Chapter 44 The Banquet
Night, a winter night.
The cool moonlight shone on the outdoor pool of the Edgewater Hotel in Upper Hills, but did nothing to diminish the vibrant atmosphere.
This was a party held in an affluent area, and the attendees should have been high-society figures and movie stars.
One could tell at a glance from the clothes of each guest whether they were of high or low status.
The group that poses provocatively and is barely clothed is clearly selling their bodies or souls to make a living.
Even though they usually present a dignified and elegant image on screen, and are even revered as goddesses; even though their clothes are now so revealing that they can barely cover their bodies, they still insist on maintaining an image of being "untouchable".
Meanwhile, those seemingly calm and composed gentlemen had actually instructed their servants to bring up the room key along with the next glass of champagne, harboring the idea of spending the night together and anticipating something.
Although it was called a banquet, the entire top floor of the Edgewater Hotel was filled with an atmosphere of decadence almost like a party.
"You have good taste, Jiu Jiu. Did you know in advance that so many female celebrities would be there? Otherwise, why would you have begged me to bring you?"
With a blonde woman on each arm, Impa shouted loudly at Kong Jiu next to him amidst the synthesizer music.
Kong Jiu still vaguely remembered the two women in his arms. One was known for her pure and innocent image and had many male fans; the other was famous for her cold and aloof demeanor and was known as the "Snow Queen".
However, at this moment, the two actresses, who are usually dignified and beautiful on screen, had their white chests bound in a V-shape, which was quite eye-catching, and they were entwined in Impha's arms, flirting with each other.
Even as Impa shoved and kneaded him like an object, the two beautiful women still served the young nobleman with smiles on their faces.
"Although you seem to have misunderstood why I came here, thank you for bringing me here, Impa. Consider it a favor I owe you."
Compared to Imphal, Congo held a glass of fragrant champagne, alone with no girls around, appearing quite calm.
"Oh dear! I can't pretend I didn't hear that!"
Impa abruptly shoved away the two beautiful women beside him. His rough action elicited a reproachful yelp from them, but he ignored it and moved closer to Kong Jiu.
"You're always cooking and cleaning, you're practically my servant. You finally managed to come up to the city for some fun, how can you say you owe me something?"
"No, we can't keep talking like that, it'll make our relationship fade."
Kong Jiu smiled and raised his glass, indicating, "I misspoke, so I'll punish myself with a drink."
Watching Kong Jiu gulp down a glass of champagne mixed with lemon essential oil and orange juice, Ying Pa clapped and nodded with a silly grin.
"Hmm, not bad, Jiu Jiu, have fun! You've been under too much pressure lately, you really need to relax! I'm not keeping you company any longer!"
Supported by two beautiful women, Impa staggered into the room.
Kong Jiu's superficial intoxication vanished like smoke, turning into a cold indifference.
"Arthur, are you sure this is it?"
He muttered to himself, surrounded by no one, as if talking to himself.
A week has passed since Wendart was beaten up and tied up in the sewers.
This week, there have been many conflicts between the Great Vortex War Gang and the Purple Light Cult.
Overall, however, everything was within a controllable range, creating the impression that both sides were evenly matched.
Kongjiu obtained permission from Farah and Wintert to roam freely on the bottom lane, and the corpse collection work went quite smoothly.
But he did not slack off because of this.
On the contrary, after learning about Squich's background, Conju made up his mind to learn psionic abilities.
Squich wanted to make the gold coin, Conjug, more valuable, so he began training it.
Just a few days ago, when Kong Jiu was studying spiritual energy, Squich brought some news with a grin.
"Hehe, Kong, my descendants have sent some interesting news: the Edgewater Hotel has detected subspace fluctuations."
After searching for half a month for a node in the Iron Curtain subspace, we've finally made progress.
"We need a psionicist who can enter and exit the warp to investigate in person. Farah knows nothing about the warp, so we can only rely on you."
Squichet curled his tail around a dark green, exquisite ring and presented it to Kongjiu.
