Chapter 65 The Vow Beneath the Cracks
Zhenyi nodded.
She subconsciously glanced at the air around her. December Shuo was floating there cross-legged, scratching his head somewhat awkwardly.
"Tell her I didn't mean to make things this big," December muttered to himself, still pondering why he hadn't used Zhenyi's body and had instead let her get hurt.
The world's corrective power remains an important factor that cannot be ignored.
Mai didn't repeat those words, but simply looked at Maki: "It was his power. But I did it willingly."
"Mai." Maki grasped Mai's hand, tightening her grip slightly. "You don't need to push yourself so hard. You've said before that you just want an easy life. Leave this fighting and killing to us."
"The past is the past." Mai didn't pull her hand away; instead, she grasped Maki's hand, her eyes no longer evasive. "Sister, you destroyed the Zenin family and carried everything on your own shoulders. What about me? I want to carry something too."
She took a deep breath, her eyes hardening.
"Besides, I'm really strong now. Maybe even stronger than you."
Maki paused, stunned. Looking at her younger sister, she suddenly realized she had truly changed. She was no longer the Maki who only complained and ran away.
Maki smiled with relief. She reached out and ruffled Mayi's short hair, making her once neat hair a mess.
"You brat, you've got quite the nerve. Once you're better, we'll have a go at it."
"I couldn't have gotten it."
The two sisters smiled at each other.
"Oh, right." Maki's smile faded, and she said seriously, "Gojo-sensei called us to the conference room. It seems... there's news about that 'Night Bat'."
……
Conference room of the higher vocational college.
A sense of unease permeated the air.
Yuji Itadori sat in the corner, mechanically chewing a rice ball. His eyes were still red, but the previous confusion was gone, replaced by a fierce determination.
Kugizaki Nobara sat on the table, holding a new gauze pad in her hand, wrapping it around her hammer in circles. She was working hard, making the gauze sizzle, as if she were holding a noose around the neck.
When they saw Maki walking in with Maki's help, everyone looked up.
"How are you feeling?" Gojo Satoru sat in the main seat, his legs propped up on the table, twirling a pen in his hand. His tone sounded relaxed, but there was no smile in his azure eyes beneath the eyepatch.
"I won't die." Mayi pushed Maki's hand away, pulled out a chair and sat down, casually patting the air next to her. "I heard they found that winged guy?"
"Yeah, I guess so." Gojo Satoru pointed to the large screen on the wall.
On the map, a red dot at Yokohama Port is flashing wildly.
"That's the backup power plant at Yokohama Port," Iji explained from the side, his voice still trembling slightly, holding a stack of reports. "According to 'Window's' emergency report, a large-scale power outage occurred there late last night. Furthermore, surveillance footage captured a large number of bats appearing."
Ijichi retrieved a surveillance video.
The image is blurry, only in black and white.
Hanging atop that massive high-voltage power tower was a huge, dark shadow. Its wingspan was a full ten meters, and it was surrounded by countless small night bats. It was perched on the tower, blue arcs of electricity leaping across its body, yet they remained unharmed.
"A perfect match." Ijichi wiped his sweat. "Whether it's the size, appearance, or the energy reaction we collected before, it's exactly the same as the 'Night Bat General' that attacked the college."
"What is he doing? Healing?" Yuta Otsuki stood in front of the screen and calmly analyzed, "It was injured by Mayi last time, and we haven't heard from it for quite a while. Could the Shadow Legion be able to restore its power by absorbing electrical energy?"
"Then what are we waiting for?"
Kugizaki suddenly jumped off the table, slamming the hammer heavily on the ground. "Perfect timing! I've got a bellyful of anger with nowhere to vent! I'm going to smash this to pieces!"
"I'm going too." Itajō swallowed the last bite of rice and stood up. He patted the crumbs off his hands, his eyes chillingly cold. "Since we still haven't made any progress on Fukuro, let's weaken the enemy's strength first. I've wanted to beat that winged guy up for ages."
