Chen Mo rushed forward with his earthen shield to try and block it, but a claw slammed into the shield, cracking it. Chen Mo slid seven or eight meters away with the shield, leaving three deep, bone-revealing claw marks on his arm.

Shadow Wolf stood in the center of the hall, without even moving.

The two royal Shadow Wolves behind it did not make a move.

They simply blocked the exit of the hall completely, their eerie green pupils sweeping over the trembling citizens in the corner as if they were looking at a flock of lambs to the slaughter.

Their mission is not to kill, but to ensure that no one can disturb His Highness the Emperor.

The Shadow Abyss Wolf that had attacked flicked its tail, its eerie green pupils sweeping over Bai Li and the others once more.

There was no murderous intent in its eyes, only a condescending, cat-and-mouse-like interest in its gaze.

"Is anyone else here?" it asked.

In a corner of the hall, forty-odd citizens huddled together. The cries of a baby echoed through the empty hall.

Bai Li glanced at Xia Xia, who was lying against the wall, and then at Jiang Ran, Chen Mo, and Song Zhiyi, who had been sent flying.

Then, she slowly stood in front of everyone.

Her summoning ability is Rank A, and her summoned beast is a Shadow Cat.

Although this Shadow Cat was at the second-tier level 1, it was no match for the second-tier level 5 Shadow Abyss royal family.

Even so, Bai Li still chose to stand there.

Then it made a very soft gurgling sound from deep in its throat.

That was laughter.

It raised a paw and swatted at the Shadow Cat like it was swatting a fly.

Just as the claw was about to strike...

A silver-purple arc of lightning pierced the air from the direction of the hall entrance.

The curved blade was incredibly fast, striking precisely the Shadow Wolf's claw as it slapped at the Shadow Cat.

The lightning exploded, and the Shadow Abyss Wolf's paw was blasted to one side, missing its target. Its massive body staggered half a step due to inertia.

A voice came from the entrance of the hall.
