Sun Wukong and I are building our business together on Flower Fruit Mountain.
Chapter 5 The Power of One Stick
In the early morning, the birdsong on Huaguo Mountain had barely begun to fill the air when it was shattered by a deafening roar of an engine.
Six black SUVs lined up and rolled over the dilapidated wooden fence outside Huaguo Mountain. The sunroof of the third car opened, and a young man wearing sunglasses leaned out, holding a megaphone, his voice booming through the morning mist!
"Listen up, monkeys of Flower Fruit Mountain! You are surrounded by Hengyuan Real Estate! You have three hours to leave, or else..."
He paused, a self-proclaimed cool smile curving his lips: "My beast-hunting team will show you what the wickedness of the world truly means."
The convoy formed a semi-circle in the square, and the car doors opened in unison. Twelve bodyguards in black filed out, the stun guns at their waists gleaming coldly in the morning light. The last to get out was an old man in a Tang suit, holding a compass. He squinted at the direction of the Water Curtain Cave and muttered under his breath, "This place has a lot of ominous energy..."
"Heavy malevolent energy?" Chen Shaojie pushed his sunglasses up and sneered, "That's perfect. Land with heavy malevolent energy is cheap, so building villas there will fetch a good price. Liu Banxian, you'd better stop chanting here. I'm here to clear the area today."
He raised his hand and waved, and the bodyguards immediately lined up and advanced towards the Water Curtain Cave.
The monkeys in the square were initially swinging on the branches, but when they saw what the newcomer was carrying, they all squeaked and shrank behind the rocks. A few baby monkeys clung to their mother's legs, peeking out with half their faces peeking, their eyes full of wariness.
Chen Shaojie was extremely pleased with himself as he watched the monkeys' reaction. He had brought so many people here today to show everyone that this mountain belonged to the Chen family.
"What are you standing there for?" he yelled at his bodyguards. "Surround the Water Curtain Cave area first. Don't let a single monkey escape. If these beasts run out and go find the animal protection association to cause trouble, it'll be a real problem."
The bodyguards quickened their pace, and the burly leader had already reached the stone steps in front of the Water Curtain Cave, his hand reaching for the stun gun at his waist.
The monkeys began to stir.
Several strong, adult male monkeys jumped down from the branches and stood in front of the Water Curtain Cave, baring their teeth and growling low warnings. The first male monkey, with golden fur all over its body, was almost as tall as an adult, and its outstretched arms formed a wall blocking the entrance to the cave.
"Heh, there really are some fearless ones." Chen Shaojie laughed even harder. "Alright, let's teach them a lesson first. Turn on the stun gun, don't kill them, just make them hurt."
The lead bodyguard nodded, pulled out a stun gun, and aimed it at the golden-haired male monkey.
His finger was on the trigger!
At that very moment, a golden light burst forth from the depths of the Water Curtain Cave without warning.
The light came so fast that no one had time to react. The bodyguard felt a sudden lightness in his hand, looked down, and saw that the stun gun was gone. He paused for two seconds, then opened his hands, revealing a bright yellow banana with green leaves, as if it had just been picked from a tree.
"What the hell?"
Before he could even think, a chorus of exclamations came from behind him. Turning around, he saw eleven companions, all holding bananas, looking completely bewildered. One of them had just pulled out a stun gun halfway, but the barrel had also turned into a banana peel, drooping limply.
Twelve people, twelve bananas.
Chen Shaojie's smile froze.
"Who the hell..."
Before he could finish speaking, the waterfall suddenly fell silent.
The white ribbon cascading down from the mountaintop seemed to have been paused; the water froze in mid-air, not a single drop falling. Then, the waterfall split in the middle, revealing a deep, dark opening.
A figure walked out of the cave entrance.
He wore golden armor and a red robe, with two pheasant feathers on his head that trembled slightly in the morning breeze. He wore lotus-silk cloud-walking shoes, and with each step he took, a golden ripple spread outward from the stone steps beneath his feet, as if he were walking on water.
Sun Wukong.
