Chapter 133 How about we make a bet?
Chapter 133 How about we make a bet?
Lin Dong's lips twitched.
"Know."
The door closed.
Chen Guo leaned back in his chair, looking at him with a smile.
"Principal Wang cares about you a lot."
Lin Dong nodded.
Chen Guo waved his hand.
"Alright, go ahead. Call me if you need anything."
Lin Dong stood up and walked out.
Stepping out of the administration building, the sunlight was a bit too bright.
It was worth the trip.
I haven't been to class for over a month; the leave was approved by Chen Guo, so I can't be rude. He's giving me face, so I should accept it. Coming over to say hello and thank you is a matter of attitude. It'll make it easier to ask for help in the future.
Principal Wang's presence was somewhat unexpected. But he remembered his words: "If you need anything, feel free to contact the school."
Shenzhen University is not an ordinary school.
Shenzhen University, a "son" of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, has received substantial financial and resource support despite being only a little over a decade old. The Shenzhen municipal government's support for Shenzhen University is among the best in the country. Its alumni are found in all sectors of Shenzhen, including both political and business circles.
In the future, if mobile phones need promotion, distribution channels, or government relations, Shenzhen University can help.
So this trip is not only about expressing gratitude, but also about paving the way.
He pulled himself out of his thoughts and continued walking.
"Lin Dong?"
A voice came from the side.
He turned his head.
Song Yao stood a few meters away, wearing a light blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up to her forearms, holding several documents in her hand, looking at him. Her hair was tied in a ponytail, gleaming in the sunlight.
Lin Dong stopped in his tracks.
"Teacher Song."
Song Yao walked over and looked him up and down.
She had taken more than a month's leave. Although she had just become a counselor, she had never seen anything like it. Even when she was a student, she had never heard of anyone taking such a long leave.
What's even more outrageous is that the supervisor approved it, and judging from the tone, a month wasn't enough; they could stay as long as they wanted. She was a little suspicious; what exactly did this student do? But she didn't dare ask too many questions.
"You're back?"
Lin Dong nodded.
Song Yao looked at him and asked with some curiosity.
"Are you done with your work?"
Lin Dong thought for a moment.
Although she's my advisor, we've only seen each other a few times since the start of the semester, and that's just a casual conversation about taking leave. We haven't seen each other for over a month, so we're not exactly close. There's no need to tell her too much about company matters.
"That's considered the end of it."
Song Yao nodded and didn't ask any further questions.
"Although I don't know what you've been busy with, I want to tell you that university life is very important. What I miss most after graduating is university, so I came back to be a teacher."
Lin Dong glanced at her.
I came back to be a teacher right after graduation. I've never really been out in the workforce and don't know what the outside world is like.
In her eyes, university is probably the best place. But that's good, campus life is always gentler than society, and being able to stay in such a place for a few more years is a blessing.
"Yes, I will, Teacher Song."
Song Yao looked at him with a hint of relief in her eyes.
"Okay, then..."
"7
She suddenly remembered something, and her eyes lit up.
"Oh, wait a minute."
Song Yao turned and walked towards the office. Her steps were much faster than before, and her ponytail swayed behind her head.
Lin Dong stood there, watching her jog away, a little puzzled.
Two minutes later, she ran back with a notebook in her hand, a slightly embarrassed smile on her face, her cheeks flushed from running.
"Didn't you say you were going to take leave? I was worried you wouldn't be able to keep up. It was my first time being a tutor, so I sat in on every class and took notes for you."
She handed the notebook over.
Here, take it.
Lin Dong paused for a moment, then took the notebook with some surprise.
I never expected her to take notes for me.
He flipped through it and glanced at it. The handwriting was neat, every stroke clear and legible. The date, content, and key points of each lesson were listed one by one. Some parts were marked with red asterisks, with the words "Required" written next to them.
He looked at it for two seconds, then looked up.
