Chapter 93 Umbrella Corporation
Chapter 93 Umbrella Corporation
Li En had just finished greeting them and hadn't even had a chance to say a second word when a figure crashed down from the sky.
The body rolled hundreds of times across the wasteland, sending mud and gravel flying everywhere.
Finally, he lay face down on the ground and stopped moving.
The green skin is fading at a visible rate, and the body size is shrinking.
Moments later, Bruce Banner was lying naked in the mud.
Li En bent down, reached out and picked Banner up from the ground, hoisted him onto his shoulder, and walked towards the teaching building.
Banner's head slumped behind his back, his breathing even, but he had passed out.
Frank walked up to the group, looked Li En up and down, and then spoke, his tone quite displeased.
"Did you use something more advanced? How come you didn't even get a scratch after falling from such a height?"
Frank had already noticed something was wrong with Li En's body during their previous visit to the hospital.
This guy used a dagger to deflect Hulk's fists one by one.
Now he saw with his own eyes how Lee was thrown back by the Hulk like a cannonball.
When it landed, it created a mud ditch hundreds of meters long on the ground. It got up, dusted itself off, and walked over to say hello as if nothing had happened.
This can no longer be explained by good physical fitness.
Lee En lifted Banner onto his shoulder again and responded with a smile.
"It's just that my body is a little special. Don't worry, as the Dragon Blood Potion is updated and improved, you will be able to do this sooner or later."
"Dragon Blood Potion? The one they gave me?" Frank frowned, turning to Connors beside him. "This thing can be upgraded?"
Connors nodded, his tone very serious.
"In theory, it is possible to continuously iterate. The current formula is only the first version. If we can find more efficient nutrients or more suitable catalysts, there is still a lot of room for improvement in efficacy."
He took two steps forward and reached out to support the unconscious Banner on Li En's shoulder.
He looked down to check the other person's breathing and pupil response, a hint of worry appearing on his face.
"Is he alright?"
He wasn't worried about whether Banner's life was in danger.
To be honest, he still doesn't know what method he can use to kill this person.
What he was worried about was the aftermath—Banner had revealed the Hulk's complete form to the military.
After today's events get out, no one can say for sure what the school will face.
Lee En did not answer the question.
He turned his head, his gaze falling on Ross, who stood to the side with a pale face, and a slight smirk appeared on his lips.
Just then, several black SUVs drove in from the direction of the school gate. They had no markings on their bodies and no police lights on their roofs.
The car stopped in front of the teaching building, and the doors opened simultaneously, from which several men in dark suits got out.
The leader walked straight up to Ross, took out his ID from his pocket, and flashed it.
"FBI, General Ross, please come with us."
Ross didn't argue or turn around. He just bent over and followed behind the other person, getting into the back seat of the black SUV.
The car door closed with a dull metallic clang.
Another FBI agent did not get on the bus.
He turned around and walked towards Frank, stopping two steps away.
He stood ramrod straight, his hands clasped in front of him, his tone businesslike.
"The President asked me to convey that you can meet alone with William Rollins of the CIA at the Brooklyn Military District in three days."
"No third party will be present, and no one will disturb you."
Upon hearing that name, Frank slowly clenched his right hand, which was hanging by his side, into a fist, his knuckles cracking twice, but he didn't reply.
Lee stepped forward and stood between Frank and the agent.
"That's really troublesome." His tone was very polite, and his facial expression matched that politeness.
"However, regarding the school's subsequent construction—when can it begin?"
The agent's cheek twitched slightly as he shifted his gaze from Frank to Lee.
His professionalism kept him smiling politely, but he spoke noticeably slower, as if he was carefully choosing his words.
"Officer Li En, as you know, in New York, the cost of construction workers is quite high, and the number of skilled workers is not large. To do this in a short period of time—"
"Hell's Kitchen has a lot of unemployed workers," Li En interrupted him, raising his hand.
"Not to mention construction workers and designers, even people digging sewers are involved."
"The federal government can just provide direct funding; I'll recruit local workers to do the work."