He stood expressionless on the boulder in front of the Water Curtain Cave, his gaze sweeping over the group of people below!
Chen Shaojie's legs began to tremble. Of course he recognized that face!
T-shirts and phone cases with this face printed on them are available in souvenir shops on every street corner, but standing in front of him in person feels completely different. The shimmering light on the golden armor, the unyielding sharpness in his eyes, and the iron rod in his hand, gleaming with a dark golden light—every detail tells him: this isn't cosplay, this is damn real.
"Who...who are you?" Chen Shaojie's voice changed.
Sun Wukong glanced down at him, a perfunctory smile playing on his lips: "Didn't you say yesterday you were going to wipe out my old Sun's monkey troop? What, now that we've met, you're asking who I am?"
His voice wasn't loud, but every word seemed to strike Chen Shaojie's heart.
Chen Shaojie's face turned deathly pale. He trembled and took two steps back, bumping into the car. He frantically reached for his phone, shouting, "Call the police...call the police! There's a madman here impersonating Sun Wukong to scam people..."
Sun Wukong didn't wait for him to finish speaking.
He raised his golden cudgel and gently poked it into the ground.
boom...
A golden shockwave exploded outwards from him in all directions. The ground trembled, the sirens of the SUVs went off, and the twelve bodyguards collapsed to the ground, their legs giving way.
Chen Shaojie, barely able to stand by holding onto the car door, saw Sun Wukong jump down from the rock and walk towards him step by step.
With each step he took, a golden light flowed from the golden cudgel!
Sun Wukong stood in front of Chen Shaojie, looking down at him with a calm tone, as if he were saying that the weather was nice today: "You said yesterday that these monkeys were in the way."
Chen Shaojie's mouth was moving, but he couldn't utter a single word.
"You just said you were going to do something to them? I'd like to see if you have the guts!"
The golden cudgel flicked upwards, its blade grazing Chen Shaojie's nose and creating a gust of scorching wind. Chen Shaojie's sunglasses snapped in two with a crack, sliding off his face to reveal his terrified, contorted expression.
"In these thousands of years, I, Old Sun, have been called a demon, a monkey, and a mischievous monkey," Sun Wukong's voice deepened, as if a volcano was pressing down in his chest, "but no one has ever dared to say to my face that they would touch my monkey."
He took half a step back, twirled the golden cudgel in his hand, and slammed it to the ground.
"Today, I will not kill any living beings."
Chen Shaojie had just breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this when Sun Wukong added, "It's not worth it for you, you've dirtied my old buddy!"
The Great Sage's lips curled up slightly, a smile that sent chills down one's spine.
He raised his golden cudgel and pointed it down the mountain.
"roll."
A single, simple word, yet it struck like a thunderclap in the mountains. A sudden gust of wind arose, swirling fallen leaves and dust down the mountainside.
The six SUVs, along with the bodyguards, compasses, and animal traps inside, were all swept up by the whirlwind, spinning and speeding down the mountain.
Chen Shaojie felt a blur before his eyes, and the ground beneath his feet was rushing backward. He desperately tried to grab onto something, but couldn't grasp anything.
The wind rushed into his ears, and the last thing he heard was Sun Wukong's deep, slightly mocking voice.
"Flower Fruit Mountain, that's my old Sun's territory. Even the Jade Emperor has to give me face. How dare you run wild on my old Sun's land! If there's a next time, I'll let you taste the power of my old buddy."
The whirlwind carried the convoy through the gap in the wooden fence at the entrance to the scenic area, and continued down the winding mountain road at an increasingly faster speed, finally coming to a neat stop at the roadside at the foot of the mountain.
Chen Shaojie slumped in his seat, trembling all over, his crotch soaked. He shakily pulled out his phone, dialed a number, and his voice trembled with tears: "Dad... there's a monster on the mountain... it's... it's..."
He swallowed hard, unsure how to describe the monkey in golden armor he had just seen.
