Journey Through the Heavens: Starting with Chinese Martial Arts!
Chapter 2 Hunting in the Mountains
……
Before long, evening arrived during the training session. Chen Jueshang was soaking wet, as if he had been pulled out of the water. His muscles were stretched, but his fists trembled a few times.
After practicing for more than three hours, even an iron man would get tired, let alone Chen Jueshang, who is not an iron man but only a first-stage martial artist. He was going all out to break through to the second stage of Qi Condensation.
"Gurgle~" Just as he stopped practicing his boxing, Chen Jueshang suddenly heard a long growl from his stomach. Clearly, under such high-intensity boxing training, his body was sounding the alarm for him to eat.
"While ordinary beast meat is rich in energy for ordinary people, it's still too little for martial artists. It seems I have no choice but to risk venturing into Dragon Lake Mountain!"
Chen Jueshang understood that if he wanted meat to nourish him, he could only go into the mountains to hunt those weak beasts, preferably those that had undergone the same first transformation as him.
"Dinner's ready, Jueshang." Soon after, Chen's mother's voice came from inside the house.
Chen Jueshang entered the house.
……
"Father, I'm going into the mountains tomorrow." The previously silent atmosphere of the meal was broken when Chen Jueshang suddenly spoke.
Chen's mother's hand trembled, and she turned her head to look at her son. Chen's father made a nasal "hmm" sound and continued to pick up food and eat rice.
Clearly, he was not surprised by Chen Jueshang's words.
Chen's mother hesitated, but seeing that her husband hadn't stopped her, she wanted to say a few more words of advice.
"Stop trying to persuade him. You know that proper nutrition is the most important thing for martial arts training. We don't have the ability to stop him from moving forward," Mr. Chen said suddenly, putting down his chopsticks.
Upon hearing this, Chen's mother ate her meal in silence.
……
The next morning, the sky was bright, and the white clouds resembled mist.
Chen Jueshang got up early, slung the black bow from the backyard over his shoulder, hung the quiver made of animal hide over his shoulder, and left home with a wood-chopping knife that had been chipped in several places in his hand.
Early in the morning, some chimneys in Chenjiazhuang were already emitting wisps of smoke, and figures began to appear on the rammed earth road. Chen Jueshang greeted everyone he met politely.
These people were slightly surprised to see him dressed in hunting attire, but they were used to it.
Chenjiazhuang is called a village, but it is actually a city-state built against a wall.
Because of its proximity to Longhu Mountain, where beast tides frequently erupt, and the fact that the Feather Clan is located next door, it would be very difficult to survive without building city walls.
Soon, Chen Jueshang left Chenjiazhuang and quickly ran towards Longhu Mountain, moving swiftly like a cheetah on the run.
……
Longhu Mountain is a place of beautiful scenery, with lush trees and the occasional roar of beasts. The deep forests seem to harbor a ferocious wild beast, making people shudder.
This place is named after a lake where a small dragon once transformed into a jiao (a type of dragon), but whether this is true or not, Chen Jueshang has no idea.
Time has faded everything, including things from the past.
Chen Jueshang did not rush into the mountains. Instead, he first chose a place, and after he had filled his stomach and rested, he slowly stepped into the forest.
Although there are wild beasts in the mountains, they are hard to find. The outer areas are mostly inhabited by ordinary wild animals, but they are not Chen Jueshang's target.
Holding a wood-chopping knife, Chen Jueshang moved cautiously, keeping his eyes and ears open. If he noticed anything unusual, he would immediately stop and observe the situation.
You only have one life, so it's always good to be cautious.
"It's too quiet." Chen Jueshang sensed a hint of danger. Before entering the mountain, the roars of beasts rose and fell, but now that he was inside, the environment was eerily quiet. All he could hear were the chirping of insects and the rustling of leaves.
It's hard not to feel uneasy.
However uneasy he was, Chen Jueshang had no intention of leaving. He had not yet found the wild beasts he needed for martial arts training, so how could he be willing to leave?
