The apocalypse begins with a dungeon game.

Chapter 36 The Kind Capitalist

"A mere trick." Bai Zhuo stood in the center of the encirclement, looking at the puppets around him, and used his energy.

Just as the puppets rushed towards him from all directions, a dazzling white light erupted with a deafening boom, shattering everything in its path.

The puppets were instantly torn into pieces by the powerful shockwave, flying into the air before falling to the ground piece by piece.

These fragments became nourishment for the land in the peach orchard.

Li Can quickly severed the mental bond between himself and the puppets, but it was too late. He hadn't expected this person to attack without holding back at all, and he was no match for him.

The light waves spread outwards, and just as they were about to reach Li Can, he activated the [Diamond Shield] to protect himself and the earthen mound behind him.

That's how they escaped disaster.

A notification popped into his head: the remaining number of times the reaction force of the Vajra Shield was activated was 8.

A metallic taste rose in Li Can's throat, but he didn't show it on his face. He just suppressed it and swallowed the blood back down.

At this moment, after his own small experiment, Li Can was somewhat convinced of Bai Zhuo's self-talk.

The forest was left in a mess after being vandalized.

The peach petals, in full bloom above the branches, swirled and danced in the wind.

The refreshing fragrance of flowers permeates the woods.

Bai Zhuo looked up at Li Can, a look of curiosity on his face.

"What, are you sure I'm real now?"

He reached out and brushed off the leaves and petals that had fallen on his shoulders and head, seemingly in a fairly good mood.

"You're the first guy who dared to try fighting me after knowing my identity. You're quite courageous."

"But I was a bit impulsive, wasn't I? It's only because I find you interesting that I didn't intend to kill you. Otherwise, even if I were the winner, what chance do you think you have of winning against me?"

"Winning chances? I'm not after that thing. Since I've forced you to take action, I've already achieved my goal." Li Can also brushed off the remaining branches and leaves on his body.

"Just for this?" Bai Zhuo seemed puzzled, looking at him leisurely, as if waiting for Li Can to continue.

The two stood facing each other, neither too close nor too far apart.

Amidst the pervasive sense of impending doom, an eerie harmony was somehow achieved.

"Just for that. Secondly, I also want to know what your purpose is in establishing this base." Li Can looked at the countdown to the destruction of Blue Star in his mind and was no longer willing to beat around the bush with him.

He casually stuck the shovel into the nearby mud and sat down on a large rock.

He appeared calm and collected, showing no signs of backlash, but it was all an act.

But he didn't regret making the move rashly.

Seeing this, Bai Zhuo also stepped over and stood next to Li Can, the two of them shoulder to shoulder, squeezed together.

"Establishing a base is of course to consolidate capitalist rule. Otherwise, why would I waste my time? Am I supposed to be a philanthropist in the apocalypse?"

Li Can listened to his words, stretched her slightly sore shoulders, and asked, "What benefits will you get?"

He now wants to figure out his position. He can't go back now, and his only source of information is to try to extract information from his few words.

Then they stitch together and reconstruct the apocalyptic scenario from ten years ago.

This is important to him as he is about to leave the game.

"..." Bai Zhuo remained silent for a long time, then coughed a few times.

Seemingly sensing a hint of embarrassment, he picked up a small stick from the ground and poked at the dirt in front of him.

"Never mind, it's not a big deal to tell you the truth."

"I'm a kind-hearted capitalist, and as for evil, at least my conscience wouldn't allow it."

"The primary purpose of establishing the base was to organize the survivors together to fight against the zombies in the apocalypse. I myself could also live a more comfortable life and benefit from it, which is indeed true."

"But I don't just accept awakened superhumans; I accept ordinary people too. There's no one else as kind as me to accept those useless people."

"I provide them with food and shelter just to get that tiny bit of profit out of them, tsk."

Listening to his slightly contradictory words, Li Can analyzed, "That really does seem impressive, but according to the rules Chen Qi mentioned before, the base doesn't recruit ordinary people, right?"

Bai Zhuo put down the stick he was holding and threw it on the ground, furious.

"How long she's been trapped in this instance is all in the past; every day in the apocalypse is a new situation."

"Don't believe me? I even have photos."

As he spoke, he conjured a phone out of thin air from an unknown place, opened it in his palm, unlocked it, and began swiping the screen, searching through the photo album.

He exclaimed in surprise, then, with great interest, he froze on the page he had just turned to, and, as if they were old friends, tugged at Li Can's sleeve to show him.

"There are many things that ordinary people can do. We just arrange for them to do what they are capable of, based on their individual physical conditions."

Li Can looked at the photo on the screen in the direction his finger was pointing; it showed a large group of people gathered together.

Opposite them were rows of huge iron cages, imprisoning groups of mutated zombies.

They each performed their duties methodically in the slightly dim environment.

One by one, the zombies were pressed onto a specially prepared platform, and their heads were cut off.

In the transparent bucket next to it, there were crystal nuclei covered with thick blood plasma, most of them a common light green color.

"Some of the superhumans go out to run dungeons to earn prizes, while others go out to the city to clean up zombies. The zombies they can catch are handed over to ordinary people to deal with, since superhumans' time is precious and they can't do such dirty and lousy work."

"It would be just right to leave it to ordinary people to do, so that they can earn a living."

"They are responsible for all the daily tasks at the base, including cleaning and cooking."

As Bai Zhuo spoke, he swiped through the photos until he stopped on the last one.

He looked at the person in the photo, then glanced at Li Can's reaction from the side.

"I told you I'm a kind-hearted capitalist."

In the darkness, the glowing phone screen displays a scene that seems to be from before the apocalypse.

In the spacious factory, busy workers were washing and chopping vegetables, while several women squatted on the ground, busy with their tasks.

On the opposite side, at the edge of the row of stoves, male and female cooks were stirring food in the pots.

Their faces showed no fear, but rather a sense of peace and tranquility as they focused on adding seasonings and checking the doneness of the dish.

Li Can's gaze was drawn to one of the couples.

The man, sleeves rolled up, was sweating profusely by the stove, holding a large iron shovel as big as the one he had used to dig and bury the earth earlier.

The woman next to him carefully wiped the sweat from his forehead, which was caused by the cooking fumes, with a rag.

These two people were his parents, whom he had been thinking about for a long time.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Bai Zhuo asked anxiously, seemingly waiting for Li Can's agreement and praise.

Li Can's expression froze for a moment. After seeing his parents' current state, he finally felt a sense of peace.

Seeing that they were at least doing well for the moment, and had not died in the apocalypse, and now had a place to go under the management of Bai Zhuo, was the greatest comfort to him who had traveled to the wasteland apocalypse ten years later.

"I'm telling you, alien, you really are something else! You seem to know nothing at all, I'm almost starting to believe your nonsense."

"How about it? Join the base after you get out. I'll personally arrange for you to form your own superpowered team." Bai Zhuo finally revealed what he wanted to say.

With a smug look on his face, he swiped the screen to the next picture, which turned into a scene of superhumans hunting zombies.
