Hogwarts: My Grandmother is the Queen
Chapter 20 It really is you!
Henry sat at the middle of the Slytherin table, his signature healthy diet still in front of him.
He held a silver spoon in one hand and an open copy of the newly delivered Daily Prophet in the other.
The headline was about the Ministry of Magic's surprise inspection of a suspicious shop in Knockturn Alley, accompanied by a picture of several nervous-looking wizards being taken away.
Henry read intently, his brow furrowed slightly, a stark contrast to the boisterous eating and laughing around him.
Just then, two figures approached the edge of the Slytherin table with slight hesitation.
They were Justin and Hannah, two Hufflepuff freshmen, and the first classmates he met on the train.
Justin wore a smile that was a mixture of excitement and nervousness, while Hannah followed half a step behind him, looking around curiously.
"Good morning, Mr. Wells?" Justin tried to make his voice sound natural, but it still trembled slightly.
It takes some courage to approach the Slytherin table, especially Henry, in front of everyone in the Great Hall.
Henry looked up from the newspaper, his scrutinizing gaze quickly replaced by a gentle smile.
"Good morning, Mr. Finley, Miss Abbott. How are you settling into Hufflepuff?"
His attitude was casual and friendly, as if he had met two familiar classmates.
"Oh, very good, excellent! The common room is right next to the kitchen, it's wonderfully warm, and..."
Just as Justin started talking, he was interrupted by another woman's rapid, clear voice, which was even slightly distorted by excitement.
"Oh my god! It really is you!"
Hermione Granger also walked over quickly, her fluffy brown hair seeming even fluffier with excitement.
She completely ignored the invisible boundaries between the college tables, her bright eyes wide open, staring intently at Henry.
"I thought you looked familiar on the train, but I wasn't sure... It wasn't until last night that I realized... You're Prince Henry! Prince Henry of Wales! The son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana!"
Her voice was somewhat shrill, but it carried clearly to several long tables nearby.
With her gleaming front teeth, she looks just like a real beaver.
Many students who were eating stopped and looked over curiously.
At the Gryffindor table, Ron's fork was suspended in mid-air, his sausage still in his mouth; Harry also turned his head in confusion.
Hermione's face flushed crimson, whether from running or from excitement, she continued speaking rapidly, as if reciting an encyclopedia: "I've read every biography of the royal family! I know you're eleven this year, supposed to be in prep school... but I never imagined... you were also... I mean, you received a letter from Hogwarts? That's incredible! Does this mean the royal family has always known about the wizarding world? Does the Act of International Secrecy have special provisions for the monarch? And..."
Her rapid-fire questions stunned Justin and Hannah, and the air around the Slytherin table instantly froze.
All the Slytherin students’ eyes—curious, scrutinizing, displeased, and amused—were focused on Henry and the loud, intrusive Gryffindor Muggle witch.
Draco had just finished reading his father's subtly worded reply and was cutting a piece of smoked fish with great emotion when he stopped completely.
He looked up, first staring at Hermione in utter astonishment, then quickly turning to Henry.
How dare a Gryffindor, or even a Muggle, get so close to us and talk so loudly about us?
He had no intention of interfering, but he also wanted to see how Henry would handle this sudden attention.
Pansy wrinkled her nose without any attempt to hide it, revealing a typical Slytherin-like expression of disgust, and muttered something under her breath to the girl next to her.
"Look at that mud... that Gryffindor, he doesn't know any rules at all."
But she was also keeping a close eye on Henry.
Even the usually silent Theodore looked up from his thick potions book, his gaze calmly sweeping over the scene.
Faced with Hermione's barrage of questions and the watchful eyes of almost half the Great Hall, Henry put down his newspaper and spoon.
There was no embarrassment or anger on his face. On the contrary, he sighed softly, his expression more like that of an older brother facing an overly enthusiastic and immature little sister, with a hint of helpless tolerance.
“Miss Granger,” his voice was steady and gentle, carrying a strange soothing power that instantly drowned out Hermione’s hurried tone, “your knowledge is impressive. However, I think it might be better to consult the professors after class, or seek more authoritative answers in the restricted section of the library, rather than discussing it during breakfast. What do you think?”
He neither admitted nor denied it, but subtly shifted the focus of the conversation and gently pointed out the inappropriateness of the occasion.
Then, he turned to Justin and Hannah, who were still somewhat dazed, and his tone returned to its previous casualness: "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Finley, Miss Abbott. Have a nice day."
This was both a polite signal to end the brief exchange with Hufflepuff and a hint that Hermione should leave.
Hermione's face turned even redder, this time from embarrassment.
She seemed to realize then how abrupt her actions had been, especially on Slytherin territory.
"Oh! Uh... I'm sorry, I... I was just too surprised... Your Highness..."
She stammered, grabbed her schoolbag, nodded almost frantically to Henry, glanced at Justin and Hannah, then turned and practically ran back to the Gryffindor table, leaving behind a suppressed chuckle and whispers.
Justin and Hannah quickly said goodbye and left, and the Slytherin table became noisy again, but many eyes still lingered on Henry.
He picked up the newspaper again, his posture unchanged, as if it had just been a trivial breeze.
Draco slowly exhaled and resumed cutting his smoked fish, but much slower.
His feelings became even more complicated.
Henry dismissed the know-it-all with a calm, slightly condescending, and gentle manner, which gave him a sense of pride—see, this is the right way to handle this situation.
However, Hermione's actions also clearly reminded him and the other Slytherins that Henry Welsh's status was among the highest in Muggles, attracting strong curiosity from other houses, especially students with Muggle backgrounds.
Pansy pursed her lips sharply, clearly disgusted by Hermione's behavior.
