Chapter 56 Biological Experiments
Michel stood at the door and saw the scene inside the interrogation room; his face turned ashen.
He strode in, pulled the man's hand away, and stood in front of Rosen.
"What the hell are you doing?!"
Upon seeing the enraged Mihir, the man's arrogance instantly diminished, but he still remained defiant:
"Captain, I just—"
"Shut up!"
Michel's voice wasn't loud, but the anger in it chilled the entire interrogation room to a few degrees.
"Get out, immediately, right now."
The man opened his mouth as if to say something, but seeing Mihir's gaze, he ultimately said nothing.
He glared at Rosen resentfully, then slammed the door and left.
The interrogation room fell silent again.
Michel closed the door and remained silent for a few seconds.
Then he turned around and looked at Rosen.
Rosen's expression remained calm, as if nothing had just happened.
Mihir took a deep breath:
"Sorry, I'll handle it."
Rosen shook his head:
"It's okay, I didn't lose out."
He's the one who suffers.
Mihir looked at him with a complicated expression.
He then pulled up a chair and sat down again.
Michel placed his hand on the recording equipment and hesitated for a moment.
He didn't open it, but instead leaned back in his chair and looked at Rosen.
The silence lasted for a long time.
Finally, he spoke, his voice low and deep:
"You know what? I just watched the analysis from the scene."
Rosen remained silent, waiting for him to continue.
Mishir's gaze fell on a spot on the wall:
"Those experts, those surveyors, they went around and around the site, and then they told me a conclusion—"
He paused, staring into Rosen's eyes:
"Given the intensity and scope of the explosion, and given your location at the time, there was absolutely no way anyone could have survived."
Rosen remained silent.
Mihir continued, his voice trembling almost imperceptibly:
"But not only did you survive, you didn't even have a single burn, and the area was completely undamaged."
I had the testimonies of the survivors checked repeatedly.
Thirteen people, and all thirteen of them gave the same answer.
He paused:
"They say there was a man who stepped forward before the explosions and blocked them..."
Rosen did not speak.
Mihir took a deep breath:
"You know what? I don't believe in these things. I've been a policeman for twenty years, and I've seen too many lies and too many scams."
His voice was weary:
"but--"
He paused for a long time:
"I can't find any flaws."
He looked at Rosen, his eyes filled with an extremely complex expression:
"The way those survivors looked at you...it wasn't the kind of look I'd ever seen. It wasn't the look of a cult member."
Rosen finally spoke:
"What kind of look is that?"
Michel was silent for a few seconds.
Then he said softly:
"It was... the way my mother looked at the cross."
A deathly silence fell over the interrogation room.
Michel stood up, walked to the window, and turned his back to Rosen.
"There's one more thing."
他 说:
"We discovered at the scene that there was indeed another armed force."
He stared at Rosen:
"Who are those people?"
Rosen was silent for two seconds.
Then he said:
"I don't know them."
Michel stared at him, seemingly trying to determine whether it was true or false.
Rosen continued:
"If they show themselves in front of me, I will kill them."
Mihir remained silent for a long time.
Then he walked back, sat down again, took something out of his file folder, and placed it in front of Rosen.
It was a portrait.
A sketch of a Black man with sharp eyes and a cold expression.
Have you seen this person before?
Rosen looked at it carefully and shook his head:
"Never seen him before, who is he?"
Mihir took a deep breath and lowered his voice:
"His name is 'Viper,' the current squad leader of Black Gold Capital's security force, and also the former head of security at a biotechnology company that was involved in the illegal human trafficking."
Rosen's eyes flickered slightly.
Mihir didn't miss this reaction, and he continued:
"We've been pursuing him for three years."
He pointed to the portrait:
"There was a charred body at the scene, and we extracted some DNA from it."
The other party was a member of the security department of Black Gold Capital, who happened to be under the command of that viper.
Not far from that location was the former site of a factory belonging to that human trafficking company.
He looked at Rosen:
Do you know what this means?
Rosen did not speak.
Mihir continued, lowering his voice even further:
"Black Gold Capital, one of the largest financial companies in the United States, behind the scenes..."
He paused:
"We suspect they are conducting illegal human experiments."
Rosen's pupils contracted slightly.
Seeing his reaction, Mihir continued:
"Three years ago, we first discovered their traces while investigating a missing person case."
A homeless man was taken from the shelter and never returned.
We later found his organs on the black market—but the organs were just a cover.
The real problem is that his body has been modified in some way.
He paused:
"But every time we got to the crucial part, we were deliberately interrupted."
Witnesses have disappeared, evidence has been destroyed, and even our colleagues have been transferred.
His voice was filled with anger:
"They have insiders in the judicial system, very high-ranking insiders."
Rosen remained silent for a long time.
Many thoughts flashed through his mind.
The footage of the Viper Squad massacring civilians, the corpse of that white bodyguard, and the $80 he owed to Black Gold Capital—
Mihir looked at him, waiting for his reaction.
Rosen finally spoke:
Why are you telling me this?
Michel looked at him and remained silent for a few seconds.
Then he said:
"Because you're the only one who fought them and survived."
He paused:
"and--"
He looked into Rosen's eyes:
You remind me of one of my uncles.
Rosen paused for a moment.
Mihir continued, his gaze drifting somewhat into the distance:
"He was a priest in a very poor and chaotic community."
When I was a child, I didn't understand why he was so nice to those rotten people.
Those people stole, did drugs, fought—they were good for nothing—but he was still kind to them.
He paused:
"Later I understood—"
He stood up:
"This world is already rotten enough, and someone has to try to make it a little better, even if it's ridiculously stupid."
Rosen remained silent.
After a long while, Rosen slowly raised his right hand.
He looked at Mihir:
"You just asked me what that light was all about."
Michel looked at him.
Rosen gently clenched his fist.
A soft white light shone, illuminating the entire interrogation room.
The light was warm and bright, seemingly unreal, yet so real.
Mishir's pupils contracted sharply.
He subconsciously leaned back, his hand on his waist—a habitual action.
But he did not draw his gun.
He just stared at the light.
The light lasted for a few seconds, then slowly dissipated.
Rosen lowered his hand, looked at Michael, his eyes calm:
"I don't know how this happened, and I don't know why it happened to me."
He paused:
"But I know—"
His voice was soft, but firm:
"If this is truly a mission, then I will use it to protect those who need protection."
Mihir remained silent.
a long time.
Then he stood up and walked to the door.
His hand was on the doorknob; he didn't turn around.
His voice came from behind:
"You can leave now. Don't get involved in this."
Rosen did not speak.
Hilton took a break:
"but--"
He finally turned his head slightly:
"Those people can't leave yet. They're injured and need treatment, and... they need psychological counseling."
Rosen nodded:
"Of course."
Michel opened the door.
The last sentence was spoken very softly:
"Remember, you didn't hear anything today."
He walked out the door.
The interrogation room door closed behind him.

I have an idea: to add some low-tech features that won't disrupt the combat power. What do you all think? You can share your thoughts here, and I'll see what everyone thinks. If there aren't any, then I'll just go with something random.