The agent paused for two seconds, took out his phone from his pocket, turned his back, took a few steps, and whispered something into the microphone.
About a minute later, he hung up the phone and turned around again.
"The renovation funds will be fully deposited into the Umbrella School's account before noon tomorrow."
"7
"And compensation for Banner's personal emotional distress."
"The money will arrive at the same time."
"Okay, then I'll trouble you." Li En nodded and turned to leave.
"Officer Lee," the detective called out to him from behind.
Li En stopped and turned around.
The agent took a step forward and lowered his voice so that only the two of them could hear him.
The tone also shifted from the previous businesslike manner to a more flexible one.
"Regarding that drug—the FBI hopes to cooperate with you."
"How will we cooperate?"
"We will pay for the finished drug and provide various conveniences for your research—we can help you with the procedures for equipment import, raw material allocation, and experimental permit approval."
Li En glanced at the other person but did not respond immediately.
"I can consider it." He paused. "Let me think about the specific details of the cooperation for a couple of days. At least I need to wait until Banner wakes up so I can discuss it with him and then give you an answer."
A smile returned to the detective's face as he reached out and handed it over.
"I hope we can have a pleasant collaboration."
Li En grasped that hand, with a firm but not too strong grip, shook it twice, and then let go.
After the FBI convoy left the school, everyone returned to the laboratory building.
Natasha is still here protecting the children.
The children were a little frightened; several of the younger girls had red eyes, but no one was injured.
Once she was safe, she took the children to Damon's room, handed them over to him, and then returned to the lab.
Banner was awake, leaning against the lab bed, wearing a white lab coat he had taken from the break room, and holding a cup of hot coffee.
His face was still a little pale, but his eyes had regained focus.
Li En moved a chair to the edge of the bed and sat down, quickly reviewing what had just happened.
From the moment Ross led his team into the lab to the moment Hulk dismantled the entire escort squad and armed helicopter in the wasteland.
Then the Brooklyn military base was reduced to ruins, and finally the FBI took Ross away. The federal government agreed to pay compensation and renovate the school.
The information is abundant, but his narrative style is very straightforward; he simply states the facts without embellishment.
Banner listened quietly, and when he heard Ross being taken away by the FBI, he gently ran his fingers along the rim of his coffee cup twice.
He didn't show any gloating expression; he simply nodded slightly.
"He is, after all, Betty's father." Banner placed the cup on the bedside table.
"I won't plead for him, but I don't want to see him ruined like this."
"Let him stand trial, and let him be sentenced according to the law. That's enough."
He paused for a moment, as if gathering his thoughts, before speaking again.
"Actually, I wasn't angry because he tried to take the medicine."
"What angered me was something else—he stood in front of me and never mentioned Betty's name once."
"It seems that his daughter lying in the hospital in a coma has absolutely nothing to do with him leading troops in today to steal the medicine."
At the moment he was shot, before he became the Hulk.
The last thought that flashed through my mind wasn't anger, but something colder than anger.
The chill had dissipated, and he didn't want to bring it up again.
Lee En did not pursue the topic of Betty further.
He picked up Connors's experimental records from the table, flipped through a couple of pages, and changed the subject.
"Regarding the pharmaceuticals, the FBI wanted to cooperate with us. They would pay for the finished products and help us streamline the processes of importing equipment and obtaining experimental approvals."
He looked up, his gaze sweeping across Banner, Connors, and Frank in turn.
"So we need to set a price first, how much to sell it for, we need to have a figure."
"It'll cost at least a million," Connors said as he walked over from the lab bench, taking off his gloves as he spoke, his tone tinged with uncertainty.
In his view, the G virus and T virus are actually highly replicable.
If you put a few white mice in a closed space, the virus will multiply rapidly.
From a purely cost perspective, a profit of one million is already quite high.
Banner nodded in approval.
He was a physicist by training, but he worked with Connors on biological experiments for a period of time and gained a direct understanding of the virus’s reproductive efficiency.
From a purely technical point of view, the cost of this thing is indeed frighteningly low.
