The 11th Regiment and the st Division have a deep connection.

It was the main force of the First Division in the early years, and is currently the most powerful of the Ji-Re-Liaoning Advance Army. When the Ji-Re-Liaoning Advance Army was reorganized, the 11th Regiment was the largest and strongest, with over 31 men. It also contained many veteran Red Army soldiers, including several Red Army companies. The st Regiment, which participated in the Jidong Uprising, also had around men after reorganization.

The last one is the 12th Regiment.

This is a unit from the 120th Division. When they first arrived, they had less than a thousand men. However, after a few days of development, they now have nearly 2000 men. Speaking of combat effectiveness, this unit from the 120th Division is much stronger than the 31st Regiment.

The current situation is that the 11th Regiment has entered Rehe to develop the Rehe base area. The 12th and 31st Regiments have entered eastern Hebei to join the Eighth Route Army troops there. The timing is very good for the Hebei-Rehe-Liaoning Advance Army to enter Rehe and eastern Hebei.

It was at this time that the North China Front Army was withdrawing mobile forces to sweep the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Military Region, leaving the eastern Hebei and Rehe regions depleted of manpower. The 11th Regiment was the core unit of the Pingxi Detachment, led by Deng Guo, the political commissar of the first division.

After Deng Guo led the 11th Regiment into Rehe, he accurately saw the current situation of Rehe's lack of troops.

So he directly divided the 11th Regiment into several small teams. Most of them were company-based units and entered Rehe to develop bases. In just six months, these troops scattered throughout Rehe had developed many bases. The main force of the 11th Regiment headed directly for Chengde.

“Are you in touch?”

"There was some contact, but not much. Just occasionally, before a battle, we would brief each other on the situation and exchange intelligence.

Xiahou Wen nodded.

Xia Houwen was from the Pingxi Detachment, which was actually the 11th Regiment. He was very familiar with the leadership of the 11th Regiment. Then he turned around and looked at Feng Mulin and said, "Commander Feng, what is the current situation of your Pingbei Detachment?"

Chapter 277 Chabei Detachment

"Our Chabei detachment is small-scale and cannot compare to the booming development of the Chadong detachment."

Feng Mulin spoke very modestly.

But this is definitely what Feng Mulin thought in his mind.

Although they are all detachments, the status of each detachment is different.

Among the five detachments of the Eighth Column, the Chanan Detachment held the highest status. Its commander, Zhang Zihua, was also the deputy commander of the Eighth Column. Furthermore, the Chanan Detachment had the strongest combat effectiveness.

Next are the Pingbei Detachment and the Chadong Detachment, and then the Chaxi Detachment. The Chabei Detachment has the lowest status.

The gap between the Chabei and Chadong detachments was stark. Feng Mulin, the commander of the Chadong detachment, was far inferior to Zhang Dahu and Xia Houwen in rank. The strength of their troops was also vastly different.

The Chadong Detachment even has a main force regiment under its command.

Many people hadn't imagined that the Chadong Detachment could grow to its current size. After all, when Xiahou Wen first arrived to establish the Longyanchi base, he was practically alone, with only one company under his command.

The results of it?

In a short period of time, a new third regiment of more than a thousand people was formed.

Then they annihilated the Sixth Division of the Puppet Mongolian Cavalry, and then established a pillar here. Finally, they instigated Wu Shi to rebel, broke the Japanese mopping-up operation, and turned around to annihilate a reinforced Japanese squadron.

The New Third Regiment was obviously the last to be established, but it eventually surpassed the others and was given the designation of the 26th Regiment.

At the same time, the New 1st Regiment joined the Chadong Detachment, which in turn developed a cavalry regiment and a special forces regiment. If Wang Qiuyun and Wei Hongjun came to Sheng County and created the miracle unit of the Eighth Column,

Then Xiahou Wen came to the Longyanchi base alone and also built a powerful Chadong detachment.

Although the Chadong Detachment initially developed independently, it eventually gained support from the Column. The New 1st Regiment was incorporated into the Chadong Detachment, and Kangshui's Special Forces Regiment was trained within the Column, with considerable support from local cadres.