"You seem quite energetic." Gojo Satoru nodded in satisfaction. "But this time, I won't be going. I need to stay here and figure out how to peel that mask off Megumi's face. Also, I need to keep an eye on Ryouso to prevent him from sneaking in."
He looked at Maki and Otsuko.
"This operation will be led by Maki and Yuta. Yuujin and Nobara, you will be the assault team."
Gojo Satoru's gaze finally settled on Mai.
"Mai, you've just been through a major battle, why don't you stay here this time? Someone needs to keep an eye on things here."
"no."
Zhenyi refused very decisively.
"It's not that I don't trust you all. I have experience dealing with shadows, I'll be fine." Mai looked at Gojo Satoru, "Without me, it would be very difficult for you to completely kill those shadows."
"But your body..."
"I know what I'm doing," May interrupted Gojo Satoru. "If you won't let me go, I'll just ride my bike there myself."
Gojo Satoru looked into Mayi's determined eyes, then at the "blank" space beside her, remained silent for a few seconds, and finally shrugged helplessly.
"Alright, alright, I really can't handle you rebellious students. But one thing: if you can't hold on any longer, retreat immediately. That's an order."
"yes!"
Everyone responded in unison and began packing their gear to prepare for departure.
Just then, December, which had been floating in front of the map, suddenly spoke. He remembered that the Shadow Legion did not have a means of regenerating by absorbing electrical energy.
Something's not right.
Zhenyi paused upon hearing this, and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong?"
"That guy... he's too flashy." December pointed at the dark figure on the screen, his brow furrowed, his face almost touching the screen. "Last time at the vocational high school, when he fled in panic, he didn't even dare to look back. How could such a cowardly guy make such a big show of himself at a power plant? Does he want everyone to know where he is?"
Zhenyi frowned.
"And..." December pointed at the dark figure, "I don't think they can absorb electrical energy to regenerate themselves. Look at his eyes. Although they are flashing red, they are a bit too mechanical."
"You mean, this might be a fake?" Zhenyi's heart skipped a beat.
"Very likely. The real mask's owner should be hiding in a safer place." December turned around, looking at the students with high morale. "If this really is a trap, then Lu Suo's purpose is definitely not just to deplete our fighting strength."
Zhenyi nodded and suddenly stood up.
"etc."
Her voice wasn't loud, but it was exceptionally clear in the quiet conference room.
Everyone stopped and turned to look at her.
"Shuo said something's not right." Zhenyi's gaze swept over everyone. "That bat was scared after being beaten last time, it doesn't dare to show itself so quickly. That one hanging on the power tower is probably just bait."
"A decoy?" Maki frowned. "You mean, it's fake?"
"It's not necessarily fake; there's a good chance it's not." Zhenyi pointed to the fluctuating energy readings on the screen. "The real Nightbat General is much more cunning than this."
A brief silence fell over the meeting room.
Huzhang clenched his fist, his nails digging deep into his flesh.
"Whether it's true or false, I don't care."
Huzhang raised his head, his eyes showing no sign of backing down.
"Anything that Lu Suo releases, I'll smash it! If it's a trap, I'll crush it too!"
The boy's anger had been suppressed to the extreme. Now, even if there were mountains of knives and seas of fire in front of him, he would jump down without hesitation.
Zhenyi looked at Huzhang and sighed inwardly. She knew she couldn't dissuade him; Huzhang desperately needed an outlet. If she didn't let him go, he might go crazy.
"All right."
Zhenyi turned to look at the first day of December, a hint of helplessness but determination flashing in her eyes.
"In that case, let's go crazy with them. If it's a trap, it'll be much safer with us around."
December 1st smiled, a cold glint flashing in his clear eyes.
"Let's go then."
He floated to Zhenyi's side and stood beside her.
"Let's go see what 'surprise' Lu Suo has prepared for us this time."
