Super God Academy: Kabuto

Chapter 44 The Silent Transformation

Lin Yu silently watched everything that happened at Yunshan Base through He Xi's "broadcast." He watched how ordinary soldiers used their lives to buy time, how the young soldier made his final choice, and the painful price paid behind the victory.

He remained silent for a long time.

"Perhaps..." he murmured to himself, a flicker of emotion he had never shown before flashing in his eyes, "I should do something."

As if sensing the change in his emotions, the Kabuto insect device silently emerged from the void and gently landed on his shoulder. Its single horn shimmered slightly, and a clear thought entered Lin Yu's mind:

Follow the will of your heart and do what you ought to do.

He Xi stood quietly to the side, without saying a word. Looking at the "child" beside her who had always acted as an observer, she keenly sensed that something firm and profound seemed to be sprouting from the depths of his heart.

He has changed; that detached sense of alienation is loosening. Yet he hasn't changed; the unwavering commitment to his path remains deep in his eyes.

Just as the smoke of battle at Yunshan Base had barely cleared, an invisible shadow began to erode the inner workings of the Super Soldier Company. Black Wind, the number one "artist" under the Demon Queen Morgana, quietly activated its power, weaving nightmares that targeted the human heart. Under its covert machinations, irreconcilable conflicts began to arise between Lena and Cheng Yaowen due to their different backgrounds and ideologies, and their relationship visibly became strained and cold.

With keen insight, Admiral Dukao immediately noticed the unusually low morale and division within the team. He knew that a team plagued by internal discord, no matter how strong the individual members were, would be vulnerable in the face of true interstellar warfare. Therefore, he convened a special internal meeting.

The atmosphere inside the meeting room was somber. Dukao stood at the front, his gaze sharp, sweeping over each young face, each bearing a different expression.

"You...have no glory!" His opening words struck the silent air like a hammer blow. "True glory belongs only to disciplined, unified teams! It doesn't belong to people like you, a disorganized rabble!"

His voice was heavy with sorrow and sternness:

"I acknowledge that each of you possesses superhuman strength and is the hope of Earth. However, you are not united! You haven't even... truly understood what sacrifice means!"

His fingers tapped lightly on the table, producing a sound that questioned the heart:

"Look at you all now! Suspicion, indifference, and each going your own way! You don't yet possess the true spirit of a soldier! Therefore, today, I must give you serious criticism!"

Dukao spoke earnestly, analyzing the team's shortcomings and emphasizing the importance of discipline and unity. His words were clear, logical, and to the point.

However, below...

Ge Xiaolun's eyes darted around, seemingly lost in thought; Zhao Xin lowered his head, his fingers unconsciously digging into the table; Liu Chuang appeared to be sitting upright, but his eyes lacked focus; Rui Mengmeng looked bewildered, seemingly unable to fully grasp the weight of the leader's words. At the heart of the conflict, Lena and Cheng Yaowen stood side-by-side, one staring blankly out the window, the other staring at his hands, as if an invisible wall separated them, isolating them from Dukao's words.

Dukao took it all in, a sense of powerlessness washing over him. He knew that some hurdles they had to overcome themselves, and some lessons had to be learned through blood and fire. His criticism was certainly valid, but for a group of young people with differing thoughts, especially when they were being subtly influenced by external forces, his words had limited effect.

This discordant shadow hanging over the Super Soldier Company, along with Dukao's admonition that was not truly heeded, was also presented to the distant "observers" in some way.
