Anti-Japanese War Espionage: I Have an Omniscient Perspective
Chapter 7 School Affairs Meeting, New Positions
The car drove back to Xixi Primary School.
Twenty more soldiers in military police uniforms appeared at the school.
Deputy Director Zhou got out of the car and spoke with the leader of the military police, entrusting him with the responsibility of school safety and order.
Lin Rui stayed by the car, observing the new situation at the school.
Besides the 20 military police, several figures were busy around a pile of wooden crates at the logistics department, some unloading weapons and others organizing teaching aids.
Deputy Director Yu came over and said to Lin Rui, "The instructors have arrived. Go to my office and get the instructor roster from the table. Take it to the conference room on the east side of the playground."
"Yes, Director." Lin Rui responded and quickly went upstairs to retrieve the roster.
Emerging from the office and reaching the stairwell, Lin Rui saw a handsome man in a grey military uniform standing in the corridor, scrutinizing the school building map on the wall. The man, wearing round-framed glasses and exuding a composed demeanor, turned at Lin Rui's footsteps. His gaze, sharp as an eagle, swept over Lin Rui before settling on the roster in his hand. His tone was calm yet carried an undeniable air of scrutiny: "Are you one of Deputy Director Yu's men?"
Lin Rui's heart skipped a beat; this person was most likely an instructor.
He straightened up and nodded: "Yes, I am Lin Rui, Deputy Director Yu's driver."
"Zhou Yanqiu." The man gave his name, flipped through a couple of pages in the roster, tapped his own name with his fingertip, and then looked up to ask, "Judging from your posture, you seem to have undergone formal military training. Which unit did you serve in before?"
"Originally a Central Army armored regiment, transferred here by Deputy Director Yu." Lin Rui deliberately simplified his background, his expression calm and unwavering.
A hint of inquiry flashed in Zhou Yanqiu's eyes, but he didn't press further, only saying calmly, "The Central Army is good. But you must remember, here, stance and loyalty are more important than military skills."
After saying that, he handed the roster back to Lin Rui and continued strolling around.
Lin Rui took the roster downstairs, and couldn't help but wonder about the instructors. What were their identities?
Although he had the roster in his hand, he did not look at it.
He walked to the playground, and a woman in military uniform walked towards him from the left, holding a stack of mimeographed papers.
A gust of wind blew, and "whoosh," the papers flew out.
Lin Rui quickly stepped forward, bent down to help pick up the papers, which contained content related to anti-Japanese propaganda.
The woman smiled apologetically and said, "Thank you."
Lin Rui carefully placed the folded brochures aside. "Let me do it."
Su Manqing handed the promotional materials to Lin Rui. "You must be Director Yu's driver. I'm Su Manqing, the new political instructor."
The two headed towards the logistics department, handed over the promotional materials for storage, and then Lin Rui went towards the conference room.
He strode into the conference room with the roster in his hand. Deputy Director Yu was standing in front of the long wooden table writing something. When he saw him come in, he raised his hand and gestured, "Put it on the table. Wait outside for a bit. I'll talk to you later."
"Yes, Director." Lin Rui put the roster away, turned and left the meeting room, gently closing the door behind him.
He didn't go far, but leaned against a pillar in the corridor, his gaze seemingly fixed on the military police busy on the parade ground.
After a while, the eight instructors entered the conference room one after another.
With a thought, Lin Rui quietly activated his three-dimensional stereoscopic vision.
Through the heavy wooden door, the scene inside the conference room was clearly displayed.
At the long wooden table, Deputy Director Yu sat in the main seat, while the eight instructors each found a place to sit.
"Please introduce yourselves," said Deputy Director Yu.
The first to speak was the man Lin Rui had met on the second floor. He adjusted his round-framed glasses, stood up, and nodded slightly to Deputy Director Yu: "Political Instructor Zhou Yanqiu, formerly of the Fuxing Society's Special Service Department. In the days to come, I will strictly control the political stance of the trainees, strengthen their belief in resisting Japan and saving the nation, and reinforce their discipline as spies, ensuring that every trainee is absolutely loyal."
Lin Rui could sense that Zhou Yanqiu's gaze swept over everyone present, carrying a scrutinizing meaning.
This guy's an old spy.