After the Iron Blood Anti-Japanese Team was incorporated into the Eighth Column, two of its squadrons were directly merged into the Chadong Detachment. The captain and political commissar of the Iron Blood Anti-Japanese Team also became cadres of the Chadong Detachment.

In comparison, the Chabei Detachment is a real orphan.

From the moment we established the Zhangchonggu base, we were essentially isolated and developing our forces on our own. This solo development had its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages were obvious: no one from above was watching over us, and we were far away from the emperor, allowing us to develop as we pleased. However, there were also many disadvantages. For one thing, without the support of the main force, survival behind enemy lines would be much more difficult.

Of course there is some support for the column, but it is not much.

The first was when a company from the 21th Battalion was merged into the Chabei Detachment, and the second was when a company from the st Regiment was sent to the Chabei Detachment. Then some local cadres were sent to provide support. But overall, the support was still minimal.

The Chabei Detachment developed almost independently.

Although the Japanese troops in Chabei were few in number, most of them were just Japanese garrisons. Moreover, the garrisons were mainly used to defend the county seat, and the military strength of a county was limited. The enemies in Chabei were mainly the puppet Mongolian government's puppet security forces and police, as well as some traitorous armed forces.

However, the Chabei area had been under the control of the Japanese army for a long time, and it was not easy to develop a base there.

Fortunately, Feng Mulin is a master of guerrilla warfare.

In the early years, even in the harsh environment of Shaanxi, he persisted in guerrilla warfare.

"Commander Feng, you're too polite. Commander Feng's troops are elusive in Chabei, and the Japanese and puppet troops are terrified. We can hear your name in Longguan and Chifeng.

Feng Mulin had indeed never fought any large-scale battles in Chabei.

Compared with the Chadong Detachment's early years of annihilating a cavalry division of the puppet Mongolian army, and later annihilating a reinforced squadron of the Japanese army and a regiment of the puppet Manchukuo, during the previous 8th Column's anti-mopping-up operation, the Chadong Detachment even carried out a raid on the Japanese bunkers on the Pingsui Road.

They are all big moves.

Outstanding military achievements.

But this does not mean that Feng Mulin is not famous in Chabei and Chadong areas.

On the contrary, Feng Mulin is very famous in Chabei.

His guerrilla warfare was a mastery of technique, his troops were elusive and could be deployed at will. Normally, his troops were dispersed, and when needed, no one knew how to assemble them, but they were capable of ambushes.

Of course, Feng Mulin did not fight head-on battles, but instead ambushed and attacked people.

The Japanese and puppet troops were most afraid of Feng Mulin because they could not track him. They could not guess whose troops Feng Mulin would ambush next or where he would attack.

"Not as good as them, not as good as them. Our Chabei Detachment has developed to the point where, in addition to the independent battalion and cavalry battalion directly under the detachment, it has only five battalions under its jurisdiction. Moreover, one of our battalions cannot compare with the Chadong Detachment. Our battalion has only three infantry companies, with 5 people in one infantry company and 581 people in one battalion. Moreover, the troops lack heavy weapons, and the best weapons are light machine guns. The troops are organized into battalions, with Chongli as the center, and have developed bases in Zhangbei and Guyuan. Since the troops opened up the Chabei base, they have developed 876 new party members and 67 activists. Anti-Japanese bases have been established in rural areas of Chabei, the Chongli County Brigade has been formed, and there are also local militias.

After hearing Feng Mulin's introduction, Zhang Dahu and Xiahou Wen did not underestimate Feng Mulin at all.

On the contrary, I admire him very much.

A year ago, when Feng Mulin set out to establish the Chabei base, he had only four or five hundred men. But after a year of development, despite having little support from the column, he had already developed five infantry battalions, as well as an independent battalion and a cavalry battalion directly under the detachment. Although each battalion only had around three hundred men, these troops combined totaled 2000 men.

This kind of development is already very impressive.

