Monster Hunter in League of Legends
Chapter 11: The Quest, Hunting Rengar?
"Okay, let's calm down and talk about it slowly."
Tarin extended his hand to Nidalee and Rengar respectively, and then briefly recounted the grudges and entanglements between Nidalee and the Flesh-toothed Beast.
Upon learning that Nidalee's foster mother had been killed by a flesh-toothed beast hunter, Rengar's face showed a hint of understanding, but he then coldly said, "That's none of my business."
Although he didn't know why the Flesh-toothed Beast tribe would attack a group of 'human' settlements, Rengar wasn't interested in it because he hadn't been involved.
Well, Rengar doesn't realize that Nidalee is a Paka jungle cat right now.
"How could it be unrelated to you?" Nidalee said coldly. "You're the same age as those flesh-toothed beasts that attacked our settlement."
"I was abandoned from the moment I was born," Rengar said calmly.
"...Uh?" Upon hearing this, Nidalee, who had been furious and looking hostile, was slightly taken aback.
Rengar, however, remained calm, simply crossing his arms and saying, "I came here to hunt to prove that I have become an excellent hunter and deserve to return to the tribe..."
As he said this, Rengar couldn't help but touch his left eye, which was wrapped in bloody bandages, a hint of sadness appearing in his eyes. Then he coldly snorted and said:
"That void creature was my test to return to the tribe, a test to prove I was a powerful hunter. I was a little careless... but I'll hunt it down sooner or later, it's just a matter of time."
Upon hearing Rengar's words, Nidalee opened her mouth, then closed it silently and looked away.
As Rengar spoke, Tarin nodded thoughtfully.
There's not much to say about Rengar's strength in the game, since the game and reality are two completely different environments.
Leaving aside other things, Aurelion Sol, who can summon stars anytime, anywhere, is still likely to lose his life if Rengar locks onto him with his ultimate during the laning phase. But in reality, just watch and see if Rengar can even touch a hair on Aurelion Sol's head.
Well, as the true creator of Runeterra, even a single hair of Aurelion Sol could crush Rengar.
Rengar is indeed different from ordinary fleshy beasts—normally, a fleshy beast of this age should be between two and three meters and two and four meters tall, basically a lion standing upright.
Although Rengar has now reached his prime, he is still only a little over two meters tall, around two and a half meters. He is more than one head shorter than an ordinary fleshy beast.
This is why, despite being the son of the tribal chief, Rengar received no preferential treatment. On the contrary, even his father considered him a disgrace and abandoned him.
Wandering alone and destitute among the tribe, Rengar felt ashamed of being abandoned by his father, so he left the tribe and ventured into the wilderness.
At first, he survived for several weeks on insects and plants, until one day he was almost killed by a legendary hunter named Marcon.
However, after seeing Rengar's pitiful state, perhaps out of sympathy, Marcon let Rengar go.
For the next few months, Rengar followed Malkon, subsisting on the carcasses of the prey Malkon killed. Driven by pride and the nature of the flesh-toothed beast, Rengar still dreamed of returning to his tribe, and thus he carefully observed how Malkon hunted.
But later, Malcolm grew tired of having a flesh-toothed beast always following him. So he threw Rengar a sword, kicked him off the canyon, and forced him to complete his first real hunt and kill, becoming a hunter.
Since then, Rengar has been hunting year after year, pushing himself to the limit every time in an attempt to compensate for his lack of natural talent. He travels throughout Shurima, completing all sorts of difficult and dangerous hunts, using ferocity and brutality many times greater than that of ordinary flesh-toothed beasts to make up for his physical deficiencies.
And then, things came to this: Rengar felt the time had come to return to the Horde. The Horde's test for him was to hunt a elusive Void predator.
Its target is none other than the playable character in League of Legends, Kha'Zix, the Voidreaver.
The prototypes for these two characters are quite obvious, being references to the Predator and the Alien. A related Easter egg also appears in the game—when each player has either Rengar or Kha'Zix, a fateful showdown will trigger once both players reach level 16.
