Love Apartment: Yifei is my junior aunt
Chapter 42 The Rebellious Wan Yu
Chapter 42 The Rebellious Wan Yu
"Wanyu, why are you crying?" Zhanbo panicked as soon as he saw Wanyu wailing.
In the past twenty years, the only girl Zhanbo has successfully coaxed is Hu Yifei. However, as everyone knows, Yifei is not always considered a girl, so Zhanbo's experience in coaxing girls is practically zero.
Not to mention asking him to comfort a girl who suddenly bursts into tears for no reason; his mind would be completely blank and he wouldn't be able to think of a single solution.
"I'm sorry, Zhanbo, I think I did something really bad." Wanyu burst into tears, wiping away her tears as she spoke haltingly.
"Something really bad?" Zhanbo was so nervous that he didn't know what to do with his hands and feet, and for a moment he didn't even notice what Wanyu meant by "I'm sorry".
All he wanted to do now was to soothe Wanyu's tears: "Wanyu, don't cry. I believe that no matter what mistakes you've made, as long as you sincerely repent, everyone will forgive you."
"Really? Really?" Wan Yu sobbed uncontrollably.
"It really is real, more real than real gold."
"I... I sold the Transformers set you gave me..."
Zhanbo didn't hear him clearly at first and blurted out, "I thought it was something big, it's just selling the Transformers. It's okay, Wanyu, it's nothing..."
"What?!"
He was struck dumb, and asked incredulously, "Say it again, what did you sell?"
Wan Yu lowered her head, not daring to look at Zhan Bo, and timidly repeated, "Transformers."
"How could you do this!"
Zhanbo was not only shocked, but also utterly bewildered: "Why? Why is that?"
"My dad stopped my credit card, and I haven't found a job. I'm short of money to pay the rent."
Wan Yu's confidence waned as she spoke, but she still defended herself with a tearful voice, "Zhanbo, I really didn't know. I didn't know this Transformers set was so important to you. If I had known, I would have rather sold all my bags as secondhand knockoffs than touched the gift you gave me."
Zhanbo looked bewildered; he was momentarily at a loss as to whether he should get angry first or comfort Wanyu.
He opened his mouth, and asked in a somewhat deep voice, "So... that Transformers set has been sold yet?"
"Yes, Teacher Zeng already took them to be mailed this afternoon."
"Teacher Zeng?" Zhanbo was confused again. "What does this have to do with Teacher Zeng?"
"It takes three days to get the Taobao seller's identity verification information approved, and I have to pay rent the day after tomorrow. I really don't have time."
"So I asked Teacher Zeng and Nanfeng to help me sell that Transformers set, but I lied to them and said that it was my collection since I was a child, and that's why they helped me put it up online."
"Zhanbo, neither of them knew anything about it. I'm the only one who did something wrong."
"South Wind? South Wind knows too?" Zhanbo suddenly realized, "So that's what South Wind meant at noon..."
Wanyu stopped sobbing: "Did Nanfeng come looking for you?"
"Yeah." Zhanbo felt like his brain was a complete mess. He could only mechanically answer Wanyu's question, "He suddenly called me this morning and asked me to come back during my lunch break. Then he said a lot of things that I found incomprehensible at the time."
He asked me if I had given you any gifts recently, and said that you can't just give gifts that you like, otherwise you have no idea how the other person will treat your gifts.
"Then he told me that giving a girl a gift isn't just about giving it away; you also need to consider whether she likes the gift and whether she can use it."
"I thought he was telling me that you can't just give away figurines; you also have to clean and maintain them for me... Oh my god."
Zhanbo finally understood the meaning behind Nanfeng's words at noon. He muttered to himself, "So that's what he meant. So that's what he meant..."
"Nanfeng!" Wanyu complained, "Since he knew this Transformers set was your favorite, why didn't he stop me?"
As soon as Wan Yu finished complaining, she realized that she had done something wrong.
Sure enough, Zhanbo turned his head and looked at her with a strange look: "Stop you? The gift that was given to you is your own. Now you want to sell your own things. What reason does Nanfeng have to stop you?"
"Besides, you said it yourself, this is your own collection. He can't just stop you from selling your own things without any evidence, can he?"
Previously, Zhanbo's eyes showed shock, anger, confusion, and disbelief, but none of them showed the kind of fear that appeared now, as if he had suddenly come to understand someone.
It's like someone you thought you knew very well, until one day you suddenly discover their true colors beneath the facade. In that instant, the reality and past memories will simultaneously overwhelm you.
So that's what kind of person she is. I've been dealing with someone like that all along.
This almost detached sense of alienation is enough to make anyone involved...
It felt like falling into an ice cave.
"I... I didn't mean that." Wan Yu's tears, which had just stopped, streamed down her face again. "I know, I know. Someone like me, who knew I was doing something wrong but still decided to do it, shouldn't blame others for not stopping me. I just... I just..."
Wan Yu kept repeating "but," but she didn't know what reason she could come up with.
