Killing Monks
Chapter 4 Unaware
"This contract shall become effective immediately upon being signed by both parties. Two copies are made, one for each party as proof… Signing signifies voluntary self-sacrifice and settlement of all karmic debts…"
"...The use of the seal signifies compassionate acceptance and the accumulation of merit. Once this agreement is reached, both the living and the dead are even..."
The final stamping mark had already been applied.
The seal reads... Temple ordination certificate seal!
Unbeknownst to him, Guangyuan had already clenched his fist.
No...this is not right!
What can he do?
He can only practice martial arts!
However, the internal energy of his "Karmic Obstacle Subduing Demon Skill" was stagnant, and it was even more serious than before.
However, he still practiced diligently, so at this moment, besides practicing martial arts...
He had no other choice!
A few days later, his "Karmic Obstacle Subduing Demon Skill" had completely stalled, and his "Weituo Palm" was also in disarray.
He became increasingly frustrated as he fought, and his moves gradually lost their rhythm.
Suddenly, the "Homage to the Three Jewels" move, which should have been neutral and peaceful, was transformed in his hands into a vicious killing move that specifically targeted the upper, middle, and lower vital points!
This change is ruthless and swift, intended to cripple a person's combat power instantly and destroy their foundation. Its killing intent is chilling, completely contrary to the original intention of "Wei Tuo Palm" to lay the foundation, cultivate the mind, and uphold righteousness.
After one move, their minds were instantly in sync!
Guangyuan was slightly taken aback when he saw the move he had just used.
This is……
This is a "punch" thrown according to one's own will, a punch that belongs to oneself!
So that's how martial arts can be done!
The pent-up frustration and resentment that had been building up in my chest for days finally burst forth.
He made a snap decision, channeling all his surging emotions into his palm, creating a completely new "Weituo Palm" technique.
This set of palm techniques is completely different from what is taught in the temple.
Every move was fierce and aimed straight for the vital points, a fight to the death.
Each palm strike carried with it the questions in his heart, an angry accusation directed at the heavens, the Buddha, and the temple!
how so?
How could this be!
All the confusion, anger, and sorrow in one's heart are expressed through this set of palm techniques.
After finishing the set, he felt completely refreshed.
This... is the palm technique he should be practicing!
"Junior brother... excellent palm technique." Guangming's applause came from the side. "However, the intent behind this palm strike is far removed from the temple's philosophy, and is even... somewhat rebellious."
"It's best not to let the other people in the temple see this."
"Thank you for your guidance, Senior Brother," Guangyuan said, pressing his palms together in thanks to Guangming.
After finishing his punches, he seemed to feel a little more at peace.
How could someone who has mastered such a martial art truly find peace in their heart?
For several days in a row, his boxing skills improved more and more, from the outside to the inside, and even his long-stagnant "Karma Subduing Demon Skill" began to change.
He became...violent.
The "Karmic Obstacle Subduing Demon Skill" was originally an introductory mental cultivation method in the temple, which cultivates pure and peaceful internal energy for subduing demons. To advance to a higher level, one must practice Buddhism and subdue karmic obstacles such as greed, anger, and ignorance in one's heart with the determination to "subdue demons".
But where is there any peace in his heart?
It is a churning of doubt and anger, an uncontrollable "anger" and "delusion"!
Regardless of what one knew in a past life or what one has learned in this life, Buddhism teaches that all sentient beings suffer and that the cycle of rebirth is a prison.
The path to liberation lies in seeing through the illusion of impermanence, severing attachments, and attaining Nirvana through precepts, concentration, and wisdom, thus completely ending the root of suffering.
Begin by recognizing the limitations of life, and through spiritual practice, ultimately attain enlightenment and freedom.
This is the Dharma.
But... after recognizing the "limitations," why only pursue personal "enlightenment" and "freedom"?
Why not change the "limitations" themselves?
Why not fill in that "sea of suffering"?