The notes are so detailed; it's not just something done casually, but something done with care. I took more than a month off, worried he wouldn't keep up and might fail. Being a counselor to this extent warms my heart.
"Thank you, Teacher Song."
Song Yao waved her hand, a smile playing on her lips.
"Don't thank me. You've missed more than a month of classes, so go back and catch up. You can't fail."
She looked at him, her tone slightly playful, her eyes crinkling.
"Otherwise, all this note-taking will have been for nothing."
Lin Dong's lips twitched.
Failing a course? Not likely. He works on those major courses every day at his company; it would be a joke if he couldn't even pass the final exam. But these notes show he put in real effort.
"Don't worry, it won't hang."
Song Yao raised an eyebrow and looked him up and down.
"So confident?"
Lin Dong looked at her and suddenly felt a little playful.
"How about we make a bet?"
Song Yao paused for a moment, looked at Lin Dong, smiled, and said defiantly, "Okay, what are we betting on?"
Lin Dong thought for a moment.
"If I die, I'll treat you to dinner. If I don't die—"
He paused, then glanced at her.
"You're treating me."
Song Yao blinked and curled her lips.
"Why should I treat you to dinner if you hang up, but I should treat you if you don't? No matter how you look at it, I'm the one who loses out."
Lin Dong smiled.
"Then tell me what to bet on."
Song Yao tilted her head and thought for a moment, her ponytail tilting to one side. After two seconds, her eyes lit up.
"If you fail your exam, you have to buy me milk tea for a month."
Lin Dong looked at her.
"And what about you?"
Song Yao raised her chin confidently.
"What about me? You weren't supposed to die in the first place."
Lin Dong's lips twitched.
That's quite a clever plan.
He nodded.
"OK.
Song Yao smiled, her eyes curving into two crescent moons.
"Then it's settled."
She waved her hand, her ponytail swaying behind her head.
"Alright, go ahead."
Lin Dong nodded, put the notebook away, and turned to walk back to the dormitory.
After taking a couple of steps, he remembered something, turned a corner, and headed towards the guardhouse.
Two large bags of things are still there.
Inside the security room.
Lin Dong picked up two large bags, weighed them in his hands: braised goose, fried noodles, kebabs, and a few bottles of drinks. Zheng Hao had bought quite a lot.
He carried his things and walked towards the dormitory.
501.
Lin Dong stood at the door.
The door was closed.
He heard people talking inside.
It was Li Hu's voice.
"When do you think the fourth brother will be back? It's been over a month since we last saw him."
Then came Chen Long's voice.
"What's the rush? He'll come back when he's supposed to."
Lin Dong's lips twitched.
He took a deep breath and raised his hand to knock on the door.
"Who is it?" Li Hu's voice came from inside, sounding a little impatient, as if he was arguing with someone.
"I."
The door suddenly opened.
Li Hu stood at the door, his hair disheveled, wearing a wrinkled T-shirt. He paused for a moment when he saw Lin Dong, then his initial impatience instantly turned into a smile.
"Damn it, fourth brother! You finally decided to come back?"
Lin Dong carried the things inside.
"I brought some food."
Li Hu's eyes lit up, and he pounced over, snatched the bag, and started rummaging through it.
"Braised goose! Fried noodles! Grilled skewers! And drinks! Fourth brother, you're like my own brother!"
Chen Long leaned against the headboard, holding a book in his hand. Hearing the noise, he looked up and glanced at Lin Dong.
"I hadn't seen you for over a month, and I thought you had disappeared."
Lin Dong put the things on the table.
"My family just moved here, and I go back to help out after class, so I haven't been back to the dorm much."
With his mouth full of fried noodles, Li Hu mumbled, "All moved?"
Lin Dong nodded.
"That's about it."
Chen Long didn't ask any more questions. He put down his book, took a skewer of grilled meat from his bag, and leaned against the headboard to eat it slowly. Xu Zang sat up in bed, came over, took a box of fried noodles, and ate it quietly without saying a word.