I was just too confused to think straight. It was the first time I had played the villain I hated most, and I wanted to find an accomplice to lessen my guilt. I just didn't want to look so bad in front of Zhanbo.
Wanyu didn't know what she was thinking just now; all she knew was that she felt very wronged.
She knew perfectly well that she was the one who had done wrong, and that she was the only one in the whole affair who had no right to feel wronged.
But she just felt wronged, an unreasonable kind of wronged.
"Okay, Wanyu, don't cry. It's okay, I'm not blaming you."
In fact, Zhanbo only showed that look because his thoughts were too chaotic. He knew that Wanyu was not the kind of person who liked to shirk responsibility.
When I saw Wanyu crying and wiping away tears for the second time, my chaotic emotions—anger, shock, disbelief—were eventually overwhelmed by the heartache that kept welling up inside me.
"I was just too shocked. I don't blame you. After all, I've already given you the things, so they're yours now. You can do whatever you want with your own things."
Zhanbo forced a smile, but he was terrible at acting, let alone in this situation.
Looking at Zhanbo's smile, which was more like a grimace, Wanyu felt even more aggrieved.
Sadness is always interconnected. Perhaps at first, Wanyu was just heartbroken and crying because she had betrayed Zhanbo's feelings for her.
But as she cried, Wanyu realized that she was crying not just because of one thing.
She faced the fear of the unknown after fleeing back to China alone, and the daily anxiety of being found by her father. Her ability to live independently was inferior to that of sixteen-year-old Curry Sauce, and she felt guilty for making everyone run around for her.
The anxiety of a dwindling three-month bank balance, the frustration of repeatedly failing job interviews, and the urgency of having to pay rent soon...
She dared to run away from home alone and return to China by herself because she believed that she could do anything and solve any problem she encountered.
Wanyu left home for three reasons: to escape an arranged marriage, for freedom, and to prove to her father that she was no longer a fledgling bird that needed his protection to survive, but that she had the ability and courage to fly independently.
However, reality is cruel, or rather, the reality for ordinary people is cruel.
Her academic qualifications were like a mountain blocking her career path; without the relevant qualifications, interviewers would not give her the opportunity to demonstrate her high level of musical talent.
Her knowledge of cigars, dollars, and luxury goods wasn't enough to get her a meal in this metropolis.
Even though she learned a lot about finance from her father since childhood, her resume couldn't even get her into the securities firm.
Even setting aside her work, she lacks the ability to live independently at home.
Washing clothes, drying clothes, sweeping, mopping, washing vegetables and cooking... These household activities are not difficult for Wanyu to learn, but after she learned them, she found that her life had gradually been filled with these trivial matters.
What's even more deadly is that Wanyu clearly realizes that her future life may be filled with these trivial matters that waste her precious time and life every day.
Is this really the freedom I crave?
Every night, when Wanyu lay exhausted and feeling utterly defeated in bed, she would repeatedly ask herself this question.
These pent-up negative emotions caused her to make a foolish decision, which is why she can't stop crying now.
But she had to stop crying now, not because she believed Zhanbo's lie that he didn't blame her.
It's simply because Zhanbo is currently comforting her.
Just as Lin's father taught Wanyu from a young age, if you do something wrong, you have to bear the consequences yourself. Before making any decision, you must be prepared to accept any benefits or costs that the decision may bring.
Wanyu had always remembered, but now she was so far away from her father that she had almost forgotten his teachings.
She has made the wrong decision and must bear the consequences of it.
Since it was her own fault, she couldn't let Zhanbo, who had already been deeply hurt by her, turn around and keep comforting her.
This is too unfair to him.
Wan Yu chuckled as she watched Zhan Bo's face contort with anxiety, yet he forced a smile.
And this kind of exhibition is really ugly.
Wanyu still prefers Zhanbo's carefree, smiling face.
"Zhanbo." Wanyu stopped crying, her eyes shining with a frightening intensity. Although her voice still carried a hint of sobbing, her tone held an unprecedented firmness.
"Let's go find Nanfeng and Teacher Zeng and ask them where they mailed the package."
Dad said that if you don't think things through beforehand, there's no point in making amends afterwards.
But Dad, you know, your daughter has never been a good girl.
If it can't be made up for afterward? Then I'll try to make up for it anyway.
Wanyu wiped away her tears: "Let's go find our Transformers."
The second update may be late, but it's here. Some sharp-eyed brothers have already noticed that I've finally signed the contract! Hahaha (laughs loudly for three seconds).
I won't say much more, but in short, thank you all for your continued support of this book. Without your encouragement and support, I definitely wouldn't have been able to persevere. Your comments and continued reading constantly remind me that if someone likes my book and my story, it's equivalent to recognizing my soul.
I am extremely grateful, and I will do my best to write this book even better. As I said at the beginning, this is a story of love and warmth.
Finally, as a new author with a new book, I'm asking for your continued reading, collection, recommendations, and monthly votes—basically anything you can ask for, hahaha.
A salute to all the readers who have made it this far.
Your friend, Sweet Potato Pigeon.