Immediately afterwards, Su Manqing stood up and said, "I am Su Manqing, the assistant political instructor. I was previously in Nanjing and I am good at propaganda and psychological counseling. I will cooperate with Instructor Zhou to do a good job in guiding the trainees' thoughts and comforting their minds, especially those young students, and help them adapt to the pace of the special training class as soon as possible."
Deputy Director Yu nodded slightly, then turned his gaze to the officer sitting on the other side.
The officer stood up abruptly, tall and imposing, with a voice as rough as sandpaper: "Zhao Hu, the chief military training instructor, was formerly an instructor at the Baoding Military Academy. I am responsible for infantry tactics, shooting, hand-to-hand combat, and the mud pit fighting training that Mr. Dai specifically emphasized."
As he finished speaking, the officer beside him stood up and said in a gentle voice, "Military assistant instructor Chen Yunhe, firearms instructor at the Central Military Academy. I will work with Instructor Zhao to teach firearms disassembly and maintenance, drill training, and battlefield first aid."
The two are distinctly different, one assertive and the other gentle.
Then, the man sitting in the back stood up.
He was dressed in a suit, his eyes as cold as ice, and simply stated his identity: "Shen Xiaochen, chief instructor of special techniques, returned from Germany, specializing in demolition, assassination and disguise."
Shen Xiaochen sat down, and the man in military uniform next to him stood up, a gentle smile on his face: "Li Mosheng, special technology assistant instructor, technical officer of Nanjing Telecommunications Bureau. I am in charge of telecommunications and secret writing instruction."
Next, a man in a long robe stood up, clasped his hands in a fist salute, and bowed to Deputy Director Yu. "Zhang Xiaoshan of the Green Gang, invited by the Director to teach some martial arts and Shanghai ways, including slang and jargon."
The last to stand up was a man in military uniform: "Yang Lei, an instructor at the Army Infantry School. I'm in charge of field tactics and reconnaissance training."
After the eight instructors introduced themselves, the meeting room fell silent for a moment.
Deputy Director Yu put down the documents in his hand, glanced at everyone, and said solemnly, "Gentlemen, the Qingpu Special Training Class was established at a time of national crisis. Time is tight and the task is heavy. I hope that everyone will perform their duties, cooperate closely, and train these trainees into combat-ready soldiers as soon as possible."
"Yes!" the eight instructors replied in unison, their voices carrying outside.
Lin Rui quietly withdrew his three-dimensional stereoscopic vision.
He leaned against a pillar, lost in thought.
It seems I'm destined for a career as a spy.
I wonder if I'll be able to establish contact with the underground Communist Party in the future?
Just then, the conference room door opened, and Su Manqing poked her head out, smiling and waving at him: "Lin Rui, Deputy Director Yu wants you to come in."
Lin Rui walked into the conference room.
Deputy Director Yu said, "This is my driver, Lin Rui. Lin Rui, please introduce yourself."
"Yes. My name is Lin Rui, former private first class of the 1st Company, Armored Battalion, Armored Corps of the Central Army."
Deputy Director Yu nodded: "This Lin Rui, he just came down from the battlefield two days ago. He was detained in the military court for violating military orders, but I got him out and brought him to the training camp. The reason I did this is because this kid is good at fighting. At that time, the assistant in the tank he was in had been killed in action. He alone had to drive the tank and operate the weapons, and even then he destroyed two Japanese machine gun positions and a Type 2 infantry gun, allowing the remnants of the infantry company he was working with to capture the Japanese position."
After hearing what Deputy Director Yu said, the eight instructors who were originally puzzled understood.
In military matters, everything is about strength. Those who can perform like this on the battlefield are no less capable than their instructors.
Then, Deputy Director Yu explained why he had called Lin Rui in.
"The school has vehicles issued by the Special Service and vehicles donated by various sectors of Shanghai. We need someone to manage the vehicles, and I think Xiaolin can do it."
Having a driver manage the vehicles is quite appropriate.
Moreover, the vehicles are important assets of the school, so it is only natural to entrust them to Deputy Director Yu's people for management.
"The director is right, I think it's a good idea," Zhou Yanqiu was the first to speak up, and the other instructors all agreed.
Deputy Director Yu nodded in satisfaction: "Alright, let's talk about tomorrow's recruitment. Xiao Lin, please get a chair and sit down at the back to listen."
"Yes." Lin Rui picked up a stool from the wall and sat obediently at the back.
Being able to participate in meetings and obtain a position means that things are getting better.
