Chapter 63 Moon Shadow Labyrinth - I have connections!
"Excuse me, may I speak?"
Glenn weakly raised his hand.
"Speak," Lance nodded.
Then Edmund's red eyes also stared at him, and Glenn felt immense pressure.
"Edmund is the guardian knight of the Phoenix family heirs, and each guardian knight inherits the name 'Edmund'."
"But this power carries a curse; every 'Edmund' dies from the curse... and I'm dying soon too."
"How fast is 'dying'?"
"Maybe less than half a month."
No wonder.
Lance erupted in uproar.
No wonder Edmund said Glenn was going to die so long ago; it was a curse.
"Why do you curse your own junior to die?" Lance pointed at Edmund.
"It wasn't me." The white-armored knight shook his head, looking at Lance. "I should have inherited this name too, and ultimately died from the curse."
"So what exactly is this 'Edmund'?" Lance asked, looking at Glenn.
The latter simply shook his head.
He then confessed everything he knew to the two of them.
"Everyone has forgotten what 'Edmund' is. Even the head of the Phoenix family doesn't know. All he knows is that it's a tradition left behind by the Phoenix family."
Lance crossed his arms and mentally sorted through the current clues.
"Edmund" was not the White Knight's real name, but the name he received from the Phoenix family, and this name, whose meaning was unclear, carried a murderous curse.
It is highly likely that the White Knight died from this curse, and Glenn will now suffer the same fate.
However, since it is the first generation, theoretically, as long as we find the corresponding first generation Phoenix, we can find out the identity of the first generation Edmund.
There are two problems here.
Firstly, perhaps the story of the original Phoenix is too distant, causing no one to remember it, or perhaps even if people know about the original Phoenix, they may not remember about the original Edmund.
Secondly, Glenn has to be the one to inquire about all of this. Putting aside whether he can even find a way to get this information, the key issue is that he is about to die. Once he dies, resolving this matter will be even more distant.
After a moment's thought, Lance looked at Glenn.
Is there any way to cure a curse?
"Theoretically, yes," Glenn nodded. "We just need to find the legendary 'sunflower.'"
"What is that?"
"A flower from the garden of the goddess Linovie, capable of curing all curses."
Where can I find it?
"It's said to be in the 'Moonshadow Labyrinth' in the west." Glenn hesitated for a moment, then looked at Lance. "I'm about to set off for the 'Moonshadow Labyrinth' to find the sunflower. The journey will take about half a month, and I might die on the way. So I've come to say goodbye to you."
Lance raised his head slightly and sighed.
"Wait a moment."
After leaving those words, Lance opened a portal and disappeared from their sight the next second.
Only Glenn, staring wide-eyed, and Edmund, who remained silent, were left behind.
He... he's gone already?!
Glenn swallowed hard, stiffly turning his head to look at Edmund beside him; an awkward silence filled the air.
"Humans".
"Ah! I'm here!"
"Tell me about the Phoenix family," Edmund said slowly in a deep voice. "Perhaps I can recall something."
......
What a coincidence!
Lance actually knows someone in the Moon Shadow Labyrinth!
After opening the door directly from the Starfall Maze to return home, Lance plunged headlong into the core of the maze, "Aaskali".
From Lance's perspective, Ascali's greatest role for him was to allow him to meet the rulers of the various labyrinths.
This makes it easier to explore the maze in the future.
Take, for example, the ruler of the Moonshadow Labyrinth, the Lich Willy.
After passing through the bustling streets of Ascali and nodding to several monsters who greeted him, Lance went directly to Willie's residence—a huge tomb that resembled an earthen furnace.
Seeing the several rulers gathered around a table, Lance approached them.
"We're fighting right now, guys."
"Isn't this Lance, my brother...? Yes, 7."
"It's been a while since I've seen you... by the way."
"Brother Lance, take a look at this hand and see how I should play it."
"What are you doing! Willie, you damned lich, are you cheating in front of us?!"
Willie shook his finger at the dwarf across the table: "I am an undead, so this has no effect on me."
That being said, Willie is a superior immortal.
Compared to ordinary undead, liches are more human-like in appearance. They have deep blue skin, wear ceremonial robes, have fangs, and their eyes emit deep blue soul fire.
Even when he speaks, he spews flames, which Lance usually thinks are just the other person's spittle.
The other two rulers on the table were an underground dwarf and a tall orc.
"I must say, Brother Lance, this thing you came up with is really good. Is it called... Dou Dizhu?" The dwarf laughed heartily.
"So, what exactly is a landlord?" the orc asked.
"The villain who oppresses the people."
After Lance finished speaking, the three card players exchanged glances and then spoke in unison.
"Frei" / "Human" / "King of the Labyrinth"
Lance remained silent, pretending not to have heard the explosive remarks.
"Actually, I came here to ask Brother Willie for a favor."
"Looking for me?" Lich Willie was somewhat surprised.
"I'd like to ask Brother Willie to get me some 'sunflowers' from your maze, just ten or eight will do."
"It's not that I don't want to help, Brother Lance, but my maze only has one level, and it's a large tomb where the sun never shines in. How could there possibly be sunflowers there?"
"Does it have to be the sun?" Lance asked curiously.
"Otherwise, why would it be called a sunflower?" Willie explained earnestly, afraid that Lance would think he was being stingy. "It's the flower that is illuminated by the first rays of dawn in the goddess Linovie's garden. It can lift any curse in the world. There have always been rumors that there are sunflowers in my labyrinth."
"I've been the ruler for so many years, how could I not know if such a thing existed? We don't have sunflowers, but we have plenty of moonflowers and starflowers. Brother Lance, would you like some?"
"What would I need those for?" Lance was speechless.
"I have a little brother who's going to explore the 'Moonshadow Labyrinth' soon, Brother Willie, what do you think...?"
"Your friend is my friend." The lich spat, which landed on the table—if it weren't specially made, it would have been burned through by the flames. He patted his chest and said, "Just mention my name when you go, and it'll be a sure thing."
"Alright, I'll be going now. You keep fighting."
After saying this, Lance turned and left the room.
Before leaving, he looked back one last time, shook his head, and sighed.
Why doesn't Edmund like playing cards?
......
The Starfall Maze, Ninth Floor.
Lance returned to the scene and found Glenn speaking cautiously to Edmund.
Upon seeing Lance, Glenn looked at him as if he had seen a savior, and his smile became much brighter.
"I asked, and there are no sunflowers in the Moon Shadow Maze," Lance said slowly.
Then Glenn's smile froze.
"However, there might be some special mechanism, such as letting the sun shine into the maze."
As he spoke, Lance looked at Glenn, his hands behind his back: "Go to the Moonshadow Labyrinth first. If you encounter any monsters, tell them you're one of Willie's men. I'll prepare myself and then go to the Moonshadow Labyrinth as well."
"Willie...is that your name?"
"How could that be?" Lance shook his head. "That sounds like a lich's name."
"what?"
Before Glenn could react, the portal to the Moonshadow Labyrinth opened behind him, and Lance kicked him in the butt without saying a word.
"Go on."
Glenn was suddenly kicked to the ground and fell face-first into the dirt.
Lance then closed the portal.
