American homeless people, surviving in the city

Chapter 28 Street Interviews with YouTubers

As soon as Lynch stepped out of the alley, a stylish young white man holding a selfie stick quickly approached him.

At first, Lin Qi thought it was just a passerby walking in his direction, so he didn't pay much attention to it.

Unexpectedly, the young white man walked straight towards Lynch and blocked his way.

"You are...?" Lin Qi asked, somewhat puzzled.

"Hello!" The young man greeted them warmly and came closer, while simultaneously taking pictures of their conversation with a selfie stick, without immediately introducing himself.

Lin Qi calmly took two steps back, then coldly pressed on, "Who are you?"

When you're on the street, you have to be careful, because you never know what kind of stranger you might encounter.

Fortunately, when confronted with Lynch's questioning, the white guy seemed to realize his behavior was inappropriate and took two steps back, though his attitude remained enthusiastic.

"Hello! Would you like to introduce yourself? I'm Lucas, currently doing an outdoor live stream on YouTube. Would you like to say hello to my 40 followers?"

Oh, so she's an internet celebrity...

Lin Qi lowered his guard slightly, but he was still somewhat puzzled:

"Oh...why are you looking for me?"

The white guy, Lucas, flashed a bright white smile, revealing an infectious and friendly grin.

"Didn't you know? Your heroic battle against the swarm of rats in the alley was witnessed by thousands of viewers in my live stream!"

"We saw it all! You used that slingshot, like 'Eagle Eye,' and killed that nasty big rat with just one shot! That was so cool!"

Before Lin Qi could react, he put his arm around Lin Qi's shoulder and used another phone to show him the exciting scene in the live broadcast room.

On the live stream screen, Lynch was seen with Lucas's arm around his shoulder, sporting an awkward smile, while backstage, countless comments flooded the screen like a tidal wave:

"That's so cool! He's a million times cooler than those idiots who just walk into school and shoot randomly!"

"Can anyone tell me how he did that?"

"LMAO"

"Sad Frog Screaming Emoji.gif"

"Is he from the University of Tokyo? Are those precision-guided bullets imbued with some kind of 'true energy'?"

Looking at these comments, Lin Qi felt both amused and embarrassed.

Next time, I need to be more discreet...

Fortunately, there was nothing to criticize about what he did this time, so he felt no unease even though he was seen by others.

Since he had already been filmed, Lynch had no choice but to stand confidently in front of the camera and greet the viewers in Lucas's live stream:

"Uh, hello everyone, my name is Lin Qi."

He then looked at Lucas: "Alright, I'm done introducing myself. Can you leave now?"

"Don't be in such a hurry!" Lucas grabbed Lynch's hand. "Could you please tell my viewers how you mastered this superb slingshot skill? And why did you decide to come here to rid the people of this pest? As far as I know, the residents here have been suffering from a rat infestation, but the government has never taken any action to control it."

"If you're willing to give a proper introduction, you might become the next internet celebrity!"

"Sorry, I'm not interested."

Lynch waved his hand dismissively and turned to walk around Lucas and leave.

What a joke! So what if he becomes an internet celebrity? He's a homeless person. Forget about having a computer and webcam for live streaming, he doesn't even have a place to charge his phone or pay exorbitant data charges!

We can't just sit in McDonald's or Starbucks every day and stream live online, can we?

Therefore, Lynch had absolutely no interest in Lucas's proposal.

Upon hearing Lin Qi's cold rejection, the live stream chat exploded with lines of comments:

"Ugh, what cold-hearted Asians."

"But that's what makes it cool, it has the air of a master I've always imagined."

"Perhaps they are in a hurry to hunt down more nasty rats, so the streamer should stop bothering them."

"Upon closer inspection, this guy is kind of handsome, I'm interested!"

Seeing the live stream's popularity soaring while Lin Qi remained unmoved, Lucas grew impatient and couldn't resist throwing out more bait:

"If you'd like to be interviewed by me, I'll give you two hundred dollars!"

Without hesitation, Lynch turned around and took Lucas's hand:

"make a deal!"

Who wouldn't want to make money that they can get just by talking?

Seeing Lynch's attitude instantly reverse 180 degrees, Lucas's lips twitched involuntarily, but he quickly adjusted his mindset and began the street interview:

"Let's get started! I'm 'Lucas by the Sea,' dedicated to exploring the strange and unusual things happening on the streets of Seattle, and giving a voice to those who can't speak for themselves. If you're watching this live stream and haven't followed me yet, please click the button next to my name—it really means a lot to me!"

"Alright, let's focus on this handsome guy I stumbled upon on the street. As everyone in the live stream saw, you killed several rats in a flash, it was as cool as something out of a movie. How did you do that?"

"Ah...it's mainly thanks to him, isn't it?" Lynch reached out and showed Lucas the slingshot in his hand.

This slingshot skill was indeed something Lin Qi had been honing, but the reason he was able to do such exaggerated things was mainly because of his good feel for it.

"Oh! This is the weapon that just won so many battles! Did you learn slingshot techniques from a young age?"

"Well, maybe it's because my family were hunters, and I learned it from a young age."

Since he didn't know anything about this body's past, Lin Qi was too lazy to explain to the passing internet celebrity, so he simply went along with what he was saying.

The two exchanged a brief but pleasant conversation. Following Lucas's question, Lynch quickly portrayed himself as a cool, handsome, and philanthropic folk expert who had stepped in to help when he saw the rat infestation.

Lin Qi understood that simply killing a few rats with a slingshot would not solve the rat infestation problem in the area.

Seeing that neither Lucas nor the viewers in the live stream had any objections, he obediently shut up and didn't say anything more.

The live stream's popularity soared until Lynch, under Lucas's arrangement, hit a soda can dozens of meters away with a slingshot, bringing the atmosphere to a climax.

Lucas let out a standard, exaggerated laugh, like an American variety show host, praising Lynch loudly while giving him a big, enthusiastic hug.

"That was fantastic! My good brother, your marksmanship is simply legendary!"

"Alright, friends, that's enough of our brief street interview. It looks like our friend Lynch has other things to do."

After saying goodbye in the live broadcast room, Lucas temporarily put aside his filming equipment, walked back to Lynch, and shook hands with him.

"The live stream went really well! Here's your agreed-upon payment. Do you want cash or bank transfer?"

"...Cash is fine." Lin Qi hadn't quite figured out America's electronic payment methods yet.

Lucas readily nodded, took out a few bills from his wallet, and stuffed them into Lynch's hand.

The few bills in my hand were exactly $200.

Looking at the banknotes in his hand, Lin Qi was filled with emotion.

He earned so much money just by saying a few words in front of the camera?

Is making money really that easy?

Seeing Lynch's lips curl slightly upward, Lucas pressed his advantage and asked:

"So, Mr. Lin Qi, do you have any ideas about collaborating with me on a few more live broadcasts?"

"The audience's response to this live stream was quite enthusiastic; everyone is very interested in street performers like you! Perhaps next time, you could demonstrate for me how you take down a mouse with a single bullet?"

"Hmm... let's talk about it later, I haven't decided yet."

Lynch was quite tempted by the offer of $200 for each appearance on camera, but considering that his next job was still undecided, he couldn't give Lucas a definite answer.

Seeing this, Lucas stopped pressuring the matter.

After exchanging contact information and agreeing to keep in touch if they had any ideas, Lucas continued his street livestream as he walked away into the distance.

Lynch also snapped out of his daze after this interlude.

It's not impossible to follow the YouTube mainstream influencer path, but it's definitely not the right time yet.
