"Hey! Brown!" Alex greeted him warmly.

Brown glanced at Richard:

"Another new partner? And another Chinese-American?"

Alex was helpless:

"There's nothing we can do, CHAN doesn't want to do it."

Brown grinned mischievously and patted Richard on the shoulder:

"BRO, how does the corpse smell? Did you vomit like a woman just now?"

Richard shrugged:

"It seems you have a lot of experience with vomiting."

Brown wasn't angry; he just glanced at Richard with some surprise and then burst into laughter.

"Hey! GUY! You're different from other students at Tokyo University, I like you!"

The three of them worked together to load the body onto the cart. Richard offered to help push the cart, which made Brown happy to save himself some effort.

Alex was confused, but nothing else happened, so he went in with them.

The three of them walked through the passageway connected by the back door, at the end of which was an elevator.

The morgue at Nancy Health Center is on the basement floor. It's eerily quiet with its stark white lights, and aside from Brown, nobody usually wants to come here.

The Nancy Health Center was lax in its management of the morgue; the three of them walked along without seeing a single person.

Brown, like a chatterbox who'd been holding back for a long time, kept rambling on and on.

He swiped his card to open the morgue, and a chilling cold air escaped.

Alex had been here a few times, and even he couldn't help but shudder.

The cold, stainless steel morgue cabinets occupied two walls, totaling 30, but only 21 of the cabinet doors had the names of the deceased and some simple information written on the key cards.

Richard quickly counted them once.

20 corpses!

Richard was tempted and wanted to touch them all, but unfortunately Alex and Brown were nearby, and he might get kicked out if he acted like a necrophiliac.

Richard helped Brown stuff the body into the narrow morgue.

Finally, the cabinet door was slammed shut.

Brown was in a good mood because someone was helping him with the work.

Richard seized the opportunity and said:

"Hey bro, I'm looking for a part-time job, any opportunities at the morgue?"

Alex finally understood:

"It seems you're really short of money."

Richard shrugged:

"I'm just an international student from an ordinary family. It would be great if I could earn some money."

Brown was quite straightforward:

"OK! I like you! I'll help you! But I'm just an assistant. I can talk to the supervisor, but Karim doesn't like Asians... Don't get your hopes up too high."

Karim... Richard glanced at the refrigerated display case again, but suppressed the urge to rush up and touch it, and followed Alex out of the morgue.

Brown has acquired a new body; he'll be busy with all sorts of paperwork for its storage.

Back in the car, Alex said:

"If you really want to find a job, I can find you a handyman position in my advisor's lab. However, since you're underage, the pay will be very low."

The handyman shouldn't have much contact with the corpses.

Richard silently assessed the situation and politely declined:

"Alex, I have to attend classes during the day, and AP courses are very difficult. I don't have time to do odd jobs. Guarding the morgue is a good job; it's mostly easy and doesn't interfere with my studies."

Alex understands:

"Okay, I'll ask around for you and see if any of my senior colleagues work at Nancy Health Center."

Richard was quite surprised; it was their first meeting, yet Alex was so enthusiastic.

Thanks.

Just then, Richard's phone rang. He picked it up and saw it was Tang Yuanfan, the landlord of his host family.

Tang Yuanfan is a foreign trade businessman and a first-generation immigrant. He had some business dealings with Richard's father and usually took good care of Richard.

Richard answered the phone:

"Uncle Tang?"

"Richard, why aren't you home yet? Have you run into some trouble?" Tang Yuanfan's deep voice came through, his tone filled with worry.

"No, I found a part-time job and I'll be back soon." Richard was just about to tell Tang Yuanfan about changing host families, so he brought it up at the same time.

"That's good. You can call me if you get into trouble. Come back as soon as possible; it's not safe in New York at night."

"Thank you, Uncle Tang."

......

Tang Yuanfan hung up the phone, glanced at his daughter lying on the sofa playing on her phone, and immediately felt a surge of anger.

Tang Yuqing was having a lively video chat with her best friend.

Tang Yuanfan felt a surge of irritation. He was in the foreign trade business and had immigrated to the United States for business convenience; he didn't particularly like the country.

Unfortunately, my daughter grew up in America, hanging out with a bunch of Black and White people every day, and she wasn't willing to learn Chinese.

Tang Yuqing dresses provocatively, wears unattractive Asian makeup every day, and talks about cheerleaders, dates, and parties all the time. Her behavior has become completely Westernized, which gives him a huge headache.

What worries Tang Yuanfan the most is that Tang Yuqing's grades are terrible, and she will most likely only be able to attend a community college in the future.

Richard was the good kid in Tang Yuanfan's eyes. He was hardworking, ambitious, and never got involved in the messy stuff of American teenagers. He would definitely get into a top 50 university, and his future was many times better than Tang Yuqing's.

Tang Yuanfan said in Chinese:

"Yuqing, you should go study. Your AP math is really bad. Richard's coming later, you can ask him about the questions you don't understand..."

