Chapter 38 Prelude to Conflict
After saying goodbye to Bell at the guild gate, Harvey returned to the guild.
He still needs to wait for the next monster attack to occur, and the Adventurers' Guild is the best place to obtain information.
Before that, however, he needed to take on some quests to level up his adventurer rank and earn some money.
The identity of "Harvey" can no longer be used in Byrondin.
Harvey got up and went to the task notice board on the left side of the hall, scanning the task notices posted on the board from top to bottom.
His pupils contracted sharply.
Harvey then tore down a sign and strode to the counter.
"Snap—"
He slammed the notice on the table.
"When was this quest posted?"
Harvey asked in a low, hoarse voice, the words "Investigation Team for Missing Persons" written on the paper in his hand.
The mission involves investigating the missing team "Platinum Unicorn" in the Starfall Labyrinth.
"This?" The girl at the counter thought for a moment, "It was about a day ago."
Has anyone taken the call?
"A D-rank squad called 'Morning Star' has taken it." The girl at the counter looked at Harvey somewhat apologetically. "Um, actually, this mission was accepted as soon as it was posted, but I forgot to take the notice down... I'm really sorry!"
Harvey didn't come to the guild yesterday, and today he went straight to the maze that Bell had descended.
In other words, while he and Bell were setting up an ambush for the raiders on the first floor, the squad called "Morning Star" was already exploring downwards.
"Could you tell me the details of this mission?" Harvey slowly exhaled, then added, "Actually, I have great respect for the 'Platinum Unicorns,' so I was quite surprised to learn of their disappearance."
"You must be... Mr. Blazer." The girl at the counter nodded and then began to recount the details.
"This mission was actually issued by Harvey's sister, a member of 'Platinum Unicorn'... Mr. Blazer, are you alright?"
"It's okay, I'm fine."
Harvey gripped the edge of the counter tightly, his body trembling with excitement.
at last.
We finally got news about Lena.
To appear more composed, he deliberately asked in a nonchalant tone, "Little sister? A little girl?"
"Mr. Blazer, you may not know this since you've just arrived in Byronden, but Mr. Harvey's sister, Lena, is a very lovely little girl."
The girl at the counter smiled and said:
"Because 'Platinum Unicorn' has not returned since receiving the mission to investigate the depths of the dungeon, Rena came to the guild to look for her brother and issued a mission to the guild to find the missing team."
"The 'Morning Star' team accepted the mission on the spot, but Lena looked... a bit unfamiliar. The team took Lena into the maze... Mr. Blaze?"
Watching Harvey turn and leave, the girl on the altar tilted her head, looking puzzled.
This newly registered Mr. Blazer is really strange. Why is he so concerned about other people's female admirers?
Suddenly, the girl looked shocked.
No way...
Does Mr. Blazer like little girls?!
Harvey rushed out of the guild without hesitation and ran straight towards the maze.
Just as he and Bell were killing raiders on the first floor today, Lena and her squad were beneath him, exploring deeper into the layers.
The white-armored knight on the ninth floor is very strong; even a C-level team is no match for him, let alone a D-level team.
And... why take a little girl into a maze?!
Has this D-class squad lost their minds?!
"Lena, wait for me, your brother is coming to find you now."
Harvey gritted his teeth and muttered to himself.

Byrondin, the Church of Frey.
"This is the second attack by a monstrous beast in recent times."
McCann pinched the bridge of his nose and paced back and forth in front of the Freya statue.
Sunlight streamed into the church, yet it couldn't dispel the shadows in the corners.
Lilith sat in her chair, looking at the report in her hands over and over again.
Those infected with the blood curse: Chris, a farmer from Dunn Village, and Ben, the hunter, have no record of contact with the witch.
"Perhaps we were all wrong," Lilith murmured to herself.
"What do you mean?" McCann stopped and frowned at Lilith.
"Why have there been no blood curse outbreaks for so long, but they've been occurring frequently lately?" Lilith's cold eyes looked at Macken. "If you were a witch, why would you do this?"
