My Abyss Survival Diary

Chapter 78 The Game of Slaughter Begins

Lifting the tent flap, a large group of new guests came into view.

The entire "Friendly" camp was packed to the brim, and there were even many people standing outside the camp, including not only the tunnel raiders but also a number of guys that Simon didn't recognize.

Accompanied by the jingling sound of metal ornaments rattling, two sets of fanatical steam armor appeared in Simon's field of vision. They stood outside the camp maintaining order, their armor engraved with prayers and adorned with various ornaments, and equipped with hammers and heavy nail guns.

One by one, his companions stepped forward, each with an uneasy expression, filled with fear of what might happen next.

"What are they going to do?" Florian was the first to speak. "I've never seen so many people! Why are they all gathered here?"

Simon took a deep breath: "Let me make a long story short... That guy is a madman. He's the overlord of the entire second floor now. He's about to start a game. We'll play it by ear."

Just then, Karl also emerged from the tent...

He stretched out his palm, ran his fingers through his bangs, and combed all the hair back, revealing his forehead and a pair of narrow, pure black eyes. He was still the same playful man who thought he had a great sense of humor, but at this moment he exuded an eerie aura.

His smile carried something savage, a boundless ambition, and a reckless madness.

"Welcome everyone to my camp..."

"What exactly do you want, outsider? Our deal is over! Why have you summoned us here again?"

Karl was interrupted by a burly old man with a head full of gray braids and a loose robe that could not hide his strong muscles.

He had a pair of strong, grayish-white arms that didn't look like prosthetics, but rather like some kind of stone.

Carl didn't respond to him, but instead looked around:

"Everyone here should know me, and have done business with me. You should all know how many resources I have and how capable I am."

There were four cast-iron warrior armors and two fanatic armors present. Although the group did not recognize the Imperial Legion, they were all aware of the power of the steam armor.

"I've called you all here today to invite you to participate in a game." He smiled amicably. "Six of you here have led your teams to kill the offspring of the Abyss and seize the flesh of their nape as evidence. Let's get to know each other first."

He looked at the old man with the white, dirty braid.

"Elder Chalasu, a remnant of the Twilight Empire, lived with other remnants in the third layer of the Abyss. He once led his family to kill a child of the Abyss."

Charasu narrowed his eyes, his expression unfriendly.

Karl then looked to the left side of the camp, his gaze meeting that of a one-eyed old man with silver hair and a buzz cut, and another woman who was wrapped tightly in a dark green robe that resembled vines.

"Mr. Wilson and Ms. Sophia, both cave raiders, my most loyal subordinates, each led a squad that killed off the offspring of the abyss."

The silver-haired, short-haired old man nodded to Karl, while the woman, who was completely wrapped in her robes, bowed respectfully to him.

Karl looked towards the camp entrance, where a man wearing a metal helmet and whose body was encased in a thick protective suit stood.

"There was also an adventurer employed by the Empire. He wouldn't tell me his name, but he also led his adventurer group to kill the offspring of the Abyss."

Simon sized up the man, whose helmet peephole was pointed at Simon's position.

"And this one, a nun forgotten on the second level of the Abyss. She descended to the third level alone and killed the offspring of the Abyss despite the obstruction of the heretics."

Karl politely raised his hand, aiming at the figure with long, white hair in the crowd.

A nun? Appearing on the second floor?

A commotion of discontent erupted from the crowd, indicating that most people here were hostile to the Blazing Sun Empire.

Simon looked at the woman; she had the long hair that was the hallmark of the Sisters of the Hammer and wore an eyepatch over her left eye.

At this moment, Carl looked at Simon with a smile on his face.

"Finally, there was another hero who killed the offspring of the abyss, and that was Simon! He was the one who killed the hungry angel."

Upon hearing the name "Hungry Angel," the discussion grew even noisier, and all eyes turned to Simon.

"Incredible. I thought that monster could only be dealt with by the Empire's watchdogs."

"I didn't realize he was this good."

"Look! He even keeps enemy heads in cages as trophies!"

Flannery bared her teeth, preventing those around her from approaching, while Klein cautiously placed his hand on his dagger.

Carl continued:

"Everyone here has killed the offspring of the Abyss and made deals with me, handing over the flesh of the Abyss's offspring as evidence of their sins."

This means that he possesses six pieces of flesh containing evidence of the Abyss's offspring's sins, placing him at the forefront of research on the Abyss by various factions.

"I'd like you all to participate in my game..."

Karl looked at Elder Chalasou, the mysterious adventurer, and the nun.

"The winner will have everything. I promise you that as long as you win the game, I will grant your wishes, whatever they may be."

"How many years have you been trapped in this abyss? Ten years? Twenty years? Do you yearn to return to the outside world, or do you long to fulfill certain wishes?"

The nun sighed and was the first to nod in agreement. The adventurer raised his hand to agree a moment later, and Elder Chalasou was the last to do so.

The old man clasped his hands together and finally nodded in agreement.

He clearly knew everyone present very well. After they made their deal, Karl must have sent people to investigate their backgrounds. In the harsh environment of the abyss, everyone has unfulfilled wishes. Karl used their wishes to easily lure them into the game.

Needless to say, the two tunnel raiders were inherently profit-driven individuals, and Carl must have given them benefits beforehand to get them involved in the game.

Carl smiled and opened his arms wide...

"Therefore, I hereby declare the Slaughter Game officially open!"

Slaughter Game, a terrible name.

Carl, the organizer, snapped his fingers loudly, and two burly tunnel raiders carried out six glass jars from the camp's warehouse.

The glass jar contained some kind of wasp, but these were clearly more agitated than regular wasps, frantically ramming against the jar walls and looking quite menacing.

"These are carrion-eating bees," Flora whispered in Simon's ear. "They feed on carrion, are extremely aggressive by nature, and will actively attack humans or prey."

Six glass jars containing the Killer Bees were placed in front of everyone.

"Next, I will explain the rules of the Slaughter Game."
