Three Kingdoms: Conquer Wu from Maicheng with Cavalry and Swords, Don't Fall Behind
Chapter 83: Loss of Reputation
The night was quiet, romantic, misty, and faint.
"Hmm?" Zhou Cang looked around warily, feeling uneasy as if something strange had sneaked in.
The recent battles have taken a toll on him, leaving him with numerous new injuries and causing him great suffering.
Zhou Cang once thought he would not survive, so he clung to life, hoping that the lord would return and see him one last time.
Later, for some reason, he would always inexplicably recover. Yes, really inexplicably, I just couldn't figure it out.
Even if an ordinary person survives such a severe injury, they would be bedridden for three to five months, barely clinging to life.
Zhou Cang had just pulled through when he felt like he could go back to the battlefield, and something strange and wrong about him was running through his body.
"I must report this matter to you, my lord, otherwise I will not feel at ease. If there are any hidden dangers, you will help me resolve them."
He strode forward, intending to sneak over, but found that the lord was not there, leaving him puzzled.
"Where could you possibly be going so late, my lord?"
After making a few inquiries, Zhou Cang angrily found Wang Fu, only to find him drinking tea. Enraged, he loudly questioned him:
"Guoshan, where is the Lord?"
Wang Fu suddenly felt guilty and weakly replied:
"My lord has gone to scout the enemy's situation... I know what you want to say, but I am outnumbered and powerless, how can I stop him?"
Zhou Cang glared fiercely at Wang Fu and said menacingly:
"What use are you, a civil official and a confidant of the ruler, who doesn't know how to remonstrate even to the death?!"
Wang Fu's face stiffened, and he apologized:
"These past few days, with the Lord back in charge, the situation in Maicheng has become increasingly clear. I've been so busy enjoying myself that I've completely forgotten my duties as a subject."
"He deserves to be hit!"
Wang Fu slapped himself twice, the slaps being particularly loud.
The scout hurriedly spurred his horse: "Report! There's a disturbance within the Jiangdong camp; we don't know what their intentions are!"
Zhou Cang and Wang Fu exchanged a glance, both noticing the solemnity on each other's faces.
"Assemble the troops!"
"We will support you, my lord!"
The two men, one in front and one behind, were forced into a cold sweat. The Jiangdong army numbered at least twenty or thirty thousand. How could their lord, alone, possibly stand a chance?
"Wang Guoshan, if you, my lord, even harm a single hair on my head, I'll kill you!" Zhou Cang cursed as he put on his armor.
"I don't need you to lift a finger. If you can't return safely, I'll commit suicide!" Wang Fu grabbed his sword from the wall, tucked it into his waistband, and spoke with an air of arrogance.
A faint horn call echoed from the Jiangdong camp. Then, the rallying cry of Maicheng erupted, soaring through the heavens.
The two arrived at the city wall and assembled. Guan Yinping, sword drawn, led her elite troops, arrayed in a wedge formation outside the city. She surveyed the entire army, pointing her long sword eastward: "Move out!"
The banner bearing the character "关" (Guan) fluttered in the wind, followed closely by thousands of troops, marching majestically towards the battlefield.
Before they even reached the Jiangdong camp, they saw a dark figure, five or six zhang tall, rushing straight towards them.
"What is this? A small mountain with long legs?" Wang Fu was horrified, his mind completely blank.
"Alert!" Guan Yinping shouted, and the Han army stopped in their tracks, as if facing a formidable enemy.
"It's you, my lord!!" Zhou Cang shouted excitedly, his blood boiling with joy, even more so than when his wife gave birth.
Qi Ye had the best view and spotted the reinforcements early on, feeling an indescribable sense of gratitude. As players, we're usually the ones supporting others; how could we possibly receive support repeatedly?
This game is pretty good.
Qi Ye remembered playing a game before where climbing a hill was like an old lady getting on a kang (a heated brick bed), choppy and jerky. Now, the Martial Saint is carrying a high platform and moving swiftly, it's so exhilarating!