Thus, Mahayana Buddhism arose, proclaiming "seeking Buddhahood above and liberating all sentient beings below," aiming not only for personal liberation but also to help all sentient beings awaken.
No, that's not enough!
It's not "enlightenment"!
It's "change"!
If this world is wrong, then change this world!
If the whole world is muddy while I alone am pure?
Then I'll single-handedly overturn the entire world!
With this thought, the pure and peaceful internal energy of the "Karma Subduing Demon Technique" within his body suddenly surged violently!
His inner energy went out of control, rampaging through his meridians, and a tearing pain instantly swept over his entire body.
His vision went black, but he gritted his teeth and held on.
It was only because that rampaging true energy, in its rampage, had ruthlessly broken through the invisible shackles of the past!
Amidst the excruciating pain, the barrier between realms shattered with a deafening roar.
He leaped from the Seeking Breath Realm to the Hearing Realm!
The three realms of desire are: the mortal realm, the realm of seeking breath, and the realm of hearing.
"Forging" means hammering and forging, and "ordinary" refers to the mortal body; this is forging the ordinary!
This realm involves tempering the physical body with a disciplined spirit until the muscles and bones are strong and the blood and qi are abundant, marking the beginning of transcendence.
Guangyuan was already accomplished when he was twelve years old.
"Seeking" means to search and observe, and "breath" means inner breath; this is seeking breath!
In this realm, practitioners find the Qi sensation, circulate it throughout the body, and internal energy arises spontaneously, moving stealthily like the wind.
Guangyuan has been diligently cultivating in this realm for four years, but his progress has always been slow.
Using the name of the Hinayana "Sravaka" fruition, it is the realm of Sravaka.
The internal energy within this area can now penetrate the body, spreading like thunder across the distance, condensing into palm force and sword energy that travels through the air!
Just like now, Guangyuan endured the churning pain in his meridians, suddenly exhaled and shouted, and pushed out a palm!
He unleashed his self-created "Weituo Palm" technique at will, sending three sharp palm strikes through the air and hitting a large tree ten feet away.
The tree did not fall, but three dark handprints were left on its trunk.
The palm strike passed through the tree without damaging the bark in the slightest, only shattering the wood inside into dust.
Ruthless to the core, that's all there is to it.
After the palm strike, I felt completely refreshed.
Guangyuan slowly finished his practice, gathering the rampaging true energy one by one.
The pain of my meridians being torn is still there, but what is this physical pain compared to the mental anguish and confusion I've been feeling these past few days?
During evening prayers, after the vegetarian meal, Guangyuan overheard the guest monk Guangfa chatting and learned that someone had come to the temple looking for him that day, but had been sent away by the temple staff.
"It's a lay Buddhist named Li Kai. He said he received your kindness many years ago. He came this time because his son is seriously ill and he wants to ask the senior monks in the temple to help him."
Guangyuan then remembered that seven or eight years ago, he had gone down the mountain with his master and rescued a man who had collapsed by the roadside. That man was Li Kai.
He later took the man back to the temple and cared for him for two days until Li Kai recovered. The man even made a special trip to the temple the following year to fulfill his vow, which was quite lively at the time, but it had been five or six years since he last saw him.
"Why didn't anyone tell me?" Guangyuan thought to himself, displeased.
Guangfa hesitated, then ultimately said nothing.
Guangyuan immediately understood.
He is no longer a promising talent valued by the temple; he is now just a monk who has been demoted to manage the fields in the back mountains.
"What happened next? The temple didn't intervene? Why did they send him away?" Guangyuan pressed.
Guangfa glanced around and lowered his voice: "His son was injured, and his internal energy has invaded his organs. I'm afraid... he won't last long. Even if the abbot intervenes, the chances of survival are less than 50%."
Guangyuan's heart sank, as if a ball of fire had suddenly ignited within him.
"Where is he now?" He put down his chopsticks.