Even more impressive was that Feng Mulin had recruited nearly 2000 new party members in Chabei. Once all those activists joined the party, combined with the number of party members in the original Chabei underground party and the army, the total number of party members in Chabei would exceed .

This is a very impressive thing.

With Party members, we can form Party groups and grassroots Party branches. With the leadership of Party branches, we can develop bases.

With a base, the troops can grow and develop.

"How many Japanese troops are there in Chongli County now?"

Zhang Dahu asked the most important question.

"A reinforced Japanese squadron had about 180 men. Because it was a reinforced squadron of the garrison battalion, its strength was less than 200 men. However, Chongli is the northern gate of Zhangjiakou, and there is a security regiment here. I've fought against this security regiment before, and they're quite capable. They were well-treated, and their weapons and equipment were directly provided by the Japanese army. They all used Type rifles and were equipped with both heavy and light machine guns. They were quite different from some other puppet army units."

"How many people are there in this guard group?"

“About 600 people.

"Are there any other troops?"

"There's a puppet police force of about 200 people. But they're just makeshift. When they fought us, the guards were very stubborn and generally refused to surrender. But this police force, at the sound of gunfire, ran faster than rabbits."

"In other words, the county's truly combat-capable troops number approximately 800?"

"Correct."

Zhang Dahu's face looked a little solemn.

If the garrison was weak, it would be fine. But according to Feng Mulin, this garrison was quite strong. So Chongli County had 800 combat-ready soldiers. Xia Houwen asked nearby, "Where are their equipment?"

"The equipment is not bad either. The Japanese army and the security regiment have an estimated seven or eight heavy machine guns. As for light machine guns, the number is even greater, no less than 20. Although the Japanese army does not have enough troops stationed in Chongli County, the weapons and equipment provided to the Japanese army and the security regiment are quite good."

"Where's the gun?"

"According to our intelligence, they don't have any infantry artillery. They should have some mortars and grenade launchers, but we're not sure how many.

Xia Houwen frowned, thought for a moment, and said, "Commander Feng, tell us the truth. How many heavy weapons do you have in the Chabei Detachment?

"Four heavy machine guns, six grenade launchers, and three mortars."

After listening to Feng Mulin's introduction, Zhang Dahu looked at Xia Houwen.

Xiahou Wen nodded slightly to Zhang Dahu and said, "Don't we still have a lot of mortars and grenade launchers? Bring them all with you. We should be able to put enough pressure on Chongli."

Chapter 278: Pinning down the Japanese Army

Zhang Dahu agreed with Xiahou Wen's words.

Seeing Zhang Dahu's agreement, Xiahou Wen spoke up, "The Chanan Detachment has just concluded its counter-mopping-up operation, suffering heavy casualties. However, according to intelligence analysis provided by the military region, the North China Front Army is preparing to launch another sweep of the Xuanzhuohuai base. To do so, the Japanese army will deploy the 8th and 9th Independent Mixed Brigade."

The current Chanan Detachment is no longer able to withstand the sweeping attacks of two independent Japanese brigades. Therefore, the Column hopes that our Chadong and Chabei Detachments will create some disturbances in Chadong and Chabei, drawing the enemy's attention there. This will buy time for the Chanan Detachment to recover its combat effectiveness. This time, the Chanan and Chabei Detachments will operate together. The Column has appointed Comrade Zhang Dahu as Commander-in-Chief, Comrade Feng Mulin as Deputy Commander-in-Chief, and Comrade Xia Houwen as Political Commissar.

Zhang Dahu stood up and saluted.

Then he came to the map and said, "Our goal is to prevent the 8th Independent Mixed Brigade and the 9th Independent Mixed Brigade from sweeping through the Xuanzhuohuai base. We must either draw them to our base or delay their action. Let me first talk about the 8th Independent Mixed Brigade. This 8th Independent Mixed Brigade was formed specifically to sweep through our Jidong base. Not long ago, during the North China Front's sweep of our 8th Column, the 8th Independent Mixed Brigade set out from Gubeikou and focused on sweeping through the Changping base."

