Qiu Yingying is reborn and bound to a learning system.

Chapter 9 Feeding cats with Qu Xiaoxiao

In the evening, the elevator in the Joyful Song residential complex dinged and stopped on the 22nd floor. The doors slowly opened, and Qiu Yingying and Guan Juer, who had just stepped out carrying groceries from the supermarket, heard hushed conversations coming from inside the elevator.

Inside the elevator, a well-dressed middle-aged couple was accompanying a pretty and flamboyant young girl—it was Qu Xiaoxiao and her parents. Mr. Qu's brow was furrowed, his tone full of disdain: "Look at this complex. The stairwells are narrow enough, but the paint on the walls is peeling off. How is this suitable for our Xiaoxiao to live in?"

Mrs. Qu, dressed elegantly and carrying a designer handbag, nodded in agreement upon hearing this, and sighed, "There's nothing we can do. This location is good, close to Xiaoxiao's company. Besides, she insists on moving out and refuses to live in our big villa. Let her do what she wants."

"Making a fuss?" Qu's mother immediately raised her voice and tapped Qu Xiaoxiao's forehead. "You child, you have a perfectly good river-view apartment, but you insist on squeezing into this pigeonhole. Don't come crying and begging to go home later."

Qu Xiaoxiao, wearing a short leather jacket and Doc Martens, rolled her eyes upon hearing this and impatiently rummaged through her suitcase: "Mom, can you stop being so old-fashioned? This is called being down-to-earth! I run a company and it's very convenient for me to stay here for business."

"Down-to-earth? I think you're just making things up!" Mrs. Qu wanted to say more, but when she caught sight of Qiu Yingying and Guan Juer at the elevator entrance out of the corner of her eye, she shut her mouth awkwardly, forced a smile, and nodded to the two of them.

Qiu Yingying and Guan Juer exchanged a glance, both seeing a hint of helplessness in each other's eyes. Carrying their groceries, they smiled politely and turned to walk towards room 2202.

Just as I reached the door, I heard the elevator doors close behind me with a "ding," and then I could faintly hear Mrs. Qu's voice again: "Look at those two young girls just now, they're obviously people who take the subway to work. The people who live here are all..."

The rest of her words were swallowed up by the sound of the elevator doors closing. Qiu Yingying pursed her lips, but her heart suddenly skipped a beat.

Memories of a past life suddenly surged up, flooding my mind like a tide. The girl in front of me, spoiled by her parents and prickly all over, seemed arrogant and unapproachable, but who would have thought that she was the person I should be most grateful to in this life?

In her past life, she was unlucky enough to fall for a scumbag, and Qu Xiaoxiao rushed forward without hesitation to expose his true colors and get justice for her. When she foolishly quit her job to sell coffee and was in a mess, Qu Xiaoxiao brought her friends to support her and even gave her ideas on how to attract customers. Later, when she was dating Ying Qin and became obsessed with love, she was beaten up for interfering in Ying Qin's relationship with his girlfriend. Qu Xiaoxiao was the first to rush to her side, put her hands on her hips and scold her to wake her up. But she didn't appreciate the kindness and scolded Qu Xiaoxiao. Qu Xiaoxiao cried and made a scene with her and cleaned up her mess.

Qu Xiaoxiao has a sharp tongue, her words are often harsh and biting, and she loves watching the drama unfold and gossiping, but deep down she's a very loyal and righteous girl. She's as passionate as a fire, illuminating everyone's darkest days, and she's always the first to rush to the front lines when something happens.

Qiu Yingying also recalled that Qu Xiaoxiao later returned the family fortune to her father, built a thriving company through her own abilities, and married Dr. Zhao in a grand and glamorous ceremony. Her good-for-nothing brother, on the other hand, squandered the family fortune and dragged her down with him. However, their happiness was short-lived. Ultimately, due to conflicts in personality and values, the two eventually drifted apart, their initial passion faded, and they reached the point of divorce.

Thinking of this, Qiu Yingying felt a mix of emotions, and the discomfort she had felt earlier had long since vanished.

Seeing that she hadn't said anything for a while, Guan Juer couldn't help but touch her arm: "Yingying, what's wrong?"

