Chapter 80: What you learn is all your own.
Adventurers' Guild.
Orion's office.
Having just finished lunch, Orion asked a servant to make him a cup of black tea, which he slowly savored.
This is not Yawan black tea, but just ordinary tea of slightly better quality.
Yawan black tea is already considered a luxury item in terms of price, and the excessive consumption last time has instilled in the old man the excellent quality of thrift.
He took a small sip of tea, put down the teacup, picked up a pair of small, round glasses with a long chain at the end and put them on his nose, then picked up the documents in his hand.
I plan to work a little longer during my lunch break.
Just then, a slight noise suddenly sounded in front of him.
Orion instinctively looked up, only to see a plume of smoke slowly dissipate, revealing a figure inside.
The stealth walk?
Although Orion was just an ordinary person, he was well-informed from his time in the Adventurers' Guild and recognized the spell.
But he didn't recognize the person in front of him.
This was a face he didn't recognize at all. Although Orion was old, his memory was still pretty good, and he was certain he had never seen this face before.
Although the Guild Hall Manager seems to have a lot of power, it is only limited to those internal staff.
All matters concerning adventurers are decided by the Guild Master and the Council, or rather, by Vanessa.
Therefore, there were no guards at the entrance to his office.
Just as Orion was about to raise his voice to warn others, the stranger in front of him suddenly transformed into a handsome young man.
"Rhodes?" Orion asked, a hint of doubt in his voice.
"It's me, Mr. Orion." He handed over a paper bag, saying, "I felt bad for drinking so much of your Yawan black tea last time, so I brought you some pastries from the bakery on the east side of town as an apology."
Although Cassandra seems indifferent to the bet, she might send someone to cause trouble for him if his actions over the past two days are exposed.
Avoiding the pervasive infiltration of these "black hands" is indeed quite troublesome.
Orion took the oil paper bag, opened it, and a sweet, hot aroma wafted out.
That's really Rhodes.
The old man put down the pastries and asked, somewhat puzzled, "Why didn't you just come in? Why did you have to disguise yourself and use stealth techniques?"
Rhodes suddenly chuckled and asked, half-jokingly, "I've had some unpleasantness with 'Black Hand' lately. By the way, you're not a member of 'Black Hand,' are you?"
Orion paused for a moment, then smiled and slowly shook his head: "I don't think there's anything about an ordinary old man in charge of the guild hall that would be worth 'Black Hand' recruiting."
Rhodes stared at Orion's expression, and seeing nothing unusual, suddenly dropped another bombshell: "Sam is Cassandra's henchman."
"Oh?" Orion was somewhat shocked, but after a moment he gradually regained his composure: "Sam started out as a financial officer for the mayor, but through hard work and his unique way of doing things, he slowly climbed higher and higher."
"So, what do you want?"
Orion threw the question back at Rhodes, expressing his dislike for the "Black Hand" but also his lack of confidence in his ability to help him.
"I need intelligence: information on the types, numbers, and combat capabilities of all the alien races surrounding Phil Town."
Due to the restrictions of the devil's contract, he could not reveal information about the betting game, and consequently, he could not reveal any information about the alien alliance's attack.
All he could think of was to gather relevant intelligence, firstly to select targets for the hunts these days, and secondly to have a clear understanding of the ensuing war.
Orion only paused for a moment to think.
"That's not difficult. The Adventurers' Guild usually has various intelligence gathering commissions, and the guild makes backups every time."
As he spoke, he got up and walked towards the back of the office.
Deep inside the office, neatly arranged filing cabinets were stacked, and the documents inside were organized in an orderly manner, each with a label, whether thick or thin.
Orion quickly produced a thick file and handed it to Rhodes.
"Here, this is the latest intelligence. You'll have to return it after you've read it."
"If there is any damage, you need to draft an exact copy again."
Rhodes took the document and felt its weight in his hand.
"Thank you, Mr. Orion."
"It's nothing. I've lived in Phil all my life, and I won't hesitate to help the town in these small ways."
Orion waved his hand and said, "I'll keep your coming to see me a secret. You're fundamentally different from those adventurers." He paused and then added:
"Do whatever you want while you're young."
Rhodes thanked him again.
They carefully left through the back door with the documents in hand.
......
They sneaked back to the hotel and saw Avira sitting at the dining table, elegantly eating lunch, while Paril was sitting on the bed, only her back visible.
"What's wrong?"
Avira chuckled, a hint of smugness in her voice:
"The little brat was all smiles when he saw someone come home, but when he realized it was just him and not me, he got a couple of sarcastic remarks and started sulking."
Upon hearing Rhodes' voice, Paril jumped out of bed and ran over quickly.
A look of intense joy spread across her delicate, oval face, and her clear, azure eyes stared intently into Rhodes's.
"Rhodes, Rhodes, why are you only just getting back?"
"I went out to take care of some errands." Rhodes put the intelligence aside. "Why aren't you eating?"
"I'll wait for you to eat together." Paril glared at Avira fiercely as she spoke.
It must have been really tough for Paril to give up eating.
Rhodes sat down and opened the lunch for three that Avira had brought back.
Paril kept asking what he had done on his trip and whether he had encountered any danger, and Rhodes patiently answered her questions one by one.
After finishing her meal, she suddenly stood up boastfully, her hands radiating magic: "While you were away, I learned two more spells!"
"What kind of magic?" Rhodes was already used to her learning speed.
"Lengthening Technique and Giant Transformation Technique!"
I've heard of the Giant Growth spell; it's a magic that can change the size of creatures or objects.
But what is lengthening surgery?
Extend what?
Rhodes searched his entire memory but had never heard of this strange spell's name before.
He looked at Avira, but the well-informed elf shook her head, indicating that she had never heard of her.
"What are the specific effects of the spell?"
Paril explained earnestly, "It can extend the duration of another spell."
"For example, your fire arrow has a limited duration, but I can extend its duration."
Avira shook her head: "I have never heard of any spell that can prolong the duration of another spell. Warlocks do have a similar talent, but that is definitely not a spell."
Rhodes' focus was entirely different: "Based on the description of the effect, 'delay spell' is a more accurate description than 'extend spell.'"
"Paril, how did you learn this spell?"
Paris shook her head blankly: "I don't know. You always say that everything is in books, and once you learn it, it's all yours."