Before they knew it, it was noon. Chen Jueshang had already ventured deep into the inner boundary area, but still hadn't seen any trace of the wild beasts.
Of course, he didn't come away empty-handed; he collected some medicinal herbs needed for practicing his martial arts along the way.
However, he still hadn't seen any wild beasts, and as it was getting closer to noon, Chen Jueshang had the idea of leaving.
"Roar!!" However, just as Chen Jueshang turned to leave, a thunderous roar resounded through the mountains and forests, startling birds and beasts and causing the treetops to rustle.
"It's a wild beast!" Chen Jueshang rushed towards the direction of the sound. Such a powerful and awe-inspiring roar could only come from a wild beast.
Even the great insect, hailed as the king of beasts, cannot make such a sound.
The source of the sound was not far from where Chen Jueshang was. It took a while, and as he got closer, his footsteps became lighter and lighter.
Even before entering the inner perimeter, Chen Jueshang used ordinary medicinal herbs to make a mud paste that could erase his own scent and smear it all over his body to cover up the unique human odor.
All this knowledge was taught to him by his second uncle, Chen Xun.
After a long while, Chen Jueshang gently parted the grass, revealing a gap to observe, his dark and bright eyes fixed on the front.
On the not-so-large lawn, a wild beast resembling both a tiger and a lion roared and howled.
It stands nearly five meters tall at the shoulder and is about nine meters long. It is enormous, with scarlet eyes and protruding fangs, resembling a giant beast from the mountains and seas.
Opposite the behemoth was a winged girl flying in mid-air.
She had exquisite features and a striking face. Her shimmering golden hair cascaded over her shoulders, and her fair fingers held a bronze halberd. Tall and clad in bronze armor, she exuded a heroic and valiant air, resembling a female warrior who commanded battle.
"Feather Clan member, what is she doing here!? And she even clashed with a second-stage molting tiger-lion beast?"
Chen Jueshang slowed his breathing, his eyes serious and puzzled, but that did not stop him from carefully taking down the bow he was carrying and drawing an arrow to nock.
"Roar!!" The liger roared to the sky and pounced forward, its huge body resembling a small mountain, its aura oppressive.
Facing the tiger-lion beast's attack, the winged girl was fearless. She flapped her pure white wings, held a long spear, and engaged in a fierce battle with the beast.
Although the tiger-lion beast lacked aerial advantage, its powerful physique prevented the winged girl from inflicting fatal damage despite her thrusts with her long spear.
It is worth mentioning that the winged girl is also a second-stage molting martial artist.
Chen Jueshang held his breath and focused his mind, trying to minimize the risk of exposing himself, but his eyes subtly scanned the man and the beast.
"It's a pity the birdman isn't a wild beast. Otherwise, after both sides are exhausted, I could harvest them. With two second-stage wild beasts, I could support my cultivation for a while." He thought to himself, regretting it.
Bang bang bang—rocks shattered, trees collapsed, and the sounds of a man and a beast fighting were no less than the sound of a plowing operation.
However, Chen Jueshang chose a relatively remote location, so unless the intensity of the fighting continues to rise, it is basically impossible for him to be affected.
They held out for half an hour, and both the man and the beast were nearly exhausted. After all, they had only undergone two physical transformations and could not fight for a long time.
"Pfft!" The winged girl flew through the air, panting, and threw her bronze halberd with all her might.
In an instant, the long spear, like a flying arrow, plunged deep into the tiger-lion beast's head through its eye, and blood splattered everywhere.
"Roar!!!" The tiger-lion beast roared to the sky, its face contorted in a ferocious expression, wanting to retaliate. However, because the bronze halberd had pierced its brain, just as it was about to pounce, its massive body swayed and collapsed with a crash.
"Whoosh!" Just as the winged girl threw her long halberd, Chen Jueshang seized the opportunity and immediately shot out the arrow he had prepared.
The target is the winged girl!
The instant the arrow was shot, he immediately picked up the wood-chopping knife on the ground, turned around and ran, without the slightest hesitation.
