The Wizard: Starting as a Corpse Collector Apprentice and Paying for a Monthly Subscription
Chapter 53: The Competition and the First Hunt
Through generations of crossbreeding, the Blackscale Horse has astonishing endurance; even after a two-hour run, its speed remains undiminished.
Tyron looked out the car window and watched the scenery outside change like a painting.
The landscape gradually transitioned from neat, green farmland to overgrown wasteland, and finally to undulating hilly terrain.
The number of pedestrians on both sides of the road has also changed significantly.
Ordinary civilian carriages disappeared, replaced by military transport vehicles covered with thick iron sheets and even engraved with defensive runes.
In addition, you can see convoys with different wizard tower flags, as well as groups of mercenaries and bounty hunters with fierce eyes.
A faint smell of blood filled the air, and occasionally the rapid hoofbeats and rough shouts could be heard from afar.
Fifteen minutes later, the carriage gradually slowed down and finally came to a stop.
"We've arrived, get off!"
At the leader's call, Tyron and Cathy stepped down from the carriage.
As soon as he landed, Tyron looked around, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
This place is less of an outpost and more of a border fortress filled with a wild and chaotic atmosphere.
The massive wooden fence, five meters high, was covered with spikes and defensive arrays, firmly enclosing the area.
Inside the enclosure, a wide main road runs north to south, with two rows of rugged stone and wood buildings on both sides.
The streets were bustling with people and traffic.
The carcasses of various freshly hunted monsters were piled haphazardly on carts, some still twitching, others already emitting a strong stench, before being transported to different purchasing shops.
Centered on this bustling main road, eight distinct building complexes are distributed around it, each representing one of the eight forces stationed here.
At the very center of the outpost stands a seven-story ancient castle.
At the top of the ancient castle, a crimson flame is burning fiercely, a symbol of the protection bestowed by the Holy Father of the Source Fire and the order that governs this place.
"Demon Cradle Scouts! Investigating the Stinging Cockroach Nest! We're 4 short, looking for a fire-healing priest skilled in detoxification!"
"Wandering Realm Level 3, Hunting Rock Armor Bears! Two wizards skilled in earth magic are needed! Minimum requirement: Level 8 Apprentice, must master at least two Level 2 earth magic spells!"
The noisy shouts rose and fell.
Suddenly, a quarrel caught Tyron's attention.
"Freshly harvested Devil Bull! An absolute must-have! The top choice for fitness and body building, first come, first served, only three magic crystals each!"
A burly man from a nearby stall immediately yelled back:
"Devil bull testicles are nothing! This is a pure natural protein nutrient liquid extracted from the bodies of maggots deep in the mountains! One sip, and in three days you'll become a real muscle man!"
"You're talking nonsense! This is the real deal!"
"You're the one talking nonsense! Dare to try and prove me wrong?"
The next second, the two muscular men, who were as big as small mountains, started fighting. Their punches landed hard, and the people around them not only didn't try to stop them, but instead excitedly watched and cheered.
Tyron's lips twitched.
"Deep-mountain maggot nutrient solution... Will drinking this stuff really prevent mutations?"
Looking around, this place is full of vitality, with everything thriving.
Just as Tyron was observing his surroundings, a cold, hard voice came from afar.
"Hey, you guys over there! You're the new apprentices this time, right?"
Everyone turned around and saw a young man wearing tight leather armor and the emblem of the Kane Wizard Tower on his chest striding over.
He was lean and wiry, with sharp, eagle-like eyes, and two curved swords at his waist.
"I am a sentry hunter under the Kane Wizard Tower, a level 7 wizard apprentice. You can call me Scythe."
The sickle swept his gaze across the crowd, his tone leaving no room for argument:
"Come with me to the camp."
Soon, the scythe was handed over to the level 8 apprentice who was escorting Tyron and the others.
Then, he led Tyron and a group of low-ranking apprentices through the bustling streets to a large courtyard located in a secluded corner.
The courtyard is very large, about 1500 square meters, with a brick and stone building on each side.
Directly in front was a two-story warehouse, the door of which had long since disappeared, and various rusty animal traps and broken spears were carelessly discarded at the entrance.
At this moment, the courtyard was in complete chaos.
Five or six young men who looked like apprentices were carrying something, sweating profusely, their faces filled with panic.
Sickle walked into the courtyard, frowned slightly at the chaotic scene, and then turned to look at Tyron and the others:
"You've come at just the right time."
