Newbie Guardians

Chapter 49, Died

Back at the academy, the seven of them, along with Ouyang Nishang, who was in a state of apparent death, went to Zhuge Ming's office. After reporting the entire incident, Zhuge Ming instructed Vice Principal Yao Qi to take care of Ouyang Nishang and told the others to leave first. Only Huang Xin was left behind. Iris and Hannah wanted to stay outside the door, but Zhuge Ming persuaded them to leave.

After locking the door, Zhuge Ming placed the crystal ball on the table, forming a protective barrier. Only then did he slowly speak:

"Huang Xin, do you know why it was so difficult for you to embark on the path of the Guardian?"

Huang Shen scratched his head habitually and said:

"I have no idea."

"Twelve years ago, you died once."

"No...no way...how come I'm still alive and well?"

"Because your grandfather took you into the underworld and made a three-life promise before the contract stone. The price was that every time you died, you would lose a soul. Your soul would remain in the underworld forever, undergoing the challenge of eternal reincarnation. That's why you died once and lost a soul. Although you are exceptionally talented, you lack wisdom and find it difficult to understand many things."

"Oh, I see! But, Principal, how do you know all this? And why are you suddenly telling me?"

"Because of Elise's appearance. She seems to have seen a point in the future where you might play a crucial role, so she absolutely cannot let you die."

"Um... Mr. Principal, I don't quite understand, and I can't think of any use for myself at all. I even feel particularly bad, that I can't do anything, and that I can only hide behind my teammates every time."

"So, child, do you want to see your own future for yourself?"

"Is it really possible?"

Zhuge Ming smiled kindly and said softly:

"I spent billions on materials to let you experience the future. So you must promise me that whatever you see, you must tell me the truth."

"Understood, Headmaster. What should I do?"

Zhuge Ming put away the crystal ball, opened the door to the secret chamber, and led Huang Xin into the chamber. The door then closed slowly and automatically.

Zhuge Ming made Huang Xin kneel before the ancient mirror and slowly said:

"There are three ancient mirrors in this world. The one for the elves can see destiny, the one for the underworld can see the future, and we humans can only see the present. Last time you disappeared, I used this ancient mirror to see you with a little girl around your waist, galloping on your mount."

"Oh! I see!"

"This time, I will use a special method to draw out your soul and send it to the ancient mirror in the underworld. Therefore, it will require an extremely large amount of precious materials. A few billion is already a conservative estimate. You must pay close attention and memorize all the details."

"Yes, Principal, I understand!"

"Are you ready?"

"Um!"

Zhuge Ming formed a hand seal and chanted a long string of complex incantations. The ancient mirror emitted a white light that continuously shone on Huang Xin.

Huang Xin found himself in a valley, the temperature was very low, and he could faintly hear the sound of turbulent water. He thought to himself:

"Where is this? I've never been here before."

Suddenly, Hannah and Iris's voices came at the same time.

"Huang Xin! Watch out!"

When Huang Xin looked around, he realized that everyone was there, including many classmates he didn't recognize or who he had seen before but couldn't recall their names.

She saw a person rushing towards her, with Hannah close behind, looking anxious and constantly launching attacks, clearly trying her best to stop the other person from getting closer.

Huang Xin quickly slid backward, and the arrow shot out. The dynamic visual effect provided by Eagle Eye allowed him to accurately lock onto the target even while moving at high speed.

With a thud, the arrow was blocked, but the attacker's speed didn't decrease; his spear, like a bolt of lightning, pierced towards Huang Xin's chest. He had already used up his sliding step; there was no way to dodge. Was he going to die?

A green figure flashed by, and with a thud, a woman stood in front of Huang Xin. The spear pierced through her, and warm blood splattered on Huang Xin's face. The woman's body was dragged by the spear and fell backward. Huang Xin saw it clearly; it was the beautiful senior who had greeted him when he came to the academy to register—Lin Yuxi.

Hannah's heart-wrenching cries came through.

"Sister! Sister!"

Is Lin Yuxi Hanna'er's older sister? What's going on?

Upon seeing that the deceased was Lin Yuxi, the newcomer's eyes turned bloodshot. He drew his sword and fiercely slashed at Huang Xin. Huang Xin, enraged, ignored the attack and fired three arrows at him. Unfortunately, the arrows failed to penetrate the armor and were deflected to the ground.

A chill ran down Huang Xin's neck, and he realized he had become a spirit. He watched as his head flew high into the air. The next second, Elise, who was rushing towards him, suddenly stopped and fell to the ground dead.

She died too! What happened?

Huang Xin floated over to check, and found that Elise had no wounds on her body; she had died inexplicably.

Mu Lingshan's voice, choked with sobs, rang out. Huang Xin turned around and saw Mu Lingshan cradling his head in her hands. The jade pendant around his neck had also flown over and was being held tightly in Mu Lingshan's grasp. Her eyes were filled with tears as she murmured to herself:

"It's you! How could it be you? Why is this happening?"

Tears streamed down Mu Lingshan's face as she tightly embraced Huang Xin's head. Blood stained her chest, revealing her alluring fullness and highlighting a jade pendant whose outline was remarkably similar to the one Huang Xin wore. That was left to her by her grandfather; how did she have one too?

Just as Huang Xin was wondering what was going on, he heard Hanna let out a mournful wail like that of a vengeful ghost. Immediately afterward, Hanna loudly chanted a spell and shouted:

"Forbidden Technique - Transformation into Asura!"

Then came another incantation.

"Forbidden Technique - Blood Demon Possession!"

Huang Xin's heart skipped a beat, a strong sense of unease surged through him, and he roared loudly:

"don't want!"

However, no one could hear the voice of the spirit. They could only watch helplessly as Hannah transformed into a woman shrouded in black energy, wielding two willow blades that also emitted black energy. With a flash, a head flew high into the air, followed by another flash and another head flying up.

After transforming, Hannah was like the Grim Reaper descending. In less than three minutes, she wiped out all the opponents, except for the person who had just ambushed Huang Xin, whose whereabouts were unknown.

After slaughtering all the enemies, Hannah discarded her willow blade, and the black aura around her gradually dissipated. She walked back with difficulty, her back hunched, her hair white and lusterless, like a pile of withered grass. Her once vibrant and pretty face was now covered with deep wrinkles, and her bright eyes had become cloudy.

Huang Xin finally understood that this was the price of using forbidden techniques. It was all his fault for being so useless; if he hadn't been so impulsive, she wouldn't have had to suffer so much.

Watching Hannah struggle to walk, Huang Xin's heart was bleeding, and his eyes were filled with regret and guilt.
