My Abyss Survival Diary

Chapter 56 The Real Killer Appears

Elphis was shot and fell down. Simon reacted quickly and dragged him into the dense bushes.

I helped him turn over and checked the wound on his back...

The wound looked small, but Simon discovered shrapnel inside—thorn bullets! The kind of bullets that cave raiders commonly used to kill monsters.

He looked up and saw the person who fired the shot standing on the slope, looking down at them.

Firearms expert, Brock.

He carried Klein's silenced sniper rifle and fired from the edge of the camp, a precise shot piercing Elphis's heart from behind.

"You're old. If it were five years ago, you should have been able to easily detect my betrayal." He leisurely took out a cigarette from his coat pocket, lit it, and took a puff. "But now you're both stubborn and dull-witted. Even if you suspect that coward Pique, you haven't suspected me."

Instead of running away, he slowly walked towards Simon's direction, strolling leisurely as if taking a walk.

"Brock!" Elphis's voice was hoarse, his eyes wide behind the mask. "The seed in the can is you..."

"That's right! I put that purple sunflower seed in the can." He readily admitted, "I secretly fed the seed to the strange birds that Pick kept. After we got to the first floor, I secretly killed one of them when Pick wasn't looking, and then took out the seed and stuffed it into the can."

Simon's memory flashes back to the ruins where he sees Pike chatting with a strange bird in a cage. It turns out that this is because one of his pet birds was killed, and he is investigating.

Brock continued smugly, "It doesn't matter who eats that seed. If you eat it, my goal can be easily achieved. If a sinner eats it, I can sow discord among you and make you kill each other before you even start fighting the Hungry Angel."

As Simon listened to his account, his expression turned cold. He desperately suppressed the urge to fire, determined to wait until the big mouth spilled all the information before dealing with him.

"But it's a pity, Brother Simon stopped the culprits in time, preventing the conflict from escalating further. What a pity..."

Elphis coughed up blood and asked that question:

"You've been with me for so long, why...?"

Brock grinned.

"Because you betrayed the Cave Thieves, it's that simple."

He looked down at Elphis with disdain, then at Simon.

"This old geezer didn't tell you anything, did he? You really think he's one of the leaders of the cave raiders, the legendary cave raider Elphis?"

"Isn't that right?" Simon gripped the Iron Fist pistol tightly, pointing the muzzle at Brock's face.

He wanted to know how many hidden secrets were involved.

Brock casually exhaled a large puff of smoke, the smile on his lips looking both greasy and disgusting.

"The tomb raiders are like rats in the gutter, content to eat the scraps left by the empire, since the people behind them will always foot the bill. But what about this guy? I don't know what got into him, daring to provoke the empire, even daring to run wild on empire territory for the sake of evidence!"

His words answered Simon's doubts.

Why did the tunnel raiders dare to appear on the Empire's territory? It wasn't that the tunnel raiders were bold, but simply that Elphis was incredibly audacious.

"His radicalism is a major headache for the organization. The other three leaders of the Cave Thieves voted to strip him of his authority as leader. He is not qualified to let the organization take you out of the abyss. Everything he said before was a lie. From the beginning, he had no ability to take you out at all!"

Simon gripped the gun handle tightly, glancing briefly at Elphis.

He guessed that the cave raider couldn't take him out of the abyss, and he guessed many reasons, but he never expected it to be this.

Brock threw down his cigarette and crushed it out with his boot.

"Even after being stripped of his power, this guy remains incorrigible. In order to collect evidence of his crimes, he continues to offend the Empire. The other leaders of the Cave Thieves don't want this guy to continue causing trouble, so they sent me to quietly eliminate him. The price wasn't high, but it satisfied me."

Elphis let out a weak, cold laugh: "Ha, you foolish piece of trash, you have no idea how precious this piece of incriminating flesh is! You betrayed me for such a paltry gain..."

"Their petty gains will benefit me for life, while your grand 'ideals' will only lead us to hell."

Block stopped arguing with him and turned to look at Simon.

"Brother Simon, how about we cooperate? That piece of flesh containing evidence of your sins is very valuable, and you are also a rare talent. Let's work together."

"Let's kill Elphis together, remove his mask, and as long as we bring his mask and that piece of flesh as evidence to my employer, we'll never have to worry about food or drink for the rest of our lives."

Logically, with Elphis dead, cooperating with Brock would be the best option...

But Simon was unwilling to cooperate with a treacherous traitor.

That guy could easily betray the boss he'd followed for years, and he could easily betray him too.

"You disgust me, Brock," Simon replied decisively. "I refuse!"

boom--

Two gunshots rang out simultaneously; the two men fired almost at the same time. The cunning fellow had a pistol hidden in his pocket, waiting for Simon to refuse to fire again.

Neither of their bullets hit each other, and the gunshots simultaneously attracted the attention of the people in the camp. Klein and his men appeared at the edge of the camp and peered towards their location.

"I have no desire to fight a monster like you," Brock chuckled, preparing to make his escape. "Goodbye, Simon, until we meet again."

Do you think I'd let you escape?

Suddenly, Brock casually threw something to the ground. Simon instinctively tried to dodge, but upon closer inspection, he realized it was a white syringe!

click-

The syringe shattered, and the white liquid seeped into the soil.

The white injection, whose main ingredient is the bone marrow of the hunted beast, is used to... inhibit the spread of toxins within the abyss, and also acts as an inhibitor of the purple injection!

Simon looked at the group at the edge of the camp. They were still unaware of what was happening and were slowly approaching their location.

In the crowd, the once adorable little girl, Florian, now looked like a mature woman. She hadn't listened to Elphis and injected the white serum!

Even more terrifying is that Elphis once used a white syringe to treat the sinner who ate the purple sunflower, meaning that the white syringe that Brock broke was the last one!

"This is a choice, Simon. Will you waste your time with me, or will you go and save your companions?" He smiled slyly. "That little girl can be deadly when she gets crazy."

After saying that, Brock turned and ran straight into the depths of the forest!

boom--

Simon pulled the trigger again; the bullet grazed the bastard's shoulder, but wasn't fatal.

Oh no, oh no...

"Control Flanye! Use a rope or knock her unconscious, get her under control now!" Simon shouted to his companion as he turned around.

Flannery was terrified and didn't know what to do, while Badal and Bell were completely bewildered. Klein, however, reacted quickly and grabbed a gun...

But the next second, the girl's body underwent a strange change.
