Mythical Luo, starting with the fox spirit
Chapter 43 Personnel Screening
Yang Ping'an held up the crystal ball in his hand and walked back and forth, putting pressure on the Taoist priests.
Hearing Yang Ping'an's words, the many Taoist priests sitting there felt uneasy, even those who believed they had not done anything to harm the Yang family, and couldn't help but swallow hard.
The Taoist priest who had been caught red-handed by Yang Ping'an for eating for free, and the Taoist priest who had poured the tea, both had shifty eyes and were sweating profusely.
"Now, everyone come up one by one to be tested, starting with you," Yang Ping'an said, walking to the spot near the door and pointing to the first Taoist priest.
The Taoist priest immediately opened his eyes wide and looked around at his companions. Everyone was paying attention to him. He then looked at Yang Ping'an, who was standing by the door.
"It's you. No need to look anymore, hurry up and take the test." Yang Ping'an urged him to take the test quickly when he saw that he was still hesitating.
Under the tense gaze of everyone, the Taoist priest took a deep breath, walked nervously to Yang Ping'an, and placed his hand on the crystal ball.
"Have you done anything bad that would harm the Yang family?" Yang Ping'an glanced at him, pulled his mind into a mental space that Yang Ping'an had created, and asked directly.
"I have never done anything to harm my family." Faced with Yang Ping'an's direct and honest question, the Taoist priest answered blankly.
"Have you ever done anything wrong by taking advantage of your status in the Yang family?" Yang Ping'an continued to ask him his second question.
"No." The Taoist priest answered Yang Ping'an's question quickly without hesitation.
Within this spiritual space, Yang Ping'an can sense the emotional changes of others through his divine sense. This is one of the few abilities Yang Ping'an possesses that will not harm the minds of others or infringe upon their privacy.
Yang Ping'an carefully observed the Taoist's emotional changes. He was only nervous at first, but he did not feel guilty or hesitant.
Having confirmed that he had not done anything to harm the Yang family, Yang Ping'an silently channeled a stream of golden magic power into the crystal ball.
"Hmm, you've passed. Keep up the good work, and the family won't treat you unfairly." Yang Ping'an kicked his mind out of his mental space and took out a bottle of Qi-replenishing pills from his sleeve as a reward.
"Thank you for the reward, sir." The Taoist priest happily accepted the reward. Although he was curious about his previous state, he was now only happy to have received three Qi-replenishing pills.
Taoist priests like him could receive six Qi-replenishing pills from the Yang family every month. These pills were life-saving medicines for front-line Taoist priests like them.
They can quickly replenish their mana during battle, preventing them from dying at the hands of the enemy due to mana depletion.
What pleased him most was that Yang Ping'an gave him only high-quality Qi-replenishing pills, which were twice as effective as the pills he had used before. Not only was his mana recovery faster, but the effects also lasted longer.
Although Yang Ping'an didn't need these pills, his grandfather still sent him his share every month, which accumulated into a considerable fortune over more than a decade.
Yang Ping'an used these useless pills to reward the loyal Taoist priests of the Yang family, which can be considered a way to make use of waste.
"Following the previous order, the next one will come up for the test." Yang Ping'an nodded his thanks to the Taoist priest and continued to call another Taoist priest.
To the other Taoist priests, the Taoist priest simply placed his hand on the crystal ball and answered two simple questions from Yang Ping'an, and the crystal ball emitted a golden light.
They breathed a sigh of relief when they saw that the Taoist priest was unharmed. It seemed that the crystal ball magic weapon would not cause them any harm, and the pills that the Taoist priest had obtained were something they were all somewhat envious of.
So, the Taoist priest who was second in line walked forward with his head held high, hoping to pass the test and receive the elixir as a reward from Yang Ping'an.
"I'll ask you a question, and you answer it. Have you ever done anything bad that would be detrimental to the Yang family?" Yang Ping'an once again pulled his mind into the mental space and asked him.
The Taoist priest felt a sense of disorientation and found himself in a mysterious space. He heard Yang Ping'an's question, but he didn't see Yang Ping'an; he was alone in the empty, mysterious space.
Like being in a dark sea of stars, he felt as insignificant as a speck of dust, experiencing an indescribable fear and tension.
"I've never done anything like this before," the Taoist priest blurted out nervously.
"Have you ever abused your power to bully others and damage the Yang family's reputation?" Yang Ping'an carefully discerned his emotions and continued to ask.
"I have always considered it my duty to protect the family, and I have never done anything to damage the family's reputation," the Taoist priest replied without hesitation.
Yang Ping'an confirmed that he was not lying, and then channeled another stream of golden magic power into the crystal ball, causing it to emit golden light.
"Hmm, you passed. Here's your reward." Yang Ping'an pulled him out of the mental space and took out a bottle of Qi-replenishing pills.
"Thank you, sir. I will dedicate myself to the family until my dying breath." He accepted the pill with both hands, holding it protectively in his arms as if afraid that someone else would snatch it away.
"Next one." Yang Ping'an observed the group of Taoists one by one.
Seeing that their colleagues ahead of them had all received Yang Ping'an's rewards, the group of Taoists worried that Yang Ping'an wouldn't have enough pills for them, and eagerly wanted to take the test themselves.
Soon, Yang Ping'an finished testing the group of Taoists and gave each of them a bottle of Qi-replenishing pills.
Now only the two Taoist priests who ate and served tea were left. They were very eager to see their former companions receive rewards, but they clearly understood what they had done.
"It's just the two of you left. Who wants to go first for the test?" Yang Ping'an looked at the two Taoist priests with a half-smile.
"Sir, everyone has passed the test, so there's no need for us to take it again," the Taoist priest who was pouring tea said with an awkward smile.
"Yes, it's really unnecessary." Yang Ping'an was about to speak when his divine sense saw a group of Taoist priests, led by the one guarding the gate, rushing towards them menacingly.
"Mayor, that guy is inside," the gatekeeper said obsequiously, pointing to the gate.
"You did a good job. From now on, you are the deputy mayor, second only to the mayor." The mayor squinted his narrow eyes, patted the gatekeeper on the shoulder, and praised him.
"Yes, kick down the gate and arrest that evil Taoist priest who dares to forge the Yang family's token." The town mayor stood in front of the gate, directing his Taoist priests to break down the door and enter.
"Yes, sir." The two Taoist priests responded and stepped forward, each kicking one of the two large doors.
Two clanging sounds were heard, but the two large doors remained unmoved.
"What's wrong with you two? Didn't you eat?" Seeing the mayor narrow his eyes, the gatekeeper Taoist priest immediately stepped forward and, taking advantage of the mayor's authority, reprimanded the two Taoist priests who had failed in their duties.
"This, sir, there's something strange about this gate. It's been bewitched." The two Taoist priests who kicked the door felt their feet throbbing and almost couldn't stand up, so they quickly tried to defend themselves.
"Huh? You've done a poor job and you still dare to argue!" The gatekeeper Taoist priest, who had just been promoted, was immediately challenged by someone. He arrogantly slapped the two Taoist priests, one of them at a time.
The two Taoist priests dared not speak out in anger. Seeing the town mayor's cold eyes, they lowered their heads in resentment.
