He Xiaoman’s voice came from over the phone.

“Mom, how could you let that girl into the house? Do you know what the Huo family has done to the Lu family?”

Huo Yao narrowed her eyes slightly. How did He Xiaoman find out she was here?

Considering Old Madam Yang’s personality, it was impossible that she brought this up to He Xiaoman.

He Xiaoman turned her head to glance at her daughter who had just gotten home. Lu Xia’s hand was injured and her coat was dirty. It was clear that Lu Xia had a tough time there.

Huo Yao’s fingers rubbed against the edge of the phone. After He Xiaoman was almost done blabbering, she brought the phone over to the kitchen.

Old Madam Yang was busy making ginger tea when Huo Yao came in, so she asked. “Yao, who was that?”

Huo Yao did not answer her and simply placed the phone by her ear.

The moment Old Madam Yang heard He Xiaoman’s voice, she automatically glanced at Huo Yao before she said, “Yes, Xiaoman?”

He Xiaoman heard Old Madam Yang asking Huo Yao who it was over the phone and instantly felt annoyed. From the looks of it, it was not Old Madam Yang on the phone all this time.

He Xiaoman suppressed her anger. She did not repeat what she had said.

Instead, she said patiently, “Mom, are you on hands-free mode?”

Although the phone was not in hands-free mode, it was quiet and the phone volume was loud, so Huo Yao could naturally hear the conversation.

Huo Yao handed the phone to Old Madam Yang before she went outside.

Old Madam Yang watched Huo Yao leave before she replied. “My phone isn’t on hands-free. Why did you call?”

“Is that stupid girl listening?” asked He Xiaoman to be safe.

Old Madam Yang frowned and said, “She has already left the room.”

He Xiaoman felt relieved. She cleared her throat and continued. “Mom, where is the piece of jade that Dad saved for Xiaxia? Do we still have it?”

“What jade?” Old Madam Yang did not realize what she was talking about immediately.

“I’m talking about the jade that has been in our family for generations. When Dad died, didn’t he say it should go to…”

Before He Xiaoman could finish her sentence, Old Madam Yang realized what she was talking about and interrupted her, “It’s for Yaoyao.”

The moment He Xiaoman heard this, she looked annoyed. “Mom, you should get this straight. That jade belongs to our family. Huo Yao is just an outsider. Even if you want to give it to someone, it should be to your biological granddaughter!”

Old Madam Yang pursed her lips. “Did you call just to ask about the jade?”

“Uh huh.” He Xiaoman answered candidly and cut to the chase. “Something happened to the Lu family, so I need the jade.”
