Traveling Through Journey to the West: I Am the Dragon King
Chapter 25 Conferring the Title of Dragon Lord
After the White Crane Fairy left, a majestic imperial edict resounded within the Lingxiao Palace: "Dragon God, Yun Chonghua, ascend the throne to receive your investiture!"
Upon hearing the Jade Emperor's decree, Yun Chonghua quickly straightened his clothes and slowly walked up to the Lingxiao Palace.
The spirit official on duty had been accompanying him the whole time. After they had walked the required number of steps, he raised his hand to signal Chonghua to stand still and bow.
Yun Chonghua had previously witnessed the celestial beings bowing to the Jade Emperor in the Lingxiao Palace.
Now they follow suit without making a single mistake.
The Jade Emperor gazed at Chonghua in the hall, and felt a deep admiration for him.
This wasn't just because Yun Chonghua had helped him solve a major problem, saving his face and his daughter. It was also because he admired Yun Chonghua's humility and willingness to descend to the mortal realm to uphold his honor.
The Jade Emperor then inquired of the head of the Kehan Division, "True Lord Kehan Division Elder," asking where in the lower realm of the Southern Continent, a dragon god was still needed.
However, after checking, True Lord Han Sizhang said, "Your Majesty, in the Southern Continent, all four rivers under the four seas are full, except for the Si River, which is currently lacking a river god in charge."
Upon hearing Ke Hansi's report, the Jade Emperor's face was full of disdain.
The most important water system in the sacred land of China in Jambudvipa is the Four Rivers.
Originally, he planned to choose a high-ranking official for Chonghua, at least a top-ranking one, and then find an opportunity to transfer him back to the top.
However, the old man was preoccupied with the affairs of the heavens and earth and had no time to attend to the appointment and removal of such a minor river god. Little did he know that the waters of the four rivers were already full.
But that's how the rules are. The Jade Emperor asked helplessly, "Chonghua, there are no vacancies for the Four Rivers Dragon Gods. Would you be willing to become a Dragon Lord of the Si River? If not, I can find you a position of equal rank in Heaven."
Upon hearing this, Chonghua wisely said, "This official position, whether large or small, is bestowed by His Majesty's grace, and I, Xiaolong, am willing to accept it."
Upon hearing this, even the Jade Emperor couldn't help but let a smile cross his usually stern face.
So His Majesty the Jade Emperor said, "Very well. Since you are willing to go, then I shall appoint you as the 'Dragon Lord of the Sishui River.' But where is Han Si?"
Upon hearing this, Han Sizhangren Zhenjun immediately stepped out of the ranks and said, "Your subject is here!"
His Majesty the Jade Emperor continued, "I hereby bestow upon Yun Chonghua the title of Dragon Lord of the Sishui River. I grant him an immortal register, a jade tablet, and a purple incense burner. Take him to the Kehan Division to collect these items, and then he shall descend to the mortal realm to assume his post."
Having received His Majesty's instructions, both Han Si's father-in-law, True Lord, and Yun Chonghua withdrew from Lingxiao Palace and headed to Han Si.
On the way to Kehansi, the True Lord of Kehansi treated Chonghua with great courtesy and politeness.
After inquiring about his age, he praised him for being young and promising.
Upon inquiring about his background, they would beam with smiles and praise his good fortune in achieving such a remarkable leap in life. They used every flattering phrase imaginable.
Faced with this True Lord's flattery, Yun Chonghua felt a little strange, but he still politely replied with a sanctimonious air.
They kept talking about how they would have to rely on the immortals when they became officials in the mortal realm, and that everything they said was to share the burdens of His Majesty.
Once inside Kehan Division, Yun Chonghua wrote his name on the Immortal Register.
He accepted the divine decree of investiture, the jade tablet, and a finely crafted little bell personally handed to him by True Lord Kehan Si.
However, Yun Chonghua also understood Ke Hansi's responsibilities after seeing Ke Hansi and his group.
The Heavenly Court's Department of Personnel and Supervision is essentially its personnel department and oversight department, managing personnel appointments and dismissals, performance evaluations of all deities, and oversight. Deities in the mortal realm can only reach the Heavenly Court through the Department of Personnel and Supervision.
After Yun Chonghua received the gifts, he was given another round of commercial praise before being personally escorted out of Kehansi by the True Lord, the father-in-law of Kehansi.
Although it feels good to be admired by everyone, it is indeed a bit mentally exhausting.
Yun Chonghua also sighed, whether in heaven or on earth, the four words "human relationships and worldly wisdom" are something that cannot be avoided.