Qiu Yingying snapped out of her daze, shook her head, and whispered to Guan Juer, "These new neighbors' parents don't seem very satisfied with the neighborhood; they must be quite well-off."

Guan Juer pursed her lips, nodded, and quickly walked into the house carrying the groceries.

As soon as the two entered, they saw Fan Shengmei leaning on the sofa flipping through job postings. Guan Juer put the groceries in the kitchen and couldn't help but complain, "Sister Fan, we just ran into our new neighbor Qu Xiaoxiao and her parents at the elevator. Her mother kept complaining about this neighborhood, saying things like 'pigeon coop' and 'down-to-earth,' which made people feel really uncomfortable."

Fan Shengmei raised an eyebrow upon hearing this, put down the documents in her hand, and chuckled lightly: "It's a common problem for rich wives; they always think they're superior. Don't take it to heart, just avoid them in the future."

Qiu Yingying didn't respond, but just stared in the direction of the elevator entrance, thinking to herself, "Only Sister Andy is missing."

As soon as the two entered, they heard Fan Shengmei leaning against the sofa flipping through job postings. Qiu Yingying put the groceries in the kitchen, then suddenly remembered that the cat food she received as a system reward was still in her bag. She pulled Guan Juer aside and said, "I'm going downstairs to feed those stray cats. I'll be right back."

In the bushes beside the flowerbed in the community, several orange and white kittens were basking in the sun. Qiu Yingying squatted down, tore open the can lid, and the rich aroma of meat instantly wafted out. The kittens immediately surrounded her, making soft "meow" sounds.

"You're pretty bold, aren't you afraid of people?" A clear and slightly arrogant voice came from behind.

Qiu Yingying turned around and saw Qu Xiaoxiao standing not far away with her arms crossed, still wearing that short leather jacket, her Doc Martens making a crisp sound on the stone pavement. She was also carrying an unopened bag of cat treats, clearly there to feed the cats as well.

"Do you like kittens too?" Qiu Yingying asked with a smile, her hands still moving as she gently stroked the head of the most affectionate kitten.

Qu Xiaoxiao walked over, squatted down, tore open a cat treat, and held it to the mouth of a skinny kitten. Her tone was a little indifferent: "I wouldn't say I like them, I just saw them hungry when I was passing by, and it was quite pitiful."

The two squatted by the flower bed, watching the kittens scramble for food. They didn't speak for a while, only the kittens' satisfied purring and the occasional meow.

"I had a cat when I was little," Qu Xiaoxiao suddenly said, gently touching a kitten's ear with her fingertip, her voice lowered, "It was a calico cat, very affectionate. Every day after school, it would be waiting for me at the door."

Qiu Yingying didn't interrupt and listened quietly.

"Later it ran away. I searched for several days and finally found it next to a trash can at the alley entrance. It was already dead." Qu Xiaoxiao's voice was very soft, as soft as a breeze. "Since then, I have never kept a cat again."

Qiu Yingying turned to look at her. The afterglow of the setting sun fell on her face. It was a pretty and flamboyant face, but at this moment, there was a trace of sadness hidden in her eyes, like the surface of a lake rippled by the wind.

It turns out that this seemingly prickly girl has such a soft spot in her heart.

"They're all very well-behaved," Qiu Yingying said softly. "If you miss them, you can come and see these little guys often."

Qu Xiaoxiao chuckled, raised her hand to rub her nose, and her tone returned to its usual arrogant tone: "Who cares about it? I'm just bored."

She paused, then suddenly seemed to remember something, raised an eyebrow and asked, "By the way, which floor do you live on? I saw you come out of the elevator just now."

"2202," Qiu Yingying said with a smile.

Qu Xiaoxiao's eyes lit up: "What a coincidence! I live in 2203, we're neighbors!"

She stood up, dusted off her pants, and gestured with her chin towards Qiu Yingying: "Sure thing, neighbor, you can call me when you feed the cats from now on. I'll cover the cat treats."

As Qiu Yingying watched her still upright back as she turned away, the gratitude she felt from her past life, mixed with the warmth of the present moment, gradually welled up inside her.

This passionate and loyal girl is still the same as ever.