"It just so happens that we're short-handed right now, so we need a few quick-witted people to help with the encirclement."
His gaze swept across the crowd like a blade, and his finger quickly pointed:
"You, you, you, and you... the last one, come here too."
"You five, come with me."
Sickle has a keen eye for choosing people; she skipped over Cathy, who looked weak and had a special background, and selected only the more robust-looking boys.
Of these five people, three are level 3 apprentices and one is a level 2 apprentice.
Only Tyron is a Level 1 Apprentice.
Before the five people could react, the staff in front of them stuffed a heavy package into their arms.
A level 3 apprentice, somewhat bewildered, tentatively asked:
"Team leader...where are we going now? Don't we need to arrange accommodation first?"
The sickle gave him a cold glance:
"If you don't want to go, then go back to the Wizard's Tower."
The apprentice immediately shut his mouth.
Cathy stood to the side, watching Tyron be chosen. She opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something, but under the fierce gaze of the scythe, she ultimately didn't dare to utter a sound.
Tyron didn't seem to care. He casually placed his luggage in the corner and weighed the package in his arms. It seemed to contain some fishing nets or something similar.
"Walk!"
With a command from Sickle, he led five men out of the courtyard.
They passed through the north gate of the outpost and hiked directly up a steep hillside.
The hillside was extremely difficult to traverse, covered with loose rocks and thorns.
After climbing for less than five minutes, the four apprentices, who were used to a life of luxury, began to pant and stagger.
In contrast, Tyronn, with a physique of 2.4, only experienced slightly rapid breathing, and his steps remained steady and powerful.
The sickle stopped and looked back.
A hint of surprise flashed in his eyes when he saw Tyronn's composed demeanor:
"I didn't realize that you, a corpse-collecting apprentice, are so much stronger physically than these good-for-nothings."
"If that's the case, then that's perfect."
The sickle pointed to a weed-covered path ahead and said to Tyron:
"Keep climbing up this road, and there's a crossroads about 500 meters away. Stay there and keep watch."
"If a spotted rabbit charges towards you, subdue it at all costs!"
"Then immediately take out the signal transmitter from your bag and send a signal; I'll be there soon."
At this point, Sickle paused, his eyes sharpening:
"If you could just kill that beast, that would be best."
"According to the rules, whoever kills it keeps it; that spotted rabbit is your trophy."
Finally, he added:
"Remember! If you see anyone from other wizarding towers, especially those bastards from the Blazing Sun Wizarding Tower..."
"It's better to let the spotted rabbit escape and set a trap for him than to let them succeed!"
Upon hearing this, Tyron instantly understood.
This is not an urgent mission, but a hunting competition between various forces.
Moreover, it seems that the Wizard Tower side is at a disadvantage and is desperately trying to gain points.
"Understood."
Tyron nodded, said nothing more, took a deep breath, and strode briskly up the path.
Watching Tyrone's figure quickly disappear into the jungle, Scythe turned around and cursed at the other four apprentices who were still panting heavily:
"Four useless people!"
"They're already at level 2 or 3, yet their physique is still inferior to a level 1 apprentice!"
"Get running, everyone!"
The four apprentices were scolded until their faces turned red and white, but they dared not refute him.
They could only grit their teeth and keep up, secretly harboring resentment towards Tyron.
"How dare they be the first to stick their neck out, making us lose face..."
"Just you wait, you'll get what's coming to you later!"
Tyron paid no attention to the venomous gazes behind him.
He climbed for another five minutes and soon arrived at the crossroads that the sickle had mentioned.
The view here is expansive, and it is surrounded by dense bushes.
At this moment, strange shouts and piercing squeaks from some creature could be faintly heard from deep within the hillside.
Upon hearing this voice, Tyron's mind quickly recalled the basic Warcraft knowledge he had recently been cramming on.
"Spectral Rabbit, Level 1 Magical Beast."
"It is a size larger than a regular domestic rabbit, and its gray-black fur is covered with irregular dark red markings."
"Its limbs are slender but its explosive power is extremely strong, and its claws are as sharp as knives."
"Most importantly, its fur has an excellent affinity for fire elements. When attacked, it can instantly activate magic runes, raising its body surface temperature to over 100 degrees Celsius."
"A complete spotted rabbit pelt is worth around 300 purple gold coins on the market."
Tyron licked his lips, pulled a bone sword from his robes, and gripped it tightly in his hand.
"Since he's killed, he's mine..."
"Then I won't stand on ceremony."
