Chapter 61 Interlude
A minor mishap?
Roland raised an eyebrow.
"We've discovered several adventurers lurking outside," the middle-aged man said calmly. "Right now, you're the only customer inside, so..."
Roland understood; someone was watching him.
It's not surprising; there are people like this everywhere. Taking risks is inherently risky and a waste of time, so it's much faster to steal someone else's harvest.
but……
"Are people this bold now?" Roland asked softly. "If I remember correctly, these kinds of people should be lurking in the shadows outside of town."
If you make a move inside Broken Rock Town, the first thing you'll see is guards patrolling. Although they mostly just go through the motions, they'll still do something if things get out of hand.
In addition, there are the True God Churches, where there are always a few idle fanatics wandering the streets, chanting that they want to fight evil and execute those wicked people who do evil.
The middle-aged man said calmly, "I don't know. They might be eyeing our shop, but please be careful when you leave."
Roland nodded.
He took a drawing from the other party and began to examine it.
That's a design blueprint for a brand new leather armor. Modifying the existing leather armor is not easy and requires a lot of time, so we'll first check the compatibility between the existing leather armor and the Lava Giant Lizard Scale Armor.
The result was quite good. The blacksmiths of the Mithril Corridor were able to significantly improve the fire resistance of the leather armor while retaining its original functions. The weight would increase considerably, but it was still within an acceptable range.
"Do you wish to take the leather armor with you?"
The middle-aged man asked, "If those little insects outside come for you, this leather armor will greatly enhance your combat power."
Roland nodded again.
Then he stepped outside.
It was nearly evening, but the clouds in the sky were extremely thick. The shopkeepers on the street lit kerosene lamps, and the dim yellow light barely illuminated the surroundings.
His gaze swept across the area and, sure enough, he saw several figures gathered together on the street, pretending to talk to each other, but their eyes kept glancing over here.
The moment his magical perception was activated, he already had a rough estimate in his mind.
He strode forward and deliberately ventured into a secluded alley.
As they reached the alley entrance, the people indeed moved.
"stop!"
The three men emerged from the shadows and blocked both ends of the alley.
The leader was a burly man carrying a chipped longsword. The other two were younger; one held a spear, and the other had already drawn a dagger halfway.
"Brother," the burly man grinned, "the landlady said you had a lot of good stuff on you. You just went in, so you should still have quite a bit left, right?"
Boss lady?
Roland seemed to be deep in thought.
He glanced at the people in front of him again.
The positioning is good, and there's some strategy involved, but...
"It's not too late to leave now," he said softly. "Her target isn't me, it's you."
The burly man paused for a moment, then burst out laughing: "You little brat, you're good for nothing, but you certainly know how to talk tough. Let me see what you've got in your pockets..."
Before he could finish speaking, Roland had already moved.
He didn't use a longsword, but wanted to see the effect of the javelin.
He drew the rune javelin with his right hand, feeling a familiar warmth in his hand, and the dwarven runes on the tip of the javelin gleamed with a dark red light under the dim lamplight.
The burly man's pupils contracted.
He had only heard from the woman that Roland's strength was "not that great," but he had never seen such a weapon before. The three-edged blood groove on the spearhead was so deep that it looked like it could scoop out a person's brains.
"superior!"
He let out a low growl, but took a step back himself.
Roland did not give them a chance.
The spear, accompanied by the sound of wind cutting through the air, arrived first from behind. He slightly turned his body, and the sharp spearhead grazed past his leather armor without leaving even a scratch.
He reached out and pulled, the powerful force causing the young man to stagger. Before he could regain his footing, he saw a cold light magnify before his eyes.
boom!
The butt of the gun struck the young man in the face, sending him flying backward. Blood spurted from his mouth as he lay on the ground groaning, with at least three ribs broken.
At this moment, another person's dagger was handed over from the side, aimed straight at Roland's armpit, the tip of the blade flashing green, clearly poisoned.
Roland didn't even look. He twirled the javelin in his hand, and the shaft smashed directly into Roland's arm.
click-
The sound of bones cracking rang out, and the man's scream had barely escaped when Roland kicked him, shoving him into a wooden crate in the corner, burying him completely inside.
The burly man's expression changed completely.
He knew he had been deceived, but there was no turning back now, so he might as well take a gamble.
The longsword slashed down head-on with considerable force and at a rather tricky angle.
Roland finally looked at him properly for the first time.
The javelin was raised and rubbed against the metal, sending up tiny sparks.
The burly man felt his palm go numb, and his already damaged longsword cracked open again.
Roland didn't give him a chance to strike a second time.
Dark red runes flashed as the spearhead pierced the burly man's shoulder and emerged from his back, bringing with it vivid red petals.
Penetrate.
The burly man trembled all over, his face pale. After the gun was pulled out, he covered his wound, but the blood seemed unstoppable, gushing out wildly.
Roland didn't look at him, but instead cast his gaze further into the distance, his eyes slightly narrowed.
It was the woman who lured him in.
Two guards in red robes were beside her, their eyes still streaked with tears, pointing in this direction and sobbing softly.
"It was them who forced me to disclose guests' private information, and also..."
Roland didn't want to listen to this nonsense. He walked up to her, his gaze sweeping over her face, a half-smile on his face.
The woman hurriedly gathered her snow-white arms and whispered, "Sir, do you think this person matches the wanted poster...?"
The matter is quite obvious.
This woman had most likely seen the wanted poster, recognized Roland, and then colluded with a few scoundrels she looked down on to cause trouble.
If these people succeed, she'll sit back and divide the spoils.
If Roland were to deal with these people, and the guards were to arrest him, he could not only earn a bounty but also seize the wealth of the people on the ground.
Unfortunately, the fact that Roland dares to show his face now means that he has already solved this problem.
This woman's information network wasn't as extensive as I'd imagined.
"Sir, Mr. Finn sends his regards."
A red-robed guard took the lead in greeting them, clearly having witnessed Roland deal with the three men; his tone was slightly respectful.
Finn.
Upon hearing the name, the woman's expression faltered slightly, then her face changed subtly.
She's lived in this small town for so long, how could she not know Finn's name?
But she clearly didn't receive any message...
boom--
Another guard kicked the woman to the ground and said with a sneer, "Falsifying someone's name is punishable by seven days in prison, or... two gold coins."
Roland watched quietly.
The woman's face turned pale. She seemed to have realized something, and her throat tightened: "Sir, our shop has been here for over ten years, please..."
Snapped! ! !
After a slap, the guard's tone turned fierce: "I now suspect your shop of harboring criminals. Shut it down immediately!"
The woman lowered her head and remained silent.
She knew that the situation had completely changed.