After the Easter egg is triggered, whoever kills the other person first will receive the Easter egg reward.
Rengar's passive, the Beast Tooth Necklace, grants a 25% bonus attack damage after hunting down five different champions. Upon completing the Easter egg kill, it transforms into "Kha'Zix's Head," granting a 36% bonus attack damage and significantly increased vision in bushes.
Kha'Zix, on the other hand, will receive a fourth evolution point to upgrade all his skills.
However, that's all within the game. In the Runeterra storyline, while Rengar and Kha'Zix are indeed mortal enemies, they both have their own things to do.
Rengar is currently engaged in a hunt and pursuit of Kha'Zix.
According to the original storyline, Rengar would eventually lose track of Kha'Zix and return to the Horde with a heavy heart, where he would be humiliated by his father.
Then Rengar noticed that all the spoils in his father's room were covered in dust and looked old and worn.
He realized that his father had sent him to hunt Kha'Zix, most likely because his father himself was too afraid to go.
Rengar then interrupted his father's reprimand, bluntly calling him a coward.
Rengar then leaped at his father and engaged him in battle, easily disemboweling him. The subsequent members of the tribe, the Flesh-toothed Beasts, presented Rengar with a Fire Rose, deeming him worthy to be their leader.
But by then Rengar no longer needed the Horde's approval, so he left the Horde to hunt alone as a lone hunter, while also searching for Kha'Zix to avenge his blindness.
Thinking this, Tarin also looked at Rengar and said:
"I'll treat you first, and in return, after your eyes have fully recovered..."
Upon hearing this, Rengar narrowed his eyes slightly.
Although he wants to regain his sight in his left eye, this does not mean that Rengar will give up his pursuit and dignity for it.
While Rengar was still pondering what kind of blackmail this man might use with his eyes, Tarin continued:
"Fight me as a hunter once your eyes have recovered."
Upon hearing Tarin's words, not only Rengar, but even Nidalee standing to the side couldn't help but be slightly taken aback.
However, out of trust in Tarlin, Nidalee didn't speak. She just looked at Tarlin with a puzzled expression, recalling the scene when she first met Tarlin, and seemed to have noticed some of Tarlin's hobbies.
Rengar, however, didn't think much of it. After hearing Tarin's words, he stared at Tarin for a while, then raised his chin and said, "Fighting is fine, but why do you want to fight me?"
"Because I am also a hunter, I also want to experience the world of other hunters and prey."
Upon hearing Rengar's words, Tarin calmly replied, "Also, the situation with that Void Mantis is somewhat special. I have other plans after the hunt."
For a skilled hunter, canceling their own plans for someone else's is unacceptable. So, whoever wins, we'll listen to them, shall we?
"no problem."
Upon hearing Tarin's words, Rengar agreed without hesitation.
But then, a look of doubt appeared on Rengar's face, and he stared at Tarin and said, "However, I have a question."
"explain."
Having received permission, Rengar nodded and then said, "Since you have your own plans and arrangements, why not just use my eyes to blackmail me?"
Rengar pointed to his left eye and said:
"You say you're a hunter, so you should know what losing an eye means to a hunter who lives year-round in the treacherous forest. If you want me to cancel my hunting plans, you can demand... or rather, blackmail me by treating my eye..."
After a pause, Rengar calmly said, "I may feel resentful and annoyed, but I will still keep my promise."
"That's the mindset of the weak."
Tarlin interrupted Rengar's story, waving his hand and saying:
"If the goal is to prove who the better hunter is, then taking advantage of your weakened state and using your eye injury to blackmail you? Aren't you underestimating me?"
Tarlin laughed and said, "So I will heal you, and then defeat you in your prime, making you admit defeat willingly and carry out my hunt."
Upon hearing this, Rengar opened his mouth, and after a moment a smile appeared on his lips, he couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Hahaha! Okay! Then you should give it a try!"