Li Hu, his mouth greasy and cheeks bulging, looked up at Lin Dong.
"Will you come back to live here again in the future?"
Lin Dong thought for a moment.
In the months leading up to the Lunar New Year, the R&D team mainly focused on data collection and parameter adjustments. Zhang Mingyuan and his team were enough to keep an eye on things; he didn't need to be at the company every day. He should be able to stay in the dormitory for the next two months.
"Yes. Nothing much has happened these past two months; I've been staying in the dorm."
Li Hu's eyes lit up.
"real?"
Lin Dong nodded.
"Um"
Xin Lihu smiled and turned to grab his phone.
"Okay, for the next two months you'll be there every day..."
'
He suddenly stopped, his eyes darted around, and he turned to look at Lin Dong.
"wrong."
Lin Dong looked at him.
"What's wrong?"
Li Hu put down his phone, leaned against the headboard, crossed his arms, and looked serious.
"Fourth brother, you haven't been back for over a month, are you just going to let it go like this?"
Chen Long was stunned for a moment, then realized what was happening, put down the skewers, and nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, he hasn't been back for over a month, shouldn't they give us an explanation?"
Lin Dong looked at them.
"I just brought braised goose, stir-fried rice noodles, and grilled skewers."
Li Hu waved his hand.
"That was a greeting gift. The punishment is something else."
Chen Long chimed in from the side.
"Exactly! You haven't shown up for over a month, the brothers were worried sick, you have to do something for them, right?"
Li Hu got more and more excited as he talked, and sat up in bed, counting on his fingers.
"Look, it's been over a month since National Day. You've been having a great time out there, while the three of us are stuck in the dorm."
.
"Okay, fourth brother, you treat everyone to a meal. Just that grilled fish place next to the school, it's not expensive."
Chen Long nodded.
"That's a good option."
Li Hu's eyes lit up, and he raised the stakes again.
"Let's have another barbecue."
Chen Long nodded again.
"That's also an option."
Seeing that Lin Dong remained silent, Li Hu grew even bolder.
"Let's have another hot pot meal. Hot pot is a must in winter."
Chen Long nodded in agreement.
"Yes, yes, hot pot."
Lin Dong looked at the two of them, and the corners of his mouth twitched.
"Is there anything else?"
Li Hu thought for a moment, then cautiously said, "How about adding another buffet meal?"
Chen Long glanced at him.
That's enough.
Li Hu chuckled.
"I'm just fighting for the benefits for my brothers."
Lin Dong leaned against the headboard, watching the two of them sing in harmony.
Before Li Hu could say anything more, Xu Zang suddenly spoke up.
"How dare you say that?"
Xu Zang put down his chopsticks, took out the small notebook from under his pillow, and opened it.
"Li Hu came back on October 19th and stayed one night. He has stayed one night in total since the National Day holiday."
Li Hu opened his mouth.
Xu Zang turned another page.
"Chen Long came back and stayed one night on October 19th and another night on October 20th. He's stayed a total of two nights since the National Day holiday."
Chen Long fell silent.
Xu Zang closed the notebook and glanced at them.
"One of you stayed for two nights, and the other for one night. How dare you criticize the fourth brother?"
Li Hu and Chen Long exchanged a glance and remained silent.
Lin Dong's lips twitched.
Xu Zang said again.
"The fourth brother hasn't been back for over a month because of some family matters. What about you guys?"
Li Hu scratched his head and muttered to himself.
"I also have some things to do at home—"
Xu Zang looked at him.
"What's wrong at home?"
Li Hu fell silent.
Chen Long coughed and pretended to look out the window.
Li Hu held back for a while, then suddenly slapped his thigh.
"That's different! It's a small matter if something happens in my family, but it's a big matter if something happens in the fourth brother's family. Of course, a big matter deserves more meals."
Chen Long immediately followed.