Halfway up the mountain, Lin Chen slowly emerged from behind a large tree, holding a thermos in his hand. He blew on the tea leaves floating on the surface, took a sip, and clicked his tongue: "Great Sage, with your security capabilities, your annual salary should start at least at 100 million."
Sun Wukong turned his head, looked him up and down, and instead of replying, sneered, "You've been here for a while?"
"Just arrived, just arrived." Lin Chen smiled innocently. "I was just passing by and thought I'd bring you some breakfast."
He pulled a plastic bag out of his pocket, inside which were two steaming hot meat buns.
Sun Wukong looked at the bag of steamed buns, remained silent for a few seconds, and then reached out to take them. The previous times Lin Chen brought him steamed buns, he had stubbornly insisted, "I, Old Sun, don't eat mortal food." Today, however, he accepted them readily.
"So," Lin Chen leaned against the bent wooden fence, "what's your opinion on developing a tourist resort?"
Sun Wukong took a bite of the bun, his cheeks bulging, and mumbled, "What's the rush?"
"No rush, no rush." Lin Chen shook his thermos. "I'll listen to Brother Sun!"
Sun Wukong paused in his chewing of the bun, then remained silent.
Lin Chen didn't press further. He turned and started walking down the mountain, but stopped after a few steps. Without turning back, he said, "Great Sage, today it was that guy surnamed Chen who came. Who knows who will come tomorrow? We need to get the financing and approvals as soon as possible! You can drive away one group, but can you keep driving people away every day? There are still over 1000 monkeys in these mountains waiting to be fed!"
Sun Wukong's worried expression returned! He handed Lin Chen a contract. "Here, the contract with the Earth God is all set up for you!"
Lin Chen's eyes lit up, and he excitedly gripped the contract. As he turned and walked down the mountain, he said, "Brother Sun, there's no time to lose! Just wait for my good news! We're about to do something big!"
Sun Wukong watched Lin Chen's retreating figure, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"A mortal is more reliable than those guys in Heaven."
Behind us, the waterfall closed up again, the water splashing loudly.
At the foot of the mountain, Chen Shaojie's convoy finally returned to the city. He slumped in the back seat, still trembling. The driver glanced at him in the rearview mirror and cautiously asked, "Young Master, shall we still go to Flower Fruit Mountain?"
Chen Shaojie raised his pale face, his lips trembling, his voice weak: "Go to hell... If you dare mention the words 'Flower Fruit Mountain' again, I'll kick you out."
He held his phone, unsure how to describe the incident to his father!
How should he tell his dad?
"Dad, is there a real Sun Wukong on Flower Fruit Mountain who turned our stun gun into a banana?"
Who the hell would believe that if I told them?
Chen Shaojie hung up the phone, tossed it aside, closed his eyes, and his mind was filled with those golden-red eyes and that iron rod that emitted golden light. The power of that blow seemed to have shattered his courage.
Inside the Water Curtain Cave, Sun Wukong sat on his stone chair, holding the proposal paper in his hand, looking at it over and over again. He was so focused on it that he didn't notice a golden drop of water falling from the cave ceiling, landing right in the lower right corner of the proposal paper.
Sun Wukong stared at the slowly spreading drop of water in silence for a long time. Then, he pulled his golden cudgel from his ear, gazed at the millennia-old, unchanging pattern on its shaft, and murmured, "Old friend, tell me... shouldn't I, Old Sun, try earning money with my head held high?"
The golden cudgel made a humming sound, as if in response.
Sun Wukong put his staff back into his ear, stood up, and walked to the cave entrance. He parted the waterfall's curtain of water, looked down at the city lights just beginning to twinkle, and took a deep breath.
That guy named Lin Chen got one thing right.
He still has over 1000 mouths to feed! But at this moment, the Monkey King's face is completely clean!
Sun Wukong carefully folded the proposal paper, put it back in his pocket, and for the first time muttered without any sarcasm, "Fine, then let's see just how capable you mortal really are."
In the shadows of the trees on the mountainside, Lin Chen received a message on his phone.
He glanced at it and smiled.