"Didn't we discuss this issue before?" McKen sat down and sighed. "Because our hiding place was discovered, the witch needed time to escape, which is why she summoned the monster, forcing us to deal with the scene."
"No," Lilith shook her head. "If that were the case, the witch could have easily slipped away before we noticed her, or she could have spread a large-scale blood curse, and we would still have had to deal with the scene. So why are there only two incidents?"
These words prompted McCann to ponder deeply.
Clearly, this was an angle that none of them had considered.
It's the young people who have more active minds; these older folks just have too rigid a mindset.
McCann stood up again, put his hands behind his back, and paced back and forth.
"But when we were investigating the survivors, they clearly stated that those infected with the blood curse had not recently been in contact with unfamiliar women. Could it be that the witch has altered their perception?"
"Perhaps, the witch is someone they know," Lilith suggested again.
"Impossible." McCann immediately denied it, his face serious and his tone earnest. "Those two families haven't had any contact with outsiders in the last six months, which doesn't match the timeline of the witch's escape to Aneman..."
"Bishop McKen," Lilith interrupted McKen, biting her lower lip with a complicated expression, "is it possible that the witch wasn't just one person from the beginning, but two?"
"two?!"
"I always felt that these two blood curse cases, rather than having a specific purpose, were more likely the work of a novice witch who couldn't skillfully control her powers. And if it was someone known to the victim's family, who recently became Belzaha's witch and couldn't control her powers, leading to the spread of the blood curse... then who could that person be?"
McCann's pupils are like earthquakes.
He almost lost his balance and plopped down in the chair.
Once you eliminate all the wrong options, the one that remains, no matter how outrageous, is the truth.
The two looked at each other and said the name in unison.
"Lena".
Harvey's sister, the little girl who lived with the witch for a time...she became the new Berzaha's witch.
This seems to explain why the witch hid there and lived with the brother and sister.
What's far more terrifying than a witch is that there are two witches.
Clara has her own purpose in everything she does; she will not spread blood curses indiscriminately to expose her location.
Overall, although she was evil, she still had a certain degree of order.
But the new witch is different; she may not be able to control her power, causing a large-scale outbreak of the blood curse.
By then, the entire Byronde will have fallen...
Lilith immediately stood up, looking anxious.
"Without further ado, I'll immediately go to the Adventurers' Guild to gather information about Lena and issue a quest to find her."
Lilith thought to herself, "I hope it's all just her wrong guess."
Otherwise... that would be terrible.

"You can't open this door from this side... What does that mean?"
Nia deciphered the human writing on the closed door and turned to look at Glenn in confusion:
"Glenn, do you know?"
Glenn and the other three also gathered around, looking at the writing on the door with suspicion.
"Maybe this door can only be opened from the other side?" Glenn guessed.
Immediately, Nolan, who was standing nearby, asked, "Then what's the point of having this door here?"
The group of people crossed their arms, frowned, and couldn't figure it out no matter what they did.
This is probably another one of the Skeleton King's tricks.
"Let's explore ahead anyway," Glenn said, pointing forward. "We're already in the third ring of the corridor; we're probably about to encounter monsters."
What Glenn actually meant was that if we went any further, we would reach the location where he was involved in the project.
Starting from the outermost layer, this is the third ring. The torches on the wall are flickering due to the airflow, and the light is no longer as abundant as in the outermost ring.
The road ahead begins at this ring, with many entrances extending to the left and right.
However, no trace of the monstrous beast has been found so far.
The four-person team is tightly packed together and is steadily moving forward.
A huge recess appears on the left wall, inside which is an "L"-shaped room, and a huge treasure chest is placed at the corner.
"It's a treasure chest!" Nia pointed ahead with a look of surprise.
Treasure chest?
Glenn remembered that when he was still "serving" in the labyrinth, it was so poor that there were only bones and stones left, and nothing worth putting into the treasure chest.
Feeling uneasy, he reached out to stop his teammate who was about to enter the room.
"Same as always, I'll scout ahead."
