Chapter 6 One person receiving intravenous fluids
Li Bo developed a fever, which wasn't entirely unexpected. He'd been incredibly busy at work lately, barely getting any rest at night, and his eating habits were irregular… he'd fallen ill from exhaustion.
This morning, Uncle Liu came to pick up Li Bo, but no one answered when he called Li Bo twice.
Li Bo was always a very punctual person. This was the first time Uncle Liu had been unable to reach Li Bo by phone, and he immediately sensed something was wrong and went upstairs. Fortunately, Li Bo's house had a combination lock, and Uncle Liu often came to help Li Bo get things or deliver documents, so he knew the combination. When he opened the door and went in, Li Bo was still in bed, burning up.
Uncle Liu immediately took Li Bo to the hospital.
Li Bo's fever reached over 39 degrees Celsius, and the doctor gave him an IV drip.
Uncle Liu went to buy breakfast for Li Bo.
Li Bo sat alone, receiving an IV drip. He was drowsy, his eyelids closed, wearing a coat. He sat on an iron chair, and the sunlight from the window shone on him, making his already fair skin appear unusually sickly and weak.
Sun Shengyang happened to be here today to inquire about the old man's recovery from the surgery some time ago. He saw Li Bo from afar and was somewhat surprised. He took a picture and sent it to Zhou Yanshao. Not receiving a reply, he made a phone call instead.
Zhou Yanshao's tone was languid, as if he had just woken up: "Feed."
"Brother Shao, guess who I ran into at the hospital?"
"I'm hanging up now, that's all."
"Tsk!" Sun Shengyang stopped keeping him in suspense, "I ran into Li Bo at the hospital. He was getting an IV drip and looked really weak."
Zhou Yanshao asked, "Which hospital?"
"The First Municipal Hospital, my father just had surgery a while ago, right? Now he can't stay still and wants to go out. My mother asked me to come and inquire about his recovery and get some medicine to keep him quiet for a few days."
"Yes, please give my regards to the old man."
"it is good."
"I'm hanging up now." Zhou Yanshao hung up the phone.
Sun Shengyang glanced at Li Bo again. Li Bo was getting an IV drip all by himself, which was actually quite pitiful.
……
Uncle Liu bought breakfast and came back. Li Bo ate a little something, finished his IV drip, and went back to the company to check on the progress.
The company is preparing for a financing and listing next year, so he has been contacting and meeting with suitable investors. He had an appointment with one tonight, but he suddenly fell ill. The other party had come to Beijing specifically for this, so he couldn't cancel the appointment.
Fortunately, it was just a fever, not a cold, and there were no obvious symptoms, so it could be suppressed and not very noticeable.
Li Bo could have taken medicine for his fever, but considering he had a social engagement that evening and couldn't drink alcohol after taking the fever-reducing cephalosporin, he opted for an IV drip instead.
That evening, he went to the hotel restaurant with his secretary. In the car, his secretary handed him some medicine: "Mr. Bo, you shouldn't drink tonight... Your health is the most important thing."
Taking the medicine would give you an excuse and a reason to refuse treatment.
The secretary hadn't been with Li Bo for long, but Li Bo was diligent and often worked overtime. The secretary also suffered a lot and stayed up many all-nighters, but he did learn a lot and benefited greatly.
But the kind of reckless work that Li Bo does is really frightening.
"It's nothing," Li Bo said casually. "How's the proposal for collaborating with Wanrui Auto going?"
"The qualification review has been approved, and the plan has been almost revised. It can be sent over in the next couple of days."
"Hmm." Li Bo rubbed his eyelids, relaxing a bit.
When the car arrived at the hotel, Li Bo arrived ahead of time and instructed his secretary to handle all the small details. Even though he had a fever and his mind was a little sluggish, Li Bo was still very shrewd and considerate.
As the time drew near, Li Bo and his secretary waited for the investors at the hotel entrance.
When the Bentley arrived at the door, Uncle Liu got out and respectfully invited the investor out of the car.
A black G-Class braked suddenly behind the Bentley, almost crashing into it. The Bentley couldn't withstand a collision with an SUV, but luckily the other car braked in time. The sound of the brakes attracted Li Bo's attention, and he immediately saw the other car's conspicuous license plate.
—It was Zhou Yanshao's car.
Li Bo frowned, his body stiffening slightly.
The investor got out of the Bentley, and Li Bo regained his composure, smiling as he extended his hand: "Mr. Wen, it's been a long time."
"It's been a long time. Last time I saw you, you were still a college student. Now you're President Bo," President Wen joked, extending his hand to shake Li Bo's hand. "You're truly young and accomplished."
Zhou Yanshao, who had just gotten off the car, stared at the two people's tightly clasped hands, his face grim, and walked past Li Bo. As he passed Li Bo, he paused for a second.
Li Bo could feel the gaze from above.
Li Bo stiffened slightly and withdrew his hand: "President Wen, let's go inside and talk."
Zhou Yanshao frowned, looked away, and walked away.
"Alright." President Wen smiled and patted Li Bo on the shoulder. "It's a rare treat to see you like this. Let's drink until we drop tonight."
Li Bo smiled and said, "I'd risk my life to accompany you."
Li Bo's voice wasn't loud, but the hotel lobby was very quiet, and their conversation was exceptionally clear.
Saying something like "I'd risk my life to accompany you" sounds very sincere, but it also carries a hint of... ambiguity.
Li Bo and Boss Wen sat down in the private room and started chatting about the past. Li Bo and Boss Wen first met at a lecture at their alma mater. Boss Wen had been invited by his alma mater to give a speech. Boss Wen and Li Bo's professor had been classmates. Li Bo went to ask Boss Wen a question, and it happened to be lunchtime, so Boss Wen was taken to lunch with him. This was how the two of them had their insignificant interaction.
Li Bo was a smart man, and President Wen admired him greatly. Li Bo used his teacher's connections to extend an olive branch to President Wen, showing great sincerity in order to invite him to Beijing for a chat.
Mr. Wen is a heavy drinker, a fact Li Bo had known for years at a dinner table. He had gone to great lengths to invite him, so he couldn't let him down; given his current health, it was truly a matter of risking his life to keep him company.
The atmosphere at the dinner table was very good, and Mr. Wen agreed to the investment.
As Mr. Wen drank more and more, his rationality crumbled, and he asked an inopportune question: "I heard that you now own the shares of Zhou Family Winery, so why are you still asking me for financing?"
Li Bo's expression froze.
Almost everyone thinks that Li Bo has now turned his life around.