"Yes, yes, yes, please invite us for important events, and less for trivial ones. The fourth brother's family just moved in, this is a big event, we should celebrate properly."
The two of them sang in harmony, getting more and more excited as they talked.
Xu Zang glanced at them, too lazy to say anything more, and continued eating his fried noodles.
Li Hu's eyes darted around, and suddenly another idea came to him.
"But fourth brother, treating him to a meal isn't enough."
Lin Dong looked at him.
"What else?"
Li Hu chuckled and rubbed his hands together.
"Those senior girls from last time, you know, Senior Chen Lu and her group, when are you going to invite them out for a meal?"
Chen Long's eyes lit up, and he came over as well.
"Yes, yes, that's a good idea."
Li Hu counted on his fingers.
"Senior Chen Lu, and her two roommates—"
"Zhou Lin, Zhao Yu," Chen Long continued.
Li Hu slapped his thigh.
"Yes, yes, Zhou Lin, Zhao Yu! Fourth brother, could you invite Chen Lu's roommate to come out for dinner?"
Lin Dong looked at him.
"Which one would you like to call?"
Li Hu scratched his head, looking a little embarrassed, which was unusual for him.
"That one—the one with the short hair, Zhou Lin. I saw her at the grilled fish restaurant last time; she's the one who talks quite frankly."
Chen Long laughed beside him.
"Do you still remember what that person's name is?"
Li Hu glared at him.
"Mind your own business."
He turned to look at Lin Dong.
"Fourth brother, could you ask him if he's free? We just want to have a meal together, nothing more."
Lin Dong glanced at him, then looked at Chen Long.
"And you?"
Chen Long pushed up his glasses, looking unusually a little awkward.
"I don't care. That Zhao Yu seems quite quiet, whatever."
Li Hu chuckled.
"Whatever? You were quicker to respond than I was."
Chen Long glared at him.
"Shut up."
Xu Zang raised his head, glanced at them, and then lowered his head again.
Lin Dong's lips twitched.
"Okay, I'll ask."
Li Hu's eyes lit up.
"real?"
Lin Dong nodded.
"I'll ask, but I can't guarantee it."
Li Hu nodded repeatedly.
"Okay, okay, I'll just ask. If the seniors are busy, then forget it. But if they're not busy, it would be nice if we all had a meal together."
Chen Long added from the side.
"The main purpose is to make Li Hu give up."
""
Li Hu glared at him.
"If you don't speak, no one will think you're mute."
The group laughed again.
Lin Dong leaned against the headboard, watching them make a fuss.
Li Hu was still muttering to himself.
"Fourth brother, you have to do me this favor. I've been single for over twenty years, and I've finally found someone I like..."
"You're not interested at all," Chen Long interrupted him. "You can't even remember their names."
Li Hu was unconvinced.
"How come I can't remember? Zhou Lin, short hair, speaks frankly, right?"
Chen Long was stunned for a moment.
"You really remember that."
Li Hu was smug.
"Of course. I'll definitely remember what I like."
He glanced at Chen Long.
"Your Zhao Yu, with her long hair and quiet demeanor, are you also thinking about her?"
Chen Long blushed slightly and adjusted his glasses.
"Who's thinking about it? I was just saying it casually."
Li Hu chuckled.
"Just something offhand? You were quicker to respond than I was."
Chen Long fell silent.
Xu Zang didn't look up, but the corners of his mouth curved slightly.
Lin Dong smiled too.
"Okay, I'll ask. If they're free, I'll invite them out for a meal."
Li Hu immediately sat up straight.
"It's a deal then. I'll treat you, and you'll be in charge of inviting people."
Chen Long nodded in agreement.
"I can invite you too."
Li Hu glanced at him.
"What are you inviting? Just invite Zhao Yu."
Chen Long's face turned red again.
"Shut up."
The group laughed again.
Lin Dong leaned against the headboard, watching them.
The corners of his mouth curved slightly.
"Okay, I'll make the call now."
