largest force in Suiyuan was the puppet army. In the past, our primary targets in Suiyuan were the puppet army.

"Previously, the puppet army in Suiyuan was primarily composed of the Puppet Mongolian Army, particularly the Puppet Mongolian Cavalry. However, these Puppet Mongolian Cavalry were nearly annihilated by Fu Zuoyi's forces and our Daqingshan Detachment, and most of their units were disbanded. Currently, the Puppet Mongolian Army consists of only one cavalry division, two infantry divisions, and one pacification garrison, with three group armies under its command. Of course, the Puppet Mongolian Army may appear large, but in reality, these units combined only have around 6,000 men. Furthermore, their combat effectiveness is relatively weak."

"In addition to the puppet Mongolian army, there is also the puppet Xingya Alliance Army with 6 divisions, about 4000 people. The puppet East Asia Alliance National Salvation Army has 4 divisions, 3 of which are former Fu Zuoyi's surrendered troops, about 2000 people, basically all cavalry units. The puppet Suimeng Coalition Army has 3 divisions under its command, two of which are surrendered troops from the Eighth War Zone, about 4500 people."

"In addition, the Japanese army has a large number of traitorous armed forces such as security groups, self-defense groups, and guard groups throughout Suiyuan, numbering about 7000. They are stationed in various places to maintain local law and order."

Wang Qiuyun and Wei Hongjun were both helpless.

There were too many traitors, and too many traitor armed forces. For example, the troops of the First and Third Divisions of the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region, as well as the Central Hebei Military Region, were aggressively expanding their bases in Hebei, primarily targeting those traitor armed forces.

In just a few months, the Jin-Cha-Ji troops wiped out more than 60000 of these traitorous armed forces in Hebei, as well as the North China Security Army and other puppet troops. The Japanese puppet troops were short of troops in the local areas they controlled, so they formed large-scale local traitorous armed forces such as the so-called security corps, self-defense corps, and security police corps.

They are relied upon to maintain local law and order.

In fact, these armed forces are essentially pseudo-police.

But that's how many people there are.

Suiyuan was a poor place. But look at these puppet troops and Hanhao armed forces, they totaled nearly 25000 people. That's six times the number of regular Japanese troops. That's how the TV drama said, "For every Japanese soldiers, there are puppet troops."

"Of course, if the enemy were solely the Japanese and puppet troops, it would be easy to deal with. However, besides the Japanese and puppet troops, there are three other armed forces operating in the Suiyuan region. One is the familiar Fu Zuoyi force based in the Wuyuan area. Fu Zuoyi's force currently comprises the 35th Army, the Provisional 3rd Army, the 4th Cavalry Army, and a variety of other units under Fu Zuoyi's command, totaling approximately to men. Furthermore, he receives material support from Yan Xishan, making him the most powerful force in the Suiyuan region.

"The second armed force is General Ma Zhanshan's Northeastern Advancing Army, currently stationed in northwest Shanxi. This force is small in number, but they fight bravely and with a strong will. Previously, when Fu Zuoyi's troops attacked Baotou and Jining, General Ma Zhanshan's Northeastern Advancing Army sent troops to participate. They performed quite well at the time.

"The third armed force is the Suiyuan People's Self-Defense Army, active in Suiyuan. In its early years, the Suiyuan People's Self-Defense Army was originally intended to form the Eighth Route Army, but ultimately formed the Sixth Route Army. These six armies are currently basically under the command of Fu Zuoyi, but they mainly obey the orders of Yan Xishan. Therefore, although this unit is affiliated with Fu Zuoyi's army, it is also a semi-independent unit."

"Of these three armed forces, General Ma Zhanshan's Northeastern Advancing Army is not in Suiyuan, but in the northwest of Shanxi. His troops will only enter Suiyuan when needed. Moreover, General Ma Zhanshan has a good relationship with us. Currently, there are many members of our party working within General Ma Zhanshan's Northeastern Advancing Army. They are even operating in an open capacity within the army. Therefore, there is not much danger to us."

"Fu Zuoyi's army, formerly known as the Seven and a Half Route Army, had a relatively good relationship with us. We previously cooperated in Suiyuan operations, and the results were quite good. However, since the Fifth Plenary Session of the Fifth Central Committee of the Kuomintang, Chongqing has become increasingly hostile to us, and our relationship with Fu Zuoyi's army has gradually reached a freezing point. Although there has been no direct fighting between the two sides, both sides have begun to be wary of each other. In particular, some of the bandit forces reorganized by Fu Zuoyi have frequently clashed with us. However, the main force of Fu Zuoyi's army has not yet had any military conflict with us. But we cannot let our guard down."

"Finally, there's the Suiyuan People's Self-Defense Army. They've basically been reorganized into Fu Zuoyi's forces, but their relationship with us is very strained. Although we initially cooperated, we've clashed several times. For example, the former Fourth and Fifth Route Armies of the Self-Defense Army have been reorganized into the Fourth Guerrilla Division and the Second Advance Column of Fu Zuoyi's forces. These two units frequently attacked our base areas and killed our cadres. However, we haven't had any serious clashes with the Fifth Guerrilla Division, reorganized from the former Eighth Route Army. While the Suiyuan People's Self-Defense Army is small in number, they're primarily cavalry units with considerable combat effectiveness. They pose a significant threat to us."

The situation in Suiyuan area is really complicated.

The Nationalist Army alone was divided into many different groups. Furthermore, different groups had different ideas, different leaders, and different approaches. Some were friendly with the Eighth Route Army, while others were ambiguous, and still others were constantly at odds with the Eighth Route Army.

There are different forces behind these troops.