"This elemental stone ring will allow us to communicate remotely. Wear it, and I will guide you."
Kong Jiu thus ended up with this errand-running job.
Soon, he encountered the first trouble of this mission.
This harsh winter brought unusually heavy snow to Hills, a southern coastal city, and it's true that many lower-town civilians froze to death.
But as the saying goes, a timely snowfall brings a bountiful year, and the heavy snowfall over several days created a spectacular sight of snow covering the entire port city of Hills.
The tourism industry is booming, with Edgewater hotels booked well into the spring.
Kong Jiu, this international student, had no legal status, no social standing, and was of Asian descent. He tried to contact hotels offline, claiming he was willing to pay ten times the price for priority access, but was told each time, "No rooms available, wait for notification."
Helpless, he could only turn to his roommate, Impa, a wealthy young man who frequented various hotels in the upper part of the city, for help.
Upon hearing the name Edgewater Hotel, Impa's eyes widened.
"All booked? I've never encountered this situation before?"
Impa took out her phone, and the booking app showed that there were still two or three floors available.
Kong Jiu didn't say anything, but silently swiped his finger to put the app in the background.
"Hills Hotel Pass (Internal Version)".
He glanced at his app's name: "Hills Hotel Guide".
"Uh, then you can book a room for me, and I'll transfer the money to you."
"What are you talking about! There's a banquet on the top floor tomorrow night. I'll show you around!"
……
And so, Kong Jiu was taken by Impa to the hunting grounds where he had found beautiful women.
"Arthur, Arthur, are you there?"
Conju stroked the ring on his ring finger and whispered Squiche's name.
"Uh...whoa—hey, hey, the warp signal is a bit unstable. Don't worry, this just means the intelligence was right; there really is warp fluctuation here!"
When Squich's words finally entered his mind, Kong Jiu felt a little relieved.
"I'm glad everything went smoothly. Now that I'm on the rooftop of the Edgewater Hotel, what's the next step?"
Kong Jiu observed whether anyone around him noticed his muttering to himself, and cautiously communicated with Squich.
"Don't rush, Kong, don't rush. We can only start at midnight. You can dance around on the dance floor for a while first. Later, a psionicist we both know will come and guide you."
"A psionicist we know?"
Kong Jiu pressed his hand on the dark green ring, his voice low.
"Could it be Farah? A cult leader like him showing up in a place like this, he'd be arrested, wouldn't he?"
"Alright, so you're assuming that none of the gentlemen here are cult leaders? Let me tell you, this ring has a visual function."
The old man in the purple and white tuxedo to your right was a serial killer and cannibal in his youth. He even made a deal with me. If he hadn't lacked spiritual roots, he might have become a Wendigo...
Oh, wait, she's here! Your backup is here! Look to the left, look to the left!
During the call, Squich gave instructions for Conju to turn his gaze to the left.
Approaching us was a woman with long, deep black hair cascading over her shoulders, her wheat-colored skin glowing with a languid sheen. A faint smile played in her eyes as she held a wine glass, exuding elegance and nonchalance. A black halter top accentuated her delicate collarbones, her aura both cool and sophisticated, with a touch of relaxed, mature sexiness.
"Did you see her, Kong? Hey, hey feeder? Damn it, the warp signal's gone down again?"
Congo, who had seized control of the House of Commons, quickly put the Squich communications to the back of his mind.
Good evening, Kong Jiu. I'm glad you're still alive.
The beautiful woman with black hair and brown skin, her long hair tied up, sat down next to Kong Jiu with a smile.
Am I still alive? What a strange way to greet someone!
A hint of surprise flashed through Kong Jiu's mind, but he still greeted him:
"Hi, beautiful, do we know each other?"
He tried his best to calm himself down and make his tone sound calm yet firm.
"Hehehe, you're so funny, Kong Jiu."
The beauty covered her mouth and chuckled softly, her every smile and frown causing Kong Jiu's heart to flutter.
"I'm Neos. Didn't we just meet about two weeks ago?"