Although Yun Chonghua felt a bit tired, he wasn't afraid. After all, he had dealt with this kind of thing quite a bit in his previous life. Now that he had been reincarnated as a deity, he could put his skills to good use.
Before descending to the mortal realm after leaving Kehansi, Yun Chonghua wanted to visit his great benefactor, Nezha.
Nezha saved him, gave him magical weapons, and taught him skills.
If it weren't for him, I'd probably still be locked up in the imperial kitchen, waiting to be made into a dish at the Peach Banquet. How could I possibly have the glory I enjoy today?
He's a man who clearly distinguishes between gratitude and resentment. He repays debts of gratitude and kindness even more so, especially since it was a life-saving favor.
Moreover, Nezha treated him very well and did not look down on him because he was a miscellaneous dragon. He even lowered himself to call him brother.
Having made up his mind, Yun Chonghua headed straight for the Yunlou Palace.
But on his way to Yunlou Palace, he first encountered two acquaintances.
Not far ahead, two celestial officials approached. One was a human immortal, and the other was a fox that had cultivated into human form. These two were the same celestial officials who had captured him but then secretly released him.
Upon seeing the two, Yun Chonghua was immediately overjoyed.
He stepped forward, about to greet the two of them.
But when the two celestial officials saw the tablet in his hand, they stopped and immediately stepped aside, bowing respectfully to Yun Chonghua and making way for him.
Upon seeing their humble attitude, Yun Chonghua was taken aback.
But the two celestial officials saw that the deity in front of them did not leave, but just kept staring at them.
The fox spirit glanced up at Yun Chonghua, recognizing him as a "human immortal," and knowing that celestial beings generally disliked animals like them. She immediately gave a wink to the celestial official beside her.
The celestial official, understanding the implication, asked, "May I ask what orders Your Majesty has for this humble immortal?"
Upon hearing this, Yun Chonghua immediately said, "You really don't recognize me at all?"
Upon hearing Yun Chonghua speak, both celestial officials felt that the voice sounded somewhat familiar, but looking at his appearance, they dared not confirm it.
The fox spirit said obsequiously, "Please forgive my poor eyesight and limited knowledge. I did not recognize your identity, Lord God. Please forgive me."
Seeing the two of them like this, Chonghua quickly said, "It's me, I'm Yun Chonghua."
But after hearing this, the two celestial officials looked at each other with puzzled expressions, neither of them knowing who "Yun Chonghua" was.
It was only then that Chonghua realized that although they had been with him for a long time, he had never introduced himself to them.
Yun Chonghua said, "It's the little dragon you captured and handed over to the Third Prince a while ago!"
Upon hearing this and recalling the familiar voice, the two were immediately terrified. The fox spirit bristled, and both knelt before Yun Chonghua, saying, "Divine Lord, please forgive us! We were blind and ignorant, and have offended you. We did not intend to capture you; we were merely following orders from our superiors. Please forgive us, Divine Lord, for our rudeness."
The two of them kowtowed repeatedly to Yun Chonghua.
Seeing the two men like this, Yun Chonghua quickly helped them up, saying, "What are you doing? When did I ever blame you? Although you captured me, you were kind enough to let me go. If you two hadn't secretly released me, I wouldn't be where I am today. I'm grateful to you, how could I possibly blame you?"
But neither of them believed a single punctuation mark of Chonghua's words.
Having lived in the immortal realm for hundreds of years, these two were intimately familiar with the ways of the world and understood the unspoken subtext between each other.
But precisely because they know it so well, they become overly sensitive and overthink things.
In their minds, Yun Chonghua's words, translated into Chinese, meant, "I've never forgotten the grudge between you two. If it weren't for you two bastards dragging me to heaven, I wouldn't be where I am today. We'll have plenty of opportunities to deal with you two in the future."
The two of them were naturally terrified.
If Chonghua were just an ordinary minor immortal, the two of them wouldn't be so afraid, but seeing the "Jade Tablet" in his hand terrified them.
Upon hearing this, the fox spirit feigned ignorance and immediately said, "Since the Divine Lord is so magnanimous and doesn't hold our faults against us lowly immortals, then this lowly immortal will leave now and won't offend the Divine Lord's eyes."
Having said that, the fox spirit and the celestial official stood up, turned around, and quickly left. No matter how Yun Chonghua called out, they only ran faster. In a flash, they disappeared from sight.
Seeing this, Chonghua could only shake his head helplessly.