The Martial Saint stopped, supporting the high platform with one hand, and asked with a serious expression, "Why have you come? Who will defend Maicheng?"
Guan Yinping raised her beautiful eyes and said solemnly, "I was worried about my father's safety and sent troops without authorization. Please punish me, General!"
The Martial Saint said calmly, "Never mind."
Recalling the commotion, Wang Fu couldn't help but ask, "My lord, weren't we supposed to be composed? Why did the drums and horns sound, startling the enemy camp?"
The Martial Saint recalled the thrilling infiltration, his eyes lingering in reminiscence:
"Sneaking to rescue people is far more captivating than direct combat. With my superior stealth skills, I probed the Wu camp and finally found Ji Bo, who was tied up on a high platform. I didn't have time to think about anything else and just stole him out."
"But I never expected that those scoundrels from Jiangdong would discover the commotion and be determined to kill me and Uncle Ji. They could have easily pretended not to see anything, and everyone would have lived in peace..."
Wang Fu was taken aback, sensing the regret in the tone, but didn't react immediately. After a long while, he finally asked, "Where is Uncle Ji?"
The Martial Saint looked up and gestured, "It's up there."
Everyone looked up and saw a dark figure bound to a rack.
A drop of water hit Wang Fu's forehead. He looked up blankly, and another drop slid down his forehead and into his eye socket, stinging his eyelids.
"Did it suddenly start raining?"
Wang Fu subconsciously lowered his head and sniffed carefully. A hot, pungent smell rushed to his head. It was sticky, murky, and carried a man's warmth.
He was shocked. "Uncle Ji, are you scared out of your wits?!"
Yi Ji was gentle and refined, yet quick-witted. When he was sent as an envoy to Eastern Wu, he cleverly resolved a predicament by saying, "A bow and a rise are not a burden." He defused the sharp edges of the situation with a few words, demonstrating the integrity and quick thinking of a Confucian official.
He could remain calm even when facing a massive army and being attacked with swords and axes, but today he was trembling like a leaf, and his crotch was suddenly wet.
Yi Ji trembled and whispered, "My lord... put... put me down."
Wang Fu was shaken. What had happened in Wu Camp that made a renowned scholar from Jingzhou, famous throughout the enemy state, so fearful?
He knew the importance of reputation to a Confucian scholar and decided to keep Yi Ji's secret.
"Uncle Ji, you must take good care of yourself and never do anything rash. You have made a great sacrifice for the Han Dynasty."
The Martial Saint, having exhausted his strength, slammed his arm into the ground with a thud.
Zhou Cang's eyes widened: "This... must weigh at least 180 jin?!"
With everyone working together, they rescued Yi Ji. Yi Ji immediately collapsed onto Wang Fu, looking completely shaken.
Wang Fu tightened his grip on her arm, his heart aching even more: "Uncle Ji, you're safe now. Come back with me and enjoy your life. With Lord Jun here, you'll never have to suffer again!"
As Yi Ji recalled some terrible experience, his eyes rolled back and he fainted.
Wang Fu took off his cloak and covered Yi Ji's waist with it, shouting, "Come quickly, help Uncle Ji back!"
The soldiers acted in unison, stabilized the situation, and retreated towards Maicheng.
Zhou Cang spat twice into his palm, rubbing it until it was hot and pungent. He bent over, grabbed the leg of the table, and let out a low growl like thunder, his neck veins bulging.
The high platform took root and remained unmoved.
The Martial Saint asked in surprise, "What are you doing?"
Zhou Cang breathed a sigh of relief and chuckled, "My lord, I'll give it a try and take it back to use as firewood."
The Martial Saint found this reasonable, lifted the high platform with one hand, and moved with incredible speed:
"Back to the city!"
Zhou Cang was stunned, staring at the unbelievable scene. He then carefully examined his palm and had a strange feeling that the platform wasn't so heavy after all.