Frank leaned against the wall, arms crossed over his chest, and shook his head after listening to the two of them finish speaking.
"How could it be so cheap?"
He straightened up from the wall and walked into the middle of the crowd.
"This thing can treat amputations and paralysis, and that alone is more valuable than all the prostheses and rehabilitation programs currently on the market."
"If you ask me, the price can be set even higher, and it must be so high that those health insurance companies can't swallow it all at once."
When he mentioned the health insurance company, his masseter muscle bulged below his occipital bone.
"Too many veterans have hidden injuries."
"Knee cartilage wear and tear, lumbar disc herniation, hearing loss."
"These injuries don't even meet the military's rating standards, so the insurance company is using that as a reason to refuse compensation."
"Delaying treatment year after year turns minor injuries into major ones, eventually leading to amputations or paralysis."
"Those who died in the corridors of the veterans' hospital never even touched a decent piece of rehabilitation equipment."
His voice never rose, but each word sounded like it was being pressed into a magazine and pushed into a gun barrel.
Li En thought for a moment and then said, "A complete dragon blood potion is not just for treating paralysis and amputation."
"It can enhance overall physical fitness, repair most chronic injuries, and even have a certain life-extending effect."
"A finished product of this caliber shouldn't be overpriced at ten million."
He held up one finger, then a second one.
"But if it's just for treatment, such as helping a paraplegic patient stand up again, or helping an amputee patient regenerate a limb, the full dose shouldn't be needed."
He turned to Banner and Connors.
"You can test it. If only one-tenth of the dose is needed to achieve the therapeutic effect, then price it at one million."
"If one-twentieth or even one-fiftieth is enough, the price can be driven down even further."
He paused for a moment, then moved his fingers away from his face and tapped them lightly on the table.
"It can even be made into dragon's blood tablets, by diluting the concentration of cell nutrition agents and making them into oral tablets."
"Common illnesses such as colds, inflammation, and wound infections can be overcome by the body's own immune system."
"The function of dragon blood tablets is to amplify this immunity, which is theoretically entirely feasible."
Banner and Connors exchanged a glance and nodded simultaneously.
The most basic effect of Dragon Blood Potion is cell nutrition.
It provides energy to cells, accelerates cell division and repair, and enhances the speed and accuracy of the immune system's response.
The symptoms of most common diseases are essentially traces left by the battle between the immune system and pathogens in the body.
If your immune system is strong enough, many diseases won't even cause symptoms.
If it were actually made into dragon's blood tablets, this stuff could be considered a near-universal, readily available medicine.
Banner suddenly smiled, leaned back against the headboard of the lab bed, and his voice was relaxed.
"If we bring Dragon's Blood tablets to market, Umbrella might become the most profitable pharmaceutical company in the world."
Connors smiled and patted Banner on the shoulder.
Melinda and Natasha remained standing in the corner of the lab, without saying a word.
"Then let's set up another branch." Li En leaned back in his chair and rested his hands on his knees.
"Umbrella Pharmaceuticals sets its drug prices low, just enough to cover costs."
"As for the lab, the specific mass production process still depends on the two of you."
"No problem," Banner and Connors responded almost simultaneously.
Frank had no interest in these business matters.
From the moment the discussion entered the pricing phase, he turned around, walked to a corner of the laboratory, turned on the switch of the old-fashioned television hanging on the wall, and casually changed the channels.
The images on the screen jumped by frame by frame.
Sports games, evening shopping, weather forecasts.
Then it stopped on a news article with scrolling captions.
His hand holding the remote control hovered in mid-air, and he paused for a moment.
"Has Tony Stark gone mad? Shutting down the weapons division?"
'
The discussion in the lab came to an abrupt halt.
Everyone turned to look at the television screen at the same time.
In the scene, Tony Stark is sitting on the steps below the podium, with Colonel Rhodes beside him.
His hand was still in a plaster cast, his face was injured, and his expression was serious.
The scrolling text slowly moved down from the bottom of the screen, repeatedly playing the words he had just spoken.
"I am shutting down Stark Industries' weapons manufacturing division, effective immediately."