Tang Yuqing felt annoyed as soon as she heard Richard's name. He was a NERD from the University of Tokyo, a country bumpkin who made all Chinese people lose face, a nobody at school, and her father would nag him about it every day.

When will that guy finally leave his house?!

Tang Yuqing can understand Chinese, but she never speaks Chinese:

"OK! OK! I'm going to read now! Don't bother me!"

She grabbed her phone and quickly went back to her room.

boom!

The door was slammed shut.

Tang Yuanfan was furious.

......

Half an hour later, when Richard walked into the Tang family home, Tang Yuqing was sitting barefoot in the kitchen eating snacks.

To be fair, she is quite good-looking, with fair skin and a tall figure, standing at 1.75 meters. She is quite a pretty girl.

Unfortunately, that disgusting Asian makeup was utterly repulsive.

The exaggeratedly long eye corners and the ugly droopy eyebrows are simply an eyesore.

Richard nodded to Tang Yuqing.

Tang Yuqing didn't move, and lazily glanced at him.

A white hoodie, a light-colored T-shirt, a pair of cheap jeans, and a pair of cheap $30 sneakers.

A penniless man with less than $200 on his entire body, not even worth as much as a pair of his shoes.

Poor bastard!

Tang Yuanfan put down his phone and asked with concern:

"Why did you suddenly start a part-time job? Are you having some financial difficulties?"

The Li family is not poor, but their situation is complicated.

Richard smiled:

"No, I just want to do some social practice, which is necessary for my college application."

"That's good." Tang Yuanfan didn't think much of it; this was normal in America.

Richard said solemnly:

"Uncle Tang, I'm planning to move out and find a new family."

Tang Yuanfan was somewhat surprised and instinctively glanced at Tang Yuqing:

"What's wrong? Are you not comfortable staying here?"

Tang Yuqing was instantly furious. Why are you looking at me like that!

What business is it of mine if he wants to leave!

Richard had already prepared his explanation:

"No, Uncle Tang takes good care of me. But it's a bit far from here, so I found a family home closer to the school, in YC Apartments, where I can walk to school every day."

In the United States, some homestay families provide transportation, while others do not.

Tang Yuanfan is very busy with work, and business has been bad lately, so he simply doesn't have time to take the two of them to school.

Tang Yuqing was secretly pleased.

This country bumpkin is finally leaving!

To avoid embarrassing herself, she never allowed Richard to say at school that he lived in her home.

Now that's great, this guy is finally gone!

Tang Yuanfan felt relieved when he heard it was YC Apartment.

YC Apartments is a mid-to-high-end apartment building.

It seemed that the new host family was much better off financially than his own, so he wasn't worried that Richard would be scammed.

Tang Yuanfan smiled and said:

"That's great, that's great. Even your Uncle Tang can't afford to live in YC Apartments, but you can."

Richard casually said:

"If Uncle Tang wants to live here, I'll find an opportunity to buy him a house in the future."

After Richard obtains the Necromancer System, he will inevitably reach the pinnacle in the future, and an apartment is nothing to him.

Tang Yuanfan always took good care of him, especially when he first came to America and was unfamiliar with everything. Thanks to Tang Yuanfan for running around taking care of him.

In daily life, Tang Yuanfan treated Richard no differently than Tang Yuqing, almost like his own son.

Upon hearing this, Tang Yuqing rolled her eyes.

childish!

I thought Richard was an honest, bookish nerd, but it turns out he's quite the talkative fellow.

Before you buy a YC apartment, think about how many years it will take to repay your student loans.

"Hahaha!" Tang Yuanfan laughed, taking the words as childish kindness.

In his view, before work and marriage, everyone is a child.

"Then I'll be waiting to enjoy your good fortune. Once you're ready, I'll drive and help you move."

Tang Yuqing pursed her lips in disapproval.

Richard smiled:

"Uncle Tang, I'm going back to my room to study."

After Richard left, Tang Yuqing happily hummed a song.

Tang Yuanfan felt something was wrong the more he thought about it. Why did they suddenly want to move out?

It must have been Tang Yuqing who was behind this!

He had originally planned to have Richard give Tang Yuqing some positive influence, and maybe even guide her well.

Who knew that this little brat would actually drive them away?

Richard is such a good boy.

It must be Tang Yuqing's doing!

Tang Yuanfan glared at Tang Yuqing, finding her makeup increasingly displeasing.

"If you don't get a GPA of 3 this semester, your allowance will be cut in half!"

Tang Yuqing immediately jumped up:

"Dad! This isn't fair!"

"Fair? Richard got 5s in all his subjects! My expectations are already very low!"

"Damn it! It's that penniless bastard again!" Tang Yuqing stormed back to her room, her dissatisfaction with Richard growing stronger.

If it weren't for Richard, I wouldn't have been scolded by my father.

This is America, not Tokyo University.

Who in school would care about a bookworm?

Sports, dating, parties—a wonderful and happy high school life awaits me.

Who has time to care about GPA!
