Hogwarts: My Grandmother is the Queen
Chapter 24 The First Law of Politics
"Look at Poot's face," Draco said gleefully in the Great Hall after class. "It's hilarious. He never expected Professor Snape to deduct a point from his score."
"It's a pity they only deducted one point," Pansy chimed in, poking a pea with her fork. "Given how that idiot Longbottom almost burned through the cauldron, it would have been fair to deduct five points. I could smell that pungent potion odor even from where I was sitting against the wall."
Daphne nodded slightly, sipping her pumpkin juice without offering any comment, but a hint of Slytherin superiority lingered on her face.
After all, she and Henry had just won ten precious points for the academy, while the boy who had survived and his reckless companions had suffered a setback at the hands of the headmaster.
Henry sat down beside them, engrossed in reading "Hogwarts: A History of the School".
He ignored his companions' chatter, his gaze calmly sweeping over the yellowed pages of the book, focusing on the chapters about the early disagreements of the four founders, occasionally jotting down a few keywords on the parchment beside him with his quill pen.
Draco noticed Henry's silence and felt that the deliberately created "we're on the same side" atmosphere needed interaction to maintain.
So he raised his voice slightly, trying to steer Henry into the conversation.
"If you ask me, Professor Snape should have deducted a lot of points from that chubby kid, don't you think, Henry?"
Henry looked up from the book, his gaze sweeping over Draco's expectant face, but he did not answer immediately.
He closed the book, his movements unhurried, and placed the quill pen next to the ink bottle.
"I think Professor Snape was a very gentle person," he said softly.
As soon as he finished speaking, the people around him immediately looked at Henry with eyes that said, "Are you kidding me?"
Draco's gloating expression froze, Pansy's pea-poking fork stopped in mid-air, and even the usually quiet Daphne widened her eyes slightly in surprise.
Even the most ruthless and biased Slytherin would not believe that Professor Snape had anything to do with the word "gentle".
Is she gentle?
Does this word have even the slightest connection to him?
Draco was taken aback for a moment, then took a soft breath.
As expected of His Highness, this book that twists the truth... oh no, this magnum opus called "Emotional Intelligence" is enough for him to learn from.
Keep learning, there's no end to learning, it's too profound.
Henry leaned back slightly, tapping his fingertips lightly on the closed book cover.
"Think about it," he began, his voice still low, "Longbottom made a stupid and dangerous mistake that nearly ruined him and his neighbor. According to classroom rules, deducting ten points or even putting him in detention wouldn't be unreasonable."
Pansy nodded subconsciously; this was exactly what she had just said.
"But Professor Snape didn't deduct any points," Henry continued, his gaze slowly sweeping over Draco and Pansy. "He didn't even humiliate Longbottom with a long, sarcastic lecture like he did with Potter. Deducting points isn't the goal; the goal is to punish mistakes and make the person who made the mistake realize it."
He paused. "Longbottom has already paid the price for his mistake, and I suppose after this experience, he will realize his error. I think that's why Professor Snape didn't impose any further punishment."
Believe it or not, it wasn't just the Slytherins around him nodding in agreement; even the Gryffindors behind him, who had been penalized, were somewhat swayed by Henry's words.
This is truly an unexpected path.
"Then why did Professor Snape deduct another point from Potter?" Daphne asked curiously.
"You can't expect him to get every point deducted, can you?" Henry smiled slightly. "Anger always needs an outlet. He can only blame himself for not preparing before class, which gave the professor an opening."
But Henry actually knew that Professor Snape was doing it on purpose.
After all, Harry looks exactly like his father, James Potter.
Based on Professor Snape and James Potter's past, today's Potions class might just be an appetizer.
The intensity will likely increase further.
"Wow." Pansy suddenly picked up the newspaper on the table. "Look at this. Gringotts has released the latest report about what happened on July 31st."
Henry glanced at it; it read:
Latest report on the Gringotts trespassing incident.
The investigation into the Gringotts trespassing incident on July 31 is ongoing, and it is widely believed to have been carried out by an unnamed dark wizard.
The goblins of Gringotts reiterated today that nothing was stolen. The underground vault, which was searched by the intruders, had in fact been emptied earlier that day.
A Gringotts goblin spokesperson said this afternoon: "We cannot disclose what is stored in the vault, and it is best not to interfere in this matter."
Draco's attention was immediately diverted; he grabbed the newspaper and quickly scanned the headlines.
"Trespassing? July 31st?" He read the date aloud, his brow furrowing slightly. "Isn't that shortly after we received our notice? Who could possibly break into Gringotts? Isn't it supposed to be safer than Hogwarts?"
Pansy leaned closer, pointing to the following lines: "Look here, 'Nothing was stolen,' 'The vault was emptied earlier that day.' Why do I feel like this is just a coincidence?"
Daphne also put down her pumpkin juice glass, her voice gentle: "The vault that was broken into happened to be emptied on the same day. Was this a coincidence, or did the intruder know the vault was about to be emptied and try to get there first? Or…?"
She hesitated for a moment: "Could there be some connection between the person who emptied the vault and the intruder?"
At the Slytherin table, several upperclassmen from the neighborhood were also drawn to the topic, listening intently to the first-year students' discussion.
For these children from wizarding families, who have been exposed to various secrets and conspiracy theories since childhood, Gringotts' anomalies are far more worthy of attention than minor conflicts in the classroom.
"Maybe the vault wasn't even filled with gold to begin with?" Pansy's eyes lit up, eager for more dramatic speculation. "Perhaps it was some kind of dangerous dark magic artifact, or a family heirloom? Or maybe some kind of secret pact? That's why it had to be moved in such a hurry..."
The discussion became heated, with all sorts of speculations emerging.
Draco leaned toward the idea that it was a failed robbery, highlighting the intruders' foolishness or the goblins' incompetence in defense; Pansy was more inclined to believe there was a hidden family feud or a dark magic deal behind it; Daphne, on the other hand, silently pondered the coincidence of the timing and the contradictions in the official narrative.
As the initial excitement subsided, Draco noticed that Henry was still reading The History of Magic.
He turned to Henry and asked, "Henry, what do you think? What exactly happened? Is what the goblins said true? Was nothing really stolen from Gringotts?"
Henry turned a page and said absentmindedly, "The first law of politics: only what is officially denied is credible."
