Wasteland Lord: Starting from Thirty Days to Live
Chapter 29 Underground Caves
"Don't worry about where I got it from, that's not important. Just tell me if you can do it or not," Vittorio asked decisively.
Ethan hesitated for a moment, because he couldn't really guarantee that he could do it.
But with such a rare opportunity in front of him, should he say that he doesn't have the ability?
So Ethan gritted his teeth and promised, "Okay, but you need to give me some time to familiarize myself with the blueprints."
"Three days, is that enough?"
"Can."
Vittorio watched Ethan staring at the blueprints with shining eyes and trembling with excitement, and thought that this person might actually be capable.
Just as the two were negotiating, there was a knock on the door, and a messenger stood outside.
"Lord Vittorio, something has happened."
After Vittorio left the room, he learned from the messenger what the so-called "situation" was all about.
"You mean a huge hole suddenly appeared in the underground prison?" Vittorio asked, somewhat incredulously.
"Yes, sir. The damage must have appeared last night, but everyone was fighting outside the castle last night, so no one noticed the sound of the ground collapsing."
"Yesterday, because some people were bitten, and we were worried about them getting infected, Grandma Masa specifically asked us to set aside a place for them to stay alone."
"But the castle was full, and there was no place to isolate people, so we thought of the abandoned underground prison."
"But as soon as our men got there, they discovered a large hole in one of the cells, and it was pitch black down there, with no idea where it led."
Things just kept happening one after another, and there were all sorts of unexpected situations that I hadn't even considered. Ever since I came into this world, I've really become a busybody.
Leo rubbed his temples with a slight chuckle.
"What's the situation now? Has Edmund already gone?"
"Yes, Lord Edmund is already there observing, and now he is waiting for you."
Without further ado, Vittorio followed the messenger, passing a long, spiraling staircase leading down to the underground.
This underground prison was dark and gloomy, never seeing sunlight, and filled with a putrid and damp smell. Dust floated in the air, making it an extremely harsh environment.
Vittorio crossed the empty underground cell and arrived at the room with the large hole they had mentioned.
Edmund, Isolio, and Irene are all here.
After a brief greeting to the three men, Edmund carefully examined the large hole.
The large hole was sunken downwards, which did not seem to be caused by human damage, but rather by ground subsidence and collapse.
A cold wind constantly blew out of the cave, and if you listened carefully, you could hear the sound of flowing water.
The cave was pitch black, and it was impossible to see what was inside.
Edmund shook his head.
"We can rule out human intervention; this hole was formed naturally. It could be due to aging, or it could be caused by the vibrations from yesterday's intense fighting."
"Let's just seal it off, it's pitch black," Eileen said.
But Vittorio didn't think so.
"We don't know what's down there, it's always a potential problem. What if it happens to be a monster's lair? They could just launch a pincer attack from both inside and outside and we're finished."
"Shall we go down and take a look?" Isolde suggested.
Vittorio nodded.
"But who will go down?" Eileen asked.
Vittorio, reflecting on his significant increase in strength, suddenly felt a desire to verify it.
To put it bluntly, aside from that one leap, he had no real combat experience.
For any combatant, combat experience is a crucial component of their combat effectiveness.
"What do you think of me going? Who's in favor, and who's against?" Vittorio asked.
Vittorio thought that with the prestige he had built up over the past two months, these people would surely try to dissuade him.
However, when Vittorio finished speaking, he found that no one came out to persuade him.
Eileen had even taken out a long rope.
"Here you go, to keep you from getting lost."
Vittorio opened his mouth wide, revealing an exaggerated expression of injury, as if he were contemplating the meaning of life.
"You know what? I used to think that it was easy to bridge the gap between people, but now I think I might have been wrong. I never imagined that you, my closest friends, could be so cold-blooded."
Isolde shrugged: "I can't stop someone from challenging themselves, it's definitely not a good habit."
Vittorio saw the three of them standing to the side with their arms crossed, looking on with an expression of anticipation.
"Good heavens, is there some level 3 magical beast down there with its mouth agape, waiting for me to come down and deliver it to its doom? Sigh, poor Vittorio, no one is truly kind to him."
In the end, Eileen gave a faint smile.
"You don't need to exaggerate like that. I think Warcraft probably doesn't like eating meat that's been sprayed with perfume. I'll come down with you."
A relaxed and pleasant atmosphere spread among the four people.
However, none of them felt there was any danger down there.
The river bend is crisscrossed by waterways and has many canyons. Wild caves can often be found in the valleys. It is quite normal for someone to say that there is an undiscovered cave just below the River Bend Fort.
In short, the first rope was quickly tied around Vittorio, and he was lowered down.
Then a second rope was tied around Eileen's body.
Eileen continued to ask questions.
"How's it going now?"
"Good, no bad breath from any monsters so far. Looks like I haven't ended up in their mouths yet."
"Still have the energy to joke? Good, looks like you're alright," Isolde said.
So Eileen was the second one to be released.
Isolde and Edmund stood above, each holding a rope, ready to pull someone out at any moment.
Below the cave, Vittorio's feet had already landed on solid ground.
Eileen landed beside him shortly afterward, chanting a prayer and summoning holy light to illuminate the space below.
Just as Vittorio and his companions had guessed, there was indeed an undiscovered cave below. In the middle of the cave, a small stream of underground water was flowing slowly, with natural riverbanks on either side for footholds.
This cave is not an enclosed space, but a long, seemingly endless road stretches out in front of you, as if it were the outlet of this river, but you don't know where it leads.
"There are no monsters or anything strange here. It looks like an ordinary cave. The rope is still a ways off. Shall we continue?"
Eileen thought about it and figured that since there was a rope, nothing bad would happen, so she simply nodded in agreement.
So one man held a sword as a watchful eye, while the other used holy light to clear a path, and the two walked deeper into the area.
Meanwhile, Isolde and Edmund, who remained above, received news that the two were about to advance and waited quietly.
After about three minutes, the rope can still be pulled outwards.
After about five minutes, the rope became taut, as if the people below had reached the rope's limit.
"The rope isn't long enough, should we come back?" Isolde muttered to herself.
However, just as she was leisurely holding the rope, the taut rope suddenly loosened in the next second, causing Isolde, who was pulling hard on the rope, to lean slightly backward.
Isolde realized something was wrong and pulled back sharply, but she couldn't feel any weight on the other end of the rope. By the time she had pulled all the rope back into her hand, the person on the other end of the rope had vanished.
Isolde turned her gaze to Edmund, hoping he would say something, but instead saw Edmund also frowning and pulling the rope with all his might.
Finally, Edmund pulled back an empty rope.
Isolde tried to speak loudly into the underground cavern, but only hollow echoes answered her, with no sound from Vittorio and the other person.
In other words, in that instant, the two of them vanished into thin air from the other end of the rope!
The two people left on the ground exchanged a glance, both seeing hesitation in each other's eyes.
