Chapter 11 Feather Ballet and Crisis
The trio swept into the classroom like a gust of wind, Hermione carrying a large stack of books. When she saw the dark-haired boy already sitting by the window...
Ron couldn't help but mutter, "Oh, Merlin's stinky socks. Even Snape probably doesn't care as much about studying as he does."
Lucian ignored this. He was drawing a diagram with a pen of the cane-waving gesture that Professor Flitwick would be teaching that day, but he wasn't drawing a simple trajectory; he was drawing a three-dimensional magical vector image.
"What are you drawing?" Hermione leaned closer, staring at the dizzying array of lines and arrows. "This isn't from the textbook at all."
"The textbook teaches how to do it, I draw it to show why," Lucian replied calmly. "For example, with this levitation spell, the trembling at the end of the hand gesture isn't for aesthetics, but to create a miniature upward vortex."
Hermione opened her mouth, seemingly wanting to refute "that's not what the book says," but then felt that there was a strange sense of truth to it.
……
The school bell rang.
The short Professor Flitwick stood atop the stack of books, but his disheveled white hair trembled with his passionate speech, making him appear even taller than Hagrid.
At least at the level of knowledge.
"Alright, little wizards! Today we will step into the threshold of miracles,"
Levitation Spell!
Professor Flitwick's wand traced a textbook, precise path: "Remember this subtle wrist movement! A flick, a twitch! The emphasis of the spell is on the second syllable."
Ungardim, Leviosa!
The classroom was immediately filled with all sorts of chaotic waving gestures and strange chanting.
Simon Finnigan's feathers caught fire, emitting a burnt smell.
Ron waved his old wand like a windmill, nearly gouging out Harry's eyes.
"Ungardim Leviosa!" he roared.
"Stop, stop, stop!" Hermione couldn't stand it anymore. "You're wrong! It's Le-Vi-O-Sa, not Le-Vi-O-Sa!"
"Fine, Miss Perfection," Ron said angrily, throwing his wand down. "Since you know so much, why don't you show us how your feather flies?"
Hermione raised her chin and waved her wand: "Wingardim Leviosa!"
The pure white feather trembled and floated up, hovering four feet above the table.
"Oh! Absolutely brilliant!" Professor Flitwick's high-pitched voice pierced through the noise. "Look, Miss Granger has succeeded! Five points added to Gryffindor!"
Hermione basked in admiration, but her eyes involuntarily drifted toward Lucien beside her.
Lucian simply closed his notebook calmly.
In his eyes, Hermione's spellcasting was like picking up ants with chopsticks.
Although it was clamped up, the ant was still screaming in agony. It was purely relying on brute force to hold on.
"Too much force," Lucien commented softly.
"What?" Hermione frowned.
"Would you like to see what real levitation is like?"
Lucian did not pick up the wand on the table.
He simply extended his right hand, his fingers tracing a light line in the air, as if plucking a string.
No incantation was chanted.
But the feather in front of him suddenly came to life. It gracefully flipped over and began to dance in the air to the rhythm of Lucien's fingers.
It circled around, making complex figure-eight turns, even simulating the undulating motion of birds gliding.
The noise from the classroom gradually subsided.
Everyone stared wide-eyed at this unbelievable scene.
Even more astonishingly, as Lucian's finger movements intensified, the feathers on the desks of the surrounding students seemed to be summoned, and they all floated up, joining this aerial ballet.
Dozens of feathers swirled around the classroom, like a flock of white birds, revolving around the black-haired boy.
Lucien was an elegant conductor, sitting calmly in the center of the stage, directing an invisible magic.
"This...this..."
Professor Flitwick was so excited he almost fell off his books. As a former dueling champion, he knew all too well the astonishing talent and skill this represented.
"Silent casting! No wand channeling! And it's mass control!" the professor screamed. "Merlin's beard! This isn't just a levitation charm; it's perfect control over the flow of magic!"
"Smack."
Lucian snapped his fingers.
All the feathers instantly lost their support and drifted back onto their respective owners' desks like snowflakes. Only his feather remained, gently tucked back into his laptop.
The classroom was deathly silent.
Until Ron's wand fell to the ground with a crisp sound.
Lucian reopened his notebook and said to the stunned Hermione, "See? As long as you go with the flow, the feather will want to fly on its own. You don't need to force it."
Hermione looked at him, her eyes filled with shock, resentment, and a flame of admiration.
"Ravenclaw, add... add twenty points!" Professor Flitwick wiped away tears of excitement. "For this artistic demonstration of magic!"
……
In the hallway after class,
"Hey, look at that feather magician!"
"I heard he can make people float without even using a wand!"
Lucien didn't care at all. He was busy going to the library.
But before he could even step out of the corridor, he was stopped by two people.
It was George and Fred Weasley. The twins were looking at him with a sly grin.
"Hey, conductor."
"That move was so cool."
"We have a business idea we'd like to discuss with you."
"About how to make Filch's cat 'float' and dance."
Lucian stopped and looked at the future kings of mischief.
The souls of these two brothers are filled with leaping golden sparks and pure creativity.
"I'm not interested in that cat," Lucien said casually. "However, I've seen the automatic quill you made. The rune circuitry is quite interesting."
The twins exchanged a glance and saw the surprise in each other's eyes.
"The concept of the magic rune loop is ingenious, but the handling of 'magic flow' is a disaster. You're using a one-way transmission, so the logic will break down after a while, and it'll start spelling words randomly, right?"
The twins' smiles froze.
"How did you know?" they asked in unison.
Lucian took a piece of parchment from his pocket, on which was drawn a modified rune array, and handed it to them.
"Replace the core with this structure. You're welcome."
After saying that, he walked past the stunned twins and continued toward the library.
A gasp came from behind from the twins:
"By Merlin, George, this is a genius!"
"No, Fred, this is our god! Our King Galleon god!"
Lucien chuckled. In this world full of mediocre people, occasionally giving a hint to a truly intelligent person can indeed bring some pleasure.
In the shadows at the end of the corridor, Professor Quirrell, wrapped in a scarf that reeked of garlic, stared at Lucien's back.
On the back of his head, the parasitic soul let out a hoarse whisper:
"Pay attention to him...that boy...his soul...is very special..."