With that, Rengar simply sat cross-legged on the ground.
"If it's really as you say, then I'd be willing to become part of your herd, let alone carry out your hunt!"
As Rengar finished speaking, a voice echoed in Tarin's mind.
[Mission issued: Heart of the Hunt.]
[Quest Description: Defeat Rengar as a hunter.]
[Quest Reward: Defeat the One-Eyed Rengar to obtain: [Demon Medicine Recipe]. Defeat Rengar at his peak to additionally obtain: [Beginner Dragonvein Forging Skill]]
Tarlin raised an eyelid slightly at this—whether it was the pride and true nature of a hunter or simply the pursuit of the greatest reward, Tarlin clearly leaned more towards the latter.
After thinking about it, Tallinn nodded and said:
"Hmm... I'll fix your eyes first."
As he spoke, Tarin calmly took out some herbs he had collected along the way from his backpack. Just to be on the safe side, he even took out a recovery potion, G, that he had brought with him after he transmigrated to this world.
Tarin brought back a lot of good stuff from Monster Hunter World, but considering that he might not be able to return to Monster Hunter World for a long time, Tarin decided to avoid using these Monster Hunter World supplies if possible.
For example, in yesterday's battle with Nidalee, after confirming that Nidalee only needed paralyzing poison and biological hormones to stabilize her condition, Tarin did not use any healing drugs.
In the Monster Hunter world, both plants and minerals often contain special dragon vein energy. This energy, after being processed and transformed, can form a purer form of life energy.
Although it may seem like just a simple recovery from injuries, it can actually restore even the vital energy lost when injured.
As for the Recovery Potion G, it goes without saying that although it can't compare to the best secret medicine that Tarlin currently has in store, it is still something that can only be made using Dragon Vein Alchemy—and its level is not low either.
At least for now, while Tarlin is confident that he can concoct some basic potions using Elementary Dragon Vein Alchemy, he has absolutely no clue about things like Recovery Potions G or Demon Potions G.
While thinking, Tarin also came to Rengar's side. After checking the condition of Rengar's eyes, he began to make various preparations.
Seeing Tarin's preparations, Rengar gradually calmed down, and after hesitating for a moment, he said:
"You're to my liking. Whether you can heal my eye or not, I'm willing to join your hunt... Of course, whose hunting plan we follow is another matter."
Rengar was well aware of the condition of his eyes and did not intend to put too much pressure on Tarlin.
To this, Tallinn simply nodded and said, "Be prepared, the process will be a little painful."
As he spoke, Tallinn removed the bloody bandage.
Although it was described as bloody, the bandages had actually been soaked in blood and dried out, turning black.
Beneath the bandages lay the wounds he sustained in his recent life-or-death battle with the Voidreaver Khaz.
Huge scars tore through the eyelids and pierced the eyeballs, and tiny fragments of chitin could still be vaguely seen in the ruptured eyeballs.
Although it looks dilapidated... overall, it's alright.
"I was worried that you might gouge out your left eye after it was injured, but it seems that it's okay now."
Tallinn relaxed a little.
Rengar remained silent at first, then looked bewildered.
"Uh... is there any difference?"
Upon hearing Rengar's words, Tarin raised an eyebrow, but then he understood why Rengar looked so puzzled—Runeterra was in a magical medieval world, and Rengar came from a flesh-toothed beast tribe, completely isolated from civilization. Asking him to understand some biological knowledge was simply asking too much.
Thinking it over, Tallinn explained slowly and deliberately:
"Under normal circumstances, when one eye is injured and necrotic, the body will treat the necrotic eye as a foreign object and attack it. This attack often affects the other healthy eye through the bloodstream and other substances."
"This can lead to inflammation, swelling, and a sharp decline in vision in the healthy eye, and even complete blindness in both eyes. So I'm worried that you might just remove the injured eye to protect your healthy eye."
