Hogwarts: My Grandmother is the Queen
Chapter 22 Relics
Henry first reviewed the flashing light and the match turning into a needle. The spell was successfully cast, the ball of light was stable, and the needle was perfectly transformed.
After repeated practice, he began to try some new spells, such as the levitation spell he was about to learn, and the levitation spell's extended version, shock absorption and speed reduction.
He quickly mastered these basic spells, and the rise, fall, slowing, and stopping of the feathers and cushions were all under precise control.
But when it came to some slightly more difficult spells, such as the Disarming Charm and the Shattering Charm, he encountered a bottleneck—he tried a few times and finally accepted reality, that he was still unable to cast them successfully, at least for now.
However, Henry was not discouraged; one must take things one step at a time.
He found that he learned spells at a fairly good pace, but he didn't have any outstanding talent, like Harry, a natural master of disarming spells, or Ginny, who had a natural affinity for crushing spells.
He walked to the other side of the room, aimed at the mannequin in front of him, and planned to try some harmless little curses.
Since we're already here, why not test out that more famous field?
He raised his wand, not to try it out, but more like a serious self-diagnosis.
"Crucio!" he pronounced clearly, pointing his wand diagonally upwards at the dummy.
Nothing happened.
There was no light, no magic, and the dummy remained unresponsive, as if he were reciting a meaningless syllable.
It wasn't because he lacked magic, but because something more fundamental was missing—he couldn't muster the intense desire and cruel pleasure to inflict extreme pain.
"Imperio!" He tried again, imagining the feeling of forcibly twisting his will.
Nothing happened.
Finally, he stared at the dummy, trying to muster a pure killing intent to end everything.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Just as he had expected, the wand did not emit even a hint of green light.
Three attempts, three complete failures.
Henry put down his wand and shrugged nonchalantly.
This is a good thing!
It's certainly a good thing not to have a talent for dark magic, since spells require manipulating emotions, and dark magic precisely requires some extremely negative emotions to be completed.
If you have this kind of talent, do you think you should practice or not?
If you practice, your mind will be warped by dark magic; if you don't practice, it's a waste of your talent.
Now it's just like what Uncle Benshan said: being single-minded has become a double-edged sword.
He waved his wand and began practicing the basic spells again.
The practice of spells requires perseverance. As the saying goes, haste makes waste. The right thing to do is to first master the spells you have learned.
For several days in a row, Henry's movements were very regular.
Aside from class time, he would find a place to practice spells; every afternoon, he would have afternoon tea at four o'clock sharp; after afternoon tea, he would go to the House of Requirement to practice spells.
On Friday morning, as he was having breakfast in the auditorium, Mercury flapped its wings and flew to his side, bringing him two replies.
The first letter was from Mom and Dad:
To our dearest Henry,
At Kensington Palace, a chaotic morning in which Harry broke another vase.
Hopefully, when this letter arrives, breakfast at Hogwarts will be quieter than here.
Your mother insisted that she dictate and I write it down (she said my handwriting was at least legible to house-elves, but I have reservations about that).
First and foremost: we miss you so, so much. The table feels empty, and the garden is empty without you. But knowing that you are doing well and quickly adapting, or rather, shaping your new environment in your own way, fills us with pride.
The courses and afternoon tea salons you described were wonderful. Your mother was very impressed with Miss Farley, whom you mentioned, and I am very interested in your insights on spells; it sounds like a unique philosophy. Please be sure to share these thoughts in future letters.
Now, let me tell you about the disaster that followed your departure. William seems to think that, as the current eldest brother (he insists on using the word), he has the right to use your study for his rocket experiments, and you can imagine the result. Harry has become his loyal (and utterly terrible) lieutenant; the two of them tried to skateboard in the laundry room yesterday, nearly ruining the servant's shirt. I have to invoke your name to intimidate them—"What will Brother Henry say?"—that phrase still has some power for now, but I doubt it will last long.
Your mother says the family desperately needs your calm influence back, and I think the family desperately needs you to share the responsibility of disciplining these two little devils. They're very lively, but they're also a real headache.
Your mother made me tell you this: wherever you are, please take care of your body and mind first. Don't be stressed, enjoy the magic, enjoy making friends, enjoy being yourself, and not just anyone's grandson or son. She's incredibly proud of you and looks back every day at that singing picture book you brought back from Diagon Alley (yes, Harry liked it too, but we've hidden it away).
With all our love, please write to us when you have time, even if it's just a few words.
I love you.
Father & Mother
Henry couldn't help but laugh; he could almost see those two demonic orbs running rampant in the palace.
He put away the letter and then opened the letter from his grandmother:
To Henry,
Mercury arrived safely this morning, and despite the frost and snow, he remained dignified. As is customary, he has been properly cared for and allowed to rest.
Your grandfather and I are delighted to learn of your successful enrollment and sorting into Slytherin House, a house renowned for its strong sense of tradition and keen insight into current affairs. This arrangement demonstrates the Sorting Hat's profound wisdom and aligns perfectly with your character. Learning the rules and understanding people in this environment will be an invaluable experience, far superior to any superficial or frivolous place.
I have carefully read your letter regarding the course and the first afternoon tea. Your ability to use this opportunity to carefully build interpersonal relationships in a new environment demonstrates good judgment and initiative.
Remember, true influence begins with respect and listening, and is built upon providing irreplaceable value to others. You have taken a solid first step. Interacting with the younger generation of families like the Malfoys and Parkinsons can be approached with patience and observation. Understanding their thoughts, their concerns, and their desires is itself a valuable experience.
The slight hectic pace your father mentioned in his letter is simply a mark of growing up; there's no need to worry. They will eventually find their own path, just as you are doing.
Enclosed with this letter is a small box of your favorite Balmoral Manor homemade shortbread, so that you may enjoy a taste of home cooking while studying magic.
Also, upon learning that you have been admitted to Slytherin, your great-grandmother has specially selected a serpent ring from the royal collection as a gift for you. This ring was once worn by Queen Victoria and carries a profound meaning; I hope you will cherish it.
I love you.
grandmother.