"Everyone should know about the Changping base. It was previously the headquarters of the Ji-Re-Liao Advance Army, and our 35th Regiment of the 35th Column also established a base here. However, the results of the counter-mopping-up operation were not very ideal. The th Regiment suffered heavy casualties, and we lost more than half of the Changping base. Moreover, during the mopping-up operation, the th Independent Mixed Brigade suffered few casualties. So they are preparing to sweep our th Column base again."

"Comrade Xiahou Wen and I had a brief discussion earlier, everyone listen. In order to contain the 8th Independent Mixed Brigade in Changping, Comrade Xiahou Wen and I suggested that the Special Forces Regiment should be actively deployed. Previously, the Special Forces Regiment's development in Fengning County focused on stability, gradually sweeping away those bandits and gaining the support of the people of Fengning County. This would gain the Special Forces Regiment a high reputation in Fengning County. The people in other parts of Fengning County would look forward to the Special Forces Regiment's arrival, which would have a very good effect on the Special Forces Regiment's development of a base in Fengning County, and the foundation would be very stable. However, the current situation does not allow the Special Forces Regiment to develop a base so slowly."

Hunger marketing in the 21st century.

Although the Special Forces didn't know what hunger marketing was, they were actually using the same principle. They slowly eliminated bandits and established their bases one step at a time. As a result, the people in those areas affected by banditry would have a very positive impression of the Eighth Route Army. They would surely be eagerly anticipating their arrival. Therefore, when the Special Forces arrived to establish their bases, they would receive the warmest welcome.

This is human nature.

Things that come too easily will not be cherished.

They will only cherish what they have longed for.

But the current situation no longer allows the Special Forces Group to develop its base so steadily.

Zhang Dahu pointed at Fengning County and said, "We hope that the Special Forces Regiment can go straight into Fengning County and threaten it. I don't care what you do, you must make it look like the Special Forces Regiment is going to take Fengning County. Although the Japanese army is short of manpower, they will never allow Fengning County to be lost. Because once Fengning County is lost, the nearest road between Rehe and Chahar will be cut off by us. There will even be a chain reaction, affecting the safety of Rehe. So as long as Fengning County is really in danger, the Japanese army will definitely send troops here. Now the Japanese army can mobilize limited forces in Jidong and Rehe. It is either the Kwantung Army or the 8th Independent Mixed Brigade. The column stated that the Kwantung Army troops will not leave the border in the short term, and even the puppet Manchukuo Army will not come here. Because the situation in the north is tense now, the situation between the Japanese and Soviet armies is on the verge of breaking out, and there is a high possibility of fighting. Therefore, the only thing that the North China Front Army can mobilize at that time is the 8th Independent Mixed Brigade.

"Commander, the Japanese army has the 110th Division in eastern Hebei.

"The 110th Regiment of the 110th Division is currently in Baoding, and the other three regiments are in eastern Hebei. However, their troops need to be stationed in Tianjin, Tangshan and other places, and they also need to garrison in various county towns. The mobile forces they can actually mobilize are limited. The 110th Division is currently understaffed in eastern Hebei to mop up the Eighth Route Army there, so it's impossible for them to send troops to Rehe."

Kang Shui shook his head and said, "Commander, even if our special forces regiment launched an attack, the Japanese army still has a reinforced squadron and a machine gun squadron in Fengning County. With so many bandits who have become traitors, we can't take the county. Will the North China Front Army change its overall strategy because of our actions?"

Kang Shui is no longer the little bandit he used to be.

My horizons have broadened a lot.

Xia Houwen answered for Zhang Dahu, "I've already contacted the 11th Regiment. The leaders of the 11th Regiment have promised that as long as your special forces regiment takes action to attract reinforcements from the surrounding Japanese troops, they will also cause a big commotion in Rehe."

"If the 11th Regiment also participates, that's not a problem."

Kang Shui nodded.

Although Kang Shui is very conceited, he knows the gap between the Special Forces Regiment and the 11th Regiment.
